Physics-data-driven intelligent optimization for large-scale meta-devices

Meta-devices have gained significant attention and have been widely utilized in optical systems for focusing and imaging, owing to their lightweight, high-integration, and exceptional-flexibility capabilities. However, based on the assumption of local phase approximation, traditional design method neglect the local lattice coupling effect between adjacent meta-atoms, thus harming the practical performance of meta-devices. Using physics-driven or data-driven optimization algorithms can effectively solve the aforementioned problems. Nevertheless, both of the methods either involve considerable time costs or require a substantial amount of data sets. Here, we propose a physics-data-driven approach based "intelligent optimizer" that enables us to adaptively modify the sizes of the studied meta-atom according to the sizes of its surrounding ones. Such a scheme allows to mitigate the undesired local lattice coupling effect, and the proposed network model works well on thousands of datasets with a validation loss of 3*10-3. Experimental results show that the 1-mm-diameter metalens designed with the "intelligent optimizer" possesses a relative focusing efficiency of 93.4% (as compared to ideal focusing) and a Strehl ratio of 0.94. In contrast to the previous inverse design method, our method significantly boosts designing efficiency with five orders of magnitude reduction in time. Our design approach may sets a new paradigm for devising large-scale meta-devices.

The existence of invariant curves of a kind of almost periodic twist mappings

In this paper, we are concerned with the existence of invariant curves of the planar twist mappings where the perturbations are almost periodic. As an application, the existence of almost periodic solutions and the boundedness of all solutions for pendulum-type equations with an almost periodic external force are proved.

Pulmonary Fissure Segmentation in CT Images Based on ODoS Filter and Shape Features

Priori knowledge of pulmonary anatomy plays a vital role in diagnosis of lung diseases. In CT images, pulmonary fissure segmentation is a formidable mission due to various of factors. To address the challenge, an useful approach based on ODoS filter and shape features is presented for pulmonary fissure segmentation. Here, we adopt an ODoS filter by merging the orientation information and magnitude information to highlight structure features for fissure enhancement, which can effectively distinguish between pulmonary fissures and clutters. Motivated by the fact that pulmonary fissures appear as linear structures in 2D space and planar structures in 3D space in orientation field, an orientation curvature criterion and an orientation partition scheme are fused to separate fissure patches and other structures in different orientation partition, which can suppress parts of clutters. Considering the shape difference between pulmonary fissures and tubular structures in magnitude field, a shape measure approach and a 3D skeletonization model are combined to segment pulmonary fissures for clutters removal. When applying our scheme to 55 chest CT scans which acquired from a publicly available LOLA11 datasets, the median F1-score, False Discovery Rate (FDR), and False Negative Rate (FNR) respectively are 0.896, 0.109, and 0.100, which indicates that the presented method has a satisfactory pulmonary fissure segmentation performance.

Novel coronavirus pneumonia lesion segmentation in CT images

Background: The 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been spread widely in the world, causing a huge threat to people's living environment. Objective: Under computed tomography (CT) imaging, the structure features of COVID-19 lesions are complicated and varied greatly in different cases. To accurately locate COVID-19 lesions and assist doctors to make the best diagnosis and treatment plan, a deep-supervised ensemble learning network is presented for COVID-19 lesion segmentation in CT images. Methods: Considering the fact that a large number of COVID-19 CT images and the corresponding lesion annotations are difficult to obtained, a transfer learning strategy is employed to make up for the shortcoming and alleviate the overfitting problem. Based on the reality that traditional single deep learning framework is difficult to extract COVID-19 lesion features effectively, which may cause some lesions to be undetected. To overcome the problem, a deep-supervised ensemble learning network is presented to combine with local and global features for COVID-19 lesion segmentation. Results: The performance of the proposed method was validated in experiments with a publicly available dataset. Compared with manual annotations, the proposed method acquired a high intersection over union (IoU) of 0.7279. Conclusion: A deep-supervised ensemble learning network was presented for coronavirus pneumonia lesion segmentation in CT images. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by visual inspection and quantitative evaluation. Experimental results shown that the proposed mehtod has a perfect performance in COVID-19 lesion segmentation.

Relevance-Aware Anomalous Users Detection in Social Network via Graph Neural Network

Anomalous users detection in social network is an imperative task for security problems. Motivated by the great power of Graph Neural Networks(GNNs), many current researches adopt GNN-based detectors to reveal the anomalous users. However, the increasing scale of social activities, explosive growth of users and manifold technical disguise render the user detection a difficult task. In this paper, we propose an innovate Relevance-aware Anomalous Users Detection model (RAU-GNN) to obtain a fine-grained detection result. RAU-GNN first extracts multiple relations of all types of users in social network, including both benign and anomalous users, and accordingly constructs the multiple user relation graph. Secondly, we employ relevance-aware GNN framework to learn the hidden features of users, and discriminate the anomalous users after discriminating. Concretely, by integrating Graph Convolution Network(GCN) and Graph Attention Network(GAT), we design a GCN-based relation fusion layer to aggregate initial information from different relations, and a GAT-based embedding layer to obtain the high-level embeddings. Lastly, we feed the learned representations to the following GNN layer in order to consolidate the node embedding by aggregating the final users' embeddings. We conduct extensive experiment on real-world datasets. The experimental results show that our approach can achieve high accuracy for anomalous users detection.

