Intelligent Resilience Testing for Decision-Making Agents with Dual-Mode Surrogate Adaptation

Testing and evaluating decision-making agents remains challenging due to unknown system architectures, limited access to internal states, and the vastness of high-dimensional scenario spaces. Existing testing approaches often rely on surrogate models of decision-making agents to generate large-scale scenario libraries; however, discrepancies between surrogate models and real decision-making agents significantly limit their generalizability and practical applicability. To address this challenge, this paper proposes intelligent resilience testing (IRTest), a unified online adaptive testing framework designed to rapidly adjust to diverse decision-making agents. IRTest initializes with an offline-trained surrogate prediction model and progressively reduces surrogate-to-real gap during testing through two complementary adaptation mechanisms: (i) online neural fine-tuning in data-rich regimes, and (ii) lightweight importance-sampling-based weighting correction in data-limited regimes. A Bayesian optimization strategy, equipped with bias-corrected acquisition functions, guides scenario generation to balance exploration and exploitation in complex testing spaces. Extensive experiments across varying levels of task complexity and system heterogeneity demonstrate that IRTest consistently improves failure-discovery efficiency, testing robustness, and cross-system generalizability. These results highlight the potential of IRTest as a practical solution for scalable, adaptive, and resilient testing of decision-making agents.

DAGNet: A Dual-View Attention-Guided Network for Efficient X-ray Security Inspection

With the rapid development of modern transportation systems and the exponential growth of logistics volumes, intelligent X-ray-based security inspection systems play a crucial role in public safety. Although single-view X-ray baggage scanner is widely deployed, they struggles to accurately identify contraband in complex stacking scenarios due to strong viewpoint dependency and inadequate feature representation. To address this, we propose a Dual-View Attention-Guided Network for Efficient X-ray Security Inspection (DAGNet). This study builds on a shared-weight backbone network as the foundation and constructs three key modules that work together: (1) Frequency Domain Interaction Module (FDIM) dynamically enhances features by adjusting frequency components based on inter-view relationships; (2) Dual-View Hierarchical Enhancement Module (DVHEM) employs cross-attention to align features between views and capture hierarchical associations; (3) Convolutional Guided Fusion Module (CGFM) fuses features to suppress redundancy while retaining critical discriminative information. Collectively, these modules substantially improve the performance of dual-view X-ray security inspection. Experimental results demonstrate that DAGNet outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches across multiple backbone architectures. The code is available at:https://github.com/ShilongHong/DAGNet.

Exploring Critical Testing Scenarios for Decision-Making Policies: An LLM Approach

Recent advances in decision-making policies have led to significant progress in fields such as autonomous driving and robotics. However, testing these policies remains crucial with the existence of critical scenarios that may threaten their reliability. Despite ongoing research, challenges such as low testing efficiency and limited diversity persist due to the complexity of the decision-making policies and their environments. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an adaptable Large Language Model (LLM)-driven online testing framework to explore critical and diverse testing scenarios for decision-making policies. Specifically, we design a "generate-test-feedback" pipeline with templated prompt engineering to harness the world knowledge and reasoning abilities of LLMs. Additionally, a multi-scale scenario generation strategy is proposed to address the limitations of LLMs in making fine-grained adjustments, further enhancing testing efficiency. Finally, the proposed LLM-driven method is evaluated on five widely recognized benchmarks, and the experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms baseline methods in uncovering both critical and diverse scenarios. These findings suggest that LLM-driven methods hold significant promise for advancing the testing of decision-making policies.

Root Sparse Bayesian Learning for Off-Grid DOA Estimation

The performance of the existing sparse Bayesian learning (SBL) methods for off-gird DOA estimation is dependent on the trade off between the accuracy and the computational workload. To speed up the off-grid SBL method while remain a reasonable accuracy, this letter describes a computationally efficient root SBL method for off-grid DOA estimation, where a coarse refinable grid, whose sampled locations are viewed as the adjustable parameters, is adopted. We utilize an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm to iteratively refine this coarse grid, and illustrate that each updated grid point can be simply achieved by the root of a certain polynomial. Simulation results demonstrate that the computational complexity is significantly reduced and the modeling error can be almost eliminated.

Large-area, low-voltage, anti-ambipolar heterojunctions from solution-processed semiconductors

The emergence of semiconducting materials with inert or dangling bond-free surfaces has created opportunities to form van der Waals heterostructures without the constraints of traditional epitaxial growth. For example, layered two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have been incorporated into heterostructure devices with gate-tunable electronic and optical functionalities. However, 2D materials present processing challenges that have prevented these heterostructures from being produced with sufficient scalability and/or homogeneity to enable their incorporation into large-area integrated circuits. Here, we extend the concept of van der Waals heterojunctions to semiconducting p-type single-walled carbon nanotube (s-SWCNT) and n-type amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) thin films that can be solution-processed or sputtered with high spatial uniformity at the wafer scale. The resulting large-area, low-voltage p-n heterojunctions exhibit anti-ambipolar transfer characteristics with high on/off ratios that are well-suited for electronic, optoelectronic, and telecommunication technologies.

Comparison of Spearman's rho and Kendall's tau in Normal and Contaminated Normal Models

This paper analyzes the performances of the Spearman's rho (SR) and Kendall's tau (KT) with respect to samples drawn from bivariate normal and bivariate contaminated normal populations. The exact analytical formulae of the variance of SR and the covariance between SR and KT are obtained based on the Childs's reduction formula for the quadrivariate normal positive orthant probabilities. Close form expressions with respect to the expectations of SR and KT are established under the bivariate contaminated normal models. The bias, mean square error (MSE) and asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) of the three estimators based on SR and KT to the Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient (PPMCC) are investigated in both the normal and contaminated normal models. Theoretical and simulation results suggest that, contrary to the opinion of equivalence between SR and KT in some literature, the behaviors of SR and KT are strikingly different in the aspects of bias effect, variance, mean square error, and asymptotic relative efficiency. The new findings revealed in this work provide not only deeper insights into the two most widely used rank based correlation coefficients, but also a guidance for choosing which one to use under the circumstances where the PPMCC fails to apply.
