DSGPT: Domain-Specific Generative Pre-Training of Transformers for Text Generation in E-commerce Title and Review Summarization

We propose a novel domain-specific generative pre-training (DS-GPT) method for text generation and apply it to the product titleand review summarization problems on E-commerce mobile display.First, we adopt a decoder-only transformer architecture, which fitswell for fine-tuning tasks by combining input and output all to-gether. Second, we demonstrate utilizing only small amount of pre-training data in related domains is powerful. Pre-training a languagemodel from a general corpus such as Wikipedia or the CommonCrawl requires tremendous time and resource commitment, andcan be wasteful if the downstream tasks are limited in variety. OurDSGPT is pre-trained on a limited dataset, the Chinese short textsummarization dataset (LCSTS). Third, our model does not requireproduct-related human-labeled data. For title summarization task, the state of art explicitly uses additional background knowledgein training and predicting stages. In contrast, our model implic-itly captures this knowledge and achieves significant improvementover other methods, after fine-tuning on the public Taobao.comdataset. For review summarization task, we utilize JD.com in-housedataset, and observe similar improvement over standard machinetranslation methods which lack the flexibility of fine-tuning. Ourproposed work can be simply extended to other domains for a widerange of text generation tasks.

Nuclear reaction measurements of 80.5 MeV/u 12C beam bombarding on C, W, Cu, Au, Pb targets

To get the energy spectrum distribution and cross-sections of emitted light charged particles and explore the nuclear reaction, a experiment of 80.5 MeV/u 12C beam bombarding on C, W, Cu, Au, Pb targets has been carried out at Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Science. 30, 60 and 120 degree relative to the incident beam have been detected using three sets of telescope detectors. The results indicate that there is a tendency that heavier targets have larger double differential cross-sections and the emitted fragments are more likely to go forward. Besides, the decrease of cross-sections of fragments producing with the increasing emitted angles may follow some kind of pattern.

Design of a 200-MHz Continuous-Wave Radio Frequency Quadrupole Accelerator for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

A high-intensity continuous wave (CW) radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator is designed for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). The transmission efficiency of a 20-mA proton beam accelerated from 30 keV to 2.5 MeV can reach 98.7% at an operating frequency of 200 MHz. The beam dynamics has good tolerance to errors. By comparing the high-frequency parameters of quadrilateral and octagonal RFQ cross-sections, the quadrilateral structure of the four-vane cavity is selected owing to its multiple advantages, such as a smaller cross section at the same frequency and easy processing. In addition, tuners and undercuts are designed to tune the frequency of the cavity and achieve a flat electric field distribution along the cavity. In this paper, the beam dynamics simulation and electromagnetic design are presented in detail.

Theoretical Conditions for Field-free Magnetization Switching Induced by Spin-orbit Torque and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction

Recently, it was demonstrated that field-free switching could be achieved by combining spin-orbit torque (SOT) and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). However, this mechanism only occurs under certain conditions which have not been well discussed. In this letter, it is found that the ratio of domain wall width to diameter of nanodots could be utilized as a criteria for judging this mechanism. Influences of different magnetic parameters are studied, including exchange constant, DMI magnitude and field-like toque, etc. Besides, we reveal the importance of the shrinkage of magnetic domain wall surface energy for metastable states. Our work provides guidelines to the experiments on the DMI-induced field-free magnetization switching, and also offers a new way for the design of SOT-based memory or logic circuits.

Modulation of field-like spin orbit torque in heavy metal / ferromagnet heterostructure

Recent studies rediscovered the crucial role of field-like spin orbit torque (SOT) in nanosecond-timescale SOT dynamics. However, there is not yet an effective way to control its relative amplitude. Here, we experimentally modulate the field-like SOT in W/CoFeB/MgO trilayers through tuning the interfacial spin accumulation. By performing spin Hall magnetoresistance measurement, we find that the CoFeB with enhanced spin dephasing, either generated from larger layer thickness or from proper annealing, can distinctly boost the spin absorption and enhance the interfacial spin mixing conductance G_r. While the damping-like torque efficiency increases with G_r, the field-like torque efficiency turns out to decrease with it. The results suggest that the interfacial spin accumulation, which largely contributes to a field-like torque, is reduced by higher interfacial spin transparency. Our work shows a new path to further improve the performance of SOT-based magnetic devices.

