MSSM Under Higgs Factories

The high precision measurements of the Higgs mass and couplings at the future Higgs factories are sensitive to the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Focused on the dominant stop sector contributions, we study the implication of the Higgs precision measurements on MSSM using multi-variable $χ^2$ fit. The results show nice complementarity between the indirect searches at Higgs factories and the direct searches at the current LHC program.

Exotic Higgs Decays in the Type-II 2HDMs at Current and Future pp Colliders

The exotic decay modes of non-Standard Model Higgses can serve as powerful search channels to explore the parameter space of extended Higgs sectors. In this Snowmass contribution, we illustrate this using the Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) as an example. We first review the current experimental constraints on the parameter space of a Type-II 2HDM arising from existing searches for the exotic Higgs decay mode $A/H\rightarrow HZ/AZ$. We then present the sensitivity of future colliders to discover addition Higgs bosons using the exotic decay channels $A\rightarrow HZ$, $A\rightarrow H^\pm W^\mp$ and $H^\pm\rightarrow H W^\pm$. We find that a 100 TeV collider can probe almost the entire region of the Type-II 2HDM parameter space that survives current theoretical and experimental constraints and would therefore be an ideal machine to search for heavier Higgses in hierarchical scalar sectors.

Electroweak Phase Transition in 2HDM under Higgs, Z-pole, and W precision measurements

In this work we revisit the existence of a strong first order electroweak phase transition (SFOEWPT) and recent $m_W$ precision measurement in the Type-I and Type-II 2HDMs. The O(100) GeV new scalars in 2HDMs are favored by SFOEWPT, which is necessary for electroweak baryogenesis, and observed $m_W$ shift as well. % We find that under current constraints, both Type-I and Type-II 2HDM can explain the SFOEWPT, Z-pole, Higgs precision measurements and $m_W$ precision measurement of CDF-II at same time, and all these precision measurements are sensitive to heavy Higgs mass splitting in 2HDM. The allowed regions are $Δm_{A/C} \in (-400, 400) GeV, \tanb\in(1,50)$, and $Δm_{A/C} \in (-200, 300) GeV, \tanb\in(1,12)$ for Type-I and Type-II 2HDM respectively. Furthermore future lepton collider measurements on Higgs and $Z$ boson properties can explore this scenario in more detail or even rule out it.

Simple and statistically sound recommendations for analysing physical theories

Physical theories that depend on many parameters or are tested against data from many different experiments pose unique challenges to statistical inference. Many models in particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology fall into one or both of these categories. These issues are often sidestepped with statistically unsound ad hoc methods, involving intersection of parameter intervals estimated by multiple experiments, and random or grid sampling of model parameters. Whilst these methods are easy to apply, they exhibit pathologies even in low-dimensional parameter spaces, and quickly become problematic to use and interpret in higher dimensions. In this article we give clear guidance for going beyond these procedures, suggesting where possible simple methods for performing statistically sound inference, and recommendations of readily-available software tools and standards that can assist in doing so. Our aim is to provide any physicists lacking comprehensive statistical training with recommendations for reaching correct scientific conclusions, with only a modest increase in analysis burden. Our examples can be reproduced with the code publicly available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4322283.

Global fit of 2HDM with future collider results

In this work, we summarize a global fit study of Type-II two Higgs doublet models (2HDM), and explore the impact of future SM-like Higgs and Z-pole precision measurements on the allowed parameter space. The work is based on the study results of a global fit of 2HDMs with the tool GAMBIT, utilising various current constraints including theoretical constraints (unitarity, perturbativity and vacuum stability), Higgs searches at colliders, electroweak physics and flavour constraints. We further investigate the ability of future facilities, such as the HL-LHC, CEPC, ILC and FCC-ee to explore the 2HDM parameter space.

Heavy Higgs Bosons in 2HDM at a Muon Collider

We study the discovery potential of the non-Standard Model (SM) heavy Higgs bosons in the Two-Higgs-Doublet Models (2HDMs) at a multi-TeV muon collider and explore the discrimination power among different types of 2HDMs. We find that the pair production of the non-SM Higgs bosons via the universal gauge interactions is the dominant mechanism once above the kinematic threshold. Single Higgs boson production associated with a pair of heavy fermions could be important in the parameter region with enhanced Yukawa couplings. For both signal final states, $μ^+μ^-$ annihilation channels dominate over the vector boson fusion (VBF) processes, except at high center of mass energies where the VBF processes receive large logarithmic enhancement with the increase of energies. Single Higgs boson $s$-channel production in $μ^+μ^-$-annihilation via the radiative return can also be important for the Type-L 2HDM in the very large $\tanβ$ region, extending the kinematic reach of the heavy Higgs boson mass to the collider energy. Considering both the production and decay of non-SM Higgs bosons, signals can be identified over the Standard Model backgrounds. With the pair production channels via annihilation, 95\% C.L. exclusion reaches in the Higgs mass up to the production mass threshold of $\sqrt{s}/2$ are possible when channels with different final states are combined. Including single production modes can extended the reach further. Different types of 2HDMs can be distinguishable for moderate and large values of $\tanβ$.

