Two-Way Energy Trading and Online Planning for Fifth-Generation Communications with Renewables

Future fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks, equipped with energy harvesting devices, are uniquely positioned to closely interoperate with smart grid. New interoperable functionalities are discussed in stochastic two-way energy trading and online planning to improve efficiency and productivity. Challenges lie in the unavailability of a-priori knowledge on future wireless channels, energy pricing and harvesting. Lyapunov optimization techniques are utilized to address the challenges and stochastically optimize energy trading and planning. Particularly, it is able to decouple the optimization of energy trading and planning during individual time slots, hence eliminating the need for joint optimization across a large number of slots.

Two-Scale Stochastic Control for Multipoint Communication Systems with Renewables

Increasing threats of global warming and climate changes call for an energy-efficient and sustainable design of future wireless communication systems. To this end, a novel two-scale stochastic control framework is put forth for smart-grid powered coordinated multi-point (CoMP) systems. Taking into account renewable energy sources (RES), dynamic pricing, two-way energy trading facilities and imperfect energy storage devices, the energy management task is formulated as an infinite-horizon optimization problem minimizing the time-average energy transaction cost, subject to the users' quality of service (QoS) requirements. Leveraging the Lyapunov optimization approach as well as the stochastic subgradient method, a two-scale online control (TS-OC) approach is developed for the resultant smart-grid powered CoMP systems. Using only historical data, the proposed TS-OC makes online control decisions at two timescales, and features a provably feasible and asymptotically near-optimal solution. Numerical tests further corroborate the theoretical analysis, and demonstrate the merits of the proposed approach.

Applications of the affine structures on the Teichmüller spaces

We prove the existence of global sections trivializing the Hodge bundles on the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau manifolds, a global splitting property of these Hodge bundles. We also prove that a compact Calabi--Yau manifold can not be deformed to its complex conjugate. These results answer certain open questions in the subject. A general result about the period map to be bi-holomorphic from the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau type manifolds to their period domains is proved and applied to the cases of K$3$ surfaces, cubic fourfolds, and hyperkähler manifolds.

Cyclic DNA codes over F2+uF2+vF2+uvF2

In this work, we study the structure of cyclic DNA codes of arbitrary lengths over the ring R=F2+uF2+vF2+uvF2 and establish relations to codes over R1=F2+uF2 by defining a Gray map between R and R1^2 where R1 is the ring with 4 elements. Cyclic codes of arbitrary lengths over R satisfied the reverse constraint and the reverse-complement constraint are studied in this paper. The GC content constraint is considered in the last.

UV spectra of iron-doped carbon clusters FeC_n n = 3-6

Electronic transitions of jet-cooled FeC$_n$ clusters ($n = 3 - 6$) were measured between 230 and 300 nm by a mass-resolved 1+1 resonant two-photon ionization technique. Rotational profiles were simulated based on previous calculations of ground state geometries and compared to experimental observations. Reasonable agreement is found for the planar fan-like structure of FeC$_3$. The FeC$_4$ data indicate a shorter distance between the Fe atom and the bent C$_4$ unit of the fan. The transitions are suggested to be $^{3}$A$_{2} \leftarrow ^{3}$B$_{1}$ for FeC$_3$ and $^{5}$A$_{1} \leftarrow ^{5}$A$_{1}$ for FeC$_4$. In contrast to the predicted C$_{\infty \text{v}}$ geometry, non-linear FeC$_5$ is apparently observed. Line width broadening prevents analysis of the FeC$_6$ spectrum.

Binary and nonbinary description of hypointensity in human brain MR images

Accumulating evidence has shown that iron is involved in the mechanism underlying many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. Abnormal (higher) iron accumulation has been detected in the brains of most neurodegenerative patients, especially in the basal ganglia region. Presence of iron leads to changes in MR signal in both magnitude and phase. Accordingly, tissues with high iron concentration appear hypo-intense (darker than usual) in MR contrasts. In this report, we proposed an improved binary hypointensity description and a novel nonbinary hypointensity description based on principle components analysis. Moreover, Kendall's rank correlation coefficient was used to compare the complementary and redundant information provided by the two methods in order to better understand the individual descriptions of iron accumulation in the brain.
