Cross-speaker Emotion Transfer Based on Speaker Condition Layer Normalization and Semi-Supervised Training in Text-To-Speech

In expressive speech synthesis, there are high requirements for emotion interpretation. However, it is time-consuming to acquire emotional audio corpus for arbitrary speakers due to their deduction ability. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a cross-speaker emotion transfer method that can realize the transfer of emotions from source speaker to target speaker. A set of emotion tokens is firstly defined to represent various categories of emotions. They are trained to be highly correlated with corresponding emotions for controllable synthesis by cross-entropy loss and semi-supervised training strategy. Meanwhile, to eliminate the down-gradation to the timbre similarity from cross-speaker emotion transfer, speaker condition layer normalization is implemented to model speaker characteristics. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the multi-reference based baseline in terms of timbre similarity, stability and emotion perceive evaluations.

Towards High-fidelity Singing Voice Conversion with Acoustic Reference and Contrastive Predictive Coding

Recently, phonetic posteriorgrams (PPGs) based methods have been quite popular in non-parallel singing voice conversion systems. However, due to the lack of acoustic information in PPGs, style and naturalness of the converted singing voices are still limited. To solve these problems, in this paper, we utilize an acoustic reference encoder to implicitly model singing characteristics. We experiment with different auxiliary features, including mel spectrograms, HuBERT, and the middle hidden feature (PPG-Mid) of pretrained automatic speech recognition (ASR) model, as the input of the reference encoder, and finally find the HuBERT feature is the best choice. In addition, we use contrastive predictive coding (CPC) module to further smooth the voices by predicting future observations in latent space. Experiments show that, compared with the baseline models, our proposed model can significantly improve the naturalness of converted singing voices and the similarity with the target singer. Moreover, our proposed model can also make the speakers with just speech data sing.

Cloud-Assisted Nonlinear Model Predictive Control for Finite-Duration Tasks

Cloud computing creates new possibilities for control applications by offering powerful computation and storage capabilities. In this paper, we propose a novel cloud-assisted model predictive control (MPC) framework in which we systematically fuse a cloud MPC that uses a high-fidelity nonlinear model but is subject to communication delays with a local MPC that exploits simplified dynamics (due to limited computation) but has timely feedback. Unlike traditional cloud-based control that treats the cloud as powerful, remote, and sole controller in a networked-system control setting, the proposed framework aims at seamlessly integrating the two controllers for enhanced performance. In particular, we formalize the fusion problem for finite-duration tasks by explicitly considering model mismatches and errors due to request-response communication delays. We analyze stability-like properties of the proposed cloud-assisted MPC framework and establish approaches to robustly handling constraints within this framework in spite of plant-model mismatch and disturbances. A fusion scheme is then developed to enhance control performance while satisfying stability-like conditions, the efficacy of which is demonstrated with multiple simulation examples, including an automotive control example to show its industrial application potentials.

End-to-End Learning for Simultaneously Generating Decision Map and Multi-Focus Image Fusion Result

The general aim of multi-focus image fusion is to gather focused regions of different images to generate a unique all-in-focus fused image. Deep learning based methods become the mainstream of image fusion by virtue of its powerful feature representation ability. However, most of the existing deep learning structures failed to balance fusion quality and end-to-end implementation convenience. End-to-end decoder design often leads to unrealistic result because of its non-linear mapping mechanism. On the other hand, generating an intermediate decision map achieves better quality for the fused image, but relies on the rectification with empirical post-processing parameter choices. In this work, to handle the requirements of both output image quality and comprehensive simplicity of structure implementation, we propose a cascade network to simultaneously generate decision map and fused result with an end-to-end training procedure. It avoids the dependence on empirical post-processing methods in the inference stage. To improve the fusion quality, we introduce a gradient aware loss function to preserve gradient information in output fused image. In addition, we design a decision calibration strategy to decrease the time consumption in the application of multiple images fusion. Extensive experiments are conducted to compare with 19 different state-of-the-art multi-focus image fusion structures with 6 assessment metrics. The results prove that our designed structure can generally ameliorate the output fused image quality, while implementation efficiency increases over 30\% for multiple images fusion.

