Universally Optimal Verification of Entangled States with Nondemolition Measurements

The efficient and reliable characterization of quantum states plays a vital role in most, if not all, quantum information processing tasks. In this work, we present a universally optimal protocol for verifying entangled states by employing the so-called quantum nondemolition measurements, such that the verification efficiency is equivalent to that of the optimal global strategy. Instead of being probabilistic as the standard verification strategies, our protocol is constructed sequentially, which is thus more favorable for experimental realizations. In addition, the target states are preserved in the protocol after each measurement, so can be reused in any subsequent tasks. We demonstrate the power of our protocol for the optimal verification of Bell states, arbitrary two-qubit pure states, and stabilizer states. We also prove that our protocol is able to perform tasks including fidelity estimation and state preparation.

High-performance parallel classical scheme for simulating shallow quantum circuits

Recently, constant-depth quantum circuits are proved more powerful than their classical counterparts at solving certain problems, e.g., the two-dimensional (2D) hidden linear function (HLF) problem regarding a symmetric binary matrix. To further investigate the boundary between classical and quantum computing models, in this work we propose a high-performance two-stage classical scheme to solve a full-sampling variant of the 2D HLF problem, which combines traditional classical parallel algorithms and a gate-based classical circuit model together for exactly simulating the target shallow quantum circuits. Under reasonable parameter assumptions, a theoretical analysis reveals our classical simulator consumes less runtime than that of near-term quantum processors for most problem instances. Furthermore, we demonstrate the typical all-connected 2D grid instances by moderate FPGA circuits, and show our designed parallel scheme is a practically scalable, high-efficient and operationally convenient tool for simulating and verifying graph-state circuits performed by current quantum hardware.

Canonical loop quantization of the lowest-order projectable Horava gravity

The Hamiltonian formulation of the lowest-order projectable Horava gravity, namely the so-called $λ$-$R$ gravity, is studied. Since a preferred foliation has been chosen in projectable Horava gravity, there is no local Hamiltonian constraint in the theory. In contrast to general relativity, the constraint algebra of $λ$-$R$ gravity forms a Lie algebra. By canonical transformations, we further obtain the connection-dynamical formalism of the $λ$-R gravity theories with real $su(2)$-connections as configuration variables. This formalism enables us to extend the scheme of non-perturbative loop quantum gravity to the $λ$-$R$ gravity. While the quantum kinematical framework is the same as that for general relativity, the Hamiltonian constraint operator of loop quantum $λ$-$R$ gravity can be well defined in the diffeomorphism-invariant Hilbert space. Moreover, by introducing a global dust degree of freedom to represent a dynamical time, a physical Hamiltonian operator with respect to the dust can be defined and the physical states satisfying all the constraints are obtained.

Energy conditions in new model of loop quantum cosmology

Recently, a de-Sitter epoch has been found in the new model of loop quantum cosmology which is governed by the scalar constraint with both of Euclidean and Lorentz terms. The singularity free bounce in the new LQC model and the emergent cosmology constant strongly suggest that the effective stress energy tensor induced by quantum corrections must violate the standard energy conditions. In this paper, we do an explicit calculation to analyze the behaviours of specific representative energy conditions, i.e., average null, strong and dominant energy conditions. It turns out that the averaging null energy condition is violated while the dominant energy condition is violated only at a period around the bounce point. More specifically, the strong energy condition is violated not only at a period around the bounce point, but also the whole period from the bounce point to the classical phase corresponding to the de Sitter period. Our results is expected to shed some lights on construction of the wormhole and time machine which usually need exotic matters violate energy conditions.

Topologically protected long-range coherent energy transfer

The realization of robust coherent energy transfer with a long range from a donor to an acceptor has many important applications in the field of quantum optics. However, it is hard to be realized using conventional schemes. Here, we demonstrate theoretically that the robust energy transfer can be achieved using a photonic crystal platform, which includes the topologically protected edge state and zero-dimensional topological corner cavities. When the donor and the acceptor are put into a pair of separated topological cavities, respectively, the energy transfer between them can be fulfilled with the assistance of the topologically protected interface state. Such an energy transfer is robust against various kinds of defects, and can also occur over very long distances, which is very beneficial for biological detections, sensors, quantum information science and so on.

Topologically protected strong coupling and entanglement between distant quantum emitters

The realization of robust strong coupling and entanglement between distant quantum emitters (QEs) is very important for scalable quantum information processes. However, it is hard to achieve it based on conventional systems. Here, we propose theoretically and demonstrate numerically a scheme to realize such strong coupling and entanglement. Our scheme is based on the photonic crystal platform with topologically protected edge state and zero-dimensional topological corner cavities. When the QEs are put into topological cavities, the strong coupling between them can be fulfilled with the assistance of the topologically protected interface state. Such a strong coupling can maintain a very long distance and be robust against various defects. Especially, we numerically prove that the topologically protected entanglement between two QEs can also be realized. Moreover, the duration of quantum beats for such entanglement can reach several orders longer than that for the entanglement in a conventional photonic cavity, making it be very beneficial for a scalable quantum information process.

