Endomorphisms of O_n which preserve the canonical UHF-subalgebra

Unital endomorphisms of the Cuntz algebra O_n which preserve the canonical UHF-subalgebra F_n of O_n are investigated. We give examples of such endomorphisms for which the associated unitary element in O_n does not belong to F_n. One such example, in the case where n=2, arises from a construction of a unital endomorphism on O_2 which preserves the canonical UHF-subalgebra and where the relative commutant of the image in O_2 contains a copy of O_2.

More localized automorphisms of the Cuntz algebras

We completely determine the localized automorphisms of the Cuntz algebras $O_n$ corresponding to permutation matrices in $M_n \otimes M_n$ for $n=3$ and $n=4$. This result is obtained through a combination of general combinatorial techniques and large scale computer calculations. Our analysis proceeds according to the general scheme proposed in a previous paper, where we analyzed in detail the case of $O_2$ using labeled rooted trees. We also discuss those proper endomorphisms of these Cuntz algebras which restrict to automorphisms of their respective diagonals. In the case of $O_3$ we compute the number of automorphisms of the diagonal induced by permutation matrices in $M_3 \otimes M_3 \otimes M_3$.

Noncommutative Balls and Mirror Quantum Spheres

Noncommutative analogues of n-dimensional balls are defined by repeated application of the quantum double suspension to the classical low-dimensional spaces. In the `even-dimensional' case they correspond to the Twisted Canonical Commutation Relations of Pusz and Woronowicz. Then quantum spheres are constructed as double manifolds of noncommutative balls. Both C*-algebras and polynomial algebras of the objects in question are defined and analyzed, and their relations with previously known examples are presented. Our construction generalizes that of Hajac, Matthes and Szymanski for `dimension 2', and leads to a new class of quantum spheres (already on the C*-algebra level) in all `even-dimensions'.

Noncommutative Geometry Approach to Principal and Associated Bundles

We recast basic topological concepts underlying differential geometry using the language and tools of noncommutative geometry. This way we characterize principal (free and proper) actions by a density condition in (multiplier) C*-algebras. We introduce the concept of piecewise triviality to adapt the standard notion of local triviality to fibre products of C*-algebras. In the context of principal actions, we study in detail an example of a non-proper free action with continuous translation map, and examples of compact principal bundles which are piecewise trivial but not locally trivial, and neither piecewise trivial nor locally trivial, respectively. We show that the module of continuous sections of a vector bundle associated to a compact principal bundle is a cotensor product of the algebra of functions defined on the total space (that are continuous along the base and polynomial along the fibres) with the vector space of the representation. On the algebraic side, we review the formalism of connections for the universal differential algebras. In the differential geometry framework, we consider smooth connections on principal bundles as equivariant splittings of the cotangent bundle, as 1-form-valued derivations of the algebra of smooth functions on the structure group, and as axiomatically given covariant differentiations of functions defined on the total space. Finally, we use the Dirac monopole connection to compute the pairing of the line bundles associated to the Hopf fibration with the cyclic cocycle of integration over S^2.

Noncommutative index theory for mirror quantum spheres

We introduce and analyse a new type of quantum 2-spheres. Then we apply index theory for noncommutative line bundles over these spheres to conclude that quantum lens spaces are non-crossed-product examples of principal extensions of C*-algebras.

The K-Theory of Heegaard-Type Quantum 3-Spheres

We use a Heegaard splitting of the topological 3-sphere as a guiding principle to construct a family of its noncommutative deformations. The main technical point is an identification of the universal C*-algebras defining our quantum 3-spheres with an appropriate fiber product of crossed-product C*-algebras. Then we employ this result to show that the K-groups of our family of noncommutative 3-spheres coincide with their classical counterparts.

Chern numbers for two families of noncommutative Hopf fibrations

We consider noncommutative line bundles associated with the Hopf fibrations of SUq(2) over all Podles spheres and with a locally trivial Hopf fibration of S^3_{pq}. These bundles are given as finitely generated projective modules associated via 1-dimensional representations of U(1) with Galois-type extensions encoding the principal fibrations of SUq(2) and S^3_{pq}. We show that the Chern numbers of these modules coincide with the winding numbers of representations defining them.

Stable rank of graph algebras. Type I graph algebras and their limits

For an arbitrary countable directed graph E we show that the only possible values of the stable rank of the associated Cuntz-Krieger algebra C*(E) are 1, 2 or \infty. Explicit criteria for each of these three cases are given. We characterize graph algebras of type I, and graph algebras which are inductive limits of C*-algebras of type I. We also show that a gauge-invariant ideal of a graph algebra is itself isomorphic to a graph algebra.

Quantum lens spaces and principal actions on graph C*-algebras

We study certain principal actions on noncommutative C*-algebras. Our main examples are the Z_p- and T-actions on the odd-dimensional quantum spheres, yielding as fixed-point algebras quantum lens spaces and quantum complex projective spaces, respectively. The key tool in our analysis is the relation of the ambient C*-algebras with the Cuntz-Krieger algebras of directed graphs. A general result about the principality of the gauge action on graph algebras is given.

The ideal structure of the C*-algebras of infinite graphs

We classify the gauge-invariant ideals in the C*-algebras of infinite directed graphs, and describe the quotients as graph algebras. We then use these results to identify the gauge-invariant primitive ideals in terms of the structural properties of the graph, and describe the K-theory of the C*-algebras of arbitrary infinite graphs.

Quantum Real Projective Space, Disc and Sphere

We define the $C^*$-algebra of quantum real projective space $\R P_q^2$, classify its irreducible representations and compute its $K$-theory. We also show that the $q$-disc of Klimek-Lesniewski can be obtained as a non-Galois $\Z_2$-quotient of the equator Podleś quantum sphere. On the way, we provide the Cartesian coordinates for all Podleś quantum spheres and determine an explicit form of isomorphisms between the $C^*$-algebras of the equilateral spheres and the $C^*$-algebra of the equator one.