Spin-torque memristors based on perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions with a hybrid chiral texture

Spin-torque memristors were proposed in 2009, which could provide fast, low-power and infinite memristive behavior for large-density non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing. However, the strict requirements of combining high magnetoresistance, stable intermediate states and spin-polarized current switching in a single device pose difficulties in physical implementation. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a nanoscale spin-torque memristor based on a perpendicular-anisotropy magnetic tunnel junction with a CoFeB/W/CoFeB composite free layer structure. Its tunneling magnetoresistance is higher than 200%, and memristive behavior can be realized by spin-transfer torque switching. Memristive states are maintained by robust domain wall pinning around clusters of W atoms, where nanoscale vertical chiral spin textures could be formed through the competition between opposing Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions and the fluctuating interlayer coupling caused by the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction between the two CoFeB free layers. Spike-timing-dependent plasticity is also demonstrated in this device.

Phase-Change Control of Interlayer Exchange Coupling

Changing the interlayer exchange coupling between magnetic layers in-situ is a key issue of spintronics, as it allows for the optimization of properties that are desirable for applications, including magnetic sensing and memory. In this paper, we utilize the phase change material VO2 as a spacer layer to regulate the interlayer exchange coupling between ferromagnetic layers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The successful growth of ultra-thin (several nanometres) VO2 films is realized by sputtering at room temperature, which further enables the fabrication of [Pt/Co]2/VO2/[Co/Pt]2 multilayers with distinct interfaces. Such a magnetic multilayer exhibits an evolution from antiferromagnetic coupling to ferromagnetic coupling as the VO2 undergoes a phase change. The underlying mechanism originates from the change in the electronic structure of the spacer layer from an insulating to a metallic state. As a demonstration of phase change spintronics, this work may reveal the great potential of material innovations for next-generation spintronics.

Continuous-variable QKD over 50km commercial fiber

The continuous-variable version of quantum key distribution (QKD) offers the advantages (over discrete-variable systems) of higher secret key rates in metropolitan areas as well as the use of standard telecom components that can operate at room temperature. An important step in the real-world adoption of continuous-variable QKD is the deployment of field tests over commercial fibers. Here we report two different field tests of a continuous-variable QKD system through commercial fiber networks in Xi'an and Guangzhou over distances of 30.02 km (12.48 dB) and 49.85 km (11.62 dB), respectively. We achieve secure key rates two orders-of-magnitude higher than previous field test demonstrations. This is achieved by developing a fully automatic control system to create stable excess noise and by applying a rate-adaptive reconciliation protocol to achieve a high reconciliation efficiency with high success probability. Our results pave the way to achieving continuous-variable QKD in a metropolitan setting.

Enhanced Interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction in annealed Pt/Co/MgO structures

The interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (iDMI) is attracting great interests for spintronics. An iDMI constant larger than 3 mJ/m^2 is expected to minimize the size of skyrmions and to optimize the DW dynamics. In this study, we experimentally demonstrate an enhanced iDMI in Pt/Co/X/MgO ultra-thin film structures with perpendicular magnetization. The iDMI constants were measured using a field-driven creep regime domain expansion method. The enhancement of iDMI with an atomically thin insertion of Ta and Mg is comprehensively understood with the help of ab-initio calculations. Thermal annealing has been used to crystallize the MgO thin layer for improving tunneling magneto-resistance (TMR), but interestingly it also provides a further increase of the iDMI constant. An increase of the iDMI constant up to 3.3 mJ/m^2 is shown, which could be promising for the scaling down of skyrmion electronics.

