Dirac/Rarita-Schwinger plus Maxwell theories in $\mathbb{R} \times S^3$ spacetime in the Hopf coordinates

We consider the sets of Dirac-Maxwell and Rarita-Schwinger-Maxwell equations in $\mathbb{R} \times S^3$ spacetime. Using the Hopf coordinates, we show that these equations allow separation of variables and obtain the corresponding analytic and numerical solutions. It is also demonstrated that the current of the Dirac field is related to the Hopf invariant on the $S^3 \rightarrow S^2$ fibration.

Monopole solutions in SU(2) Yang-Mills-plus-massive-nonlinear-spinor-field theory

Monopole solutions in SU(2) Yang-Mills theory which includes spinor fields described by the nonlinear Dirac equation are obtained. It is demonstrated that the energy spectrum of such a system possesses a global minimum whose appearance is brought about solely by the nonlinear spinor fields. It is shown that the monopole solution obtained differs in principle from the 't~Hooft-Polyakov monopole in that it is topologically trivial.

Spinor field solutions in $F\left(B^2\right)$ modified Weyl gravity

We consider modified Weyl gravity where a Dirac spinor field is nonminimally coupled to gravity. It is assumed that such modified gravity is some approximation for the description of quantum gravitational effects related to the gravitating spinor field. It is shown that such a theory contains solutions for a class of metrics which are conformally equivalent to the Hopf metric on the Hopf fibration. For this case, we obtain a full discrete spectrum of the solutions and show that they can be related to the Hopf invariant on the Hopf fibration. The expression for the spin operator in the Hopf coordinates is obtained. It is demonstrated that this class of conformally equivalent metrics contains: (a) a metric describing a toroidal wormhole without exotic matter; (b) a cosmological solution with a bounce and inflation; and (c) a transition with a change in metric signature. A physical discussion of the results is given. \end{abstract}

Dirac star with SU(2) Yang-Mills and Proca fields

We study spherically symmetric strongly gravitating configurations supported by nonlinear spinor fields and non-Abelian SU(2) Yang-Mills/Proca magnetic fields. Regular asymptotically flat solutions describing objects with positive Arnowitt-Deser-Misner masses are obtained numerically. When the mass of the spinor fields is much smaller than the Planck mass, we find approximate solutions that can describe systems with total masses comparable to the Chandrasekhar mass and with effective radii of the order of kilometers. For the values of the system free parameters used here, we show that the SU(2) magnetic field always gives a small contribution to the total energy density and mass of the configurations under investigation. From the astrophysical point of view, one can regard such objects as magnetized Dirac stars.

Thick branes in higher-dimensional $f(R)$ gravity

We study the thick brane model within $f(R)\sim R^n$ modified gravity in $D$-dimensional spacetimes with $D\geq 6$. The system under consideration consists of two branes orthogonal to each other: the four-dimensional Lorentzian brane and $(D-5)$-dimensional Euclidean one. It is numerically shown that, for a given $D$, regular vacuum asymptotically anti-de Sitter solutions exist only in the range $1<n<D/2$. Depending on the values of $n$ and boundary conditions imposed on the Lorentzian brane, the solutions can pass or not pass through a fixed point located on the Lorentzian brane, and also be $Z_2$-symmetric or nonsymmetric. In the large-$D$ limit, we find approximate analytic solutions. It is also shown that a test scalar field is trapped on the Lorentzian brane at any $D$.

Rotating wormhole solutions with a complex phantom scalar field

We consider rotating wormhole solutions supported by a complex phantom scalar field with a quartic self-interaction, where the phantom field induces the rotation of the spacetime. The solutions are regular and asymptotically flat. A subset of solutions describing static but not spherically symmetric wormholes is also obtained.

