Two-Dimensional GaN: An Excellent Electrode Material Providing Fast Ion Diffusion and High Storage Capacity for Li-Ion and Na-Ion Batteries

Identifying applicable anode materials is a significant task for Li- and Na-ion battery (LIB and NIB) technologies. We propose the GaN monolayer (2D GaN) can be a good anode candidate. The GaN monolayer manifests stable Li/Na adsorption and inherently low theoretical voltages. Most excitingly, both high storage capacity and extremely fast Li/Na diffusion can be simultaneously realized in the GaN monolayer. For Li, the storage capacity and diffusion barrier is 938 mA h g-1 and 80 meV , respectively. And the values for Na are 625 mA h g-1 and 22 meV. Comparing with known 2D anode materials with similar scale of ion diffusion barriers, the GaN monolayer almost possesses the highest Li/Na storage capacity discovered to date. Our work suggests that the 2D GaN is a prospective anode material offering fast ion diffusion and high storage capacity.

Topological Phase with Critical-Type Nodal Line State in Intermetallic CaPd

In recent years, realizing new topological phase of matter has been a hot topic in the fields of physics and materials science. Topological semimetals and metals can conventionally be classified into two types: type-I and type-II according to the tilting degree of the fermion cone. Here, it is the first time to report a new topological metal phase with the critical-type nodal line between type-I and type-II nodal line. The critical-type nodal line shows a unique nontrivial band crossing which is composed of a at band and a dispersive band and leads to a new fermionic state. We propose intermetallic CaPd can be an existing topological metal for the new fermionic state, characterized with critical-type nodal line in the bulk and drumhead band structure on the surface. Our work not only promotes the concept of critical-type nodal line, but also provides the material realization to study its exotic properties in future experiments.

The centrosymmetric Li2NaN material: an ideal topological semimetal with critical-type triply degenerate nodal points

Triply degenerate band crossing can generate novel triply degenerate nodal point (TDNP) fermions. For the TDNP character to the best manifest in physical properties, it desires that the TDNPs are near the Fermi level, far away with each other in the reciprocal space, and not coexisting with other quasiparticles or extraneous bands. Here we predict that the centrosymmetic material Li2NaN is a realistic TDNP semimetal that meets all these requirements. Li2NaN features only a single pair of TDNPs at the Fermi level, under the protection of the C6v symmetry. Interestingly, the TDNPs identified here show the critical-type band crossing, which is different from those in previously reported TDNP semimetals. The Fermi arc surface states for the TDNPs have been identified. Under lattice strain, we show that the position of the TDNPs can be tuned, and the TDNPs can even be annihilated. The centrosymmetry in Li2NaN makes the TDNP transform into a critical type Dirac point under the spin-orbit coupling, which is drastically distinct from those in noncentrosymmetric systems. Such centrosymmetic TDNP semimetal has been rarely identified in realistic materials.

Keyphrase Generation with Correlation Constraints

In this paper, we study automatic keyphrase generation. Although conventional approaches to this task show promising results, they neglect correlation among keyphrases, resulting in duplication and coverage issues. To solve these problems, we propose a new sequence-to-sequence architecture for keyphrase generation named CorrRNN, which captures correlation among multiple keyphrases in two ways. First, we employ a coverage vector to indicate whether the word in the source document has been summarized by previous phrases to improve the coverage for keyphrases. Second, preceding phrases are taken into account to eliminate duplicate phrases and improve result coherence. Experiment results show that our model significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art method on benchmark datasets in terms of both accuracy and diversity.

Electronic properties of a $π$-conjugated Cairo pentagonal lattice: Direct band gap, ultrahigh carrier mobility and slant Dirac cones

Two-dimensional (2D) lattices composed exclusively of pentagons represent an exceptional structure of materials correlated to the famous pentagonal tiling problem in mathematics, but their $π$-conjugation and the related electronic properties have never been reported. Here, we propose a tight-binding (TB) model for a 2D Cairo pentagonal lattice and demonstrate that $p$-$d$ $π$-conjugation in the unique framework leads to intriguing properties, such as an intrinsic direct band gap, ultra-high carrier mobility and even slant Dirac cones. On the basis of first-principles calculations, we predict a candidate material, 2D penta-NiP$_2$ monolayer, derivated from bulk NiP$_2$ crystal, to realize the predictions of the TB model. It has ultra-high carrier mobility ($\sim$$10^5-10^6$ $cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$) comparable to that of graphene and an intrinsic direct band gap of 0.818 eV, which are long desired for high-speed electronic devices. The stability and possible synthetic routes of penta-NiP$_2$ monolayer are also discussed.

