Calculation of Feynman diagrams with zero mass threshold from their small momentum expansion

A method of calculating Feynman diagrams from their small momentum expansion [1] is extended to diagrams with zero mass thresholds. We start from the asymptotic expansion in large masses [2] (applied to the case when all $M_i^2$ are large compared to all momenta squared). Using dimensional regularization, a finite result is obtained in terms of powers of logarithms (describing the zero-threshold singularity) times power series in the momentum squared. Surprisingly, these latter ones represent functions, which not only have the expected physical `second threshold' but have a branchcut singularity as well below threshold at a mirror position. These can be understood as pseudothresholds corresponding to solutions of the Landau equations. In the spacelike region the imaginary parts from the various contributions cancel. For the two-loop examples with one mass $M$, in the timelike region for $q^2 \approx M^2$ we obtain approximations of high precision. This will be of relevance in particular for the calculation of the decay $Z \to b\bar{b}$ in the $m_b=0$ approximation.

Gauge-Invariant Differential Renormalization: Abelian Case

A new version of differential renormalization is presented. It is based on pulling out certain differential operators and introducing a logarithmic dependence into diagrams. It can be defined either in coordinate or momentum space, the latter being more flexible for treating tadpoles and diagrams where insertion of counterterms generates tadpoles. Within this version, gauge invariance is automatically preserved to all orders in Abelian case. Since differential renormalization is a strictly four-dimensional renormalization scheme it looks preferable for application in each situation when dimensional renormalization meets difficulties, especially, in theories with chiral and super symmetries. The calculation of the ABJ triangle anomaly is given as an example to demonstrate simplicity of calculations within the presented version of differential renormalization.

Small-threshold behaviour of two-loop self-energy diagrams: two-particle thresholds

The behaviour of two-loop two-point diagrams at non-zero thresholds corresponding to two-particle cuts is analyzed. The masses involved in a cut and the external momentum are assumed to be small as compared to some of the other masses of the diagram. By employing general formulae of asymptotic expansions of Feynman diagrams in momenta and masses, we construct an algorithm to derive analytic approximations to the diagrams. In such a way, we calculate several first coefficients of the expansion. Since no conditions on relative values of the small masses and the external momentum are imposed, the threshold irregularities are described analytically. Numerical examples, using diagrams occurring in the Standard Model, illustrate the convergence of the expansion below the first large threshold.

Ultraviolet renormalons in abelian gauge theories

We analyze the large-order behaviour in perturbation theory of classes of diagrams with an arbitrary number of chains (i.e. photon lines, dressed by vacuum polarization insertions). We derive explicit formulae for the leading and subleading divergence as $n\to\infty$, and a complete result for the vacuum polarization at the next-to-leading order in $1/N_f$. In general, diagrams with more chains yield stronger divergence. We define an analogue of the familiar diagrammatic $R$-operation, which extracts ultraviolet renormalon counterterms as insertions of higher-dimension operators. We then use renormalization group equations to sum the leading $(\ln n/N_f)^k$-corrections to all orders in $1/N_f$ and find the asymptotic behaviour in $n$ up to a constant that must be calculated explicitly order by order in $1/N_f$.

Zero-threshold expansion of two-loop self-energy diagrams

An algorithm is constructed to derive a small momentum expansion for two-loop two-point diagrams in all cases where, due to the presence of physical thresholds, there are singularities at zero external momentum. The coefficients of this ``zero-threshold'' expansion are calculated analytically for arbitrary masses. Numerical examples, using diagrams occurring in the Standard Model, illustrate the convergence of the expansion below the first non-zero threshold.

Two-Loop Gluon-Condensate Contributions To Heavy-Quark Current Correlators: Exact Results And Approximations

The coefficient functions of the gluon condensate $ $, in the correlators of heavy-quark vector, axial, scalar and pseudoscalar currents, are obtained analytically, to two loops, for all values of $z=q^2/4m^2$. In the limiting cases $z\to0$, $z\to1$, and $z\to-\infty$, comparisons are made with previous partial results. Approximation methods, based on these limiting cases, are critically assessed, with a view to three-loop work. High accuracy is achieved using a few moments as input. A {\em single} moment, combined with only the {\em leading} threshold and asymptotic behaviours, gives the two-loop corrections to better than 1% in the next 10 moments. A two-loop fit to vector data yields $<\frac{α_{\rm s}}πG^2>\approx0.021$ GeV$^4$.

Large momentum expansion of two-loop self-energy diagrams with arbitrary masses

For two-loop two-point diagrams with arbitrary masses, an algorithm to derive the asymptotic expansion at large external momentum squared is constructed. By using a general theorem on asymptotic expansions of Feynman diagrams, the coefficients of the expansion are calculated analytically. For some two-loop diagrams occurring in the Standard Model, comparison with results of numerical integration shows that our expansion works well in the region above the highest physical threshold.
