Spin Fluctuations-induced Unconventional Transverse Spin Current in Spin Degenerate Antiferromagnet

Modern magnetic memory technology requires unconventional transverse spin current to achieve deterministic switching of perpendicular magnetization. Spin current in antiferromagnets (AFMs) has been long thought to be trivial as nonmagnets. Recently, a class of spin-splitting AFMs has been shown to be able to generate unconventional spin current for spin-orbit torque (SOT) applications. However, such AFMs requires specific symmetry breaking, and have been largely restricted by the limited material candidates. Here, we reveal universal spin fluctuation-induced unconventional transverse spin current in conventional spin degenerate AFMs at finite temperature by taking collinear (AFM) L10-MnPt as an example. The field-free switching of perpendicular magnetization was achieved via out-of-plane anti-damping-like SOT, leveraging the spin current with both y- and z-spin polarizations in heterostructures with MnPt functioning as spin current source. Based on symmetry analyses and experimental characterizations of current-induced spin torques, we find that the spin current generated by L10-MnPt exhibits anisotropy that varies with the current direction, enforced by the low symmetry magnetic point group when its Néel vector is along [110]. From a fundamental perspective, it would be intriguing to uncover a mechanism underlying the emergence of unconventional spin currents in spin degenerate antiferromagnets, which is highly desirable for spintronic applications.

Engineering of Orbital Hybridization: An Exotic Strategy to Manipulate Orbital Current

Current-induced spin-orbit torque (SOT) plays a crucial role in the next-generation spin-orbitronics. Enhancing its efficiency is both fundamentally and practically interesting and remains a challenge to date. Recently, orbital counterparts of spin effects that do not rely on the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) have been found as an alternative mechanism to realize it. This work highlights the engineering of copper oxidation states for manipulating the orbital current and its torque in the CuO$_x$-based heterostructures. The orbital hybridization and thus the orbital-Rashba-Edelstein effect at the CuO$_x$/Cu interfaces are significantly enhanced by increasing the copper oxidation state, yielding a torque efficiency that is almost ten times larger than the conventional heavy metals. The Cu$_4$O$_3$/Cu interface, rather than the widely accepted CuO/Cu interface, is revealed to account for the enhanced SOT performance in the CuO$_x$-based heterostructures. In addition, the torque efficiency can be alternatively switched between high and low thresholds through the redox reaction. The current results establish an exotic and robust strategy for engineering the orbital current and SOT for spin-orbitronics, which applies to other weak-SOC materials.

MTVHunter: Smart Contracts Vulnerability Detection Based on Multi-Teacher Knowledge Translation

Smart contracts, closely intertwined with cryptocurrency transactions, have sparked widespread concerns about considerable financial losses of security issues. To counteract this, a variety of tools have been developed to identify vulnerability in smart contract. However, they fail to overcome two challenges at the same time when faced with smart contract bytecode: (i) strong interference caused by enormous non-relevant instructions; (ii) missing semantics of bytecode due to incomplete data and control flow dependencies. In this paper, we propose a multi-teacher based bytecode vulnerability detection method, namely Multi-Teacher Vulnerability Hunter (MTVHunter), which delivers effective denoising and missing semantic to bytecode under multi-teacher guidance. Specifically, we first propose an instruction denoising teacher to eliminate noise interference by abstract vulnerability pattern and further reflect in contract embeddings. Secondly, we design a novel semantic complementary teacher with neuron distillation, which effectively extracts necessary semantic from source code to replenish the bytecode. Particularly, the proposed neuron distillation accelerate this semantic filling by turning the knowledge transition into a regression task. We conduct experiments on 229,178 real-world smart contracts that concerns four types of common vulnerabilities. Extensive experiments show MTVHunter achieves significantly performance gains over state-of-the-art approaches.