Ideal inner nodal chain semimetals in Li2XY (X = Ca, Ba; Y = Si, Ge) materials

The chain-type nodal loops in the reciprocal space can generate exotic nodal chain fermions. Here, we report that Li2XY (X = Ca, Ba; Y = Si, Ge) compounds are ideal inner nodal chain semimetals. Their band structures are composed of two connecting nodal loops with either hybrid or type-I band dispersion. The signatures of the nodal chain, such as the nontrivial surface states, are quite pronounced in these Li2XY compounds since there is only a single inner nodal chain without other extraneous bands near the Fermi level. These compounds are existing materials and ambient-stable, which is available to realize the experimental detection of inner nodal chain fermions or further the practical applications.

A Numerical Study of the Relationship Between Erectile Pressure and Shear Wave Speed of Corpus Cavernosa in Ultrasound Vibro-elastography

The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between erectile pressure (EP) and shear wave speed of the corpus cavernosa obtained via a specific ultrasound vibro-elastography (UVE) technique. This study builds upon our prior investigation, in which UVE was used to evaluate the viscoelastic properties of the corpus cavernosa in the flaccid and erect states. A two-dimensional poroviscoelastic finite element model (FEM) was developed to simulate wave propagation in the penile tissue according to our experimental setup. Various levels of EP were applied to the corpus cavernosa, and the relationship between shear wave speed in the corpus cavernosa and EP was investigated. Results demonstrated non-linear, positive correlations between shear wave speeds in the corpus cavernosa and increasing EP at different vibration frequencies (100-200 Hz). These findings represent the first report of the impact of EP on shear wave speed and validates the use of UVE in the evaluation of men with erectile dysfunction. Further evaluations are warranted to determine the clinical utility of this instrument in the diagnosis and treatment of men with erectile dysfunction.

Novel subjet observables for jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions

Using a novel observable that relies on the momentum difference of the two most energetic subjets within a jet $ΔS_{12}$ we study the internal structure of high-energy jets simulated by several Monte Carlo event generators that implement the partonic energy-loss in a dense partonic medium. Based on inclusive jet and di-jet production we demonstrate that $ΔS_{12}$ is an effective tool to discriminate between different models of jet modifications over a broad kinematic range. The new quantity, while preserving the colinear and infrared safety of modern jet algorithms, it is experimentally attractive because of its inherent resiliance against backgrounds of heavy-ion collisions.

Lung ultrasound surface wave elastography for assessing instititial lung disease

Lung ultrasound surface wave elastography (LUSWE) is a novel noninvasive technique for measuring superficial lung tissue stiffness. The purpose of this study was to translate LUSWE for assessing patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and various connective diseases including systemic sclerosis (SSc).In this study, LUSWE was used to measure the surface wave speed of lung at 100 Hz, 150 Hz and 200 Hz through six intercostal lung spaces for 91 patients with ILD and 30 healthy control subjects. In addition, skin viscoelasticity was measured at both forearms and upper arms for patients and controls. The surface wave speeds of patients' lungs were significantly higher than those of control subjects for the six intercostal spaces and the three excitation frequencies. Patient skin elasticity and viscosity were significantly higher than those of control subjects for the four locations on the arm. In dividing ILD patients into two groups, ILD patients with SSc and ILD patients without SSc, significant differences between each patient group with the control group were found for both the lung and skin.No significant differences were found between the two patients group, although there were some differences at a few locations and at 100 Hz. LUSWE may be useful for assessing ILD and SSc and screening early stage patients.

r-Instance Learning for Missing People Tweets Identification

The number of missing people (i.e., people who get lost) greatly increases in recent years. It is a serious worldwide problem, and finding the missing people consumes a large amount of social resources. In tracking and finding these missing people, timely data gathering and analysis actually play an important role. With the development of social media, information about missing people can get propagated through the web very quickly, which provides a promising way to solve the problem. The information in online social media is usually of heterogeneous categories, involving both complex social interactions and textual data of diverse structures. Effective fusion of these different types of information for addressing the missing people identification problem can be a great challenge. Motivated by the multi-instance learning problem and existing social science theory of "homophily", in this paper, we propose a novel r-instance (RI) learning model.

