Steady-state localized-delocalized phase transition of an incoherent-pumped dissipative Bose-Hubbard model

We investigate steady-state properties of a two-dimensional incoherent-pumped dissipative Bose-Hubbard model, which describes a photon square lattice. This incoherent pumping exhibits an important environment-induced higher-order fluctuation effect, which induces a strong competition between the driven-dissipative channel, the photon-photon interaction, and the photon hopping in multi-photon processes. This new competition gives rise to a spontaneous breaking of the U(1) symmetry of system. As a result, we predict a many-body steady-state localized-delocalized phase transition and an anti-blockade effect, in which the increasing of the repulsive photon-photon interaction promotes the emergence of phase transition. These unconventional many-body steady-state phenomena can be understood by analyzing the single-cavity properties. Our results pave a new way to control many-body dynamics of driven-dissipative systems.

Dirac monopoles with polar-core vortex induced by spin-orbit coupling in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

We report Dirac monopoles with polar-core vortex induced by spin-orbit coupling in ferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensates, which are attached to two nodal vortex lines along the vertical axis. These monopoles are more stable in the time scale of experiment and can be detected through directly imaging vortex lines. When the strength of spin-orbit coupling increases, Dirac monopoles with vortex can be transformed into those with square lattice. In the presence of spin-orbit coupling, increasing the strength of interaction can induce a cyclic phase transition from Dirac monopoles with polar-core vortex to those with Mermin-Ho vortex. The spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates not only provide a new unique platform for investigating exotic monopoles and relevant phase transitions, but also can preserve stable monopoles after a quadrupole field is turned off.

Localized spatially nonlinear matter waves in atomic-molecular Bose-Einstein condensates with space-modulated nonlinearity

The intrinsic nonlinearity is the most remarkable characteristic of the Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) systems. Many studies have been done on atomic BECs with time- and space- modulated nonlinearities, while there is few work considering the atomic-molecular BECs with space-modulated nonlinearities. Here, we obtain two kinds of Jacobi elliptic solutions and a family of rational solutions of the atomic-molecular BECs with trapping potential and space-modulated nonlinearity and consider the effect of three-body interaction on the localized matter wave solutions. The topological properties of the localized nonlinear matter wave for no coupling are analysed: the parity of nonlinear matter wave functions depends only on the principal quantum number $n$, and the numbers of the density packets for each quantum state depend on both the principal quantum number $n$ and the secondary quantum number $l$. When the coupling is not zero, the localized nonlinear matter waves given by the rational function, their topological properties are independent of the principal quantum number $n$, only depend on the secondary quantum number $l$. The Raman detuning and the chemical potential can change the number and the shape of the density packets. The stability of the Jacobi elliptic solutions depends on the principal quantum number $n$, while the stability of the rational solutions depends on the chemical potential and Raman detuning.

Interplay of localisation and competing interaction channels: cascade of quantum phase transitions

We investigate the interplay of localization, interactions and (pseudo)spin degrees of freedom on quantum states of particles on the lattice. Our results show that breaking the paradigm density-density interaction $U_0\gg$ (pseudo)spin-(pseudo)spin interaction $U_s$ will drive the sequence of quantum phase transitions (QPT), where (pseudo)spin state and particle ordering, in case of several particle species, on the lattice are strongly changed. QPT driven by competing interactions, $|U_s|\sim U_0$, manifest itself in singularities of effective exchange integrals. $|U_s|\sim U_0$ implies a frustration when the interactions standing alone drive the system to different phases. Even at $U_s=0$, there is typically a QPT induced by $U_s$ sign change. Vector cold atoms, Fermions or Bosons, on optical lattices are the state-of-the-art realization of our system where $U_s$ is tunable \textit{in situ}.

Classification of magnons in Rotated Ferromagnetic Heisenberg model and their competing responses in transverse fields