Orbital effects on time delay interferometry for TianQin

The proposed space-borne laser interferometric gravitational wave (GW) observatory TianQin adopts a geocentric orbit for its nearly equilateral triangular constellation formed by three identical drag-free satellites. The geocentric distance of each satellite is $\approx 1.0 \times 10^{5} ~\mathrm{km}$, which makes the armlengths of the interferometer be $\approx 1.73 \times 10^{5} ~\mathrm{km}$. It is aimed to detect the GWs in $0.1 ~\mathrm{mHz}-1 ~\mathrm{Hz}$. For space-borne detectors, the armlengths are unequal and change continuously which results in that the laser frequency noise is nearly $7-8$ orders of magnitude higher than the secondary noises (such as acceleration noise, optical path noise, etc.). The time delay interferometry (TDI) that synthesizes virtual interferometers from time-delayed one-way frequency measurements has been proposed to suppress the laser frequency noise to the level that is comparable or below the secondary noises. In this work, we evaluate the performance of various data combinations for both first- and second-generation TDI based on the five-year numerically optimized orbits of the TianQin's satellites which exhibit the actual rotating and flexing of the constellation. We find that the time differences of symmetric interference paths of the data combinations are $\sim 10^{-8}$ s for the first-generation TDI and $\sim 10^{-12}$ s for the second-generation TDI, respectively. While the second-generation TDI is guaranteed to be valid for TianQin, the first-generation TDI is possible to be competent for GW signal detection with improved stabilization of the laser frequency noise in the concerned GW frequencies.

Analyses of Laser Propagation Noises for TianQin Gravitational Wave Observatory Based on the Global Magnetosphere MHD Simulations

TianQin is a proposed space-borne gravitational wave (GW) observatory composed of three identical satellites orbiting around the geocenter with a radius of $10^5$ km. It aims at detecting GWs in the frequency range of 0.1 mHz -- 1 Hz. The detection of GW relies on the high precision measurement of optical path length at $10^{-12}$~m level. The dispersion of space plasma can lead to the optical path difference (OPD, $Δl$) along the propagation of laser beams between any pair of satellites. Here, we study the OPD noises for TianQin. The Space Weather Modeling Framework is used to simulate the interaction between the Earth magnetosphere and solar wind. From the simulations, we extract the magnetic field and plasma parameters on the orbits of TianQin at four relative positions of the satellite constellation in the Earth magnetosphere. We calculate the OPD noise for single link, Michelson combination, and Time-Delay Interferometry (TDI) combinations ($α$ and $X$). For single link and Michelson interferometer, the maxima of $|Δl|$ are on the order of 1 pm. For the TDI combinations, these can be suppressed to about 0.004 and 0.008 pm for $α$ and $X$. The OPD noise of the Michelson combination is colored in the concerned frequency range; while the ones for the TDI combinations are approximately white. Furthermore, we calculate the ratio of the equivalent strain of the OPD noise to that of TQ, and find that the OPD noises for the TDI combinations can be neglected in the most sensitive frequency range of TQ.

Global fits of axion-like particles to XENON1T and astrophysical data

The excess of electron recoil events seen by the XENON1T experiment has been interpreted as a potential signal of axion-like particles (ALPs), either produced in the Sun, or constituting part of the dark matter halo of the Milky Way. It has also been explained as a consequence of trace amounts of tritium in the experiment. We consider the evidence for the solar and dark-matter ALP hypotheses from the combination of XENON1T data and multiple astrophysical probes, including horizontal branch stars, red giants, and white dwarfs. We briefly address the influence of ALP decays and supernova cooling. While the different datasets are in clear tension for the case of solar ALPs, all measurements can be simultaneously accommodated for the case of a sub-dominant fraction of dark-matter ALPs. Nevertheless, this solution requires the tuning of several a priori unknown parameters, such that for our choices of priors a Bayesian analysis shows no strong preference for the ALP interpretation of the XENON1T excess over the background hypothesis.

