360 Panorama Cloning on Sphere

In this paper, we address a novel problem of cloning a patch of the source spherical panoramic image to the target spherical panoramic image, which we call 360 panorama cloning. Considering the sphere geometry constraint embedded in spherical panoramic images, we develop a coordinate-based method that directly clones in the spherical domain. Our method neither differentiates the polar regions and equatorial regions, nor identifies the boundaries in the unrolled planar-formatted panorama. We discuss in depth two unique issues in panorama cloning, i.e. preserving the patch's orientation, and handling the large-patch cloning (covering over 180 field of view) which may suffer from discoloration artifacts. As experimental results demonstrate, our method is able to get visually pleasing cloning results and achieve real time cloning performance.

When mmWave Communications Meet Network Densification: A Scalable Interference Coordination Perspective

The millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication is envisioned to provide orders of magnitude capacity improvement. However, it is challenging to realize a sufficient link margin due to high path loss and blockages. To address this difficulty, in this paper, we explore the potential gain of ultra-densification for enhancing mmWave communications from a network-level perspective. By deploying the mmWave base stations (BSs) in an extremely dense and amorphous fashion, the access distance is reduced and the choice of serving BSs is enriched for each user, which are intuitively effective for mitigating the propagation loss and blockages. Nevertheless, co-channel interference under this model will become a performance-limiting factor. To solve this problem, we propose a large-scale channel state information (CSI) based interference coordination approach. Note that the large-scale CSI is highly location-dependent, and can be obtained with a quite low cost. Thus, the scalability of the proposed coordination framework can be guaranteed. Particularly, using only the large-scale CSI of interference links, a coordinated frequency resource block allocation problem is formulated for maximizing the minimum achievable rate of the users, which is uncovered to be a NP-hard integer programming problem. To circumvent this difficulty, a greedy scheme with polynomial-time complexity is proposed by adopting the bisection method and linear integer programming tools. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed coordination scheme based on large-scale CSI only can still offer substantial gains over the existing methods. Moreover, although the proposed scheme is only guaranteed to converge to a local optimum, it performs well in terms of both user fairness and system efficiency.

Multiqubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state generated by synthetic magnetic field in circuit QED

We propose a scheme to generate Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state for N superconducting qubits in a circuit QED system. By sinusoidally modulating the qubit-qubit coupling, a synthetic magnetic field has been made which broken the time-reversal symmetry of the system. Directional rotation of qubit excitation can be realized in a three-qubit loop under the artificial magnetic field. Based on the special quality that the rotation of qubit excitation has different direction for single- and double-excitation loops, we can generate three-qubit GHZ state and extend this preparation method to arbitrary multiqubit GHZ state. Our analysis also shows that the scheme is robust to various operation errors and environmental noise.

Low-field electron mobility of InSb nanowires: Numerical efforts to larger cross sections

Within the framework of Boltzmann equation, we present a $\mathbf{k\cdot p}$ theory based study for the low-field mobilities of InSb nanowires (InSb NWs) with relatively large cross sectional sizes (with diameters up to 51.8 nm). For such type of large size nanowires, the intersubband electron-phonon scattering is of crucial importance to affect the scattering rate and then the mobility. In our simulation, the lowest 15 electron subbands and 50 transverse modes of phonons are carefully accounted for. We find that, up to the 51.84 nm diameter, the mobility monotonously increases with the diameter, not yet showing any saturated behavior. We also find that, while the bulk InSb mobility is considerably higher than the bulk Si, the small size (e.g. $\sim 3$ nm diameter) nanowires from both materials have similar magnitude of mobilities. This implies, importantly, that the mobility of the InSb NWs would decrease faster than the SiNWs as we reduce the cross sectional size of the nanowires.

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency with Superradiant and Subradiant states

We construct the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) by dynamically coupling a superradiant state with a subradiant state. The superradiant and subradiant states with enhanced and inhibited decay rates act as the excited and metastable states in EIT, respectively. Their energy difference determined by the distance between the atoms can be measured by the EIT spectra, which renders this method useful in subwavelength metrology. The scheme can also be applied to many atoms in nuclear quantum optics, where the transparency point due to counter-rotating wave terms can be observed.