An Anomaly Event Detection Method Based on GNN Algorithm for Multi-data Sources

Anomaly event detection is crucial for critical infrastructure security(transportation system, social-ecological sector, insurance service, government sector etc.) due to its ability to reveal and address the potential cyber-threats in advance by analysing the data(messages, microblogs, logs etc.) from digital systems and networks. However, the convenience and applicability of smart devices and the maturity of connected technology make the social anomaly events data multi-source and dynamic, which result in the inadaptability for multi-source data detection and thus affect the critical infrastructure security. To effectively address the proposed problems, in this paper, we design a novel anomaly detection method based on multi-source data. First, we leverage spectral clustering algorithm for feature extraction and fusion of multiple data sources. Second, by harnessing the power of deep graph neural network(Deep-GNN), we perform a fine-gained anomaly social event detection, revealing the threatening events and guarantee the critical infrastructure security. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework outperforms other baseline anomaly event detection methods and shows high tracking accuracy, strong robustness and stability.

Two-dimensional InSe/WS$_2$ heterostructure with enhanced optoelectronic performance in the visible region

Two-dimensional (2D) InSe and WS$_2$ exhibit promising characteristics for optoelectronic and photoelectrochemical applications, e.g. photodetection and photocatalytic water splitting. However, both of them have poor absorption of visible light due to wide band gaps. 2D InSe has high electron mobility but low hole mobility, while 2D WS$_2$ is on the opposite. Here, we design a 2D heterostructure composed of their monolayers and study its optoelectronic properties by first-principles calculations. Our results show that the heterostructure has a direct band gap of 2.19 eV, which is much smaller than those of the monolayers mainly due to a type-II band alignment: the valence band maximum and the conduction band minimum of monolayer InSe are lower than those of monolayer WS$_2$, respectively. The visible-light absorption is enhanced considerably, e.g. about fivefold (threefold) increase at the wavelength of 490 nm in comparison to monolayer InSe (WS$_2$). The type-II band alignment also facilitates the spatial separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, i.e., electrons (holes) reside preferably in the InSe (WS$_2$) layer. The two layers complement each other in carrier mobilities of the heterostructure: the photogenerated electrons and holes inherit the large mobilities from the InSe and WS$_2$ monolayers, respectively.

Parallel Coordinate Descent Newton Method for Efficient $\ell_1$-Regularized Minimization

The recent years have witnessed advances in parallel algorithms for large scale optimization problems. Notwithstanding demonstrated success, existing algorithms that parallelize over features are usually limited by divergence issues under high parallelism or require data preprocessing to alleviate these problems. In this work, we propose a Parallel Coordinate Descent Newton algorithm using multidimensional approximate Newton steps (PCDN), where the off-diagonal elements of the Hessian are set to zero to enable parallelization. It randomly partitions the feature set into $b$ bundles/subsets with size of $P$, and sequentially processes each bundle by first computing the descent directions for each feature in parallel and then conducting $P$-dimensional line search to obtain the step size. We show that: (1) PCDN is guaranteed to converge globally despite increasing parallelism; (2) PCDN converges to the specified accuracy $ε$ within the limited iteration number of $T_ε$, and $T_ε$ decreases with increasing parallelism (bundle size $P$). Using the implementation technique of maintaining intermediate quantities, we minimize the data transfer and synchronization cost of the $P$-dimensional line search. For concreteness, the proposed PCDN algorithm is applied to $\ell_1$-regularized logistic regression and $\ell_2$-loss SVM. Experimental evaluations on six benchmark datasets show that the proposed PCDN algorithm exploits parallelism well and outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in speed without losing accuracy.

Stochastic Dynamic Optimal Power Flow in Distribution Network with Distributed Renewable Energy and Battery Energy Storage

The penetration of distributed renewable energy (DRE) greatly raises the risk of distribution network operation such as peak shaving and voltage stability. Battery energy storage (BES) has been widely accepted as the most potential application to cope with the challenge of high penetration of DRE. To cope with the uncertainties and variability of DRE, a stochastic day-ahead dynamic optimal power flow (DOPF) and its algorithm are proposed. The overall economy is achieved by fully considering the DRE, BES, electricity purchasing and active power losses. The rainflow algorithm-based cycle counting method of BES is incorporated in the DOPF model to capture the cell degradation, greatly extending the expected BES lifetime and achieving a better economy. DRE scenarios are generated to consider the uncertainties and correlations based on the Copula theory. To solve the DOPF model, we propose a Lagrange relaxation-based algorithm, which has a significantly reduced complexity with respect to the existing techniques. For this reason, the proposed algorithm enables much more scenarios incorporated in the DOPF model and better captures the DRE uncertainties and correlations. Finally, numerical studies for the day-ahead DOPF in the IEEE 123-node test feeder are presented to demonstrate the merits of the proposed method. Results show that the actual BES life expectancy of the proposed model has increased to 4.89 times compared with the traditional ones. The problems caused by DRE are greatly alleviated by fully capturing the uncertainties and correlations with the proposed method.