Effects of the space plasma density oscillation on the inter-spacecraft laser ranging for TianQin gravitational wave observatory

The TianQin space Gravitational Waves (GW) observatory will contain 3 geocentric and circularly orbiting spacecraft with an orbital radius of 10^5 km, to detect the GW in the milli-hertz frequency band. Each spacecraft pair will establish a 1.7*10^5 km-long laser interferometer immersed in the solar wind and the magnetospheric plasmas to measure the phase deviations induced by the GW. GW detection requires a high-precision measurement of the laser phase. The cumulative effects of the long distance and the periodic oscillations of the plasma density may induce an additional phase noise. This paper aims to model the plasma induced phase deviation of the inter-spacecraft laser signals, using a realistic orbit simulator and the Space Weather Modeling Framework (SWMF) model. Preliminary results show that the plasma density oscillation can induce the phase deviations close to 2*10^-6 rad/Hz^1/2 or 0.3pm/Hz^1/2 in the milli-hertz frequency band and it is within the error budget assigned to the displacement noise of the interferometry. The amplitude spectrum density of phases along three arms become more separated when the orbital plane is parallel to the Sun-Earth line or during a magnetic storm. Finally, the dependence of the phase deviations on the orbital radius is examined.

Convergent Bayesian Global Fits of 4D Composite Higgs Models

Models in which the Higgs boson is a composite pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson offer attractive solutions to the Higgs mass naturalness problem. We consider three such models based on the minimal $SO(5) \rightarrow SO(4)$ symmetry breaking pattern, and perform convergent global fits on the models under a Bayesian framework in order to find the regions of their parameter spaces that best fit a wide range of constraints, including recent Higgs measurements. We use a novel technique to analyse the fine-tuning of the models, quantifying the tuning as the Kullback-Leibler divergence from the prior to the posterior probability on the parameter space. Each model is found to be able to satisfy all constraints at the $3σ$ level simultaneously. As a by-product of the fits, we analyse the collider phenomenology of our models in these viable regions. In two of the three models, we find that the $g g \rightarrow H \rightarrow γγ$ cross section is less than ${\sim}90$% that predicted by the SM, which is already in slight tension with experiment and could potentially be ruled out in the future high-luminosity run of the LHC. In addition, the lightest fermions $F$ arising from the new strong dynamics in these models are seen in general to lie above ${\sim}1.1$ TeV, with the $F \rightarrow tW^{+}$ and $F \rightarrow \bar{b}W^{+}$ decays offering particularly promising channels for probing these models in future collider searches.

The Open Brands Dataset: Unified brand detection and recognition at scale

Intellectual property protection(IPP) have received more and more attention recently due to the development of the global e-commerce platforms. brand recognition plays a significant role in IPP. Recent studies for brand recognition and detection are based on small-scale datasets that are not comprehensive enough when exploring emerging deep learning techniques. Moreover, it is challenging to evaluate the true performance of brand detection methods in realistic and open scenes. In order to tackle these problems, we first define the special issues of brand detection and recognition compared with generic object detection. Second, a novel brands benchmark called "Open Brands" is established. The dataset contains 1,437,812 images which have brands and 50,000 images without any brand. The part with brands in Open Brands contains 3,113,828 instances annotated in 3 dimensions: 4 types, 559 brands and 1216 logos. To the best of our knowledge, it is the largest dataset for brand detection and recognition with rich annotations. We provide in-depth comprehensive statistics about the dataset, validate the quality of the annotations and study how the performance of many modern models evolves with an increasing amount of training data. Third, we design a network called "Brand Net" to handle brand recognition. Brand Net gets state-of-art mAP on Open Brand compared with existing detection methods.

2HDM Neutral Scalars under the LHC

Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM) provide a simple framework for new physics models with an extended Higgs sector. The current LHC results, including both direct searches for additional non-Standard Model (SM) Higgs bosons, as well as precision measurements of the SM-like Higgs couplings, already provide strong constraints on the 2HDM parameter spaces. In this paper, we examine those constraints for the neutral scalars in the Type-I and Type-II 2HDM. In addition to the direct search channels with SM final states: $H/A \to f\bar f, VV, Vh, hh$, we study in particular the exotic decay channels of $H/A \to AZ/HZ$ once there is a mass hierarchy between the non-SM Higgses. We found that $H/A \to AZ/HZ$ channel has unique sensitivity to the alignment limit region which remains unconstrained by conventional searches and Higgs precision measurements. This mode also extends the reach at intermediate $\tanβ$ for heavy $m_A$ that are not covered by the other direct searches.