All-electric mimicking synaptic plasticity based on the noncollinear antiferromagnetic device

Neuromorphic computing, which seeks to replicate the brain's ability to process information, has garnered significant attention due to its potential to achieve brain-like computing efficiency and human cognitive intelligence. Spin-orbit torque (SOT) devices can be used to simulate artificial synapses with non-volatile, high-speed processing and endurance characteristics. Nevertheless, achieving energy-efficient all-electric synaptic plasticity emulation using SOT devices remains a challenge. We chose the noncollinear antiferromagnetic Mn3Pt as spin source to fabricate the Mn3Pt-based SOT device, leveraging its unconventional spin current resulting from magnetic space breaking. By adjusting the amplitude, duration, and number of pulsed currents, the Mn3Pt-based SOT device achieves nonvolatile multi-state modulated by all-electric SOT switching, enabling emulate synaptic behaviors like excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP), inhibitory postsynaptic potential (IPSP), long-term depression (LTD) and the long-term potentiation (LTP) process. In addition, we show the successful training of an artificial neural network based on such SOT device in recognizing handwritten digits with a high recognition accuracy of 94.95 %, which is only slightly lower than that from simulations (98.04 %). These findings suggest that the Mn3Pt-based SOT device is a promising candidate for the implementation of memristor-based brain-inspired computing systems.

Lead-free Hybrid Perovskite: An Efficient Room Temperature Spin Generator via Large Interfacial Rashba effect

Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (HOIP) demonstates great potential for developing flexible and wearable spintronic devices, by serving as spin sources via the bulk Rashba effect (BRE). However, the practical application of BRE in 2D HOIP faces huge challenges, particularly due to the toxicity of lead, which is crucial for achieving large spin-orbit coupling, and the restrictions in 2D HOIP candidates to meet specific symmetry-breaking requirements. To overcome these obstacles, we design a strategy to exploit the interfacial Rashba effect (IRE) of lead-free 2D HOIP (C6H5CH2CH2NH3)2CuCl4 (PEA-CuCl), manifesting as an efficient spin generator at room temperature. IRE of PEA-CuCl originates from the large orbital hybridization at the interface between PEA-CuCl and adjacent ferromagnetic layers. Spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance measurements further quantify a large Rashba effective field of 14.04 Oe per 10^11 A m-2, surpassing those of lead-based HOIP and traditional all-inorganic heterojunctions with noble metals. Our lead-free 2D HOIP PEA-CuCl, which harnesses large IRE for spin generation, is efficient, nontoxic, and economic, offering huge promise for future flexible and wearable spintronic devices.

Thickness and temperature dependent damping in La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_{3}$ epitaxial films

The damping of La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) epitaxial films as a function of thickness at different temperatures was studied. The competition between two scattering types (\r{ho}-like and σ-like) with entirely distinct thickness and temperature dependencies resulted in complicated damping behavior. The behavior of σ-like damping in LSMO films is consistent with the behavior in magnetic metal films. However, because \r{ho}-like damping is sensitive to the fine electron structure near the Fermi surface, the distortion of the oxygen octahedra controlled by the film thickness is an important factor in controlling the damping. Our study demonstrates that the complexity of damping in LSMO epitaxial films is a consequence of strong-correlation effects, which are characteristic of complex transition-metal oxides.

Benchmark modeling and 3D applications of solidification and macro-segregation based on an operator-splitting and fully decoupled scheme with term-wise matrix assembly

The solidification and macro-segregation problem involving unsteady multi-physics and multi-phase fields is typically a complex process with mass, momentum, heat, and species transfers among solid, mushy, and liquid phase regions. The quantitative prediction of phase change, chemical heterogeneities, and multi-phase and multi-component flows plays critical roles in many natural scenarios and industrial applications that involve many disciplines, like material, energy, and even planet science. In view of this, some scholars and research institutions have called for more contributors to join the benchmark analysis of solidification and segregation problems. Our work proposes an operator-splitting and matrix-based method to avoid non-linear systems. Also, the combination of vectorization and forward equation-based matrix assembly techniques enhances the implementability of extensions of 3D applications. Lastly, the novel scheme is well validated through a bunch of 2D and 3D benchmark cases. The numerical results also illustrate that this method can ensure accurate prediction and adequately capture the physical details of phenomena caused by the solutally and thermally driven flow, which include channel segregation, the formation of freckles, edge effect, aspect ratio effect, and 3D effect.

