Bound of Entanglement of Assistance and Monogamy Constraints

We investigate the entanglement of assistance which quantifies capabilities of producing pure bipartite entangled states from a pure tripartite state. The lower bound and upper bound of entanglement of assistance are obtained. In the light of the upper bound, monogamy constraints are proved for arbitrary n-qubit states.

Formation and Transformation of Vector-Solitons in Two-Species Bose-Einstein Condensates with Tunable Interaction

Under a unified theory we investigate the formation of various types of vector-solitons in two-species Bose-Einstein condensates with arbitrary scattering lengths. We then show that by tuning the interaction parameter via Feshbach resonance, transformation between different types of vector solitons is possible. Our results open up new ways in the quantum control of multi-species Bose-Einstein condensates.

Nonlinear dynamics of a cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensate coupled with a single cavity mode

We investigate the nonlinear dynamics of a combined system which is composed of a cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensate and an optical cavity. The two sides couple dispersively. This system is characterized by its nonlinearity: after integrating out the freedom of the cavity mode, the potential felt by the condensate depends on the condensate itself. We develop a discrete-mode approximation for the condensate. Based on this approximation, we map out the steady configurations of the system. It is found that due to the nonlinearity of the system, the nonlinear levels of the system can fold up in some parameter regimes. That will lead to the breakdown of adiabaticity. Analysis of the dynamical stability of the steady states indicates that the same level structure also results in optical bistability.

Dynamics and modulation of ring dark soliton in 2D Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interaction

We investigate the dynamics and modulation of ring dark soliton in 2D Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interaction both analytically and numerically. The analytic solutions of ring dark soliton are derived by using a new transformation method. For shallow ring dark soliton, it is stable when the ring is slightly distorted, while for large deformation of the ring, vortex pairs appear and they demonstrate novel dynamical behaviors: the vortex pairs will transform into dark lumplike solitons and revert to ring dark soliton periodically. Moreover, our results show that the dynamical evolution of the ring dark soliton can be dramatically affected by Feshbach resonance, and the lifetime of the ring dark soliton can be largely extended which offers a useful method for observing the ring dark soliton in future experiments.

Quantum Blockades and Loop Currents in Graphene with Topological Defects

We investigate the effect of topological defects on the transport properties of a narrow ballistic ribbon of graphene with zigzag edges. Our results show that the longitudinal conductance vanishes at several discrete Fermi energies where the system develops loop orbital electric currents with certain chirality. The chirality depends on the direction of the applied bias voltage and the sign of the local curvature created by the topological defects. This novel quantum blockade phenomenon provides a new way to generate a magnetic moment by an external electric field, which can prove useful in carbon electronics.

Non-Abelian Josephson effect between two spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in double optical traps

We investigate the non-Abelian Josephson effect in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with double optical traps. We propose, for the first time, a real physical system which contains non-Abelian Josephson effects. The collective modes of this weak coupling system have very different density and spin tunneling characters comparing to the Abelian case. We calculate the frequencies of the pseudo Goldstone modes in different phases between two traps respectively, which are a crucial feature of the non-Abelian Josephson effects. We also give an experimental protocol to observe this novel effect in future experiments.

Controlling soliton interactions in Bose-Einstein condensates by synchronizing the Feshbach resonance and harmonic trap

We present how to control interactions between solitons, either bright or dark, in Bose-Einstein condensates by synchronizing Feshbach resonance and harmonic trap. Our results show that as long as the scattering length is to be modulated in time via a changing magnetic field near the Feshbach resonance, and the harmonic trapping frequencies are also modulated in time, exact solutions of the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation can be found in a general closed form, and interactions between two solitons are modulated in detail in currently experimental conditions. We also propose experimental protocols to observe the phenomena such as fusion, fission, warp, oscillation, elastic collision in future experiments.

Evolution equation of entanglement for general bipartite systems

We explore how entanglement of a general bipartite system evolves when one subsystem undergoes the action of an arbitrary noisy channel. It is found that the dynamics of entanglement for general bipartite systems under the influence of such channel is determined by the channel's action on the maximally entangled state, which includes as a special case the results for two-qubit systems [Nature Physics 4, 99 (2008)]. In particular, for multi-qubit or qubit-qudit systems, we get a general factorization law for evolution equation of entanglement with one qubit being subject to a noisy channel. Our results can help the experimental characterization of entanglement dynamics.

Localized gap soliton trains of Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice

We develop a systematic analytical approach to study the linear and nonlinear solitary excitations of quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in an optical lattice. For the linear case, the Bloch wave in the $nth$ energy band is a linear superposition of Mathieu's functions $ce_{n-1}$ and $se_n$; and the Bloch wave in the $nth$ band gap is a linear superposition of $ce_n$ and $se_n$. For the nonlinear case, only solitons inside the band gaps are likely to be generated and there are two types of solitons -- fundamental solitons (which is a localized and stable state) and sub-fundamental solitons (which is a lacalized but unstable state). In addition, we find that the pinning position and the amplitude of the fundamental soliton in the lattice can be controlled by adjusting both the lattice depth and spacing. Our numerical results on fundamental solitons are in quantitative agreement with those of the experimental observation [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf92}, 230401 (2004)]. Furthermore, we predict that a localized gap soliton train consisting of several fundamental solitons can be realized by increasing the length of the condensate in currently experimental conditions.