Competing orders is a general concept to describe various quantum phases and transitions in various materials. One efficient way to investigate competing orders is to first classify different class of excitations in a given quantum phase, then study their competing responses under various external probes. This strategy may not only lead to deep understanding of the quantum phase itself, but also its deep connections to various other quantum phases nearby. We implement this approach by studying the Rotated Ferromagnetic Heisenberg model (RFHM) in two different transverse fields $h_x$ and $h_z$ which can be intuitively visualized as studying spin-orbit couplings (SOC) effects in 2d Ising or anisotropic XY model in a transverse field. At a special SOC class, it was known that the RFHM at a zero field owns an exact ground state called Y-x state. It supports non only the commensurate C-C$_0$ and C-C$_π $ magnons, but also the in-commensurate C-IC magnons. These magnons are non-relativistic, not contained in the exact ground state, so need to be thermally excited. Their dramatic response under the longitudinal $ h_y $ field was recently worked out by the authors. Here we find they respond very differently under the two transverse fields. Any $h_x$ ($h_z$) changes the collinear Y-x state to a canted co-planar YX-x (YZ-x) state which suffers quantum fluctuations. The C-C$_0$, C-C$_π $ and C-IC magnons sneak into the quantum ground state, become relativistic and play leading roles even at $ T=0 $. We map out the boundaries among the C-C$_0$, C-C$_π $ and C-IC magnons, especially the detailed evolution of the C-IC magnons inside the canted phases. As $h_x$ ($h_z$) increases further, the C-C$_0$ magnons always win the competition and emerge as the seeds to drive a transition from the YX-x (YZ-x) to the X-FM ( Z-FM ) which is shown to be in the 3d Ising universality class.

Topological Superfluidity of Spin-Orbit Coupled Bilayer Fermi Gases

Topological superfluid, new quantum matter that possesses gapless exotic excitations known as Majorana fermions, has attracted extensive attention recently. These excitations, which can encode topological qubits, could be crucial ingredients for fault-tolerant quantum computation. However, creating and manipulating multiple Majorana fermions remain an ongoing challenge. Loading a topologically protected system in multi-layer structures would be a natural and simple way to achieve this goal. Here we investigate the system of bilayer Fermi gases with spin-orbit coupling and show that the topological condition is significantly influenced by the inter-layer tunneling, yielding two novel topological phases, which support more Majorana Fermions. We demonstrate the existence of such novel topological phases and associated multiple Majorana fermions using bilayer Fermi gases trapped inside a harmonic potential. This research pave a new way for generating multiple Majorana fermions and would be a significant step towards topological quantum computation.

Quantum Hall Effects in a Non-Abelian Honeycomb Lattice

We study the tunable quantum Hall effects in a non-Abelian honeycomb optical lattice which is a many-Dirac-points system. We find that the quantum Hall effects present different features as change as relative strengths of several perturbations. Namely, a gauge-field-dressed next-nearest-neighbor hopping can induce the quantum spin Hall effect and a Zeeman field can induce a so-called quantum anomalous valley Hall effect which includes two copies of quantum Hall states with opposite Chern numbers and counter-propagating edge states. Our study extends the borders of the field of quantum Hall effects in honeycomb optical lattice when the internal valley degrees of freedom enlarge.

Tuning near-gap electronic structure, interface charge transfer and visible light response of hybrid doped graphene and Ag3PO4 composite: Dopant effects

The enhanced photocatalytic performance of doped graphene(GR)/semiconductor nanocomposites have recently been widely observed, but an understanding of the underlying mechanisms behind it is still out of reach. As a model system to study the effect of dopants, we investigate the electronic structures and optical properites of doped GR/Ag3PO4 nanocomposites using the first-principles calculations, demonstrating that the band gap, near-gap electronic structure and interface charge transfer of the doped GR/Ag3PO4(100) composite can be tuned by the dopants. Interestingly, the doping atom and C atoms bonded to dopant become active sites for photocatalysis because they are positively or negatively charged due to the charge redistribution caused by interaction. The dopants can enhance the visible light absorption and photoinduced electrons transfer. We propose that the N atom may be most appropriate doping for the GR/Ag3PO4 photocatalyst. This work can rationalize the available experimental results about N-doped GR-semiconductor composites, and enriches our understanding on the effect of dopants in the doped GR-based composites for developing high-performance photocatalysts.

Finite field calculations of static polarizabilities and hyperpolarizabilities of In$^{+}$ and Sr

The finite field calculations are performed for two heavy frequency-standard candidates In$^+$ and Sr. The progressive hierarchy of electron correlations is implemented by the relativistic coupled-cluster and configuration interaction methods combined with basis set of increasing size. The dipole polarizabilities, dipole hyperpolarizabilities, quadrupole moments, and quadrupole polarizabilities are recommended for the ground state 5s$^2$ $^1S_0$ and low-lying states 5s5p $^3P^{\rm o}_{0,1,2}$ of In$^+$ and Sr. Comparative study of the fully and scalar relativistic electron correlation calculations reveals the effect of the spin-orbit interaction on the dipole polarizabilities of In$^{+}$ and Sr. Finally, the blackbody-radiation shifts due to the dipole polarizability, dipole hyperpolarizability, and quadrupole polarizability are evaluated for the clock transition 5s$^2$ $^1S_0$ - 5s5p $^3P^{\rm o}_0$ of In$^+$ and Sr.

