CHOW-SLAM: Compact Hybrid Representation with Complementary Overlap Window Optimization for RGB-D SLAM

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) based on Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) enables dense, continuous scene reconstruction. However, existing systems operating with limited online resources struggle to simultaneously construct two types of constraints, namely, compact yet discriminative spatial constraints derived from scene representations and persistent temporal constraints derived from historical observations. To address this challenge, we propose CHOW-SLAM, a dense RGB-D SLAM framework that explicitly constructs these complementary spatial and temporal constraints. Spatially, we propose a compact parametric-hash (P-H) hybrid representation that organizes components based on planes and grids across scales in P and H branches. A unified multi-output decoder further aligns the ray termination distributions induced by TSDF and density, preserving geometry and appearance under a compact parameter budget. Temporally, we propose a complementary overlap-window strategy to prevent optimization from being dominated by short-term overlap or weakly related historical observations. Within a fixed budget, the strategy retains recent frames, selects high-overlap local frames, and introduces temporally distributed historical keyframes. Loss-aware keyframe insertion and bundle adjustment scheduling further adapt optimization to tracking quality. In addition, ORB-based tracking and geometric pose estimation are used for pose initialization, followed by neural rendering optimization to improve tracking stability. Extensive evaluations on multiple datasets demonstrate that CHOW-SLAM outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both scene reconstruction quality and camera tracking accuracy. Channel-Level Relation to Attentive Aggregation with Neighborhood-Homogeneity Constraint for Point Cloud Analysis

In 3D point cloud understanding, the core challenge lies in accurately capturing discriminative features within complex neighborhoods, which directly affects the execution precision of downstream tasks such as embodied AI and autonomous driving. Existing methods explore feature correlation discrimination but are limited to point-level spatial distribution or channel responses, enabling only coarse-grained level evaluation. For modern multi-scale point cloud networks, such coarse-grained metrics inevitably incur significant information loss in deeper layers. To address this, we propose PointCRA, a novel network with a channel-level metric-based enhancement mechanism. Our core idea is to introduce temporal trend variation as a new evaluation dimension to avoid the information loss caused by weight dimension collapse in existing spatial and channel attention mechanisms. On this basis, we construct a multi-level calibration framework guided by neighborhood homogeneity for weight calibration, and design a dedicated loss function to enhance channel discriminability.PointCRA leverages intrinsic feature priors to adaptively correct feature aggregation, offering interpretability with low parameter overhead. Our method is transferable, interpretable, and efficient. We validate the proposed method on diverse datasets and benchmark models, and further demonstrate its rationality through extensive analytical experiments. Our PointCRA achieves 77.5\% mIoU on the S3DIS dataset, 90.4\% OA on the ScanObjectNN dataset, and 87.4\% instance mIoU on the ShapeNetPart dataset. The code and pretrained weights are publicly available on GitHub: https://github.com/AGENT9717/PointCRA

Physics informed operator learning of parameter dependent spectra

Spectral problems governed by differential operators underpin a wide range of physical systems, yet remain computationally challenging because their spectra depend sensitively on continuous parameters and often demand repeated evaluations across parameter space. Here we present $\texttt{DeepOPiraKAN}$, an open source physics informed neural network architecture for spectral analysis. By combining operator learning with enhanced optimization stability, it captures the underlying parameter-to-spectrum mapping in a single model, avoiding repeated spectral solutions at isolated points in parameter space. As a representative and stringent benchmark, we apply this framework to the computation of quasinormal modes of Kerr black holes. A single trained network accurately resolves modes with $(\ell,m)\in \{(2,0),(2,1)\}$ and overtones up to $n=7$ across the full spin range, achieving relative errors of $\mathcal{O}(10^{-6})$ for the fundamental mode and gradually increasing to $\mathcal{O}(10^{-4})$ for higher overtones, benchmarked against the Leaver's method. This level of accuracy is already significant for black hole spectroscopy and practical ringdown modelling for current and future observatories. More broadly, these results highlight the potential of $\texttt{DeepOPiraKAN}$ as a general and scalable framework for parameter dependent spectral problems across complex physical systems.

