QCD at the amplitude level: Fock state interference in heavy quark electroproduction

Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) rigorously predicts the existence of both nonperturbative intrinsic and perturbative extrinsic heavy quark contents of nucleons. In this article we discuss the heavy quark electroproduction on protons induced by the Fock states $|uud+g\rangle$ of three valence quarks in the proton and a nonperturbative gluon, and the $|uud+Q\bar Q\rangle$ non-perturbative state of three valence quarks and a heavy quark-antiquark pair. The first one gives the perturbative contribution when the gluon produces a heavy quark pair, while the second is the intrinsic part, and they produce amplitude interference. We use nonperturbative light-front wavefunctions for these Fock states, which are computed using the color-confining light-front holographic QCD theory. Due to interference of the amplitudes corresponding to the intrinsic and extrinsic heavy quark contribution to the proton a novel $Q$ vs. $\bar Q$ asymmetry emerges in the differential cross section of the electroproduction off a proton $d^2σ_{e^-p}/(dx dQ^2)$. Our analysis proposed a novel asymmetry in QCD between intrinsic and extrinsic heavy quark content in nucleon and provides new insights into the physics of heavy quark phenomena in QCD at the amplitude level. This asymmetry is similar to the Brodsky-Gillespie asymmetry discovered before in QED case and confirmed at DESY.

Probing $R$-parity violation in $B$-meson decays to a baryon and a light neutralino

We propose a search for $B$ meson decays to a baryon plus missing energy at the Belle II experiment to probe supersymmetry with a GeV-scale lightest neutralino ${\tildeχ_1^0}$ and $R$-parity violation (RPV). We perform analytic computations of the signal branching fractions in the framework of effective field theory, with a single nonzero RPV operator $λ''_{ij3}\bar{U}_{i}^c\bar{D}_{j}^c\bar{D}_3^c$, where $i,j=1,2$. The hadronic form factors are calculated using an SU(3) phenomenological Lagrangian approach for the proton, as well as several hyperons and charmed baryons. Since the decay of the neutralino is kinematically and CKM suppressed in this theoretical scenario, it decays outside the detector and appears experimentally only as missing energy. We detail the analysis techniques at the experimental level and estimate the background in the ${B^+ \to p {\tildeχ_1^0}}$ search using published results for $B^+\to K^+ ν\barν$. Our final sensitivity plots are shown for both $λ''_{113}$ versus the squark mass $m_{\tilde{q}}$ and $λ''_{113}/m^2_{\tilde{q}}$ versus the neutralino mass $m_{\tildeχ_1^0}$. We find that the search at Belle II could probe $λ''_{113}/m^2_{\tilde{q}}$ down to the order of $10^{-8}$ GeV$^{-2}$ in the kinematically allowed $m_{\tildeχ_1^0}$ range. We also obtain current limits on $λ''_{123}$ by recasting an existing search interpreted as ${B^0 \to Λ^0 {\tildeχ_1^0}}$, and comment about searches for ${B^+ \to Σ^+ {\tildeχ_1^0}}$, ${B^0 \to Σ^0 {\tildeχ_1^0}}$, ${B^+ \to Λ_c^+ {\tildeχ_1^0}}$, and ${B^+ \to Ξ_c^+ {\tildeχ_1^0}}$. In closing, we briefly discuss potential searches at the LHCb and BESIII experiments.

Dark SU(2) Stueckelberg portal

We study the non-abelian $SU(2)_D$ extension of the $U(1)_D$ Stueckelberg portal, which plays a role of the mediator between the Standard Model (SM) and Dark Sector (DS). This portal is specified by the Stueckelberg mechanism for generation of dark gauge boson masses. Proposed $U(1)_D\times SU(2)_D$ Stueckelberg portal has a connection with SM matter fields in analogy with Familon Model. We derive bounds on the couplings of dark portal bosons and SM particles, which govern diagonal and non-diagonal flavor transitions of quarks and leptons.

Heavy quark contribution to the electromagnetic properties of the nucleon

Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) predicts the existence of both nonperturbative intrinsic and perturbative extrinsic heavy quark contributions to the fundamental structure of hadrons. The existence of intrinsic charm at the 3-standard-deviation level in the proton has recently been established from structure function measurements by the NNPDF Collaboration. Here we revisit the physics of intrinsic heavy quarks using light-front holographic QCD (LFHQCD) - a novel comprehensive approach to hadron structure which provides detailed predictions for dynamical properties of the hadrons, such as form factors, distribution amplitudes, structure functions, etc. We will extend this nonperturbative light-front QCD approach to study the heavy quark-antiquark contribution to the electromagnetic properties of nucleon. Our framework is based on a study of the eigenfunctions of the QCD light-front Hamiltonian, the frame-independent light-front wave functions (LFWFs) underlying hadron dynamics. We analyze the heavy quark content in the proton, induced either directly by the nonperturbative $|uud+Q\bar Q\rangle$ Fock state or by the $|uud+g\rangle$ Fock state, where the gluon splits into a heavy quark-antiquark pair. The specific form of these LFWFs are derived from LFHQCD. Using these LFWFs, we construct light-front representations for the heavy quark-antiquark asymmetry, the electromagnetic form factors of nucleons induced by heavy quarks, including their magnetic moments and radii.