Three-dimensional bulk electronic structure of the Kondo lattice CeIn3 revealed by photoemission

We show the three-dimensional electronic structure of the Kondo lattice CeIn3 using soft x-ray angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy in the paramagnetic state. For the first time, we have directly observed the three-dimensional topology of the Fermi surface of CeIn3 by photoemission. The Fermi surface has a complicated hole pocket centred at the Γ-Z line and an elliptical electron pocket centred at the R point of the Brillouin zone. Polarization and photon-energy dependent photoemission results both indicate the nearly localized nature of the 4f electrons in CeIn3, consistent with the theoretical prediction by means of the combination of density functional theory and single-site dynamical meanfield theory. Those results illustrate that the f electrons of CeIn3, which is the parent material of CeMIn5 compounds, are closer to the localized description than the layered CeMIn5 compounds.

Qubit state tomography in superconducting circuit via weak measurements

The standard method of "measuring" quantum wavefunction is the technique of {\it indirect} quantum state tomography. Owing to conceptual novelty and possible advantages, an alternative {\it direct} scheme was proposed and demonstrated recently in quantum optics system. In this work we present a study on the direct scheme of measuring qubit state in the circuit QED system, based on weak measurement and weak value concepts. To be applied to generic parameter conditions, our formulation and analysis are carried out for finite strength weak measurement, and in particular beyond the bad-cavity and weak-response limits. The proposed study is accessible to the present state-of-the-art circuit-QED experiments.

Simple understanding of quantum weak values

In this work we revisit the important and controversial concept of quantum weak values, aiming to provide a simplified understanding to its associated physics and the origin of anomaly. Taking the Stern-Gerlach setup as a working system, we base our analysis on an exact treatment in terms of quantum Bayesian approach. We also make particular connection with a very recent work, where the anomaly of the weak values was claimed from the pure statistics in association with "disturbance" and "post-selection", rather than the unique quantum nature. Our analysis resolves the related controversies through a clear and quantitative way.

Exact quantum Bayesian rule for qubit measurements in circuit QED

Developing efficient framework for quantum measurements is of essential importance to quantum science and technology. In this work, for the important superconducting circuit-QED setup, we present a rigorous and analytic solution for the effective quantum trajectory equation (QTE) after polaron transformation and converted to the form of Stratonovich calculus. We find that the solution is a generalization of the elegant quantum Bayesian approach developed in arXiv:1111.4016 by Korotokov and currently applied to circuit-QED measurements. The new result improves both the diagonal and offdiagonal elements of the qubit density matrix, via amending the distribution probabilities of the output currents and several important phase factors. Compared to numerical integration of the QTE, the resultant quantum Bayesian rule promises higher efficiency to update the measured state, and allows more efficient and analytical studies for some interesting problems such as quantum weak values, past quantum state, and quantum state smoothing. The method of this work opens also a new way to obtain quantum Bayesian formulas for other systems and in more complicated cases.

Exact solutions of semilinear radial Schrodinger equations by separation of group foliation variables

Explicit solutions are obtained for a class of semilinear radial Schrodinger equations with power nonlinearities in multi-dimensions. These solutions include new similarity solutions and other new group-invariant solutions, as well as new solutions that are not invariant under any symmetries of this class of equations. Many of the solutions have interesting analytical behavior connected with blow-up and dispersion. Several interesting nonlinearity powers arise in these solutions, including the case of the critical (pseudo-conformal) power. In contrast, standard symmetry reduction methods lead to nonlinear ODEs for which few if any explicit solutions can be derived by standard integration methods.

Kadomtsev-Petviashvili system and reduction: generalized Cauchy matrix approach

By the Sylvester equation $\bL\bM-\bM\bK=\br\bs^{\st}$ together with an evolution equation set of $\br$ and $\bs$, generalized Cauchy matrix approach is established to investigate exact solutions for Kadomtsev-Petviashvili system, including Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation, modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation and Schwarzian Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. The matrix $\bM$ provides $τ$-function by $τ=|\bI+\bM\bC|$. With the help of some recurrence relations, the reduction to Korteweg-de Vries system, Boussinesq system and extended Boussinesq system are also discussed.

Generalized Cauchy matrix approach for non-autonomous discrete Kadomtsev-Petviashvili system

In this paper, we investigate the non-autonomous discrete Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) system in terms of generalized Cauchy matrix approach. These equations include non-autonomous bilinear lattice KP equation, non-autonomous lattice potential KP equation, non-autonomous lattice potential modified KP equation, non-autonomous asymmetric lattice potential modified KP equation, non-autonomous lattice Schwarzian KP equation and non-autonomous lattice KP-type Nijhoff-Quispel-Capel equation. By introducing point transformations, all the equations are described as simplified forms, where the lattice parameters are absorbed. Several kinds of solutions more than multi-soliton solutions to these equations are derived by solving determining equation set. Lax representations for these equations are also discussed.