Quantum magnetism of spinor bosons in optical lattices with synthetic non-Abelian gauge fields

We study quantum magnetism of interacting spinor bosons at integer fillings hopping in a square lattice in the presence of non-Abelian gauge fields. In the strong coupling limit, it leads to the Rotated ferromagnetic Heisenberg model (RFHM) which is a new class of quantum spin model. We introduce Wilson loops to characterize frustrations and gauge equivalent classes. For a special equivalent class, we identify a new spin-orbital entangled commensurate ground state. It supports not only commensurate magnons, but also a new gapped elementary excitation: in-commensurate magnons with two gap minima continuously tuned by the SOC strength. At low temperatures, these magnons lead to dramatic effects in many physical quantities such as density of states, specific heat, magnetization, uniform susceptibility, staggered susceptibility and various spin correlation functions. The commensurate magnons lead to a pinned central peak in the angle resolved light or atom Bragg spectroscopy. However, the in-commensurate magnons split it into two located at their two gap minima. At high temperatures, the transverse spin structure factors depend on the SOC strength explicitly. The whole set of Wilson loops can be mapped out by measuring the specific heat at the corresponding orders in the high temperature expansion. We argue that one gauge may be realized in current experiments and other gauges may also be realized in near future experiments. The results achieved along the exact solvable line sets up the stage to investigate dramatic effects when tuning away from it by various means. We sketch the crucial roles to be played by these magnons at other equivalent classes, with spin anisotropic interactions and in the presence of finite magnetic fields. Various experimental detections of these new phenomena are discussed. Rotated Anti-ferromagnetic Heisenberg model are also briefly mentioned.

Itinerant chiral ferromagnetism in a trapped Rashba spin-orbit coupled Fermi gas

How ferromagnetic phases emerge in itinerant systems is an outstanding problem in quantum magnetism. Here we consider a repulsive two-component Fermi gas confined in a two dimensional isotropic harmonic potential and subject to a large Rashba spin-orbit (SO) coupling, whose single-particle dispersion can be tailored by adjusting the SO coupling strength. We show that the interplay among SO coupling, correlation effects and mean-field repulsion leads to a competition between ferromagnetic and non-magnetic phases. At intermediate interaction strengths, ferromagnetic phase emerges which can be well described by the mean-field Hartree-Fock theory; whereas at strong interaction strengths, a strongly correlated non-magnetic phase is favored due to the beyond-mean-field quantum correlation effects. Furthermore, the ferromagnetic phase of this system possesses a chiral current density induced by the Rashba spin-orbit coupling, whose experimental signature is investigated.

Engineering Bright Solitons to Enhance the Stability of Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensates

We consider a system of coupled Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equations describing a binary quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with intrinsic time-dependent attractive interactions, placed in a time-dependent expulsive parabolic potential, in a special case when the system is integrable (a deformed Manakov's system). Since the nonlinearity in the integrable system which represents binary attractive interactions exponentially decays with time, solitons are also subject to decay. Nevertheless, it is shown that the robustness of bright solitons can be enhanced in this system, making their respective lifetime longer, by matching the time dependence of the interaction strength (adjusted with the help of the Feshbach-resonance management) to the time modulation of the strength of the parabolic potential. The analytical results, and their stability, are corroborated by numerical simulations. In particular, we demonstrate that the addition of random noise does not impact the stability of the solitons.

Itinerant magnetism in Weyl spin-orbit coupled Fermi gas

Magnetic ordering of itinerant fermionic systems is at the forefront of condensed matter physics dating back to Stoner's instability. Spin-orbit coupling (SOC) which couples two essential ingredients of an itinerant fermionic system, namely spin and orbital motion, opens up new horizons to this long-standing problem. Here we report that the itinerant ferromagnetism is absent in 3D Fermi gas with a Weyl SOC and various itinerant spin density waves emerge instead, which is deeply rooted in the unique symmetry and spin-momentum locking effect in spin-orbit coupled systems. What is more appealing is that, the strong SOC provides a new and efficient mechanism to realize itinerant spin density waves at extremely weak repulsion---a significant benefit for present ultra-cold atom experiment. These novel phenomena can be probed by Bragg spectroscopy, time of flight imaging and {\sl In-Situ } measurements in ultra-cold atom experiment.

