Search for neutrinoless quadruple beta decay of $^{136}$Xe in PandaX-4T detector

The observation of neutrinoless quadruple beta decay (0$\nu$4$\beta$) in the absence of neutrinoless double beta decay (0$\nu$2$\beta$) has been argued to provide a strong indication that neutrinos are Dirac particles. We report a search for 0$\nu$4$\beta$ decay of $^{136}\text{Xe}$ using a total $^{136}\text{Xe}$ exposure of 148.4 kg$\cdot$yr, collected during the commissioning and the first science runs of the PandaX-4T experiment. No significant excess of events over the background is observed. A lower limit on the 0$\nu$4$\beta$ decay half-life of $^{136}\text{Xe}$ is set at 6.01 x $10^{24}$ yr at the 90% confidence level. This result establishes the most stringent constraint on this process in xenon, demonstrating the unique capability of the PandaX-4T detector in probing lepton number violation and shedding light on the fundamental nature of neutrinos.

DeaMoE: Efficient MoE Structure for Fast Small-Batch Decoding

Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models have been widely adopted in real-time interactive applications such as coding assistants, real-time audio-video interaction systems. To meet the extremely low response latency requirements of these scenarios, practitioners commonly employ small-batch decoding, under which MoE inference becomes memory-bound and is severely bottlenecked by expert weight loading. However, this bottleneck has received limited attention, and existing solutions such as post-training weight compression or fine-grained expert design during pre-training either degrade model accuracy or introduce additional computation and communication overhead. To tackle this issue, we propose DeaMoE, a decoding-efficient MoE architecture, in which the experts are grouped into several departments, and the experts belonging to the same department share most parameters since they come from the same professional field, and additionally each expert contains a few private parameters to reflect its uniqueness. Moreover, we design customized two-stage routing strategy for DeaMoE to avoid redundant loading, under which DeaMoE greatly improves the efficiency during LLM decoding. Compared with vanilla MoE, DeaMoE reduces per-step loaded weights by up to 50.9% and achieves up to 1.33 end-to-end TPOT speedup for the pre-trained 7B model on A40, and up to 2.00x and 1.97x peak speedup for DeepSeek-V3 on A40 and H100 in microbenchmarks.

Diff-Symbo: Text-Controlled Long-Duration Symbolic Music Generation Using Autoregressive Latent Diffusion Model

Text-controlled symbolic music generation has recently gained research attention due to its versatile, flexible and straightforward approach to music composition. However, previous approaches tend to generate symbolic music with compromising quality, diversity, controllability and limited duration. In this paper, we present Diff-Symbo, an innovative method that uses latent diffusion model (LDM) to generate high-quality, diverse and long-duration symbolic music. To address the lack of text-symbolic music dataset, we develop a comprehensive dataset with 19,345 text templates by employing large language model. Furthermore, we design a music information encoder to reduce the training overhead while extracting more effective control representations. Given textual descriptions, our proposed method leverages LDM to improve the quality and diversity of music generation. Our method also improves the duration and the compositional consistency of music generation through an autoregressive approach. Experimental results show significant improvements of Diff-Symbo in text controllability, duration, and the quality of generated music compared to the baseline models such as GPT-4, MuseCoco and Multitrack Music Transformer (MMT). As one of the pioneer models in this field, Diff-Symbo paves the way towards controllable and high-quality symbolic music composition based on LDM, offering valuable contributions to both music amateurs and practitioners.

StableMimic: Smooth Human-Like Recovery for Humanoid Motion Tracking - Learning Beyond the Tracking Distribution for Structured Post-Fall Behavior

Humanoid motion trackers perform reliably within learned tracking distributions, but falls can move the robot into low-height, contact-rich states from which an advancing command is temporarily unreachable. Tracking-only policies may chase infeasible references, producing rapid, large-amplitude limb corrections that increase risk to the robot and its surroundings. We present StableMimic, a unified tracker trained beyond the nominal tracking distribution. Perturbed resets around multiple human get-up references expose prone, supine, off-balance, and intermediate ground-contact states, shaping structured recovery that returns the robot to the trackable region. Because tracking and recovery occupy markedly different state--action distributions, StableMimic uses dedicated experts for each regime and a proprioceptive gate that continuously blends their actions. A hidden successor-state objective teaches human-reference-shaped recovery without exposing reference identity or phase to the deployed Actor; deployment requires no get-up reference, recovery command, trajectory retrieval, or external policy switch. On the complete retargeted LAFAN1 dance subset, StableMimic achieves the lowest errors on all four tracking metrics among five methods. Across 100 matched push-to-fall trials per method, it recovers in 100/100 and attains the lowest values on six of seven post-fall motion and load measures, supporting improved interaction safety under this protocol. Real Unitree G1 dance and standing-reference deployments qualitatively demonstrate bounded limb motion, autonomous recovery, and command resumption.