An energy-stable Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics discretization of the Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard model for incompressible two-phase flows

Varieties of energy-stable numerical methods have been developed for incompressible two-phase flows based on the Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard (NSCH) model in the Eulerian framework, while few investigations have been made in the Lagrangian framework. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is a popular mesh-free Lagrangian method for solving complex fluid flows. In this paper, we present a pioneering study on the energy-stable SPH discretization of the NSCH model for incompressible two-phase flows. We prove that this SPH method inherits mass and momentum conservation and energy dissipation properties at the fully discrete level. With the projection procedure to decouple the momentum and continuity equations, the numerical scheme meets the divergence-free condition. Some numerical experiments are carried out to show the performance of the proposed energy-stable SPH method for solving the two-phase NSCH model. The inheritance of mass and momentum conservation and the energy dissipation properties are verified numerically.

SEFormer: Structure Embedding Transformer for 3D Object Detection

Effectively preserving and encoding structure features from objects in irregular and sparse LiDAR points is a key challenge to 3D object detection on point cloud. Recently, Transformer has demonstrated promising performance on many 2D and even 3D vision tasks. Compared with the fixed and rigid convolution kernels, the self-attention mechanism in Transformer can adaptively exclude the unrelated or noisy points and thus suitable for preserving the local spatial structure in irregular LiDAR point cloud. However, Transformer only performs a simple sum on the point features, based on the self-attention mechanism, and all the points share the same transformation for value. Such isotropic operation lacks the ability to capture the direction-distance-oriented local structure which is important for 3D object detection. In this work, we propose a Structure-Embedding transFormer (SEFormer), which can not only preserve local structure as traditional Transformer but also have the ability to encode the local structure. Compared to the self-attention mechanism in traditional Transformer, SEFormer learns different feature transformations for value points based on the relative directions and distances to the query point. Then we propose a SEFormer based network for high-performance 3D object detection. Extensive experiments show that the proposed architecture can achieve SOTA results on Waymo Open Dataset, the largest 3D detection benchmark for autonomous driving. Specifically, SEFormer achieves 79.02% mAP, which is 1.2% higher than existing works. We will release the codes.

Observation of spin splitting torque in a collinear antiferromagnet RuO2

Current-induced spin torques provide efficient data writing approaches for magnetic memories. Recently, the spin splitting torque (SST) was theoretically predicted (R. González-Hernández et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 127701 (2021)), which combines advantages of conventional spin transfer torque (STT) and spin-orbit torque (SOT) as well as enables controllable spin polarization. Here we provide the experimental evidence of SST in collinear antiferromagnet RuO2 films. The spin current direction is found to be correlated to the crystal orientation of RuO2 and the spin polarization direction is dependent on (parallel to) the Néel vector. These features are quite characteristic for the predicted SST. Our finding not only present a new member for the spin torques besides traditional STT and SOT, but also proposes a promising spin source RuO2 for spintronics.

Cluster magnetic octupole induced out-of-plane spin polarization in antiperovskite antiferromagnet

Out-of-plane spin polarization σ_z has attracted increasing interests of researchers recently, due to its potential in high-density and low-power spintronic devices. Noncollinear antiferromagnet (AFM), which has unique 120° triangular spin configuration, has been discovered to possess σ_z. However, the physical origin of σ_z in noncollinear AFM is still not clear, and the external magnetic field-free switching of perpendicular magnetic layer using the corresponding σ_z has not been reported yet. Here, we use the cluster magnetic octupole in antiperovskite AFM Mn3SnN to demonstrate the generation of σ_z. σ_z is induced by the precession of carrier spins when currents flow through the cluster magnetic octupole, which also relies on the direction of the cluster magnetic octupole in conjunction with the applied current. With the aid of σ_z, current induced spin-orbit torque (SOT) switching of adjacent perpendicular ferromagnet is realized without external magnetic field. Our findings present a new perspective to the generation of out-of-plane spin polarizations via noncollinear AFM spin structure, and provide a potential path to realize ultrafast high-density applications.

