Some Remarks on Nijenhuis Bracket, Formality, and Kähler Manifolds

One (actually, almost the only effective) way to prove formality of a differentiable manifold is to be able to produce a suitable derivation $δ$ such that $dδ$-lemma holds. We first show that such derivation $δ$ generates a (1,1)-tensor field (we denote it by $R$). Then, we show that the supercommutation of $d$ and $δ$ (which is a natural, essentially necessary condition to get a $dδ$-lemma) is equivalent to vanishing of the Nijenhujis torsion of $R$. Then, we are looking for sufficient conditions that ensure the $dδ$-lemma holds: we consider the cases when $R$ is self adjoint with respect to a Riemannian metric or compatible with an almost symplectic structure. Finally, we show that if $R$ is scew-symmetric with respect to a Riemannian metric, has constant determinant, and if its Nijenhujis torsion vanishes, then the orthogonal component of $R$ in its polar decomposition is a complex structure compatible with the metric, which gives us a new characterization of Kähler structures

Two-dimensional superintegrable metrics with one linear and one cubic integral

We describe all local Riemannian metrics on surfaces whose geodesic flows are superintegrable with one integral linear in momenta and one integral cubic in momenta. We also show that some of these metrics can be extended to the 2-sphere. This gives us new examples of Hamiltonian systems on the sphere with integrals of degree three in momenta, and the first examples of superintegrable metrics of nonconstant curvature on a closed surface

Gallot-Tanno Theorem for closed incomplete pseudo-Riemannian manifolds and applications

We extend the Gallot-Tanno Theorem to closed pseudo-Riemannian manifolds. It is done by showing that if the cone over a manifold admits a parallel symmetric $(0,2)-$tensor then it is Riemannian. Applications of this result to the existence of metrics with distinct Levi-Civita connections but having the same unparametrized geodesics and to the projective Obata conjecture are given. We also apply our result to show that the holonomy group of a closed $(O(p+1,q),S^{p,q})$-manifold does not preserve any nondegenerate splitting of $\R^{p+1,q}$.

Pseudo-Riemannian metrics on closed surfaces whose geodesic flows admit nontrivial integrals quadratic in momenta, and proof of the projective Obata conjecture for two-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian metrics

We describe all pseudo-Riemannian metrics on closed surfaces whose geodesic flows admit nontrivial integrals quadratic in momenta. As an application, we solve the Beltrami problem on closed surfaces, prove the nonexistence of quadratically-superintegrable metrics of nonconstant curvature on closed surfaces, and prove the two-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian version of the projective Obata conjecture.

There are no conformal Einstein rescalings of complete pseudo-Riemannian Einstein metrics

We prove the following statement: Let g be a light-line-complete pseudo-Riemannian Einstein metric of indefinite signature on a connected (n>2)-dimensional manifold M. Assume that a conformally equivalent metric is also Einstein. Then, the metrics are proportional with a constant coefficient. If in addition the manifold is closed, the assumption that the manifold is light-line-complete could be omitted.

Normal forms for pseudo-Riemannian 2-dimensional metrics whose geodesic flows admit integrals quadratic in momenta

We discuss pseudo-Riemannian metrics on 2-dimensional manifolds such that the geodesic flow admits a nontrivial integral quadratic in velocities. We construct local normal forms of such metrics. We show that these metrics have certain useful properties similar to those of Riemannian Liouville metrics, namely: 1) they admit geodesically equivalent metrics; 2) one can use them to construct a big family of natural systems admitting integrals quadratic in momenta; 3) the integrability of such systems can be generalized to the quantum setting; 4) these natural systems are integrable by quadratures.

Splitting and gluing constructions for geodesically equivalent pseudo-Riemannian metrics

Two metrics $g $ and $\bar g$ are geodesically equivalent, if they share the same (unparameterized) geodesics. We introduce two constructions that allow one to reduce many natural problems related to geodesically equivalent metrics, such as the classification of local normal forms and the Lie problem (the description of projective vector fields), to the case when the (1,1)-tensor $G^i_j:= g^{ik} \bar g_{kj}$ has one real eigenvalue, or two complex conjugate eigenvalues, and give first applications. As a part of the proof of the main result, we generalize Topalov-Sinjukov (hierarchy) Theorem for pseudo-Riemannian metrics

Riemannian metrics having common geodesics with Berwald metrics

In Theorem 1, we generalize the results of Szabo for Berwald metrics that are not necessary strictly convex: we show that for every Berwald metric F there always exists a Riemannian metric affine equivalent to F. As an application we show (Corollary 3) that every Berwald projectively flat metric is a Minkowski metric; this statement is a "Berwald" version of Hilbert's 4th problem. Further, we investigate geodesic equivalence of Berwald metrics. Theorem 2 gives a system of PDE that has a (nontrivial) solution if and only if the given essentially Berwald metric admits a Riemannian metric that is (nontrivially) geodesically equivalent to it. The system of PDE is linear and of Cauchy-Frobenius type, i.e., the derivatives of unknown functions are explicit expressions of the unknown functions. As an application (Corollary 2), we obtain that geodesic equivalence of an essentially Berwald metric and a Riemannian metric is always affine equivalence provided both metrics are complete.

Finsler conformal Lichnerowicz-Obata conjecture

We prove the Finsler analog of the conformal Lichnerowicz-Obata conjecture showing that a complete and essential conformal vector field on a non-Riemannian Finsler manifold is a homothetic vector field of a Minkowski metric.

On projectively equivalent metrics near points of bifurcation

Let Riemannian metrics $g$ and $\bar g$ on a connected manifold $M^n$ have the same geodesics (considered as unparameterized curves). Suppose the eigenvalues of one metric with respect to the other are all different at a point. Then, by the famous Levi-Civita's Theorem, the metrics have a certain standard form near the point. Our main result is a generalization of Levi-Civita's Theorem for the points where the eigenvalues of one metric with respect to the other bifurcate.

Complete Einstein metrics are geodesically rigid

We prove that every complete Einstein (Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian) metric $g$ is geodesically rigid: if any other complete metric $\bar g$ has the same (unparametrized) geodesics with $g$, then the Levi-Civita connections of $g$ and $\bar g$ coincide.