Predictions for the Sivers Single-Spin Asymmetry from Holographic QCD

A new approach to nonperturbative QCD, holographic light-front QCD, provides a comprehensive model for hadron dynamics and spectroscopy, incorporating color confinement, a universal hadron mass scale, the prediction of a massless pion in the chiral limit, and connections between the spectroscopy of mesons, baryons and tetraquarks across the full hadron spectrum. In this article we present predictions for the Sivers asymmetry and related transverse momentum distributions for the proton based on the light-front wavefunctions of the baryon eigenstate predicted by holographic QCD.

Implication of the dark axion portal for the EDM of fermions and dark matter probing with NA64$e$, NA64$μ$, LDMX, $\mbox{M}^3$, and BaBar

The link between ordinary Standard model (SM) photon and both dark photon and axion like particle (ALP) can be introduced through the dark axion portal coupling. Given the dark axion portal setup, in the present paper we refer the dark photon as the mediator between SM and dark matter (DM) particles, implying that it decays predominantly into pair of DM fermions. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the implication of the dark axion portal scenario for the lepton (electron and muon) fixed target experiments. In particular, for the specific fixed target facility we study the missing energy signatures of the dark photon production followed by its invisible decay into stable DM particles. We investigated the potential to probe dark axion portal vertices with regarding signatures and derive the expected sensitivities of NA64$e$, NA64$μ$, LDMX and $\mbox{M}^3$. Moreover, we estimated the expected reach of NA64$e$ from the projected statistics of the $J/ψ$ vector meson invisible decays. We also recasted BaBar monophoton bounds for the specific dark axion portal scenario. In addition, we modified the dark axion portal setup by including in the model both the hadron and lepton specific ALP couplings. As the result, we obtain the bounds on the combination of fermion-specific couplings of ALP from the fixed target experiments. We discuss the implication of the modified dark axion portal scenario for the electric dipole moments (EDM) of SM fermions. In addition, we derived the novel constraints on the combination of the $CP$-violating neutron-specific ALP couplings from the existing bounds on neutron EDM by taking into account the neutron anomalous magnetic moment.

Novel Corrections to the Momentum Sum Rule for Nuclear Structure Functions

We address novel features of deep inelastic lepton scattering on nuclei at small Bjorken variable $x_{Bj}$. In this regime the lepton-nuclear cross section involves the interference between the standard lepton-quark scattering amplitude for the deep inelastic scattering (DIS) process on a single nucleon and a two-step process where diffractive scattering on a first nucleon combines with the amplitude for DIS on a second nucleon. The phases associated with the $t$-channel exchanges to the diffractive amplitude can produce either a destructive or constructive quantum-mechanical interference of the one-step and two-step amplitudes. This provides a mechanism regulating the respective amounts of shadowing suppression and anti-shadowing enhancement at low $x_{Bj}$. Furthermore, the standard leading-twist operator product and handbag diagram analyses of the forward virtual Compton amplitude on the nucleus are inapplicable, barring a conventional probabilistic interpretation. A main observable consequence is the impossibility of extracting momentum and spin sum rules from nuclear structure functions. We present numerical predictions supporting this picture and test them against DIS neutrino-nucleus and charged-lepton-nucleus scattering data.

The Diffractive Contribution to Deep Inelastic Lepton-Proton Scattering: Implications for QCD Momentum Sum Rules and Parton Distributions

The cross section for deep inelastic lepton-proton scattering (DIS) $\ell p \to \ell' X$ includes a diffractive deep inelastic (DDIS) contribution $\ell p \to \ell' p' X$, in which the proton remains intact with a large longitudinal momentum fraction $x_F$ greater than 0.9 and small transverse momentum. The DDIS events, which can be identified with Pomeron exchange in the $t$-channel, account for approximately $10\%$ of all of the DIS events. Thus, when one measures DIS, one automatically includes the leading-twist Bjorken-scaling DDIS events as a contribution to the DIS cross section, whether or not the final-state proton $p'$ is detected. In such events, the missing momentum fraction $x_{p'} \sim 0.9$ carried by the final-state proton $p'$ in the DDIS events could be misidentified with the light-front momentum fraction carried by sea quarks or gluons in the protons' Fock structure. As we shall show in this article, the underlying QCD Pomeron-exchange amplitude which produces the DDIS events does not obey the operator product expansion nor satisfy momentum sum rules. Thus we conclude that the quark and gluon distributions measured in DIS experiments will be misidentified, unless the measurements explicitly exclude the DDIS events and that a correct determination of the parton distribution functions (PDFs) derived from the DIS data requires the explicit subtraction of the DDIS contribution from the full DIS cross section.