Absence of Spin Hall Magnetoresistance in Pt/(CoNi)n multilayers

We systematically studied the magnetoresistance effect in a Pt/(CoNi)n multilayer system with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and the fcc (111) texture. The angular dependence of magnetoresistance, including high-order cosine terms, was observed in a plane perpendicular to the electrical current; this was attributed to the geometrical-size effects caused by crystal symmetry, the ordered arrangement of grains, and the anisotropic interface magnetoresistance effect caused by the breaking of the symmetry at interfaces. Based on the accuracy of our experimental results, the magnitude of spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in Pt/(CoNi)n was expected to be below $1\times10^{-4}$. However, on evaluating the spin Hall angle of $\geq$ 0.07 for Pt using spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance measurements, the theoretical magnitude of SMR in our samples was estimated to exceed $7\times10^{-4}$. This absence of SMR in the experimental results can be explained by the Elliott-Yafet spin relaxation of itinerant electrons in the ferromagnetic metal, which indicates that the boundary conditions of the spin current in the heavy metal/ferromagnetic insulator may not be applicable to all-metallic heterostructures.

ADMP: An Adversarial Double Masks Based Pruning Framework For Unsupervised Cross-Domain Compression

Despite the recent progress of network pruning, directly applying it to the Internet of Things (IoT) applications still faces two challenges, i.e. the distribution divergence between end and cloud data and the missing of data label on end devices. One straightforward solution is to combine the unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) technique and pruning. For example, the model is first pruned on the cloud and then transferred from cloud to end by UDA. However, such a naive combination faces high performance degradation. Hence this work proposes an Adversarial Double Masks based Pruning (ADMP) for such cross-domain compression. In ADMP, we construct a Knowledge Distillation framework not only to produce pseudo labels but also to provide a measurement of domain divergence as the output difference between the full-size teacher and the pruned student. Unlike existing mask-based pruning works, two adversarial masks, i.e. soft and hard masks, are adopted in ADMP. So ADMP can prune the model effectively while still allowing the model to extract strong domain-invariant features and robust classification boundaries. During training, the Alternating Direction Multiplier Method is used to overcome the binary constraint of {0,1}-masks. On Office31 and ImageCLEF-DA datasets, the proposed ADMP can prune 60% channels with only 0.2% and 0.3% average accuracy loss respectively. Compared with the state of art, we can achieve about 1.63x parameters reduction and 4.1% and 5.1% accuracy improvement.

Progressive DNN Compression: A Key to Achieve Ultra-High Weight Pruning and Quantization Rates using ADMM

Weight pruning and weight quantization are two important categories of DNN model compression. Prior work on these techniques are mainly based on heuristics. A recent work developed a systematic frame-work of DNN weight pruning using the advanced optimization technique ADMM (Alternating Direction Methods of Multipliers), achieving one of state-of-art in weight pruning results. In this work, we first extend such one-shot ADMM-based framework to guarantee solution feasibility and provide fast convergence rate, and generalize to weight quantization as well. We have further developed a multi-step, progressive DNN weight pruning and quantization framework, with dual benefits of (i) achieving further weight pruning/quantization thanks to the special property of ADMM regularization, and (ii) reducing the search space within each step. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the superior performance compared with prior work. Some highlights: (i) we achieve 246x,36x, and 8x weight pruning on LeNet-5, AlexNet, and ResNet-50 models, respectively, with (almost) zero accuracy loss; (ii) even a significant 61x weight pruning in AlexNet (ImageNet) results in only minor degradation in actual accuracy compared with prior work; (iii) we are among the first to derive notable weight pruning results for ResNet and MobileNet models; (iv) we derive the first lossless, fully binarized (for all layers) LeNet-5 for MNIST and VGG-16 for CIFAR-10; and (v) we derive the first fully binarized (for all layers) ResNet for ImageNet with reasonable accuracy loss.

A Novel Energy Stable Numerical Scheme for Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard Two-phase Flow Model with Variable Densities and Viscosities

A novel numerical scheme including time and spatial discretization is offered for coupled Cahn-Hilliard and Navier-Stokes governing equation sys-tem in this paper. Variable densities and viscosities are considered in the nu-merical scheme. By introducing an intermediate velocity in both Cahn-Hilliard equation and momentum equation, the scheme can keep discrete energy law. A decouple approach based on pressure stabilization is implemented to solve the Navier-Stokes part, while the stabilization or convex splitting method is adopt-ed for the Cahn-Hilliard part. This novel scheme is totally decoupled, linear, unconditionally energy stable for incompressible two-phase flow diffuse inter-face model. Numerical results demonstrate the validation, accuracy, robustness and discrete energy law of the proposed scheme in this paper.