Dirac star in the presence of Maxwell and Proca fields

We consider configurations consisting of a gravitating nonlinear spinor field $ψ$, with a nonlinearity of the type $λ\left(\barψψ\right)^2$, minimally coupled to Maxwell and Proca fields through the coupling constants $Q_M$ [U(1) electric charge] and $Q_P$, respectively. In order to ensure spherical symmetry of the configurations, we use two spin-$1/2$ fields having opposite spins. By means of numerical computations, we find families of equilibrium configurations with a positive Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) mass described by regular zero-node asymptotically flat solutions for static Maxwell and Proca fields and for stationary spinor fields. For the case of the Maxwell field, it is shown that, with increasing charge $Q_M$, the masses of the objects increase and diverge as the charge tends to a critical value. For negative values of the coupling constant $λ$, we demonstrate that, by choosing physically reasonable values of this constant, it is possible to obtain configurations with masses comparable to the Chandrasekhar mass and with effective radii of the order of kilometers. It enables us to speak of an astrophysical interpretation of such systems, regarding them as charged Dirac stars. In turn, for the system with the Proca field, it is shown that the mass of the configurations also grows with increasing both $|λ|$ and the coupling constant $Q_P$. Although in this case the numerical calculations do not allow us to make a definite conclusion about the possibility of obtaining masses comparable to the Chandrasekhar mass for physically reasonable values of $λ$, one may expect that such masses can be obtained for certain values of free parameters of the system under consideration.

Energy conditions for a $T^2$ wormhole at the center

Within general relativity, we determine the energy conditions needed for the existence of a toroidal $T^2$ wormhole. For this purpose, we employ the conditions of the positiveness of the second derivatives of the relevant components of the metric, which describe an increase in the linear sizes (or the area) of the cross section of the throat. The corresponding inequalities for the central energy density and pressures of the matter and for the metric are obtained.

Dirac stars supported by nonlinear spinor fields

We study configurations consisting of a gravitating spinor field $ψ$ with a nonlinearity of the type $λ\left(\barψψ\right)^2$. To ensure spherical symmetry of the configurations, we use two spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ fields forming a spin singlet. For such systems, we find regular stationary asymptotically flat solutions describing compact objects. For negative values of the coupling constant $λ$, it is shown that, by choosing physically reasonable values of this constant, it is possible to obtain configurations with masses comparable to the Chandrasekhar mass. It enables us to speak of an astrophysical interpretation of the obtained systems, regarding them as Dirac stars.

Non-Abelian Proca-Dirac-Higgs theory: particle-like solutions and their energy spectrum

We study a system consisting of a non-Abelian SU(2) Proca field interacting with nonlinear scalar (Higgs) and spinor fields. For such a system, it is shown that particle-like solutions with finite energy do exist. It is demonstrated that the solutions depend on three free parameters of the system, including the central value of the scalar field $ξ_0$. For some fixed values of $ξ_0$, we find energy spectra of the solutions. It is shown that for each of the cases under consideration there is a minimum value of the energy $Δ=Δ(ξ_0)$ (the mass gap $Δ(ξ_0)$ for a fixed value of $ξ_0$). The behavior of the function $Δ(ξ_0)$ is studied for some range of $ξ_0$.

Thin-shell toroidal wormhole

We consider a topologically nontrivial thin-shell wormhole with a throat in the form of a $T^2$ torus. It is shown that: (i)~such a wormhole is stable with respect to excitations of the throat; (ii)~not all energy conditions are violated for such wormholes; (iii)~if any of the energy conditions is violated, this violation occurs only partially in some region near the throat, and in other regions the violation is absent. Also, we discuss the differences between spherical $S^2$ wormholes and toroidal $T^2$ wormholes under investigation.

Static general relativistic solutions supported by phantom and ordinary scalar fields with higher-order potentials

Domain wall, wormhole, particlelike, and cosmic string general relativistic solutions supported by two interacting phantom or ordinary scalar fields with 4th-, 6th-, and 8th-order potentials are studied. Numerical calculations indicate that regular finite energy solutions exist only for specific values of two free parameters of the potentials. By solving nonlinear eigenvalue problems for some fixed sets of values of the free parameters and of boundary conditions, it is shown that the presence or absence of the solutions depends on a particular symmetry of the problem, on the type of the scalar fields (ordinary or phantom), and on the form of the potential.