Optimal Synthesis of Opacity-Enforcing Supervisors for Qualitative and Quantitative Specifications

In this paper, we investigate both qualitative and quantitative synthesis of optimal privacy-enforcing supervisors for partially-observed discrete-event systems. We consider a dynamic system whose information-flow is partially available to an intruder, which is modeled as a passive observer. We assume that the system has a "secret" that does not want to be revealed to the intruder. Our goal is to synthesize a supervisor that controls the system in a least-restrictive manner such that the closed-loop system meets the privacy requirement. For the qualitative case, we adopt the notion of infinite-step opacity as the privacy specification by requiring that the intruder can never determine for sure that the system is/was at a secret state for any specific instant. If the qualitative synthesis problem is not solvable or the synthesized solution is too restrictive, then we further investigate the quantitative synthesis problem so that the secret is revealed (if unavoidable) as late as possible. Effective algorithms are provided to solve both the qualitative and quantitative synthesis problems. Specifically, by building suitable information structures that involve information delays, we show that the optimal qualitative synthesis problem can be solved as a safety-game. The optimal quantitative synthesis problem can also be solved as an optimal total-cost control problem over an augmented information structure. Our work provides a complete solution to the standard infinite-step opacity control problem, which has not been solved without assumption on the relationship between controllable events and observable events. Furthermore, we generalize the opacity enforcement problem to the numerical setting by introducing the secret-revelation-time as a new quantitative measure.

ByteSing: A Chinese Singing Voice Synthesis System Using Duration Allocated Encoder-Decoder Acoustic Models and WaveRNN Vocoders

This paper presents ByteSing, a Chinese singing voice synthesis (SVS) system based on duration allocated Tacotron-like acoustic models and WaveRNN neural vocoders. Different from the conventional SVS models, the proposed ByteSing employs Tacotron-like encoder-decoder structures as the acoustic models, in which the CBHG models and recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are explored as encoders and decoders respectively. Meanwhile an auxiliary phoneme duration prediction model is utilized to expand the input sequence, which can enhance the model controllable capacity, model stability and tempo prediction accuracy. WaveRNN neural vocoders are also adopted as neural vocoders to further improve the voice quality of synthesized songs. Both objective and subjective experimental results prove that the SVS method proposed in this paper can produce quite natural, expressive and high-fidelity songs by improving the pitch and spectrogram prediction accuracy and the models using attention mechanism can achieve best performance.

PPG-based singing voice conversion with adversarial representation learning

Singing voice conversion (SVC) aims to convert the voice of one singer to that of other singers while keeping the singing content and melody. On top of recent voice conversion works, we propose a novel model to steadily convert songs while keeping their naturalness and intonation. We build an end-to-end architecture, taking phonetic posteriorgrams (PPGs) as inputs and generating mel spectrograms. Specifically, we implement two separate encoders: one encodes PPGs as content, and the other compresses mel spectrograms to supply acoustic and musical information. To improve the performance on timbre and melody, an adversarial singer confusion module and a mel-regressive representation learning module are designed for the model. Objective and subjective experiments are conducted on our private Chinese singing corpus. Comparing with the baselines, our methods can significantly improve the conversion performance in terms of naturalness, melody, and voice similarity. Moreover, our PPG-based method is proved to be robust for noisy sources.

Secure Your Intention: On Notions of Pre-Opacity in Discrete-Event Systems

This paper investigates an important informationflow security property called opacity in partially-observed discrete-event systems. We consider the presence of a passive intruder (eavesdropper) that knows the dynamic model of the system and can use the generated information-flow to infer some "secret" of the system. A system is said to be opaque if it always holds the plausible deniability for its secret. Existing notions of opacity only consider secret either as currently visiting some secret states or as having visited some secret states in the past. In this paper, we investigate information-flow security from a new angle by considering the secret of the system as the intention to execute some particular behavior of importance in the future. To this end, we propose a new class of opacity called pre-opacity that characterizes whether or not the intruder can predict the visit of secret states a certain number of steps ahead before the system actually does so. Depending the prediction task of the intruder, we propose two specific kinds of pre-opacity called K-step instant pre-opacity and K-step trajectory pre-opacity to specify this concept. For each notion of pre-opacity, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition as well as an effective verification algorithm. The complexity for the verification of pre-opacity is exponential in the size of the system as we show that pre-opacity is inherently PSPACE-hard. Finally, we generalize our setting to the case where the secret intention of the system is modeled as executing a particular sequence of events rather than visiting a secret state.