The reducibility of quasi-periodic linear Hamiltonian systems and its application to Hill's equation

In this paper, we consider the reducibility of the quasi-periodic linear Hamiltonian system $$\dot{x}=(A+\varepsilon Q(t))x, $$ where $A$ is a constant matrix with possible multiple eigenvalues, $Q(t)$ is analytic quasi-periodic with respect to $t$, and $\varepsilon$ is a sufficiently small parameter. Under some non-resonant conditions, it is proved that, for most sufficiently small $\varepsilon$, the Hamiltonian system can be reduced to a constant coefficient Hamiltonian system by means of a quasi-periodic symplectic change of variables with the same basic frequencies as $Q(t)$. Application to quasi-periodic Hill's equation is also given.

Boundedness of solutions in impulsive Duffing equations with polynomial potentials and $C^{1}$ time dependent coefficients

In this paper, we are concerned with the impulsive Duffing equation $$ x''+x^{2n+1}+\sum_{i=0}^{2n}x^{i}p_{i}(t)=0,\ t\neq t_{j}, $$ with impulsive effects $x(t_{j}+)=x(t_{j}-),\ x'(t_{j}+)=-x'(t_{j}-),\ j=\pm1,\pm2,\cdots$, where the time dependent coefficients $p_i(t)\in C^1(\mathbb{S}^1)\ (n+1\leq i\leq 2n)$ and $p_i(t)\in C^0(\mathbb{S}^1)\ (0\leq i\leq n)$ with $\mathbb{S}^1=\mathbb{R}/\mathbb{Z}$. If impulsive times are 1-periodic and $t_{2}-t_{1}\neq\frac{1}{2}$ for $0< t_{1}<t_{2}<1$, basing on a so-called large twist theorem recently established by X. Li, B. Liu and Y. Sun in \cite{XLi}, we find large invariant curves diffeomorphism to circles surrounding the origin and going to infinity, which confines the solutions in its interior and therefore leads to the boundedness of these solutions. Meanwhile, it turns out that the solutions starting at $t=0$ on the invariant curves are quasiperiodic.

Persistence of invariant tori in integrable Hamiltonian systems under almost periodic perturbations

In this paper we are concerned with the existence of invariant tori in nearly integrable Hamiltonian systems \begin{equation*} H=h(y)+f(x,y,t), \end{equation*} where $y\in D\subseteq\mathbb{R}^n$ with $D$ being a closed bounded domain, $x\in \mathbb{T}^n$, $f(x,y,t)$ is a real analytic almost periodic function in $t$ with the frequency ${ω}=(\cdots,{ω}_λ,\cdots)_{λ\in \mathbb{Z}}\in \mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{Z}}$. As an application, we will prove the existence of almost periodic solutions and the boundedness of all solutions for the second order differential equations with superquadratic potentials depending almost periodically on time.

The stability of equilibrium solutions of periodic Hamiltonian systems in the case of degeneracy

In this paper we are concerned with the stability of equilibrium solutions of periodic Hamiltonian systems with one degree of freedom in the case of degeneracy, which means that the characteristic exponents of the linearized system have zero real part, and the high order terms must be considered to solve the stability problem. For almost all degenerate cases, sufficient conditions for the stability and instability are obtained.

Boundedness in forced isochronous oscillators

In this paper we are concerned with the boundedness of all solutions for the forced isochronous oscillator $$x''+V'(x)+g(x)=f(t),$$ where $V$ is a so-called $T$-isochronous potential, the perturbation $g$ is assumed to be bounded, and the $2π$-periodic function $f(t)$ is smooth. Using the resonant small twist theorem and averaged small twist theorem established by Ortega, we will prove the boundedness of all solutions for the above forced isochronous oscillator in the resonant and non-resonant cases under some reasonable assumptions, respectively.

The linearization of periodic Hamiltonian systems with one degree of freedom under the Diophantine condition

In this paper we are concerned with the periodic Hamiltonian system with one degree of freedom, where the origin is a trivial solution. We assume that the corresponding linearized system at the origin is elliptic, and the characteristic exponents of the linearized system are $\pm iω$ with $ω$ be a Diophantine number, moreover if the system is formally linearizable, then it is analytically linearizable. As a result, the origin is always stable in the sense of Liapunov in this case.

Entire solutions to reaction diffusion equations

In this paper, we first use the super-sub solution method to prove the local exponential asymptotic stability of some entire solutions to reaction diffusion equations, including the bistable and monostable cases. In the bistable case, we not only obtain the similar asymptotic stability result given by Yagisita in 2003, but also simplify his proof. For the monostable case, it is the first time to discuss the local asymptotic stability of entire solutions. Next, we will discuss the asymptotic behavior of entire solutions of bistable equations as $t\rightarrow+\infty$, since the other side was completely known. Here, our results are obtained by use of the asymptotic stability of constant solutions and pairs of diverging traveling front solutions of these equations, instead of constructing the corresponding super-sub solutions as usual.