LRQ-Solver: A Transformer-Based Neural Operator for Fast and Accurate Solving of Large-scale 3D PDEs

Solving large-scale Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) on complex three-dimensional geometries represents a central challenge in scientific and engineering computing, often impeded by expensive pre-processing stages and substantial computational overhead. We introduce Low-Rank Query-based PDE Solver (LRQ-Solver), a physics-integrated framework engineered for rapid, accurate, and highly scalable simulations of industrial-grade models. This framework is built upon two primary technical innovations. First, our Parameter Conditioned Lagrangian Modeling (PCLM) approach explicitly couples local physical states with global design parameters, enabling robust predictions across varied simulation configurations. By embedding physical consistency directly into the learning architecture, PCLM ensures that predictions remain physically meaningful even under unseen design conditions, significantly enhancing generalization and reliability. Second, the Low-Rank Query Attention (LR-QA) module leverages the second-order statistics of physical fields to construct a global coherence kernel, reducing the computational complexity of attention from O(N2) to O(NC2 + C3). By replacing point-wise clustering with covariance decomposition, LRQ-Solver achieves exceptional scalability efficiently processing up to 2 million points on a single GPU. Validated on standard benchmarks, LRQ-Solver achieves a 38.9% error reduction on the DrivAerNet++ dataset and 28.76% on the 3D Beam dataset, alongside a training speedup of up to 50 times. Our results establish that LRQ-Solver offers a powerful paradigm for multi-configuration physics simulations, delivering a SOTA combination of accuracy, scalability, and efficiency. Code to reproduce the experiments is available at https://github.com/LilaKen/LRQ-Solver.

Enhancing point cloud analysis via neighbor aggregation correction based on cross-stage structure correlation

Point cloud analysis is the cornerstone of many downstream tasks, among which aggregating local structures is the basis for understanding point cloud data. While numerous works aggregate neighbor using three-dimensional relative coordinates, there are irrelevant point interference and feature hierarchy gap problems due to the limitation of local coordinates. Although some works address this limitation by refining spatial description though explicit modeling of cross-stage structure, these enhancement methods based on direct geometric structure encoding have problems of high computational overhead and noise sensitivity. To overcome these problems, we propose the Point Distribution Set Abstraction module (PDSA) that utilizes the correlation in the high-dimensional space to correct the feature distribution during aggregation, which improves the computational efficiency and robustness. PDSA distinguishes the point correlation based on a lightweight cross-stage structural descriptor, and enhances structural homogeneity by reducing the variance of the neighbor feature matrix and increasing classes separability though long-distance modeling. Additionally, we introducing a key point mechanism to optimize the computational overhead. The experimental result on semantic segmentation and classification tasks based on different baselines verify the generalization of the method we proposed, and achieve significant performance improvement with less parameter cost. The corresponding ablation and visualization results demonstrate the effectiveness and rationality of our method. YingLong-weather: AI-Based Limited Area Models for Forecasting of Non-precipitation Surface Meteorological Variables

Recently, artificial intelligence-based (AI-based) models for forecasting of global weather have been rapidly developed. Most of the global models are trained on reanalysis datasets with a spatial resolution of 0.25°*0.25°. However, research on AI-based high spatial resolution limited area weather forecasting models remains limited. In this study, YingLong, an AI-based limited area weather forecasting model with a spatial resolution of 3 km * 3 km is developed. YingLong employs a parallel structure of global and local blocks to capture multiscale meteorological features and operates much faster than the dynamical limited area model WRF-ARW. In two selected limited areas (one relatively flat and the other featuring significant mountain ranges), YingLong (with lateral boundary condition imposed by the global AI-based model Pangu-weather) demonstrates superior skill in forecasting surface wind speed compared to WRF-ARW. Additionally, it shows comparable skill in forecasting surface temperature and pressure. The accuracy of surface temperature and humidity forecasts can be further improved by applying better boundary conditions. YingLong also addresses issues related to the lateral boundary conditions of AI-based limited area models, such as selecting the width of the lateral boundary region and combining finer and coarser resolution predictions in this region. Therefore, YingLong has a great potential to generate cost-effective multiyear high-resolution synthetic wind speed that maintain meteorological realism both spatially and temporally, aiding in the planning and operations for wind power generation companies.