Collisional Penrose process of BTZ black holes

The Penrose process in the vicinity of an extremal Banãdos-Teitelboim-Zanelli(BTZ) black hole is studied. Due to the existence of negative cosmological constant, only massless particles could escape to infinity. Hence we analyse the Penrose process by one massless particle collides with another massive particle near the horizon of BTZ black holes. Calculations of the maximum energy extraction efficiency of this process is carried out for both spinless and spinning particles. Our results show that the spinning particle have a higher energy extraction efficiency than the spinless particle. Moreover, our calculation also indicates that the maximum energy extraction efficiency is independent of the value of the cosmological constant of BTZ black holes.

Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics with Second-Order Topological Corner State

Topological photonics provides a new paradigm in studying cavity quantum electrodynamics with robustness to disorder. In this work, we demonstrate the coupling between single quantum dots and the second-order topological corner state. Based on the second-order topological corner state, a topological photonic crystal cavity is designed and fabricated into GaAs slabs with quantum dots embedded. The coexistence of corner state and edge state with high quality factor close to 2000 is observed. The enhancement of photoluminescence intensity and emission rate are both observed when the quantum dot is on resonance with the corner state. This result enables the application of topology into cavity quantum electrodynamics, offering an approach to topological devices for quantum information processing.

Hyperspectral Images Classification Based on Multi-scale Residual Network

Because hyperspectral remote sensing images contain a lot of redundant information and the data structure is highly non-linear, leading to low classification accuracy of traditional machine learning methods. The latest research shows that hyperspectral image classification based on deep convolutional neural network has high accuracy. However, when a small amount of data is used for training, the classification accuracy of deep learning methods is greatly reduced. In order to solve the problem of low classification accuracy of existing algorithms on small samples of hyperspectral images, a multi-scale residual network is proposed. The multi-scale extraction and fusion of spatial and spectral features is realized by adding a branch structure into the residual block and using convolution kernels of different sizes in the branch. The spatial and spectral information contained in hyperspectral images are fully utilized to improve the classification accuracy. In addition, in order to improve the speed and prevent overfitting, the model uses dynamic learning rate, BN and Dropout strategies. The experimental results show that the overall classification accuracy of this method is 99.07% and 99.96% respectively in the data set of Indian Pines and Pavia University, which is better than other algorithms.

Efficient verification of quantum processes

Quantum processes, such as quantum circuits, quantum memories, and quantum channels, are essential ingredients in almost all quantum information processing tasks. However, the characterization of these processes remains a daunting task due to the exponentially increasing amount of resources required by traditional methods. Here, by first proposing the concept of quantum process verification, we establish two efficient and practical protocols for verifying quantum processes which can provide an exponential improvement over the standard quantum process tomography and a quadratic improvement over the method of direct fidelity estimation. The efficacy of our protocols is illustrated with the verification of various quantum gates as well as the processes of well-known quantum circuits. Moreover, our protocols are readily applicable with current experimental techniques since only local measurements are required. In addition, we show that our protocols for verifying quantum processes can be easily adapted to verify quantum measurements.

Low-threshold topological nanolasers based on second-order corner state

The topological lasers, which are immune to imperfections and disorders, have been recently demonstrated based on many kinds of robust edge states, being mostly at microscale. The realization of 2D on-chip topological nanolasers, having the small footprint, low threshold and high energy efficiency, is still to be explored. Here, we report on the first experimental demonstration of the topological nanolaser with high performance in 2D photonic crystal slab. Based on the generalized 2D Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, a topological nanocavity is formed with the help of the Wannier-type 0D corner state. Laser behaviors with low threshold about 1 $μW$ and high spontaneous emission coupling factor of 0.25 are observed with quantum dots as the active material. Such performance is much better than that of topological edge lasers and comparable to conventional photonic crystal nanolasers. Our experimental demonstration of the low-threshold topological nanolaser will be of great significance to the development of topological nanophotonic circuitry for manipulation of photons in classical and quantum regimes.

Quantum geometry and effective dynamics of Janis-Newman-Winicour singularities

Inspired by the recent proposal for the quantum effective dynamics of the Schwarzschild spacetime given in \cite{AOS1}, we investigate the effective dynamics of the loop quantized Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) spacetime which is an extension of the Schwarzschild spacetime with an extra minimally coupled massless scalar field. Two parameters are introduced in order to regularize the Hamiltonian constraint in the quantum effective dynamics. These two parameters are assumed to be Dirac observables when the effective dynamics is solved. By carefully choosing appropriate conditions for these two parameters, we completely determine them, and the resulted new effective description of the JNW spacetime leads to a well behaved quantum dynamics which on one hand resolves the classical singularities, and on the other hand, agrees with the classical dynamics in the low curvature region.

