Adaptive Kalman-based hybrid car following strategy using TD3 and CACC

In autonomous driving, the hybrid strategy of deep reinforcement learning and cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) can fully utilize the advantages of the two algorithms and significantly improve the performance of car following. However, it is challenging for the traditional hybrid strategy based on fixed coefficients to adapt to mixed traffic flow scenarios, which may decrease the performance and even lead to accidents. To address the above problems, a hybrid car following strategy based on an adaptive Kalman Filter is proposed by regarding CACC and Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (TD3) algorithms. Different from traditional hybrid strategy based on fixed coefficients, the Kalman gain H, using as an adaptive coefficient, is derived from multi-timestep predictions and Monte Carlo Tree Search. At the end of study, simulation results with 4157745 timesteps indicate that, compared with the TD3 and HCFS algorithms, the proposed algorithm in this study can substantially enhance the safety of car following in mixed traffic flow without compromising the comfort and efficiency.

New entanglement-assisted quantum codes from negacyclic codes

The theory of entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) is a generalization of the standard stabilizer quantum error-correcting codes, which can be possibly constructed from any classical codes by relaxing the duality condition and utilizing preshared entanglement between the sender and receiver. In this paper, a new family of EAQECCs is constructed from negacyclic codes of length $n=\frac{q^2+1}{a}$, where $q$ is an odd prime power, $a=\frac{m^2+1}{2}$ and $m$ is an odd integer. Some new entanglement-assisted quantum maximum distance separable (EAQMDS) codes are obtained in the sense that their parameters are not covered by the previously known ones.

Joint Optimization of Video-based AI Inference Tasks in MEC-assisted Augmented Reality Systems

The high computational complexity and energy consumption of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms hinder their application in augmented reality (AR) systems. However, mobile edge computing (MEC) makes it possible to solve this problem. This paper considers the scene of completing video-based AI inference tasks in the MEC system. We formulate a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP) to reduce inference delays, energy consumption and to improve recognition accuracy. We give a simplified expression of the inference complexity model and accuracy model through derivation and experimentation. The problem is then solved iteratively by using alternating optimization. Specifically, by assuming that the offloading decision is given, the problem is decoupled into two sub-problems, i.e., the resource allocation problem for the devices set that completes the inference tasks locally, and that for the devices set that offloads tasks. For the problem of offloading decision optimization, we propose a Channel-Aware heuristic algorithm. To further reduce the complexity, we propose an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) based distributed algorithm. The ADMM-based algorithm has a low computational complexity that grows linearly with the number of devices. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness of proposed algorithms. The trade-off relationship between delay, energy consumption, and accuracy is also analyzed.

A Novel Energy Efficiency Metric for Next Generation Wireless Communication Networks

As a core performance metric for green communications, the conventional energy efficiency definition has successfully resolved many issues in the energy efficient wireless network design. In the past several generations of wireless communication networks, the traditional energy efficiency measure plays an important role to guide many energy saving techniques for slow varying traffic profiles. However, for the next generation wireless networks, the traditional energy efficiency fails to capture the traffic and capacity variations of wireless networks in temporal or spatial domains, which is shown to be quite popular, especially with ultra-scale multiple antennas and space-air-ground integrated network. In this paper, we present a novel energy efficiency metric named integrated relative energy efficiency (IREE), which is able to jointly measure the traffic profiles and the network capacities from the energy efficiency perspective. On top of that, the IREE based green trade-offs have been investigated and compared with the conventional energy efficient design. Moreover, we apply the IREE based green trade-offs to evaluate several candidate technologies for 6G networks, including reconfigurable intelligent surfaces and space-air-ground integrated network. Through some analytical and numerical results, we show that the proposed IREE metric is able to capture the wireless traffic and capacity mismatch property, which is significantly different from the conventional energy efficiency metric. Since the IREE oriented design or deployment strategy is able to consider the network capacity improvement and the wireless traffic matching simultaneously, it can be regarded as a useful guidance for future energy efficient network design.

Joint Optimization of DNN Inference Delay and Energy under Accuracy Constraints for AR Applications

The high computational complexity and high energy consumption of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms hinder their application in augmented reality (AR) systems. This paper considers the scene of completing video-based AI inference tasks in the mobile edge computing (MEC) system. We use multiply-and-accumulate operations (MACs) for problem analysis and optimize delay and energy consumption under accuracy constraints. To solve this problem, we first assume that offloading policy is known and decouple the problem into two subproblems. After solving these two subproblems, we propose an iterative-based scheduling algorithm to obtain the optimal offloading policy. We also experimentally discuss the relationship between delay, energy consumption, and inference accuracy.

