Signals from Galactic Center and Supergravity Models

We analyse the effect of the compression of the dark matter due to the infall of baryons to the galactic center on the gamma-ray flux. In addition, we also consider the effect of non-universal supersymmetric soft terms. This analysis shows that neutralino dark matter annihilation can give rise to signals largely reachable by future experiments like GLAST. This is a remarkable result if we realise that direct detection experiments will only be able to cover a small region of the parameter space. We have also studied the recent HESS data implying a neutralino heavier than 12 TeV. Because of such a heavy neutralino, it is not natural to find solutions in the SUGRA framework. Nevertheless we have carried out a quite model-independent analysis, and found the conditions required on the particle physics side to fit the HESS data thanks to dark matter annihilation.

Dark matter and Colliders searches in the MSSM

We study the complementarity between dark matter experiments (direct detection and indirect detections) and accelerator facilities (the CERN LHC and a $\sqrt{s}= 1$ TeV $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider) in the framework of the constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We show how non--universality in the scalar and gaugino sectors can affect the experimental prospects to discover the supersymmetric particles. The future experiments will cover a large part of the parameter space of the MSSM favored by WMAP constraint on the relic density, but there still exist some regions beyond reach for some extreme (fine tuned) values of the supersymmetric parameters. Whereas the Focus Point region characterized by heavy scalars will be easily probed by experiments searching for dark matter, the regions with heavy gauginos and light sfermions will be accessible more easily by collider experiments. More informations on both supersymmetry and astrophysics parameters can be thus obtained by correlating the different signals.

Adiabatic compression and indirect detection of supersymmetric dark matter

Recent developments in the modelling of the dark matter distribution in our Galaxy point out the necessity to consider some physical processes to satisfy observational data. In particular, models with adiabatic compression, which include the effect of the baryonic gas in the halo, increase significantly the dark matter density in the central region of the Milky Way. On the other hand, the non-universality in scalar and gaugino sectors of supergravity models can also increase significantly the neutralino annihilation cross section. We show that the combination of both effects gives rise to a gamma-ray flux arising from the Galactic Center largely reachable by future experiments like GLAST. We also analyse in this framework the EGRET excess data above 1 GeV, as well as the recent data from CANGAROO and HESS. The analysis has been carried out imposing the most recent experimental constraints, such as the lower bound on the Higgs mass, the \bsg branching ratio, and the muon $g-2$. In addition, the recently improved upper bound on $B(B_s \to μ^+ μ^-)$ has also been taken into account. The astrophysical (WMAP) bounds on the dark matter density have also been imposed on the theoretical computation of the relic neutralino density through thermal production.

Gamma-Ray Excess from the Galactic Center and Supergravity Models

We analyse the effect of the compression of the dark matter due to the infall of baryons to the galactic center on the gamma-ray flux. In addition, we also consider the effect of non-universal supersymmetric soft terms. This analysis shows that neutralino dark matter annihilation can give rise to signals largely reachable by future experiments like GLAST. This is a remarkable result if we realise that direct detection experiments will only be able to cover a small region of the parameter space. Actually, in this SUGRA framework we have also been able to fit present excess from EGRET and CANGAROO using different non-universal scenarios, and even fit the data from both experiments with only one scenario.

Astroparticle and Collider Physics as complementary sources for the study of string motivated supergravity models

We provide a study of the phenomenology of heterotic orbifold compactifications scenarii within the context of supergravity effective theories. Our investigation focuses on those models where the soft Lagrangian is dominated by loop contributions to the various soft supersymmetry breaking parameters, giving a mixed anomaly-gravity mediation model. We consider the pattern of masses that are governed by these soft terms and investigate the implications of certain indirect constraints on supersymmetric models. In this framework, we point out how the complementarity between direct and indirect detection of a neutralino Dark Matter, and futur accelerator prospects can reduce considerably the parameter space of such models

Gamma-ray detection from neutralino annihilation in non--universal SUGRA scenarios

We analyze the indirect detection of neutralino dark matter in supergravity scenarios with non-universal soft scalar and gaugino masses. In particular, the gamma-ray flux arising from the galactic center due to neutralino annihilation is computed. In important regions of the parameter space it can be increased significantly (about two orders of magnitude) with respect to the universal scenario. This result is compared with the sensitivity of current and planned experiments, such as the satellite-based detectors EGRET and GLAST and the ground-based atmospheric telescope HESS. For example, for $\tanβ< 35$ the sensitivity region of GLAST and HESS can only be reached in non-universal scenarios.