Measurement of solar $pp$ neutrino flux with the new PandaX-4T data

We report a new measurement of the solar proton--proton ($pp$) neutrino flux via neutrino--electron elastic scattering using the PandaX-4T Run 2 data set collected between 2024 and 2026, corresponding to an exposure of 1.9 tonne$\cdot$yr. Before Run 2 data taking, the detector underwent a series of upgrades to improve its response and background conditions. Time variations of radioactive noble-gas impurities are constrained using the physics data themselves, complemented by measurements from the gas-assay system. The analysis introduced improvements in the data processing chain, detector response characterization, and background models. A blind spectral analysis was then performed on the electronic-recoil data across a wide energy range from 20 to 1000 keV. In combination with the Run 0 data published earlier, the fitted $pp$ flux is $(8.5 \pm 3.5)\times 10^{10}$ $\mathrm{cm^{-2}s^{-1}}$, consistent with the prediction of the Standard Solar Model. With a statistical significance of $2.2\sigma$ above background, this marks the first positive indication of solar $pp$ neutrino--electron scattering below an electronic-recoil energy of 165 keV.

STEB: A Speech-to-Speech Translation Expressiveness Benchmark for Evaluating Beyond Translation Fidelity

Speech-to-speech translation (S2ST) should preserve not only lexical meaning, but also expressive attributes: emotion, scenario style (e.g., news reporting vs. dramatic dialogue), and nonverbal vocalizations (NVs). Moreover, collecting cross-lingual target speech that is both translation-faithful and expressively aligned with the source is difficult at scale, making reference-based evaluation impractical. We introduce STEB (Speech-to-Speech Translation Expressiveness Benchmark), a 32.6-hour Chinese--English benchmark that evaluates both standard dimensions (translation fidelity, speaker similarity, duration alignment) and expressiveness dimensions (emotion, scenario style, NV preservation). For expressiveness evaluation, STEB uses a caption-then-summarize framework that converts speech into structured expressive attributes and compares source and hypothesis attributes with an LLM judge. Human validation shows statistically significant correlations with listener judgments across all expressive dimensions. We evaluate six S2ST systems covering cascaded systems, end-to-end models, and speech large language models. Many systems, especially cascaded ones, achieve strong translation fidelity, but they still struggle with emotion preservation (best: 3.82/5) and NV preservation (best: 2.31/5). These results reveal a gap between semantic transfer and expressive transfer, identifying expressiveness preservation as an open challenge for S2ST. Performance Test and Circuit Simulation for R12699-406-M4 Photomultiplier Tube Base

The next-generation liquid xenon experiments like PandaX-xT target an energy range from sub-keV to multi-MeV to address the requirement of multiple physics searches. The Hamamatsu R12699-406-M4 photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) were developed and selected as photon sensors for PandaX-xT. Their voltage-divider base is optimized for a broad dynamic range, from single-photoelectron (SPE) sensitivity to 30~nC collected charge (matching the 2.5~MeV Q-value of $^{136}$Xe neutrinoless double beta decay~(NLDBD)). Using a dedicated test bench, we characterize the saturation and suppression responses of R12699-406-M4 PMTs with this base design. Based on measured PMT-base responses, we develop a circuit simulation model that accurately reproduces the physical mechanisms underlying these effects with key parameters tuned via experimental data. The combined simulation and bench-test approach guides base design and optimization, enabling improved detector dynamic range and supporting future saturation and suppression correction studies in data analysis.

Precise $^{136}$Xe Double Beta Decay Measurement in PandaX-4T with Implications on the Nuclear Matrix Elements and Majorons

The continuous spectrum of double beta decay ($\beta\beta$) provides a sensitive probe to test the predictions of the standard model and to search for signatures of new physics beyond it. We present a comprehensive analysis of the $^{136}$Xe $\beta\beta$ spectrum utilizing $39.1 \pm 0.7~\textrm{kg}\cdot\textrm{yr}$ of $^{136}$Xe exposure from the PandaX-4T experiment. The analysis yields the most precise measurement to date of the $^{136}$Xe two-neutrino double beta decay ($2\nu\beta\beta$) half-life, $(2.14 \pm 0.05) \times 10^{21}$ years, the uncertainty of which is reduced by a factor of 2 compared to our previous result. We measure the parameter $\xi_{31}^{2\nu}$, defined as the ratio between the subleading and leading components of the $^{136}$Xe $2\nu\beta\beta$ nuclear matrix element, to be $0.59^{+0.41}_{-0.38}$, which is consistent with theoretical predictions. We also search for Majoron-emitting modes of $^{136}$Xe $\beta\beta$, establishing the most stringent limit for the spectral index $n=7$.