Secure-by-Construction Optimal Path Planning for Linear Temporal Logic Tasks

In this paper, we investigate the problem of planning an optimal infinite path for a single robot to achieve a linear temporal logic (LTL) task with security guarantee. We assume that the external behavior of the robot, specified by an output function, can be accessed by a passive intruder (eavesdropper). The security constraint requires that the intruder should never infer that the robot was started from a secret location. We provide a sound and complete algorithmic procedure to solve this problem. Our approach is based on the construction of the twin weighted transition systems (twin-WTS) that tracks a pair of paths having the same observation. We show that the security-aware path planning problem can be effectively solved based on graph search techniques in the product of the twin-WTS and the Büchi automaton representing the LTL formula. The complexity of the proposed planning algorithm is polynomial in the size of the system model. Finally, we illustrate our algorithm by a simple robot planning example.

Xiaomingbot: A Multilingual Robot News Reporter

This paper proposes the building of Xiaomingbot, an intelligent, multilingual and multimodal software robot equipped with four integral capabilities: news generation, news translation, news reading and avatar animation. Its system summarizes Chinese news that it automatically generates from data tables. Next, it translates the summary or the full article into multiple languages, and reads the multilingual rendition through synthesized speech. Notably, Xiaomingbot utilizes a voice cloning technology to synthesize the speech trained from a real person's voice data in one input language. The proposed system enjoys several merits: it has an animated avatar, and is able to generate and read multilingual news. Since it was put into practice, Xiaomingbot has written over 600,000 articles, and gained over 150,000 followers on social media platforms.

Improving Accent Conversion with Reference Encoder and End-To-End Text-To-Speech

Accent conversion (AC) transforms a non-native speaker's accent into a native accent while maintaining the speaker's voice timbre. In this paper, we propose approaches to improving accent conversion applicability, as well as quality. First of all, we assume no reference speech is available at the conversion stage, and hence we employ an end-to-end text-to-speech system that is trained on native speech to generate native reference speech. To improve the quality and accent of the converted speech, we introduce reference encoders which make us capable of utilizing multi-source information. This is motivated by acoustic features extracted from native reference and linguistic information, which are complementary to conventional phonetic posteriorgrams (PPGs), so they can be concatenated as features to improve a baseline system based only on PPGs. Moreover, we optimize model architecture using GMM-based attention instead of windowed attention to elevate synthesized performance. Experimental results indicate when the proposed techniques are applied the integrated system significantly raises the scores of acoustic quality (30$\%$ relative increase in mean opinion score) and native accent (68$\%$ relative preference) while retaining the voice identity of the non-native speaker.

Modeling and Analysis of Networked Discrete Event Systems with Multiple Control Channels

In this paper, we propose a novel framework for modeling and analysis of networked discrete-event systems (DES). We assume that the plant is controlled by a feedback supervisor whose control decisions are subject to communication delays and losses. Furthermore, we consider a general setting where the supervisor sends control decisions to different actuators via different communication channels whose dynamics are independent. We provide a system theoretic approach by identifying the state-space of overall networked system and investigating the dynamic of the entire state-space. Our approach precisely specifies the roles of the supervisor, the communication channels and the actuators. Also, we compare the proposed networked DES model with the existing one and show that the proposed networked model captures physical situations of networked systems more precisely.

A hybrid text normalization system using multi-head self-attention for mandarin

In this paper, we propose a hybrid text normalization system using multi-head self-attention. The system combines the advantages of a rule-based model and a neural model for text preprocessing tasks. Previous studies in Mandarin text normalization usually use a set of hand-written rules, which are hard to improve on general cases. The idea of our proposed system is motivated by the neural models from recent studies and has a better performance on our internal news corpus. This paper also includes different attempts to deal with imbalanced pattern distribution of the dataset. Overall, the performance of the system is improved by over 1.5% on sentence-level and it has a potential to improve further.