Entanglement-based quantum deep learning

Classical deep learning algorithms have aroused great interest in both academia and industry for their utility in image recognition, language translation, decision-making problems and more. In this work, we have provided a quantum deep learning scheme based on multi-qubit entanglement states, including computation and training of neural network in full quantum process. In the course of training, efficient calculation of the distance between unknown unit vector and known unit vector has been realized by proper measurement based on the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entanglement states. An exponential speedup over classical algorithms has been demonstrated. In the process of computation, quantum scheme corresponding to multi-layer feedforward neural network has been provided. We have shown the utility of our scheme using Iris dataset. The extensibility of the present scheme to different types of model has also been analyzed

Vector exceptional points with strong superchiral fields

Exceptional points(EPs), branch points of complex energy surfaces at which eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce, are ubiquitous in non-Hermitian systems. Many novel properties and applications have been proposed around the EPs. One of the important applications is to enhance the detection sensitivity. However, due to the lack of single-handed superchiral fields, all of the proposed EP-based sensing mechanisms are only useful for the non-chiral discrimination. Here, we propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally a new type of EP, which is a called radiation vector EP, to fulfill the homogeneous superchiral fields for chiral sensing. This type of EP is realized by suitably tuning the coupling strength and radiation losses for a pair of orthogonal polarization modes in the photonic crystal slab. Based on the unique modal-coupling property at the vector EP, we demonstrate that the uniform superchiral fields can be generated with two beams of lights illuminating on the photonic crystal slab from opposite directions. Thus, the designed photonic crystal slab, which supports the vector EP, can be used to perform surface-enhanced chiral detection. Our findings provide a new strategy for ultrasensitive characterization and quantification of molecular chirality, a key aspect for various bioscience and biomedicine applications.

Topolectrical-circuit realization of 4D hexadecapole insulator

Recently, the theory of quantized dipole polarization has been extended to account for electric multipole moments, giving rise to the discovery of multipole topological insulators (TIs). Both two-dimensional (2D) quadrupole and three-dimensional (3D) octupole TIs with robust zero-dimensional (0D) corner states have been realized in various classical systems. However, due to the intrinsic 3D limitation, the higher dimensional multipole TIs, such as four-dimensional (4D) hexadecapole TIs, are supposed to be extremely hard to construct in real space, although some of their properties have been discussed through the synthetic dimensions. Here, we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate the realization of classical analog of 4D hexadecapole TI based on the electric circuits in fully real space. The explicit construction of 4D hexadecapole circuits, where the connection of nodes is allowed in any desired way free from constraints of locality and dimensionality, is provided. By direct circuit simulations and impedance measurements, the in-gap corner states protected by the quantized hexadecapole moment in the 4D circuit lattices are observed and the robustness of corner state is also demonstrated. Our work offers a new pathway to study the higher order/dimensional topological physics in real space.

Maximal efficiency of the collisional Penrose process with spinning particles in Kerr-Sen black hole

We study the collision of two uncharged spinning particles around an extreme Kerr-Sen black hole and calculate the maximal efficiency of the energy extraction from the Kerr-Sen black hole via super Penrose process. We consider the collision of two massive particles as well as collision of a massless particle with a massive particle. For all the cases, we find that the maximum efficiency decreases as the Kerr-Sen black hole's parameter($b=1-a$) increases.

Collision of spinning particles near BTZ black holes

We study the collision property of spinning particles near a Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole. Our results show that although the center-of-mass energy of two ingoing particles diverges if one of the particles possesses a critical angular momentum, however, particle with critical angular momentum can not exist outside of the horizon due to the violation of timelike constraint. Further detailed investigation indicates that only the particle with a subcritical angular momentum is allowed to exist near an extremal rotating BTZ black hole and the corresponding collision center-of-mass energy can be arbitrarily large in a critical angular momentum limit.

Photonic quadrupole topological phases in zero-dimensional cavity with synthetic dimensions

Quadrupole topological insulator, which supports robust corner states, has been recently demonstrated in two-dimensional (2D) spatial lattices. Here, we design the first photonic quadrupole topological insulator in fully synthetic spaces with the utilization of 0D optical cavity. The frequency and orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light are used to form the 2D synthetic spaces. Four degenerate polarization states are mapped to the internal lattice sites within the unit cell. By suitably engineering the coupling between cavity modes with different frequencies, OAMs and polarizations, the ideal synthetic quadrupole topological insulators are obtained. By using the robust synthetic corner state, we present the possibility for achieving topological protection of multi-photon entangled states. Our designed synthetic photonic quadrupole topological insulators propose a unique platform to investigate higher-order topological phases in 0D system and possess potential applications in quantum information and communications.