Will pleural fluid affect surface wave speed measurements of the lung using lung ultrasound surface wave elastography: experimental and numerical studies on sponge phantom?

Pleural effusion manifested as compression of pleural fluid on the lung parenchyma, contributing to hypoxemia. Medical procedure such as drainage of plural fluid releases this compression and increase the oxygenation. However, the effect of pleural effusion on the elasticity of lung parenchyma is unknown. By using the lung ultrasound surface wave elastography (LUSWE) and finite element method (FEM), the effect of pleural effusion on the elasticity of superficial lung parenchyma in terms of surface wave speed measurement was evaluated in a sponge phantom study. Different thickness of ultrasound transmission gel simulated as pleural fluid was inserted into a condom which was placed between the sponge and standoff pad. A mechanical shaker was used to generate vibration on the sponge phantom at different frequencies ranging from 100 to 300 Hz while ultrasound transducer was used to capture the motion for measurement of surface wave speed of the sponge. FEM was conducted based on the experimental setup and numerically assess the influence of pleural effusion on the surface wave speed of the sponge. We found the influence of thickness of ultrasound transmission gel was statistically insignificant on the surface wave speed of the sponge at 100 and 150 Hz both from experiments the FEM.

Nodal Loop and Nodal Surface States in Ti3Al Family Materials

Topological metals and semimetals are new states of matter which attract great interest in current research. Here, based on first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis, we propose that the family of titanium-based compounds Ti3X (X=Al, Ga, Sn, Pb) are unexplored topological semimetals. These materials feature the coexistence of a nodal loop and a nodal surface in their low-energy band structure. Taking Ti3Al as an example, we show that the material has an almost ideal nodal loop in the sense that the loop is close to the Fermi level and it is nearly flat in energy with energy variation <0.25 meV. The loop is protected by either one of the two independent symmetries: the combined spacetime inversion symmetry and the mirror reflection symmetry. The nodal surface at the k_z=πplane is guaranteed by the nonsymmorphic screw rotational symmetry and the time reversal symmetry. We discuss the effect of spin-orbit coupling and construct an effective model for describing the nodal loop. Our findings indicate that the Ti3Al family compounds can serve as an excellent material platform for studying new topological phases and particularly the interplay between nodal-loop and nodal-surface fermions.

Investigating the Efficiency of the Beijing Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (BFOSC) of the Xinglong 2.16-m Reflector

The Beijing Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (BFOSC) is one of the most important instruments of the 2.16-m telescope of the Xinglong Observatory. Every year there are ~ 20 SCI-papers published based on the observational data of this telescope. In this work, we have systemically measured the total efficiency of the BFOSC of the 2.16-m reflector, based on the observations of two ESO flux standard stars. We have obtained the total efficiencies of the BFOSC instrument of different grisms with various slit widths in almost all ranges, and analysed the factors which effect the efficiency of telescope and spectrograph. For the astronomical observers, the result will be useful for them to select a suitable slit width, depending on their scientific goals and weather conditions during the observation; For the technicians, the result will help them systemically find out the real efficiency of telescope and spectrograph, and further to improve the total efficiency and observing capacity of the telescope technically.

Hybrid Nodal Loop Metal: Unconventional Magnetoresponse and Material Realization

A nodal loop is formed by band crossing along a one-dimensional closed manifold, with each point on the loop a linear nodal point in the transverse dimensions and can be classified as type-I or type-II depending on the band dispersion. Here, we propose a class of nodal loops composed of both type-I and type-II points, which are hence termed as hybrid nodal loops. Based on firstprinciples calculations, we predict the realization of such loops in the existing electride material Ca2As. For a hybrid loop, the Fermi surface consists of coexisting electron and hole pockets that touch at isolated points for an extended range of Fermi energies, without the need for fine-tuning. This leads to unconventional magnetic responses, including the zero-field magnetic breakdown and the momentum space Klein tunneling observable in the magnetic quantum oscillations, as well as the peculiar anisotropy in the cyclotron resonance.