High-Yield, Scaling-Up Fabrication of Fermi-Level-Pinning-Free Organic Thin-Film Transistor Arrays with Printed Van der Waals Contacts

Fermi-level pinning (FLP) effect was widely observed in thin-film transistors (TFTs) with van der Waals (vdW) layered semiconductors (organic or two-dimensional) when contact electrodes were thermally evaporated1-3. Intensive investigation was implemented for formation of FLP-free interfacial states by eliminating chemical disorder and crystal defects arising from metal deposition4-9. However, technical and principal challenges are still existing towards high-yield, wafer-scalable and low-cost integration of TFT devices. Herein, we developed a general, scaling-up strategy to fabricate large-scale, high-performance FLP-free organic TFT (OTFT) arrays by using printed vdW contacts consisting of MXene composite electrodes and 2, 7-dioctyl [1] benzothieno [3, 2-b] [1] benzothiophene (C8BTBT). Room-temperature processes allow for a physically stacked junction without any structural or chemical damages. The OTFT arrays can be printed on a large-area silicon wafer or plastic film with 100% yield, exhibit ultrahigh field-effect mobility (μ_FE) over 17.0 square centimetres per volt per second (cm2 V-1s-1), high on/off ratio exceeding 108, relatively low contact resistance of 3k ohm micrometres. The underlying mechanism for the high device performance was unveiled by Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM) combined with theoretical simulation. The results indicate that work function (W_F) of the printed electrodes can be tuned at a wide range of 4.8-5.6 eV, thus significantly lowering the charge-injection barrier at the contact interfaces with ideal FLP-free character (the interfacial factor reaches 0.99 \pm 0.02). This study paves a general strategy for achieving large-scale, high-performance thin-film electronics.

A bioinspired three-stage model for camouflaged object detection

Camouflaged objects are typically assimilated into their backgrounds and exhibit fuzzy boundaries. The complex environmental conditions and the high intrinsic similarity between camouflaged targets and their surroundings pose significant challenges in accurately locating and segmenting these objects in their entirety. While existing methods have demonstrated remarkable performance in various real-world scenarios, they still face limitations when confronted with difficult cases, such as small targets, thin structures, and indistinct boundaries. Drawing inspiration from human visual perception when observing images containing camouflaged objects, we propose a three-stage model that enables coarse-to-fine segmentation in a single iteration. Specifically, our model employs three decoders to sequentially process subsampled features, cropped features, and high-resolution original features. This proposed approach not only reduces computational overhead but also mitigates interference caused by background noise. Furthermore, considering the significance of multi-scale information, we have designed a multi-scale feature enhancement module that enlarges the receptive field while preserving detailed structural cues. Additionally, a boundary enhancement module has been developed to enhance performance by leveraging boundary information. Subsequently, a mask-guided fusion module is proposed to generate fine-grained results by integrating coarse prediction maps with high-resolution feature maps. Our network surpasses state-of-the-art CNN-based counterparts without unnecessary complexities. Upon acceptance of the paper, the source code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/clelouch/BTSNet.

ICDAR 2023 Competition on Structured Text Extraction from Visually-Rich Document Images

Structured text extraction is one of the most valuable and challenging application directions in the field of Document AI. However, the scenarios of past benchmarks are limited, and the corresponding evaluation protocols usually focus on the submodules of the structured text extraction scheme. In order to eliminate these problems, we organized the ICDAR 2023 competition on Structured text extraction from Visually-Rich Document images (SVRD). We set up two tracks for SVRD including Track 1: HUST-CELL and Track 2: Baidu-FEST, where HUST-CELL aims to evaluate the end-to-end performance of Complex Entity Linking and Labeling, and Baidu-FEST focuses on evaluating the performance and generalization of Zero-shot / Few-shot Structured Text extraction from an end-to-end perspective. Compared to the current document benchmarks, our two tracks of competition benchmark enriches the scenarios greatly and contains more than 50 types of visually-rich document images (mainly from the actual enterprise applications). The competition opened on 30th December, 2022 and closed on 24th March, 2023. There are 35 participants and 91 valid submissions received for Track 1, and 15 participants and 26 valid submissions received for Track 2. In this report we will presents the motivation, competition datasets, task definition, evaluation protocol, and submission summaries. According to the performance of the submissions, we believe there is still a large gap on the expected information extraction performance for complex and zero-shot scenarios. It is hoped that this competition will attract many researchers in the field of CV and NLP, and bring some new thoughts to the field of Document AI.