A unified sequence-to-sequence front-end model for Mandarin text-to-speech synthesis

In Mandarin text-to-speech (TTS) system, the front-end text processing module significantly influences the intelligibility and naturalness of synthesized speech. Building a typical pipeline-based front-end which consists of multiple individual components requires extensive efforts. In this paper, we proposed a unified sequence-to-sequence front-end model for Mandarin TTS that converts raw texts to linguistic features directly. Compared to the pipeline-based front-end, our unified front-end can achieve comparable performance in polyphone disambiguation and prosody word prediction, and improve intonation phrase prediction by 0.0738 in F1 score. We also implemented the unified front-end with Tacotron and WaveRNN to build a Mandarin TTS system. The synthesized speech by that got a comparable MOS (4.38) with the pipeline-based front-end (4.37) and close to human recordings (4.49).

A New Microscopic Traffic Model Using a Spring-Mass-Damper-Clutch System

Microscopic traffic models describe how cars interact with their neighbors in an uninterrupted traffic flow and are frequently used for reference in advanced vehicle control design. In this paper, we propose a novel mechanical system inspired microscopic traffic model using a mass-spring-damper-clutch system. This model naturally captures the ego vehicle's resistance to large relative speed and deviation from a (driver and speed dependent) desired relative distance when following the lead vehicle. Comparing to existing car following (CF) models, this model offers physically interpretable insights on the underlying CF dynamics, and is able to characterize the impact of the ego vehicle on the lead vehicle, which is neglected in existing CF models. Thanks to the nonlinear wave propagation analysis techniques for mechanical systems, the proposed model therefore has great scalability so that multiple mass-spring-damper-clutch system can be chained to study the macroscopic traffic flow. We investigate the stability of the proposed model on the system parameters and the time delay using spectral element method. We also develop a parallel recursive least square with inverse QR decomposition (PRLS-IQR) algorithm to identify the model parameters online. These real-time estimated parameters can be used to predict the driving trajectory that can be incorporated in advanced vehicle longitudinal control systems for improved safety and fuel efficiency. The PRLS-IQR is computationally efficient and numerically stable so it is suitable for online implementation. The traffic model and the parameter identification algorithm are validated on both simulations and naturalistic driving data from multiple drivers. Promising performance is demonstrated.

On Approximate Opacity of Cyber-Physical Systems

Opacity is an important information-flow security property in the analysis of cyber-physical systems. It captures the plausible deniability of the system's secret behavior in the presence of an intruder that may access the information flow. Existing works on opacity only consider non-metric systems by assuming that the intruder can always distinguish two different outputs precisely. In this paper, we extend the concept of opacity to systems whose output sets are equipped with metrics. Such systems are widely used in the modeling of many real-world systems whose measurements are physical signals. A new concept called approximate opacity is proposed in order to quantitatively evaluate the security guarantee level with respect to the measurement precision of the intruder. Then we propose a new simulation-type relation, called approximate opacity preserving simulation relation, which characterizes how close two systems are in terms of the satisfaction of approximate opacity. This allows us to verify approximate opacity for large-scale, or even infinite systems, using their abstractions. We also discuss how to construct approximate opacity preserving symbolic models for a class of discrete-time control systems. Our results extend the definitions and analysis techniques for opacity from non-metric systems to metric systems.

Deciding Detectability for Labeled Petri Nets

Detectability of discrete event systems (DESs) is a property to determine a priori whether the current and subsequent states can be determined based on observations. In this paper, we investigate the verification of two detectability properties -- strong detectability and weak detectability -- for DESs modeled by labeled Petri nets. Strong detectability requires that we can always determine, after a finite number of observations, the current and subsequent markings of the system, while weak detectability requires that we can determine, after a finite number of observations, the current and subsequent markings for some trajectories of the system. We show that for DESs modeled by labeled Petri nets, checking strong detectability is decidable whereas checking weak detectability is undecidable. Our results extend the existing studies on the verification of detectability from finite-state automata to labeled Petri nets. As a consequence, we strengthen a result on checking current-state opacity for labeled Petri nets.