Energy spectrum and the mass gap from nonperturbative quantization à la Heisenberg

Using approximate methods of nonperturbative quantization à la Heisenberg and taking into account the interaction of gauge fields with quarks, we find regular solutions describing the following configurations: (i) a spinball consisting of two virtual quarks with opposite spins; (ii) a quantum monopole; (iii) a spinball-plus-quantum-monopole system; and (iv) a spinball-plus-quantum-dyon system. A comparison with quasi-particles obtained by lattice and phenomenological analytical calculations is carried out. All these objects (except the spinball) are embedded in a bag created by the quantum coset condensate consisting of the SU(3)/(SU(2)~$\times$~U(1)) gauge fields. The existence of these objects is due to the Meissner effect, which implies that the SU(2)~$\times$~U(1) gauge fields are expelled from the condensate. The physical interpretation of these solutions is proposed in two different forms: (i) an approximate glueball model; and (ii) quantum fluctuations in the coset condensate of the nonperturbative vacuum or in a quark-gluon plasma. For the spinball and the spinball-plus-quantum-monopole configuration, we obtain energy spectra, in which mass gaps are present. The process of deconfinement is discussed qualitatively. It is shown that the quantum chromodynamics constant $Λ_{\text{QCD}}$ appears in the nonperturbative quantization à la Heisenberg as some constant controlling the correlation length of quantum fields in a spacelike direction.

Dirac and non-Dirac conditions in the 2-potential theory of magnetic charge

We investigate the Cabbibo-Ferrari, two potential approach to magnetic charge coupled to two different complex scalar fields, $Φ_1$ and $Φ_2$, each having different electric and magnetic charges. The scalar field, $Φ_1$, is assumed to have a spontaneous symmetry breaking self interaction potential which gives a mass to the "magnetic" gauge potential and "magnetic" photon, while the other "electric" gauge potential and "electric" photon remain massless. The magnetic photon is hidden until one reaches energies of the order of the magnetic photon rest mass. The second scalar field, $Φ_2$, is required in order to make the theory non-trivial. With only one field one can always use a duality rotation to rotate away either the electric or magnetic charge, and thus decouple either the associated electric or magnetic photon. In analyzing this system of two scalar fields in the Cabbibo-Ferrari approach we perform several duality and gauge transformations, which require introducing non-Dirac conditions on the initial electric and magnetic charges. We also find that due to the symmetry breaking the usual Dirac condition is altered to include the mass of the magnetic photon. We discuss the implications of these various conditions on the charges.

Nonperturbative quantization à la Heisenberg and thermodynamics of monopole configurations

For field theories in which no small parameter is available, we propose a definition of nonperturbative quantum states in terms of the complete set of Green functions, based upon the utilization of Heisenberg's quantization procedure. We apply this method to obtain the energy spectra of a quantum monopole and of a flux tube. The partition function and thermodynamic quantities for one quantum monopole are evaluated numerically. A dilute gas of noninteracting quantum monopoles is considered, for which the partition function and thermodynamic quantities are evaluated as well. All the obtained statistical and thermodynamic functions contain quantum corrections associated with the internal structure of the quantum monopole.

Wormhole solutions with a complex ghost scalar field and their instability

We study compact configurations with a nontrivial wormholelike spacetime topology supported by a complex ghost scalar field with a quartic self-interaction. For this case, we obtain regular asymptotically flat equilibrium solutions possessing reflection symmetry. We then show their instability with respect to linear radial perturbations.

Quantum monopole via Heisenberg quantization

Using a non-perturbative quantization method originally due to Heisenberg we obtain {\it quantum} monopole solutions and {\it quantum} flux tube solutions for the SU(3) strong interaction gauge theory. For the quantum monopole solution we find that the radial chromomagnetic field decreases exponentially with a scale set by the effective gluon mass. The quantum flux tube solution stretches between a monopole and anti-monopole and has a longitudinal chromomagnetic field. Both solutions exhibit characteristics of the Meissner effect and are conjectured to have a connection to the confinement phenomenon.

Calculation of gluon contribution to the proton spin by using the non-perturbative quantization à la Heisenberg

The contribution of crossed gluon fields in flux tubes connecting quarks to the proton spin is calculated. The calculations are performed following non-perturbative Heisenberg's quantization technique. In our approach a proton is considered as consisting of three quarks connected by three flux tubes. The flux tubes contain color longitudinal electric and transversal electric and magnetic fields. The transversal fields causes the appearance of the angular momentum density. The dimensionless relation between the angular momentum and the mass of the gluon fields is obtained. The contribution to proton spin from rotating quarks and flux tubes connecting quarks is estimated. Simple numerical relation between the proton mass, the speed of light and the proton radius, which is of the same order as the Planck constant, is discussed.