Radiative transitions of charmonium states in the covariant confined quark model

We have studied the dominant radiative transitions of the charmonium $S$-and $P$-wave states within the covariant confined quark model. The gauge invariant leading-order transition amplitudes have been expressed by using either the conventional Lorentz structures, or the helicity amplitudes, where it was effective. The renormalization couplings of the charmonium states have been strictly fixed by the compositeness conditions that excludes the constituent degrees of freedom from the space of physical states. We use the basic model parameters for the constituent c-quark mass $m_c=1.80$ GeV and the global infrared cutoff $λ=0.181$ GeV. We additionally introduce only one adjustable parameter $\varrho>0$ common for the charmonium states $η_c({}^1\!S_0)$, $J/ψ({}^3\!S_1)$, $χ_{c0}({^{3}}\!P_{0})$, $χ_{c1}({^{3}}\!P_{1})$, $h_c({^{1}}\!P_{1})$, and $χ_{c2}({^{3}}\!P_{2})$ to describe the quark distribution inside the hadron. This parameter describes the ratio between the charmonium size and its physical mass. The optimal value $\varrho=0.485$ has been fixed by fitting the latest data for the partial widths of the one-photon radiative decays of the triplet $χ_{cJ}({^{3}}\!P_{J}), J=\{0,1,2\}$. Then, we calculate corresponding fractional widths for states $J/ψ({}^3\!S_1)$ and $h_c({^{1}}\!P_{1})$. Estimated results are in good agreement with the latest data. By using the fraction data from PDG2020 and our estimated partial decay width for $h_c({^{1}}\!P_{1})$ we recalculate the theoretical full width $Γ^{\rm theor}_{h_c} \simeq (0.57 \pm 0.12)$ MeV in comparison with latest data $Γ^{\rm exp}_{h_c} \simeq (0.7\pm 0.4)$ MeV. We also repeated our calculations by gradually decreasing the global cutoff parameter and revealed that the results do not change for any $λ<0.181$ GeV up to the deconfinement limit.

Analysis of the nonleptonic two-body decays of the $Λ$ hyperon

We systematically study two-body nonleptonic decays of light lambda hyperon $Λ\to p π^- (nπ^0)$ with account for both short- and long-distance effects. The short-distance effects are induced by five topologies of external and internal weak $W^\pm$ exchange, while long-distance effects are saturated by an inclusion of the so-called pole diagrams with intermediate $\frac{1}{2}^+$ and $\frac{1}{2}^-$ baryon resonances. The contributions from $\frac12^+$ resonances are calculated straightforwardly by account for nucleon and $Σ$ baryons whereas the contributions from $\frac{1}{2}^-$ resonances are calculated by using the well-known soft-pion theorem in the current-algebra approach. It allows one to express the parity-violating $S$-wave amplitude in terms of parity-conserving matrix elements. From our previous analysis of heavy baryons we know that short-distance effects induced by internal topologies are not suppressed in comparison with external $W$-exchange diagram and must be included for description of data. Here, in the case of $Λ$ decays we found that the contribution of external and internal $W$-exchange diagrams is sizably suppressed, e.g., by one order of magnitude in comparison with data, which are known with quite good accuracy. Pole diagrams play the major role to get consistency with experiment.

New findings in gluon TMD physics

We revisit the model-independent decomposition of the gluon correlator, producing T-even and T-odd gluon transverse momentum distributions (TMDs), at leading twist. We propose an expansion of the gluon correlator, using a basis of four tensors (one antisymmetric and three symmetric), which are expressed through generators of the $U(2)$ group acting in the two-dimensional transverse plane. One can do clear interpretations of the two transversity T-odd TMDs with linear polarization of gluons: symmetric and asymmetric under permutation of the transverse spin of the nucleon and the transverse momentum of the gluon. Using light-front wave function (LFWF) representation, we also derive T-even and T-odd gluon TMDs in the nucleon at leading twist. The gluon-three-quark Fock component in the nucleon is considered as bound state of gluon and three-quark core (spectator). The TMDs are constructed as factorized product of two LFWFs and gluonic matrix encoding information about both T-even and T-odd TMDs. In particular, T-odd TMDs arise due to gluon rescattering between the gluon and three-quark spectator. Gluon rescattering effects are parametrized by unknown scalar functions depending on the $x$ and ${\bf k}_{\perp}$ variables. Our gluon TDMs obey the model-independent Mulders-Rodrigues inequalities. We also derive new sum rules (SRs) involving T-even TMDs. One of the SRs states that the square of the unpolarized TMD is equal to a sum of the squares of three polarized TMDs. Based on the SR derived for T-even gluon TMDs, we make a conjecture that there should two additional SRs involving T-odd gluon TMDs, valid at orders $α_s$ and $α_s^2$. Then, we check these SRs at small and large values of $x$. We think that our study could serve as useful input for future phenomenological studies of TMDs.