Type-I 2HDM under the Higgs and Electroweak Precision Measurements

We explore the extent to which future precision measurements of the Standard Model (SM) observables at the proposed $Z$-factories and Higgs factories may have impacts on new physics beyond the Standard Model, as illustrated by studying the Type-I Two-Higgs-doublet model (Type-I 2HDM). We include the contributions from the heavy Higgs bosons at the tree-level and at the one-loop level in a full model-parameter space. While only small $\tanβ$ region is strongly constrained at tree level, the large $\tanβ$ region gets constrained at loop level due to $\tanβ$ enhanced tri-Higgs couplings. We perform a multiple variable global fit with non-alignment and non-degenerate masses. We find that the allowed parameter ranges could be tightly constrained by the future Higgs precision measurements, especially for small and large values of $\tanβ$. Indirect limits on the masses of heavy Higgs bosons can be obtained, which can be complementary to the direct searches of the heavy Higgs bosons at hadron colliders. We also find that the expected accuracies at the $Z$-pole and at a Higgs factory are quite complementary in constraining mass splittings of heavy Higgs bosons. The typical results are $|\cos(β-α)| < 0.05, |Δm_Φ| < 200\ {\rm GeV}$, and $\tanβ\gtrsim 0.3$. The reaches from CEPC, FCCee and ILC are also compared, for both Higgs and $Z$-pole precision measurements. Comparing to the Type-II 2HDM, the 95\% C.L. allowed range of $\cos(β-α)$ is larger, especially for large values of $\tanβ$.

Strong first order electroweak phase transition in 2HDM confronting future Z & Higgs factories

The electroweak phase transition can be made first order by extending the Standard Model (SM) Higgs sector with extra scalars. The same new physics can explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe by supplying an extra source of CP violation and sphaleron processes. In this paper we study the existence of a strong first order electroweak phase transition (SFOEWPT) in the type-I and type-II two Higgs doublet models (2HDM). We focus on how the SFOEWPT requirement constraints the spectrum of non-SM Higgs. Through a parameter space scan, we find that SFOEWPT suggests upper limits on the masses of heavy Higgs $m_{A/H/H^\pm}$, which is less than 1 TeV. High temperature expansion and Higgs vacuum uplifting is used for an analytical understanding of our results. We also study the probe ability on SFOEWPT from Higgs and $Z$-pole precision measurements at the one-loop level at future Higgs & $Z$ factories. And together with theoretical constraints, sizeable loop corrections require $m_A \approx m_{H^\pm} > m_H$ to meet SFOEWPT condition in Type-II 2HDM.

The future probe of the light Higgs boson pair production

In this work we study the light Higgs scenario in the framework of two Higgs doublet model (2HDM). In this case the heavier CP-even Higgs boson $H$ in 2HDM is the SM-like Higgs with 125 GeV mass and a CP-even Higgs boson $h$ lighter than 125 GeV exhibits in the spectrum. We find that this scenario exists in the alignment limit of $\sin(β-α)\simeq 0$ and is still allowed by the global fit of the 125 GeV Higgs and the direct searches for $H\to hh$ and $h\to γγ$. The case of $M_h M_H/2$ case and simulate the pair production of the light Higgs boson at the LHC. The pair production is sensitive to the soft $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry breaking term $m_{12}$ in the 2HDM potential through the Higgs self-couplings. We find that the future high-luminosity LHC can discover the $b\bar{b}γγ$ signal in the region of $\tanβ\lesssim 1$ and $0<m_{12}<100$ GeV allowed by the theoretical constraints.

MSSM at future Higgs factories

In this work, we study the implication of Higgs precision measurements at future Higgs factories on the MSSM parameter space, focusing on the dominant stop sector contributions. We perform a multi-variable fit to both the signal strength for various Higgs decay channels at Higgs factories and the Higgs mass. The chi-square fit results show sensitivity to mA, tan beta, stop mass parameter mSUSY as well as the stop left-right mixing parameter Xt. We also study the impact of the Higgs mass prediction on the MSSM and compare the sensitivities of different Higgs factories.

Quasi-synchronization of bounded confidence opinion dynamics with stochastic asynchronous rule

Recently the theory of noise-induced synchronization of Hegselmann-Krause (HK) dynamics has been well developed. As a typical opinion dynamics of bounded confidence, the HK model obeys a synchronous updating rule, i.e., \emph{all} agents check and update their opinions at each time point. However, whether asynchronous bounded confidence models, including the famous Deffuant-Weisbuch (DW) model, can be synchronized by noise have not been theoretically proved. In this paper, we propose a generalized bounded confidence model which possesses a stochastic asynchronous rule. The model takes the DW model and the HK model as special cases and can significantly generalize the bounded confidence models to practical application. We discover that the asynchronous model possesses a different noise-based synchronization behavior compared to the synchronous HK model. Generally, the HK dynamics can achieve quasi-synchronization \emph{almost surely} under the drive of noise. For the asynchronous dynamics, we prove that the model can achieve quasi-synchronization \emph{in mean}, which is a new type of quasi-synchronization weaker than the "almost surely" sense. The results unify the theory of noise-induced synchronization of bounded confidence opinion dynamics and hence proves the noise-induced synchronization of DW model theoretically for the first time. Moreover, the results provide a theoretical foundation for developing noise-based control strategy of more complex social opinion systems with stochastic asynchronous rules.