From Multiple Nodal Chain to Dirac/Weyl Semimetal and Topological Insulator in Ternary Hexagonal Materials

Dirac semimetal (DSM) hosts four-fold degenerate isolated band-crossing points with linear dispersion, around which the quasiparticles resemble the relativistic Dirac Fermions. It can be described by a 4 * 4 massless Dirac Hamiltonian which can be decomposed into a pair of Weyl points or gaped into an insulator. Thus, crystal symmetry is critical to guarantee the stable existence. On the contrary, by breaking crystal symmetry, a DSM may transform into a Weyl semimetal (WSM) or a topological insulator (TI). Here, by taking hexagonal LiAuSe as an example, we find that it is a starfruit shaped multiple nodal chain semimetal in the absence of spin-orbit coupling(SOC). In the presence of SOC, it is an ideal DSM naturally with the Dirac points locating at Fermi level exactly, and it would transform into WSM phase by introducing external Zeeman field or by magnetic doping with rare-earth atom Sm. It could also transform into TI state by breaking rotational symmetry. Our studies show that DSM is a critical point for topological phase transition, and the conclusion can apply to most of the DSM materials, not limited to the hexagonal material LiAuSe.

Learning Social Image Embedding with Deep Multimodal Attention Networks

Learning social media data embedding by deep models has attracted extensive research interest as well as boomed a lot of applications, such as link prediction, classification, and cross-modal search. However, for social images which contain both link information and multimodal contents (e.g., text description, and visual content), simply employing the embedding learnt from network structure or data content results in sub-optimal social image representation. In this paper, we propose a novel social image embedding approach called Deep Multimodal Attention Networks (DMAN), which employs a deep model to jointly embed multimodal contents and link information. Specifically, to effectively capture the correlations between multimodal contents, we propose a multimodal attention network to encode the fine-granularity relation between image regions and textual words. To leverage the network structure for embedding learning, a novel Siamese-Triplet neural network is proposed to model the links among images. With the joint deep model, the learnt embedding can capture both the multimodal contents and the nonlinear network information. Extensive experiments are conducted to investigate the effectiveness of our approach in the applications of multi-label classification and cross-modal search. Compared to state-of-the-art image embeddings, our proposed DMAN achieves significant improvement in the tasks of multi-label classification and cross-modal search.

Type-II nodal loops: theory and material realization

Nodal loop appears when two bands, typically one electron-like and one hole-like, are crossing each other linearly along a one-dimensional manifold in the reciprocal space. Here we propose a new type of nodal loop which emerges from crossing between two bands which are both electron-like (or hole-like) along certain direction. Close to any point on such loop (dubbed as a type-II nodal loop), the linear spectrum is strongly tilted and tipped over along one transverse direction, leading to marked differences in magnetic, optical, and transport responses compared with the conventional (type-I) nodal loops. We show that the compound K4P3 is an example that hosts a pair of type-II nodal loops close to the Fermi level. Each loop traverses the whole Brillouin zone, hence can only be annihilated in pair when symmetry is preserved. The symmetry and topological protections of the loops as well as the associated surface states are discussed.

Coexistence of four-band nodal rings and triply-degenerate nodal points in centrosymmetric metal diborides

Topological metals with protected band-crossing points have been attracting great interest. Here we report novel topological band features in a family of metal diboride materials. Using first- principles calculations, we show that these materials are metallic, and close to Fermi level, there appears coexistence of one pair of nodal rings and one pair of triply-degenerate nodal points (TNPs). The nodal ring here is distinct from the previously studied ones in that its formation requires four entangled bands, not just two as in previous cases, hence it is termed as a four-band nodal ring (FNR). Remarkably, we show that FNR features Dirac-cone-like surface states, in contrast to the usual drumhead surface states for two-band nodal rings. Due to the presence of inversion symmetry, the TNP here is also different from those discussed previously in inversion-asymmetric systems. Especially, when spin-orbit coupling is included, the TNP here transforms into a novel Dirac point that is close to the borderline between the type-I and type-II Dirac point categories. We discuss their respective symmetry protections, and construct effective models for their characterization. The large linear energy range (> 2 eV) in these materials should facilitate the experimental detection of the signatures of these nontrivial band crossings.