Dynamical Creation of Fractionalized Vortices and Vortex Lattices

We investigate dynamic creation of fractionalized half-quantum vortices in Bose-Einstein condensates of sodium atoms. Our simulations show that both individual half-quantum vortices and vortex lattices can be created in rotating optical traps when additional pulsed magnetic trapping potentials are applied. We also find that a distinct periodically modulated spin-density-wave spatial structure is always embedded in square half-quantum vortex lattices; this structure can be conveniently probed by taking absorption images of ballistically expanding cold atoms in a Stern-Gerlach field.

Solitons in Bose-Einstein Condensates with time-dependent atomic scattering length in an expulsive parabolic and complex potential

We present two families of analytical solutions of the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation which describe the dynamics of bright and dark solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) with the time-dependent interatomic interaction in an expulsive parabolic and complex potential. We also demonstrate that the lifetime of both a bright soliton and a dark soliton in BECs can be extended by reducing both the ratio of the axial oscillation frequency to radial oscillation frequency and the loss of atoms. It is interested that a train of bright solitons may be excited with a strong enough background. An experimental protocol is further designed for observing this phenomenon.

Luttinger liquid coupled to Bose-Einstein condensation reservoirs

We investigate the transport properties for a Luttinger liquid coupled to two identical Bose-Einstein condensation reservoirs. Using the approach of equation of motion for the Green function of the system, we find that the distance between the two resonant transmission probability peaks of the system is determined by the bosonic interaction strengths, and the sharpness of these resonant peaks is mainly determined by the Rabi frequency and phase of the Bose-Einstein condensation reservoir. These results for the proposed system involving a Luttinger liquid may build a bridge between the controling transport properties of cold atom in atom physics and the interacting boson transport in low-dimensional condensed matter physics.

Mean-field dynamics of a Bose Josephson junction in an optical cavity

We study the mean-field dynamics of a Bose Josephson junction which is dispersively coupled to a single mode of a high-finesse optical cavity. An effective classical Hamiltonian for the Bose Josephson junction is derived and its dynamics is studied in the perspective of phase portrait. It is shown that the strong condensate-field coupling does alter the dynamics of the Bose Josephson junction drastically. The possibility of coherent manipulating and \textsl{in situ} observation of the dynamics of the Bose Josephson junction is discussed.

A Diffractive Study of Parametric Process in Nonlinear Photonic Crystals

We report a general description of quasi-phase-matched parametric process in nonlinear photonic crystals (NLPC) by extending the conventional X-ray diffraction theory in solids. Under the virtual wave approximation, phase-matching resonance is equivalent to the diffraction of the scattered virtual wave. Hence a modified NLPC Ewald construction can be built up, which illustrates the nature of the accident for the diffraction of the virtual wave in NLPC and further reveals the complete set of diffractions of the virtual wave for both of the air-dielectric and dielectric-dielectric contacts. We show the two basic linear sequences, the anti-stacking and para-stacking linear sequences, in one-dimension (1D) NLPC and present a general rule for multiple phase-matching resonances in 1D NLPC. The parameters affecting the NLPC structure factor are investigated, which indicate that not only the Ewald construction but also the relative NLPC atom size together determine whether a diffraction of the virtual wave can occur in 2D NLPC. The results also show that 1D NLPC is a better choice than 2D NLPC for a single parametric process.

Spin polarized current in a junction of zigzag carbon nanotube

We investigated spin-resolved electronic transport through a junction composed of a nonmagnetic metal electrode and a zigzag carbon nanotube by means of self-consistent Green's function method in the tight binding approximation and the unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation. Our results show that the electric current can be spin-polarized if the coupling of the junction is weak. Further calculations on spin-spin correlation and local density of states reveal the existence of magnetic edge states in zigzag carbon nanotubes, which is responsible for the observed spin-polarized current and can be controlled by applying a gate voltage. We also studied the influence of the nearest-neighbor Coulomb interaction and the junction coupling strength on the spin-polarization of the current.

Designing a Spin Channel for Perfect Quantum Communication

We propose a scheme for using a spin chain with fixed symmetry interaction as a channel for perfect quantum communication. The perfect quantum communication is determined by the eigenvalues that form a special arithmetical progression, the concrete interaction parameter $J_i$ is obtained as a function of integer and perfect transmission time $t_p$. There are infinite choices of $J_i$ for perfect transmission and one can design the channel according to the requirement of $t_p$. This scheme will provide more choices of spin chain for future experiment in quantum communication.

An Ideal Channel of Long Distance Entanglement in Spin Systems

We propose a scheme for using spin chain to realize an ideal channel of long distance entanglement. The results show that there has different entanglement in different Hilbert subspace, the anisotropic parameter $Δ$ will frustrate the entanglement and the magnetic field affect the entanglement through changing the ground state, the boundary entanglement $C_{1N}$ has the simplest expression in the simplest subspace and it only depend on the first item of the ground state, that item can be increased when a local magnetic field is introduced. Our propose can be handled easily because it only needs a uniform XX open chain initialized in the simplest Hilbert subspace and a bulk magnetic field that absent for the boundary qubits.

Casimir Forces in Trapped Dilute Bose Gas Between Two Slabs

We discuss a Casimir force due to zero-temperature quantum fluctuations in a weakly interacting Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with a strong harmonic trap. The results show that the presence of a strong harmonic trap changes the power law behavior of Casimir force due to the dimensional reduction effect. At finite temperature, we calculate Casimir force due to thermal fluctuation and find an exotic temperature dependent behavior in the first order term. Finally, we speculate some possible experimental realization and detection of the force in future experiments.