New ideas for handling of loop and angular integrals in D-dimensions in QCD

We discuss new ideas for consideration of loop diagrams and angular integrals in $D$-dimensions in QCD. In case of loop diagrams, we propose the covariant formalism of expansion of tensorial loop integrals into the orthogonal basis of linear combinations of external momenta. It gives a very simple presentation for the final results and is more convenient for calculations on computer algebra systems. In case of angular integrals we demonstrate how to simplify the integration of differential cross sections over polar angles. Also we derive the recursion relations, which allow to reduce all occurring angular integrals to a short set of basic scalar integrals. All order $ε$-expansion is given for all angular integrals with up to two denominators based on the expansion of the basic integrals and using recursion relations. A geometric picture for partial fractioning is developed which provides a new rotational invariant algorithm to reduce the number of denominators.

Gluon parton densities in soft-wall AdS/QCD

We study the gluon parton densities [parton distribution functions (PDFs), transverse momentum distributions (TMDs), generalized parton distributions (GPDs)] and form factors in soft-wall AdS/QCD. We show that the power behavior of gluon parton distributions and form factors at large values of the light-cone variable and large values of square momentum is consistent with quark counting rules. We also show that the transverse momentum distributions derived in our approach obey the model-independent Mulders-Rodrigues inequalities without referring to specific model parameters. All gluon parton distributions are defined in terms of the unpolarized and polarized gluon PDFs and profile functions. The latter are related to gluon PDFs via differential equations.

Form-factor-independent test of lepton universality in semileptonic heavy meson and baryon decays

In the semileptonic decays of heavy mesons and baryons the lepton-mass dependence factors out in the quadratic $\cos^2θ$ coefficient of the differential $\cosθ$ distribution. We call the corresponding normalized coefficient the convexity parameter. This observation opens the path to a test of lepton universality in semileptonic heavy meson and baryon decays that is independent of form-factor effects. By projecting out the quadratic rate coefficient, dividing out the lepton-mass-dependent factor and restricting the phase space integration to the $τ$ lepton phase space, one can define optimized partial rates which, in the Standard Model, are the same for all three $(e,μ,τ)$ modes in a given semileptonic decay process. We discuss how the identity is spoiled by New Physics effects. We discuss semileptonic heavy meson decays such as $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{(\ast)+} \ell^- \barν_\ell$ and $B_c^- \to J/ψ(η_c)\ell^- \barν_\ell$, and semileptonic heavy baryon decays such as $Λ_b \to Λ_c \ell^- \barν_\ell$ for each $\ell=e,μ,τ$.

Constraints on CP-odd ALP couplings from EDM limits of fermions

We discuss constraints on soft CP-violating couplings of axion-like particles with photon and fermions by using data on electric dipole moments of Standard Model particles. In particular, for the ALP leptophilic scenario we derive bounds on CP-odd ALP-photon-photon coupling from data of the {\tt ACME} Collaboration on electron EDM. We also discuss prospects of the Storage Ring experiment to constrain the ALP-photon-photon coupling from data on proton EDM for the simplified hadrophilic interactions of ALP. The regarding constraints from experimental bounds on the muon and neutron EDMs are weak. We set constraint on the CP-odd ALP coupling with electron and derive bounds on combinations of coupling constants, which involve soft CP-violating terms.

Strong decays of the hadronic molecule $Ω^\ast (2012)$

Strong two- and three-body decays of the new excited hyperon $Ω^*(2012)$ are discussed in the hadronic molecular approach. The $Ω^*(2012)$ state is considered to contain the mixed $Ξ\bar K$ and $Ωη$ hadronic components. In our calculations we use a phenomenological hadronic Lagrangian describing the coupling of the bound states to its constituents and of the constituents to other hadrons occurring in the final state. Our results show that the decay widths of the two-body decay modes $Ω^*(2012) \to Ξ\bar K$ lie in the few MeV region and are compatible with or dominate over the rates of the three-body modes $Ω^*(2012) \to Ξπ\bar K$. The sum of two- and three-body decay widths is consistent with a width of the $Ω^*(2012)$ originally measured by the Belle Collaboration. A possible scenario for the suppression of the three-body decay rate recently noticed by the Belle Collaboration is due to the dominant admixture of the $Ωη$ hadronic component in the $Ω^*(2012)$ state.