$q$-Analogues of $π$-Related Formulae from Jackson's $_8ϕ_7$-Series via Inversion Approach

By making use of the multiplicate form of the extended Carlitz inverse series relations, we establish two general `dual' theorems of Jackson's summation formula for well--poised $_8ϕ_7$-series. Their duplicate forms under the partition pattern $n=\lfloor{\frac{n}2}\rfloor+\lfloor{\frac{n+1}2}\rfloor$ are explored and yield numerous $q$-series identities whose limiting cases as $q\to1$ result in classical $π$-related Ramanujan--like series of convergence rate ``$\frac1{16}$" including one for $1/π^2$ discovered by Guillera (2003). The triplicate dual formulae under the partition pattern $n=\lfloor{\frac{n}3}\rfloor+\lfloor{\frac{n+1}3}\rfloor+\lfloor{\frac{n+2}3}\rfloor$ are examined via the ``reverse bisection method", which leads us to twenty new $q$-series identities together with their classical counterparts of convergence rate ``$\frac{-1}{27}$" when $q\to1$.

Applying the triplicate form of the extended Gould--Hsu inverse series relations to Dougall's summation theorem for the well--poised $_7F_6$-series, we establish, from the dual series, several interesting Ramanujan--like infinite series expressions for $π^2$ and $π^{\pm1}$ with convergence rate "$-\frac{1}{27}$".

Technical Report for A Joint User Scheduling and Trajectory Planning Data Collection Strategy for the UAV-assisted WSN

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are usually dispatched as mobile sinks to assist data collection in large-scale wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, when considering the limitations of UAV's mobility and communication capabilities in a large-scale WSN, some sensor nodes may run out of storage space as they fail to offload their data to the UAV for an extended period of time. To minimize the data loss caused by the above issue, a joint user scheduling and trajectory planning data collection strategy is proposed in this letter, which is formulated as a non-convex optimization problem. The problem is further divided into two sub-problems and solved sequentially. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy is more effective in minimizing data loss rate than other strategies.

Cyclic codes and some new entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes

Entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) play a significant role in protecting quantum information from decoherence and quantum noise. Recently, constructing entanglement-assisted quantum maximum distance separable (EAQMDS) codes with flexible parameters has received much attention. In this work, four families of EAQMDS codes with a more general length are presented. And the method of selecting defining set is different from others. Compared with all the previously known results, the EAQMDS codes we constructed have larger minimum distance. All of these EAQMDS codes are new in the sense that their parameters are not covered by the quantum codes available in the literature.

An Analytical Framework for Delay Optimal Mobile Edge Deployment in Wireless Networks

The emerging edge caching provides an effective way to reduce service delay for mobile users. However, due to high deployment cost of edge hosts, a practical problem is how to achieve minimum delay under a proper edge deployment strategy. In this letter, we provide an analytical framework for delay optimal mobile edge deployment in a partially connected wireless network, where the request files can be cached at the edge hosts and cooperatively transmitted through multiple base stations. In order to deal with the heterogeneous transmission requirements, we separate the entire transmission into backhaul and wireless phases, and propose average user normalized delivery time (AUNDT) as the performance metric. On top of that, we characterize the trade-off relations between the proposed AUNDT and other network deployment parameters. Using the proposed analytical framework, we are able to provide the optimal mobile edge deployment strategy in terms of AUNDT, which provides a useful guideline for future mobile edge deployment.

Cooling-Aware Resource Allocation and Load Management for Mobile Edge Computing Systems

Driven by explosive computation demands of Internet of Things (IoT), mobile edge computing (MEC) provides a promising technique to enhance the computation capability for mobile users. In this paper, we propose a joint resource allocation and load management mechanism in an MEC system with wireless power transfer (WPT), by jointly optimizing the transmit power for WPT, the local/edge computing load, the offloading time, and the frequencies of the central processing units (CPUs) at the access point (AP) and the users. To achieve an energy-efficient and sustainable WPT-MEC system, we minimize the total energy consumption of the AP, while meeting computation latency requirements. Cooling energy which is non-negligible, is taken into account in minimizing the energy consumption of the MEC system. By rigorously orchestrating the state-of-the-art optimization techniques, we design an iterative algorithm and obtain the optimal solution in a semi-closed form. Based on the solution, interesting properties and insights are summarized. Extensive numerical tests show that the proposed algorithm can save up to 90.4% the energy of existing benchmarks.