Low spin-polarization in the heavy metal\ferromagnet structures detected through the domain wall motion by synchronized magnetic field and current

CoFeB is a very soft material, in which Domain Wall (DW) can be moved easily under a weak magnetic field. However, it is very difficult to move DWs in Ta\CoFeB\MgO nanowires with interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy through a spin-polarized current, and this limits the perspectives of racetrack memory driven by the current-in-plane mechanism. To investigate this phenomenon, we performed experiments of DW velocity measurement by applying a magnetic field and a current simultaneously. Working in the precessional regime, we have been able to see a very important effect of the spin-polarized current, which allows evaluating the polarization rate of the charge carriers. An unexpected quite low spin polarization rate down to 0.26 have been obtained, which can explain the low efficiency of DW motion induced by the spin-polarized current. Possible reasons for this low rate are analyzed, such as the spin relaxation in the Ta layer.

Domain Wall Motion Driven by Laplace Pressure in CoFeB-MgO Nanodots with Perpendicular Anisotropy

We have studied the magnetization reversal of CoFeB-MgO nanodots with perpendicular anisotropy for size ranging from w=400 nm to 1 μm. Contrary to previous experiments, the switching field distribution is shifted toward lower magnetic fields as the size of the elements is reduced with a mean switching field varying as 1/w. We show that this mechanism can be explained by the nucleation of a pinned magnetic domain wall (DW) at the edges of the nanodots where damages are introduced by the patterning process. As the surface tension (Laplace pressure) applied on the DW increases when reducing the size of the nanodots, we demonstrate that the depinning field to reverse the entire elements varies as 1/w. These results suggest that the presence of DWs has to be considered in the switching process of nanoscale elements and open a path toward scalable spintronic devices.

Tuning the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction in Pt/Co/MgO heterostructures through MgO thickness

The interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in the ferromagnetic/heavy metal ultra-thin film structures , has attracted a lot of attention thanks to its capability to stabilize Neel-type domain walls (DWs) and magnetic skyrmions for the realization of non-volatile memory and logic devices. In this study, we demonstrate that magnetic properties in perpendicularly magnetized Ta/Pt/Co/MgO/Pt heterostructures, such as magnetization and DMI, can be significantly influenced through both the MgO and the Co ultrathin film thickness. By using a field-driven creep regime domain expansion technique, we find that non-monotonic tendencies of DMI field appear when changing the thickness of MgO and the MgO thickness corresponding to the largest DMI field varies as a function of the Co thicknesses. We interpret this efficient control of DMI as subtle changes of both Pt/Co and Co/MgO interfaces, which provide a method to investigate ultra-thin structures design to achieve skyrmion electronics.

Skyrmions in magnetic tunnel junctions

In this work, we demonstrate that skyrmions can be nucleated in the free layer of a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions (DMI) by a spin-polarized current with the assistance of stray fields from the pinned layer. The size, stability and number of created skyrmions can be tuned by either the DMI strength or the stray field distribution. The interaction between the stray field and the DMI effective field is discussed. A device with multi-level tunneling magnetoresistance is proposed, which could pave the ways for skyrmion-MTJ-based multi-bit storage and artificial neural network computation. Our results may facilitate the efficient nucleation and electrical detection of skyrmions.

Magnetoresistive sensors based on the elasticity of domain walls

Magnetic sensors based on the magnetoresistance effects have a promising application prospect due to their excellent sensitivity and advantages in terms of the integration. However, competition between higher sensitivity and larger measuring range remains a problem. Here, we propose a novel mechanism for the design of magnetoresistive sensors: probing the perpendicular field by detecting the expansion of the elastic magnetic Domain Wall (DW) in the free layer of a spin valve or a magnetic tunnel junction. Performances of devices based on this mechanism, such as the sensitivity and the measuring range can be tuned by manipulating the geometry of the device, without changing the intrinsic properties of the material, thus promising a higher integration level and a better performance. The mechanism is theoretically explained based on the experimental results. Two examples are proposed and their functionality and performances are verified via micromagnetic simulation.

