Two-loop corrections to partition function of Pohlmeyer-reduced theory for AdS_5 x S^5 superstring

Pohlmeyer reduction of AdS_5 x S^5 superstring leads to a set of equations of motion following from an action containing a bosonic Sp(2,2) x Sp(4)/[SU(2)]^4 gauged WZW term, an integrable potential and a fermionic part coupling bosons from the two factors. The original superstring and the reduced model are in direct correspondence at the classical level but their relation at the quantum level remains an open question. As was found earlier, the one-loop partition functions of the two theories computed on the respective classical backgrounds match; here we explore the fate of this relation at the two-loop level. We consider the example of the reduced theory solution corresponding to the long folded spinning string in AdS. The logarithm of the AdS_5 x S^5 superstring partition function computed on the spinning string background is known to be proportional to the universal scaling function which depends on the string tension ~ ł^{1/2} where ł=λis `t Hooft coupling. Its "quantum" part is f(ł) = a1 + ł^{-1/2} a2 + ... where the one-loop term is a1 = - 3 \ln 2 and the two-loop term is minus the Catalan's constant, a2=-K. We find that the counterpart of f(ł) in the reduced theory is f'(k) =a1' + 2 k^{-1} a2' + ..., where k is the coupling of the reduced theory. Here the one-loop coefficient is the same as in the string theory, a1'= a1, while the two-loop one is a2' =a2 - 1/4 (a1)^2. Remarkably, the first Catalan's constant term here matches the string theory result if we identify the two couplings as k= 2ł^{1/2}. Nevertheless, the presence of the additional (a1)^2 ~ (\ln 2)^2 term implies that a relation between the two quantum partition functions (if any) is not a simple equality. Similar results are found in the case of AdS_3 x S^3 superstring theory where a1= - 2 \ln 2 and a2=0, while in the corresponding reduced theory a1'=a1, a2'= a2- 1/4 (a1)^2.

Pohlmeyer-reduced form of string theory in AdS_5 x S^5: semiclassical expansion

We consider the Pohlmeyer-reduced formulation of the AdS_5 x S^5 superstring. It is constructed by introducing new variables which are algebraically related to supercoset current components so that the Virasoro conditions are automatically solved. The reduced theory is a gauged WZW model supplemented with an integrable potential and fermionic terms that ensure its UV finiteness. The original superstring theory and its reduced counterpart are closely related at the classical level, and we conjecture that they remain related at the quantum level as well, in the sense that their quantum partition functions evaluated on respective classical solutions are equal. We provide evidence for the validity of this conjecture at the one-loop level, i.e. at the first non-trivial order of the semiclassical expansion near several classes of classical solutions.

High Power Model Fabrication of Biperiodic L-Support Disk-and-Washer Structure

The high power test model of biperiodic L-support disk-and- washer was fabricated. Among some trouble in the fabrication, the main one was a vacuum leak in a brazing process. The repair test of the leak showed a good result; four units were recovered out of five leak units (recover rate 80%). While an accelerating mode frequency was tuned at an operating frequency of 2857 MHz by squeezing method, a coupling mode frequency of 2847MHz and the 3.4% field flatness (peak to peak ratio) were achieved.

DFQ--Double Frequency RFQ

RFQ with a harmonic higher order quadrupole mode is studied. Assuming that we superpose a higher order mode with twice the frequency of the fundamental mode, a sawtooth waveform is approximated. In such a case, the bunching function is enhanced while the transverse stability is modified. Second order longitudinal harmonic component is also required to enable the effect.

Study of Multiple-Beam RFQ

There are applications, which require MeV-range multiple-beams consisting of a large number of identical highly packed beamlets. The multiple-beam RFQ (MB-RFQ) arranged as a matrix array of longitudinal rod-electrodes is appropriate candidate. A configuration of MB-RFQ resonator should ensure identical quadrupole fields in every accelerating channel. The MB-RFQ resonators based on TEM transmission lines are studied. The resonators are designed by a periodical multiplication of a 4-rod unit cell in transverse direction. To understand fields of resonator the normal mode technique is applied. Novel configurations of MB-RFQ resonators based on these normal modes are generated. The RF properties of resonators are verified with computer simulations done with MAFIA code. Beam dynamics study for the initial 400-keV MB-RFQ has been performed using PARMTEQ code. The MB-RFQ parameters and the results of beam dynamics simulations are presented. The calculated beam transmission is 33% at injection of 50-keV, 20mA deuteron beam.