GPS-Synchronized Monitoring of Core-collapse Supernova Bursts with PandaX-4T via Coherent Elastic Neutrino Nuclear Scattering

The landmark detection of neutrinos from SN1987A marked the dawn of neutrino astrophysics. The neutrino burst provided essential insights into fundamental properties of neutrinos, and served as key probes of stellar evolution and supernova dynamics. The recent advancement in coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering enables the detection of core-collapse supernova burst neutrinos using tonne-scale liquid xenon detectors originally designed for dark matter direct detection. Leveraging this capability, we developed and deployed an online supernova monitoring system for the PandaX-4T experiment. This system features a GPS module with millisecond-level timing precision, a low false-alarm rate, and high sensitivity to galactic core-collapse supernova explosion events. The methodology is robust, directly scalable, and planned for implementation in the next-generation PandaX-20T experiment.

Probing scalar-neutrino and scalar-dark-matter interactions with PandaX-4T

Scalar-mediated interactions may exist among neutrinos, dark matter particles, or between the two. Double $\beta$-decay experiments provide a powerful tool to probe such exotic interactions. Using $^{136}$Xe double $\beta$-decay data from PandaX-4T, we perform the first direct spectral search in the energy range of 20 to 2800~keV, setting the most stringent limits to date on scalar-mediated neutrino self-interactions for mediator masses below 2~MeV$/c^2$. These results place significant constraints on models invoking such interactions to alleviate the Hubble Tension. Assuming the same scalar also mediates dark matter self-interactions, constraints on the dark matter-scalar interactions can be placed in conjunction with cosmological constraints.

Tomographic beta-gamma spectroscopy of nuclear beta decay

Nuclear $\beta$ decay, a sensitive probe of nuclear structure and weak interactions, has become a precision test bed for physics beyond the Standard Model, driven by recent advances in spectrometric techniques. Here we introduce tomographic $\beta$-$\gamma$ spectroscopy (TBGS) of nuclear $\beta$ decay, a method that detects the energies of $\beta$, $\gamma$, and internal conversion electrons while simultaneously reconstructing the energy deposition vertices. Using the PandaX-4T detector operated as a TBGS, we obtain a precise and unbiased decay scheme of $^{214}$Pb, a key background isotope in searches for dark matter and Majorana neutrinos. For the first time, transitions of $^{214}$Pb to both the ground and excited states of $^{214}$Bi are measured concurrently, revealing discrepancies in branching ratios of up to 4.7$\sigma$ relative to previous evaluations. Combined with state-of-the-art theoretical spectral-shape calculations, these results establish a new benchmark for background modelling in rare-event searches and highlight the potential of TBGS as a versatile tool for fundamental physics and nuclear applications.

VoxRole: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Evaluating Speech-Based Role-Playing Agents

Recent significant advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) have greatly propelled the development of Role-Playing Conversational Agents (RPCAs). These systems aim to create immersive user experiences through consistent persona adoption. However, current RPCA research faces dual limitations. First, existing work predominantly focuses on the textual modality, entirely overlooking critical paralinguistic features including intonation, prosody, and rhythm in speech, which are essential for conveying character emotions and shaping vivid identities. Second, the speech-based role-playing domain suffers from a long-standing lack of standardized evaluation benchmarks. Most current spoken dialogue datasets target only fundamental capability assessments, featuring thinly sketched or ill-defined character profiles. Consequently, they fail to effectively quantify model performance on core competencies like long-term persona consistency. To address this critical gap, we introduce VoxRole, the first comprehensive benchmark specifically designed for the evaluation of speech-based RPCAs. The benchmark comprises 13335 multi-turn dialogues, totaling 65.6 hours of speech from 1228 unique characters across 261 movies. To construct this resource, we propose a novel two-stage automated pipeline that first aligns movie audio with scripts and subsequently employs an LLM to systematically build multi-dimensional profiles for each character. Leveraging VoxRole, we conduct a multi-dimensional evaluation of contemporary spoken dialogue models, revealing crucial insights into their respective strengths and limitations in maintaining persona consistency.

Precise Measurement of $^{216}$Po Half-life with Exact Parent-daughter Pairing in PandaX-4T

We report a precise measurement of $^{216}\rm Po$ half-life using the PandaX-4T liquid xenon time projection chamber (TPC). $^{220}\rm Rn $, emanating from a $^{228}\rm Th $ calibration source, is injected to the detector and undergoes successive $\alpha$ decays, first to $^{216}\rm Po$ and then to $^{212}\rm Pb$. PandaX-4T detector measures the 5-dimensional (5D) information of each decay, including time, energy, and 3-dimensional positions. Therefore, we can identify the $^{220}\rm Rn $ and $^{216}\rm Po$ decay events and pair them exactly to extract the lifetime of each $^{216}\rm Po$. With a large data set and high-precision $^{220}\rm $Rn-$^{216}\rm $Po pairing technique, we measure the $^{216}\rm Po$ half-life to be $143.7\pm0.5$ ms, which is the most precise result to date and agrees with previously published values. The leading precision of this measurement demonstrates the power of 5D calorimeter and the potential of exact parent-daughter pairing in the xenon TPC.