A comparison between direct and indirect dark matter search

We carry out a comparison between different kinds of experiments for the detection of neutralino dark matter. In particular, we compare the theoretical predictions for the direct detection of these particles, through their elastic scattering on target nuclei through nuclear recoils, with those for their indirect detection through the gamma rays produced by their annihilation in the galactic center. For the comparison we pay special attention to points which will be testable by very sensitive experiments, such as e.g. EDELWEISS II and GENIUS for direct detection, and GLAST for indirect detection. We perform the analysis in the framework of a general SUGRA theory, allowing the presence of non-universal soft scalar and gaugino masses in the parameter space. As a conclusion, we find that indirect detection experiments will be able to test larger regions of the parameter space than direct detection ones.

Annihilation Radiation of Dark Matter in Heterotic Orbifold Models

Direct and indirect dark matter searches can potentially lead to the discovery of Supersymmetry. In the specific context of heterotic orbifold compactification scenarios, it is even possible to get some clues on the SUSY breaking mechanism of the more fundamental underlying theory. In this paper, we investigate the prospects for indirect detection of neutralino dark matter via gamma-ray (continuum and line) and synchrotron radiation from the Galactic center, in the context of AMSB scenarios in an effective heterotic framework, which constitutes a consistent SUSY model between high energy theory and low energy phenomenology.

Les Houches "Physics at TeV Colliders 2003" Beyond the Standard Model Working Group: Summary Report

The work contained herein constitutes a report of the ``Beyond the Standard Model'' working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 26 May--6 June, 2003. The research presented is original, and was performed specifically for the workshop. Tools for calculations in the minimal supersymmetric standard model are presented, including a comparison of the dark matter relic density predicted by public codes. Reconstruction of supersymmetric particle masses at the LHC and a future linear collider facility is examined. Less orthodox supersymmetric signals such as non-pointing photons and R-parity violating signals are studied. Features of extra dimensional models are examined next, including measurement strategies for radions and Higgs', as well as the virtual effects of Kaluza Klein modes of gluons. An LHC search strategy for a heavy top found in many little Higgs model is presented and finally, there is an update on LHC $Z'$ studies.

Phenomenological Aspects of Heterotic Effective Models At One Loop

We provide a study of the phenomenology of orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string within the context of supergravity effective theories. Our investigation focuses on those models where the soft Lagrangian is dominated by loop contributions to the various soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. We consider the pattern of masses that are governed by these soft terms and investigate the implications of certain indirect constraints on supersymmetric models, such as flavor-changing neutral currents, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the density of thermal relic neutralinos.

SDECAY: a Fortran code for the decays of the supersymmetric particles in the MSSM

We present the Fortran code SDECAY, which calculates the decay widths and branching ratios of all the supersymmetric particles in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, including higher order effects. Besides the usual two-body decays of fermions and gauginos and the three-body decays of charginos, neutralinos and gluinos, we have also implemented the three-body decays of top squarks, and even the four-body decays of the top squark; the important loop-induced decay modes are also included. The QCD corrections to the two-body decays involving strongly interacting particles and the dominant components of the electroweak corrections to all decay modes are implemented.