Finite-size analysis of continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution

We study the impact of the finite-size effect on the continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (CV-MDI QKD) protocol, mainly considering the finite-size effect on the parameter estimation procedure. The central-limit theorem and maximum likelihood estimation theorem are used to estimate the parameters. We also analyze the relationship between the number of exchanged signals and the optimal modulation variance in the protocol. It is proved that when Charlie's position is close to Bob, the CV-MDI QKD protocol has the farthest transmission distance in the finite-size scenario. Finally, we discuss the impact of finite-size effects related to the practical detection in the CV-MDI QKD protocol. The overall results indicate that the finite-size effect has a great influence on the secret key rate of the CV-MDI QKD protocol and should not be ignored.

Direct observation of domain wall surface tension by deflating or inflating a magnetic bubble

The surface energy of a magnetic Domain Wall (DW) strongly affects its static and dynamic behaviours. However, this effect was seldom directly observed and many related phenomena have not been well understood. Moreover, a reliable method to quantify the DW surface energy is still missing. Here, we report a series of experiments in which the DW surface energy becomes a dominant parameter. We observed that a semicircular magnetic domain bubble could spontaneously collapse under the Laplace pressure induced by DW surface energy. We further demonstrated that the surface energy could lead to a geometrically induced pinning when the DW propagates in a Hall cross or from a nanowire into a nucleation pad. Based on these observations, we developed two methods to quantify the DW surface energy, which could be very helpful to estimate intrinsic parameters such as Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interactions (DMI) or exchange stiffness in magnetic ultra-thin films.

Monitoring method for neutron flux for a spallation target in an accelerator driven sub-critical system

In this paper, we study a monitoring method for neutron flux for the spallation target used in an accelerator driven sub-critical (ADS) system, where a spallation target located vertically at the centre of a sub-critical core is bombarded vertically by high-energy protons from an accelerator. First, by considering the characteristics in the spatial variation of neutron flux from the spallation target, we propose a multi-point measurement technique, i.e. the spallation neutron flux should be measured at multiple vertical locations. To explain why the flux should be measured at multiple locations, we have studied neutron production from a tungsten target bombarded by a 250 MeV-proton beam with Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results indicate that the neutron flux at the central location is up to three orders of magnitude higher than the flux at lower locations. Secondly, we have developed an effective technique in order to measure the spallation neutron flux with a fission chamber (FC), by establishing the relation between the fission rate measured by FC and the spallation neutron flux. Since this relation is linear for a FC, a constant calibration factor is used to derive the neutron flux from the measured fission rate. This calibration factor can be extracted from the energy spectra of spallation neutrons. Finally, we have evaluated the proposed calibration method for a FC in the environment of an ADS system. The results indicate that the proposed method functions very well.

Perspectives of Racetrack Memory for Large-Capacity On-Chip Memory: From Device to System

Current-induced domain wall motion (CIDWM) is regarded as a promising way towards achieving emerging high-density, high-speed and low-power non-volatile devices. Racetrack memory is an attractive spintronic memory based on this phenomenon, which can store and transfer a series of data along a magnetic nanowire. However, storage capacity issue is always one of the most serious bottlenecks hindering its application for practical systems. This paper focuses on the potential of racetrack memory towards large capacity. The investigations covering from device level to system level have been carried out. Various alternative mechanisms to improve the capacity of racetrack memory have been proposed and elucidated, e.g. magnetic field assistance, chiral DW motion and voltage-controlled flexible DW pinning. All of them can increase nanowire length, allowing enhanced feasibility of large-capacity racetrack memory. By using SPICE compatible racetrack memory electrical model and commercial CMOS 28 nm design kit, mixed simulations are performed to validate their functionalities and analyze their performance. System level evaluations demonstrate the impact of capacity improvement on overall system. Compared with traditional SRAM based cache, racetrack memory based cache shows its advantages in terms of execution time and energy consumption.