ESSP: An Efficient Approach to Minimizing Dense and Nonsubmodular Energy Functions

Many recent advances in computer vision have demonstrated the impressive power of dense and nonsubmodular energy functions in solving visual labeling problems. However, minimizing such energies is challenging. None of existing techniques (such as s-t graph cut, QPBO, BP and TRW-S) can individually do this well. In this paper, we present an efficient method, namely ESSP, to optimize binary MRFs with arbitrary pairwise potentials, which could be nonsubmodular and with dense connectivity. We also provide a comparative study of our approach and several recent promising methods. From our study, we make some reasonable recommendations of combining existing methods that perform the best in different situations for this challenging problem. Experimental results validate that for dense and nonsubmodular energy functions, the proposed approach can usually obtain lower energies than the best combination of other techniques using comparably reasonable time.

Noise Equivalent Counts Based Emission Image Reconstruction Algorithm of Tomographic Gamma Scanning

Tomographic Gamma Scanning (TGS) is a technique used to assay the nuclide distribution and radioactivity in nuclear waste drums. Both transmission and emission scans are performed in TGS and the transmission image is used for the attenuation correction in emission reconstructions. The error of the transmission image, which is not considered by the existing reconstruction algorithms, negatively affects the final results. An emission reconstruction method based on Noise Equivalent Counts (NEC) is presented. Noises from the attenuation image are concentrated to the projection data to apply the NEC Maximum-Likelihood Expectation-Maximization algorithm. Experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulation: An approach based on quantum measurement picture

Mixed-quantum-classical molecular dynamics simulation implies an effective measurement on the electronic states owing to continuously tracking the atomic forces.Based on this insight, we propose a quantum trajectory mean-field approach for nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations. The new protocol provides a natural interface between the separate quantum and classical treatments, without invoking artificial surface hopping algorithm. Moreover, it also bridges two widely adopted nonadiabatic dynamics methods, the Ehrenfest mean-field theory and the trajectory surface-hopping method. Excellent agreement with the exact results is illustrated with representative model systems, including the challenging ones for traditional methods.

Effect of atomic distribution on cooperative spontaneous emission

We study cooperative single-photon spontaneous emission from N multilevel atoms for different atomic distributions in optical vector theory. Instead of the average approximation for interatomic distance or the continuum approximation (sums over atoms replaced by integrals) for atomic distribution, the positions of every atom are taken into account by numerical calculation. It is shown that the regularity of atomic distribution has considerable influence on cooperative spontaneous emission. For a small atomic sample (compared with radiation wavelength), to obtain strong superradiance not only needs the uniform excitation (the Dicke state) but also requires the uniform atomic distribution. For a large sample, the uniform atomic distribution is beneficial to subradiance of the Dicke state, while the influence of atomic distribution on the timed Dicke state is weak and its time evolution obeys exponential decay approximately. In addition, we also investigate the corresponding emission spectrum and verify the directed emission for the timed Dicke state for a large atomic sample.

Group-invariant solutions of semilinear Schrodinger equations in multi- dimensions

Symmetry group methods are applied to obtain all explicit group-invariant radial solutions to a class of semilinear Schrodinger equations in dimensions $n\neq 1$. Both focusing and defocusing cases of a power nonlinearity are considered, including the special case of the conformal power $p=4/n$ relevant for critical dynamics. The methods involve, firstly, reduction of the semilinear Schrodinger equations to group-invariant complex 2nd order ODEs with respect to an optimal set of one-dimensional point symmetry groups, and secondly, use of inherited symmetries, hidden symmetries, and conditional symmetries to solve each ODE by quadratures. Through Noether's theorem, all conservation laws arising from these point symmetry groups are listed.

The Generation of Super-Resolving Single-Photon Path-Entangled State

In this paper, we propose two protocols for generating super-resolving \textit{single-photon} path-entangled states from general maximally path-entangled N00N states. We also show that both protocols generate the desired state with different probabilities depending on the type of detectors being used. Such super-resolving single-photon path-entangled states preserve high resolving power but lack the requirement of a multi-photon absorbing resist, which makes this state a perfect candidate for quantum lithography.