Infrared Quasi Fixed Point Structure in Extended Yukawa Sectors and Application to R-parity Violation

We investigate one-loop renormalization group evolutions of extended sectors of Yukawa type couplings. It is shown that Landau Poles which usually provide necessary low energy upper bounds that saturate quickly with increasing initial value conditions, lead in some cases to the opposite behaviour: some of the low energy couplings decrease and become vanishingly small for increasingly large initial conditions. We write down the general criteria for this to happen in typical situations, highlighting a concept of {\sl repulsive} quasi-fixed points, and illustrate the case both within a two-Yukawa toy model as well as in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation. In the latter case we consider the theoretical upper bounds on the various couplings, identifying regimes where $λ_{kl3}, λ'_{kkk}, λ''_{3kl}$ are dynamically suppressed due to the Landau Pole. We stress the importance of considering a large number of couplings simultaneously. This leads altogether to a phenomenologically interesting seesaw effect in the magnitudes of the various R-parity violating couplings, complementing and in some cases improving the existing limits.

Scalar top quarks at the Run II of the Tevatron in the high \tanβregime

We discuss the decays of the lightest scalar top quark $\tilde{t}_1$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model and show that the final state $bτν_τχ_1^0$, where $χ_1^0$ is the lightest supersymmetric particle, can be dominant in a significant area of the parameter space, in particular in the high $\tan β$ regime. We then analyze the prospects for discovering relatively light scalar top quarks accessible at the Tevatron Run II in the $bτ$ and missing energy channel.

Chargino and Neutralino Decays Revisited

We perform a comprehensive analysis of the decays of charginos and neutralinos in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model where the neutralino $χ_1^0$ is assumed to be the lightest supersymmetric particle. We focus, in particular, on the three-body decays of the next-to-lightest neutralino and the lightest chargino into the lightest neutralino and fermion-antifermion pairs and include vector boson, Higgs boson and sfermion exchange diagrams, where in the latter contribution the full mixing in the third generation is included. The radiative corrections to the heavy fermion and SUSY particle masses will be also taken into account. We present complete analytical formulae for the Dalitz densities and the integrated partial decay widths in the massless fermion case, as well as the expressions of the differential decay widths including the masses of the final fermions and the polarization of the decaying charginos and neutralinos. We then discuss these decay modes, in particular in scenarios where the parameter $\tan β$ is large and in models without universal gaugino masses at the Grand Unification scale where some new decay channels, such as decays into gluinos and $q\bar{q}$ pairs, open up.

Comment on ``Infrared Fixed Point Structure in Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Baryon and Lepton Number Violation"

We reconsider the Infrared Quasi Fixed Points which were studied recently in the literature in the context of the Baryon and Lepton number violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (hep-ph/0011274). The complete analysis requires further care and reveals more structure than what was previously shown. The formalism we develop here is quite general, and can be readily applied to a large class of models.

General one-loop renormalization group evolutions and electroweak symmetry breaking in the (M+1)SSM

We study analytically the general features of electroweak symmetry breaking in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model extended by one Higgs singlet. The exact analytical forms of the renormalization group evolutions of the Yukawa couplings and of the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters are derived to one-loop order. They allow on one hand controllable approximations in closed analytical form, and on the other a precise study of the behaviour of infrared quasi fixed point regimes which we carry out. Some of these regimes are shown to be phenomenologically inconsistent, leading to too small an effective $μ$-parameter. The remaining ones serve as a suitable benchmark to understand analytically some salient aspects, often noticed numerically in the literature, in relation to the electroweak symmetry breaking in this model. The study does not need any specific assumption on $\tan β$ or on boundary conditions for the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters, thus allowing a general insight into the sensitivity of the low energy physics to high energy assumptions.

Three-Body Decays of Top and Bottom Squarks

We investigate the decays of third generation scalar quarks in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, focusing on the three-body modes. We calculate the partial widths of the decays of heavier top and bottom squarks into the lighter ones and a fermion pair [through virtual vector boson, Higgs boson or gaugino exchanges] and the partial widths of the three-body decays of both top squarks into bottom quarks and a pair of fermion and scalar fermion [we consider the case of lighter $\tildeτ$ or $\tilde{b}$ states] and into a bottom quark, the lightest neutralino and a $W$ or a charged Higgs boson $H^\pm$. Some of these decay modes are shown to have substantial branching ratios in some areas of the parameter space.