Controlled Electromagnetically Induced Transparency and Fano Resonances in Hybrid BEC-Optomechanics

We investigate the controllability of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and Fano resonances in hybrid optomechanical system which is composed of cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) trapped inside high-finesse Fabry-Pérot cavity driven by a single mode optical field along the cavity axis and a transverse pump field. Here, transverse optical field is used to control the phenomenon of EIT in the output probe laser field. The output probe laser field can efficiently be amplified or attenuated depending on the strength of transverse optical field. Furthermore, we demonstrate the existence of Fano resonances in the output field spectra and discuss the controlled behavior of Fano resonances using transverse optical field. To observe this phenomena in laboratory, we suggest a certain set of experimental parameters.

Tunable Bistability in Hybrid Bose-Einstein Condensate Optomechanics

Cavity-optomechanics, a rapidly developing area of research, has made a remarkable progress. A stunning manifestation of optomechanical phenomena is in exploiting the mechanical effects of light to couple the optical degree of freedom with mechanical degree of freedom. In this report, we investigate the controlled bistable dynamics of such hybrid optomechanical system composed of cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) trapped inside high-finesse optical cavity with one moving-end mirror and is driven by a single mode optical field. The numerical results provide evidence for controlled optical bistability in optomechanics using transverse optical field which directly interacts with atoms causing the coupling of transverse field with momentum side modes, exited by intra-cavity field. This technique of transverse field coupling is also used to control bistable dynamics of both moving-end mirror and BEC. The report provides an understanding of temporal dynamics of moving-end mirror and BEC with respect to transverse field. Moreover, dependence of effective potential of the system on transverse field has also been discussed. To observe this phenomena in laboratory, we have suggested a certain set of experimental parameters. These findings provide a platform to investigate the tunable behavior of novel phenomenon like electromagnetically induced transparency and entanglement in hybrid systems.

Fermionic non-Abelian fractional Chern insulators from dipolar interactions

We study fermions on a triangular lattice model that exhibits topological flatbands characterized by nonzero Chern numbers. Our scheme stems from the well-known Hofstadter model but the next-nearest-neighbor hopping is introduced, which is crucial for tuning the lowest band to be nearly flat. Differing from previous proposals with the necessity of multiparticle interactions, we consider the more realistic long-range dipolar interaction combined with two-body short-range attractions between fermions. We show the realization of the non-Abelian $ν=1/2$ Moore-Read fractional Chern insulators, and strong evidence for the existence of the more exotic $ν=3/5$ Read-Rezayi fractional Chern insulators. Our results provide insights for the experimental realization of these exotic states by realistic two-body interactions and thus facilitates the implementation of the universal topological quantum computation.

Carbon-dioxide-like Skyrmion controlled by spin-orbit coupling in atomic-molecular Bose-Einstein condensates

Atomic-molecular Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) offer brand new opportunities to revolutionize quantum gases and probe the variation of fundamental constants with unprecedented sensitivity. The recent realization of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in BECs provides a new platform for exploring completely new phenomena unrealizable elsewhere. However, there is no study of SOC atomic-molecular BECs so far. Here, we find a novel way of creating a Rashba-Dresselhaus SOC in atomic-molecular BECs by combining the spin dependent photoassociation and Raman coupling, which can control the formation and distribution of a new type of topological excitation -- carbon-dioxide-like Skyrmion. This Skyrmion is formed by two half-Skyrmions of molecular BECs coupling with one Skyrmion of atomic BECs, where the two half-Skyrmions locates at both sides of one Skyrmion, which can be detected by measuring the vortices structures using the time-of-flight absorption imaging technique in real experiments.

Non-Markovian full counting statistics in quantum dot molecules

Full counting statistics of electron transport is a powerful diagnostic tool for probing the nature of quantum transport beyond what is obtainable from the average current or conductance measurement alone. In particular, the non-Markovian dynamics of quantum dot molecule plays an important role in the nonequilibrium electron tunneling processes. It is thus necessary to understand the non-Markovian full counting statistics in a quantum dot molecule. Here we study the non-Markovian full counting statistics in two typical quantum dot molecules, namely, serially coupled and side-coupled double quantum dots with high quantum coherence in a certain parameter regime. We demonstrate that the non-Markovian effect manifests itself through the quantum coherence of the quantum dot molecule system, and has a significant impact on the full counting statistics in the high quantum-coherent quantum dot molecule system, which depends on the coupling of the quantum dot molecule system with the source and drain electrodes. The results indicated that the influence of the non-Markovian effect on the full counting statistics of electron transport, which should be considered in a high quantum-coherent quantum dot molecule system, can provide a better understanding of electron transport through quantum dot molecules.