Modeling and Analysis of Energy Harvesting and Smart Grid-Powered Wireless Communication Networks: A Contemporary Survey

The advancements in smart power grid and the advocation of ``green communications'' have inspired the wireless communication networks to harness energy from ambient environments and operate in an energy-efficient manner for economic and ecological benefits. This article presents a contemporary review of recent breakthroughs on the utilization, redistribution, trading and planning of energy harvested in future wireless networks interoperating with smart grids. This article starts with classical models of renewable energy harvesting technologies. We embark on constrained operation and optimization of different energy harvesting wireless systems, such as point-to-point, multipoint-to-point, multipoint-to-multipoint, multi-hop, and multi-cell systems. We also review wireless power and information transfer technologies which provide a special implementation of energy harvesting wireless communications. A significant part of the article is devoted to the redistribution of redundant (unused) energy harvested within cellular networks, the energy planning under dynamic pricing when smart grids are in place, and two-way energy trading between cellular networks and smart grids. Applications of different optimization tools, such as convex optimization, Lagrangian dual-based method, subgradient method, and Lyapunov-based online optimization, are compared. This article also collates the potential applications of energy harvesting techniques in emerging (or upcoming) 5G/B5G communication systems. It is revealed that an effective redistribution and two-way trading of energy can significantly reduce the electricity bills of wireless service providers and decrease the consumption of brown energy. A list of interesting research directions are provided, requiring further investigation.

Robust Sub-Meter Level Indoor Localization With a Single WiFi Access Point-Regression Versus Classification

Precise indoor localization is an increasingly demanding requirement for various emerging applications, like Virtual/Augmented reality and personalized advertising. Current indoor environments are equipped with pluralities of WiFi access points (APs), whose deployment is expected to be massive in the future enabling highly precise localization approaches. Though the conventional model-based localization schemes have achieved sub-meter level accuracy by fusing multiple channel state information (CSI) observations, the corresponding computational overhead is usually significant, especially in the current multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. In order to address this issue, model-free localization techniques using deep learning frameworks have been lately proposed, where mainly classification methods were applied. In this paper, instead of classification based mechanism, we propose a logistic regression based scheme with the deep learning framework, combined with Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) assisted robust training, which achieves more robust sub-meter level accuracy (0.97m median distance error) in the standard laboratory environment and maintains reasonable online prediction overhead under the single WiFi AP settings.

A Deep Learning Based Resource Allocation Scheme in Vehicular Communication Systems

In vehicular communications, intracell interference and the stringent latency requirement are challenging issues. In this paper, a joint spectrum reuse and power allocation problem is formulated for hybrid vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Recognizing the high capacity and low-latency requirements for V2I and V2V links, respectively, we aim to maximize the weighted sum of the capacities and latency requirement. By decomposing the original problem into a classification subproblem and a regression sub-problem, a convolutional neural network (CNN) based approach is developed to obtain real-time decisions on spectrum reuse and power allocation. Numerical results further demonstrate that the proposed CNN can achieve similar performance as the Exhaustive method, while needs only 3.62% of its CPU runtime.

Multi-Timescale Online Optimization of Network Function Virtualization for Service Chaining

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) can cost-efficiently provide network services by running different virtual network functions (VNFs) at different virtual machines (VMs) in a correct order. This can result in strong couplings between the decisions of the VMs on the placement and operations of VNFs. This paper presents a new fully decentralized online approach for optimal placement and operations of VNFs. Building on a new stochastic dual gradient method, our approach decouples the real-time decisions of VMs, asymptotically minimizes the time-average cost of NFV, and stabilizes the backlogs of network services with a cost-backlog tradeoff of $[ε,1/ε]$, for any $ε> 0$. Our approach can be relaxed into multiple timescales to have VNFs (re)placed at a larger timescale and hence alleviate service interruptions. While proved to preserve the asymptotic optimality, the larger timescale can slow down the optimal placement of VNFs. A learn-and-adapt strategy is further designed to speed the placement up with an improved tradeoff $[ε,\log^2(ε)/{\sqrtε}]$. Numerical results show that the proposed method is able to reduce the time-average cost of NFV by 30\% and reduce the queue length (or delay) by 83\%, as compared to existing benchmarks.

Entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes constructed from constacyclic codes

Recently, entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) have been constructed by cyclic codes and negacyclic codes. In this paper, by analyzing the cyclotomic cosets in the defining set of constacyclic codes, we constructed three classes of new EAQECCs which satisfy the entanglement-assisted quantum Singleton bound. Besides, three classes of EAQECCs with maximal entanglement from constacyclic codes are constructed in the meanwhile.
