Retrieval of Sparse Solutions of Multiple-Measurement Vectors via Zero-point Attracting Projection

A new sparse signal recovery algorithm for multiple-measurement vectors (MMV) problem is proposed in this paper. The sparse representation is iteratively drawn based on the idea of zero-point attracting projection (ZAP). In each iteration, the solution is first updated along the negative gradient direction of an approximate $\ell_{2,0}$ norm to encourage sparsity, and then projected to the solution space to satisfy the under-determined equation. A variable step size scheme is adopted further to accelerate the convergence as well as to improve the recovery accuracy. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the performance of the proposed algorithm exceeds the references in various aspects, as well as when applied to the Modulated Wideband Converter, where recovering MMV problem is crucial to its performance.

Cooperative spontaneous emission of three identical atoms

We study the influence of the distribution of atoms on the cooperative spontaneous emission by a simple model of three identical atoms. The effects of counter rotating terms are included by a unitary transformation method. By discussing two special cases that the three atoms are arranged as an equilateral triangle and in a straight line, we find that the superradiance of the coherent system largely dependent on the homogeneity of the atoms' distribution. If the atoms distribute symmetrically, the superradiant emission will be enhanced. Next, we calculate the emission spectra of three identical atoms under the single-photon state. We find that the distribution of atoms also has a great impact on the lamb shift and the spectrum. If three atoms are placed into an equilateral triangle and the same dipole moment is perpendicular to the plane of the three atoms, the spectrum will degenerate into two peaks from the three peaks for general case.

Quantum Trajectory Approach to Molecular Dynamics Simulation with Surface Hopping

The powerful molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is basically based on a picture that the atoms experience classical-like trajectories under the exertion of classical force field determined by the quantum mechanically solved electronic state. In this work we propose a quantum trajectory approach to the MD simulation with surface hopping, from an insight that an effective "observation" is actually implied in theMDsimulation through tracking the forces experienced, just like checking the meter's result in the quantum measurement process. This treatment can build the nonadiabatic surface hopping on a dynamical foundation, instead of the usual artificial and conceptually inconsistent hopping algorithms. The effects and advantages of the proposed scheme are preliminarily illustrated by a two-surface model system.

Higher-Order Markov Tag-Topic Models for Tagged Documents and Images

This paper studies the topic modeling problem of tagged documents and images. Higher-order relations among tagged documents and images are major and ubiquitous characteristics, and play positive roles in extracting reliable and interpretable topics. In this paper, we propose the tag-topic models (TTM) to depict such higher-order topic structural dependencies within the Markov random field (MRF) framework. First, we use the novel factor graph representation of latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)-based topic models from the MRF perspective, and present an efficient loopy belief propagation (BP) algorithm for approximate inference and parameter estimation. Second, we propose the factor hypergraph representation of TTM, and focus on both pairwise and higher-order relation modeling among tagged documents and images. Efficient loopy BP algorithm is developed to learn TTM, which encourages the topic labeling smoothness among tagged documents and images. Extensive experimental results confirm the incorporation of higher-order relations to be effective in enhancing the overall topic modeling performance, when compared with current state-of-the-art topic models, in many text and image mining tasks of broad interests such as word and link prediction, document classification, and tag recommendation.

Generating and stabilizing the GHZ state in circuit QED: Joint measurement, Zeno effect and feedback

In solid-state circuit QED system, we extend the previous study of generating and stabilizing two-qubit Bell state [Phys. Rev. A 82, 032335 (2010)], to three-qubit GHZ state. In dispersive regime, we employ the homodyne joint readout for multiple qubits to infer the state for further processing, and in particular use it to stabilize the state directly by means of an alternate-flip-interrupted Zeno (AFIZ) scheme. Moreover, the state-of-the-art feedback action based on the filtered current enables not only a deterministic generation of the pre-GHZ state in the initial stage, but also a fast recovery from the environment-caused degradation in the later stabilization process. We show that the proposed scheme can maintain the state with high fidelity if the efficient quantum measurement and rapid single-qubit rotations are available.

Traveling waves and their Stability for a Public Goods Game Model

We study the traveling wave solutions to a reaction diffusion system modeling the public goods game with altruistic behaviors. The existence of the waves is derived through monotone iteration of a pair of classical upper- and lower solutions. The waves are shown to be unique and strictly monotonic. A similar KPP wave like asymptotic behaviors are obtained by comparison principle and exponential dichotomy. The stability of the traveling waves with non-critical speed is investigate by spectral analysis in the weighted Banach spaces.

Traveling Wave Solutions for Lotka-Volterra System Re-Visited

Using a new method of monotone iteration of a pair of smooth lower- and upper-solutions, the traveling wave solutions of the classical Lotka-Volterra system are shown to exist for a family of wave speeds. Such constructed upper and lower solution pair enables us to derive the explicit value of the minimal (critical) wave speed as well as the asymptotic rates of the wave solutions at infinities. Furthermore, the traveling wave corresponding to each wave speed is unique modulo a translation of the origin. The stability of the traveling wave solutions with non-critical wave speed is also studied by spectral analysis of the linearized operator in exponentially weighted Banach spaces.