PP-OCRv3: More Attempts for the Improvement of Ultra Lightweight OCR System

Optical character recognition (OCR) technology has been widely used in various scenes, as shown in Figure 1. Designing a practical OCR system is still a meaningful but challenging task. In previous work, considering the efficiency and accuracy, we proposed a practical ultra lightweight OCR system (PP-OCR), and an optimized version PP-OCRv2. In order to further improve the performance of PP-OCRv2, a more robust OCR system PP-OCRv3 is proposed in this paper. PP-OCRv3 upgrades the text detection model and text recognition model in 9 aspects based on PP-OCRv2. For text detector, we introduce a PAN module with large receptive field named LK-PAN, a FPN module with residual attention mechanism named RSE-FPN, and DML distillation strategy. For text recognizer, the base model is replaced from CRNN to SVTR, and we introduce lightweight text recognition network SVTR LCNet, guided training of CTC by attention, data augmentation strategy TextConAug, better pre-trained model by self-supervised TextRotNet, UDML, and UIM to accelerate the model and improve the effect. Experiments on real data show that the hmean of PP-OCRv3 is 5% higher than PP-OCRv2 under comparable inference speed. All the above mentioned models are open-sourced and the code is available in the GitHub repository PaddleOCR which is powered by PaddlePaddle.

PP-Matting: High-Accuracy Natural Image Matting

Natural image matting is a fundamental and challenging computer vision task. It has many applications in image editing and composition. Recently, deep learning-based approaches have achieved great improvements in image matting. However, most of them require a user-supplied trimap as an auxiliary input, which limits the matting applications in the real world. Although some trimap-free approaches have been proposed, the matting quality is still unsatisfactory compared to trimap-based ones. Without the trimap guidance, the matting models suffer from foreground-background ambiguity easily, and also generate blurry details in the transition area. In this work, we propose PP-Matting, a trimap-free architecture that can achieve high-accuracy natural image matting. Our method applies a high-resolution detail branch (HRDB) that extracts fine-grained details of the foreground with keeping feature resolution unchanged. Also, we propose a semantic context branch (SCB) that adopts a semantic segmentation subtask. It prevents the detail prediction from local ambiguity caused by semantic context missing. In addition, we conduct extensive experiments on two well-known benchmarks: Composition-1k and Distinctions-646. The results demonstrate the superiority of PP-Matting over previous methods. Furthermore, we provide a qualitative evaluation of our method on human matting which shows its outstanding performance in the practical application. PP-LiteSeg: A Superior Real-Time Semantic Segmentation Model

Real-world applications have high demands for semantic segmentation methods. Although semantic segmentation has made remarkable leap-forwards with deep learning, the performance of real-time methods is not satisfactory. In this work, we propose PP-LiteSeg, a novel lightweight model for the real-time semantic segmentation task. Specifically, we present a Flexible and Lightweight Decoder (FLD) to reduce computation overhead of previous decoder. To strengthen feature representations, we propose a Unified Attention Fusion Module (UAFM), which takes advantage of spatial and channel attention to produce a weight and then fuses the input features with the weight. Moreover, a Simple Pyramid Pooling Module (SPPM) is proposed to aggregate global context with low computation cost. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that PP-LiteSeg achieves a superior trade-off between accuracy and speed compared to other methods. On the Cityscapes test set, PP-LiteSeg achieves 72.0% mIoU/273.6 FPS and 77.5% mIoU/102.6 FPS on NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti. PP-PicoDet: A Better Real-Time Object Detector on Mobile Devices

The better accuracy and efficiency trade-off has been a challenging problem in object detection. In this work, we are dedicated to studying key optimizations and neural network architecture choices for object detection to improve accuracy and efficiency. We investigate the applicability of the anchor-free strategy on lightweight object detection models. We enhance the backbone structure and design the lightweight structure of the neck, which improves the feature extraction ability of the network. We improve label assignment strategy and loss function to make training more stable and efficient. Through these optimizations, we create a new family of real-time object detectors, named PP-PicoDet, which achieves superior performance on object detection for mobile devices. Our models achieve better trade-offs between accuracy and latency compared to other popular models. PicoDet-S with only 0.99M parameters achieves 30.6% mAP, which is an absolute 4.8% improvement in mAP while reducing mobile CPU inference latency by 55% compared to YOLOX-Nano, and is an absolute 7.1% improvement in mAP compared to NanoDet. It reaches 123 FPS (150 FPS using Paddle Lite) on mobile ARM CPU when the input size is 320. PicoDet-L with only 3.3M parameters achieves 40.9% mAP, which is an absolute 3.7% improvement in mAP and 44% faster than YOLOv5s. As shown in Figure 1, our models far outperform the state-of-the-art results for lightweight object detection.