Search for Light Dark Matter with 259-day data in PandaX-4T

We present a search for light dark matter particles through their interactions with atomic electrons and nucleons, utilizing PandaX-4T data with an effective exposure of 1.04 tonne$\cdot$year for ionization-only data and 1.20 tonne$\cdot$year for paired data. Our analysis focuses on the energy range (efficiency$>$0.01) of approximately 0.33 to 3 keV for nuclear recoils, and from 0.04 to 0.39 keV for electronic recoils. We establish the most stringent constraints on spin-independent dark matter-nucleon interactions within a mass range of 2.5 to 5.0 GeV/$c^2$, spin-dependent neutron-only interactions within 2.0 to 5.3 GeV/$c^2$, and spin-dependent proton-only interactions within 2.0 to 3.8 GeV/$c^2$. Their corresponding limits at 3\,GeV/$c^2$ are $1.1 \times 10^{-43}$, $1.6 \times 10^{-38}$, and $5.6 \times 10^{-37}$\,cm$^2$, respectively. Additionally, our results improve the upper limits on the dark matter-electron scattering cross-section by a factor of 1.5 and 9.3 for heavy and light mediator scenarios respectively within 50 MeV/$c^2$ to 10 GeV/$c^2$, compared with previous best results.

A Multi-Stage Framework for Multimodal Controllable Speech Synthesis

Controllable speech synthesis aims to control the style of generated speech using reference input, which can be of various modalities. Existing face-based methods struggle with robustness and generalization due to data quality constraints, while text prompt methods offer limited diversity and fine-grained control. Although multimodal approaches aim to integrate various modalities, their reliance on fully matched training data significantly constrains their performance and applicability. This paper proposes a 3-stage multimodal controllable speech synthesis framework to address these challenges. For face encoder, we use supervised learning and knowledge distillation to tackle generalization issues. Furthermore, the text encoder is trained on both text-face and text-speech data to enhance the diversity of the generated speech. Experimental results demonstrate that this method outperforms single-modal baseline methods in both face based and text prompt based speech synthesis, highlighting its effectiveness in generating high-quality speech.

Position reconstruction and surface background model for the PandaX-4T detector

We report the position reconstruction methods and surface background model for the PandaX-4T dark matter direct search experiment. This work develops two position reconstruction algorithms: template matching (TM) method and photon acceptance function (PAF) method. Both methods determine the horizontal position of events based on the light pattern of secondary scintillation collected by the light sensors. After a comprehensive evaluation of resolution, uniformity, and robustness, the PAF method was selected for position reconstruction, while the TM method was employed for verification. The PAF method achieves a bulk event resolution of 1.0 mm and a surface event resolution of 4.4 mm for a typical $S2$ signal with a bottom charge of 1500 PE (about 14 keV). The uniformity is around 20\%. Robustness studies reveal average deviations of 5.1 mm and 8.8 mm for the commissioning run (Run0) and the first science run (Run1), respectively, due to the deactivation of certain PMTs. A data-driven surface background model is developed based on the PAF method. The surface background is estimated to be $0.09 \pm 0.06$ events for Run0 (0.54 tonne$\cdot$year) and $0.17 \pm 0.11$ events for Run1 (1.00 tonne$\cdot$year).

A Novel Low-Background Photomultiplier Tube Developed for Xenon Based Detectors

Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) are essential in xenon detectors like PandaX, LZ, and XENON experiments for dark matter searches and neutrino properties measurement. To minimize PMT-induced backgrounds, stringent requirements on PMT radioactivity are crucial. A novel 2-inch low-background R12699 PMT has been developed through a collaboration between the PandaX team and Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. corporation. Radioactivity measurements conducted with a high-purity germanium detector show levels of approximately 0.08 mBq/PMT for $\rm^{60}Co$ and 0.06~mBq/PMT for the $\rm^{238}U$ late chain, achieving a 15-fold reduction compared to R11410 PMT used in PandaX-4T. The radon emanation rate is below 3.2 $\rm μ$Bq/PMT (@90\% confidence level), while the surface $\rm^{210}Po$ activity is less than 18.4 $μ$Bq/cm$^2$. The electrical performance of these PMTs at cryogenic temperature was evaluated. With an optimized readout base, the gain was enhanced by 30\%, achieving an average gain of $4.23 \times 10^6$ at -1000~V and -100~$^{\circ}$C. The dark count rate averaged 2.5~Hz per channel. Compactness, low radioactivity, and robust electrical performance in the cryogenic temperature make the R12699 PMT ideal for next-generation liquid xenon detectors and other rare event searches.
