Symmetric quiver varieties and critical stable envelopes

Symmetric quiver varieties with potentials are natural generalizations of Nakajima quiver varieties, and their equivariant critical cohomologies provide more flexible settings for geometric representation theory and enumerative geometry. In this paper, we study their geometric properties and show that they behave like universally deformed Nakajima quiver varieties. Based on this, we provide a new proof of the existence of critical stable envelopes on them. Following an idea of Nakajima, we give a sheaf theoretic interpretation of critical stable envelopes by the hyperbolic restriction in the affinization of symmetric quiver varieties. The associativity of hyperbolic restrictions implies the triangle lemma of critical stable envelopes.

Shifted quantum groups via critical stable envelopes

Given a symmetric quiver with potential, we develop a geometric construction of shifted Yangians acting on the critical cohomologies of antidominantly framed quiver varieties with extended potentials, using the $R$-matrices constructed from critical stable envelopes. We relate such Reshetikhin type Yangians to Drinfeld type Yangians arising from critical cohomological Hall algebras. Several detailed examples, including the trivial, Jordan, and tripled Jordan quivers are explicitly computed. For symmetric quiver varieties with potentials, by using the smallness property of their affinization maps, we derive explicit formulas for quantum multiplication by divisors in terms of Casimir elements of the associated Lie (super)algebras, extending results from Nakajima quiver varieties to the critical setting. A similar formula in the antidominantly framed case is also obtained, which includes Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb C^3$ as examples.

Stable envelopes for critical loci

This is the first in a sequence of papers devoted to stable envelopes in critical cohomology and critical $K$-theory for symmetric GIT quotients with potentials and related geometries, and their applications to geometric representation theory and enumerative geometry. In this paper, we construct critical stable envelopes and establish their general properties, including compatibility with dimensional reductions, specializations, Hall products, and other geometric constructions. In particular, for tripled quivers with canonical cubic potentials, the critical stable envelopes reproduce those on Nakajima quiver varieties. These set up foundations for applications in subsequent papers.

$K$-theoretic pullbacks for Lagrangians on derived critical loci

Given a regular function $\phi$ on a smooth stack, and a $(-1)$-shifted Lagrangian $M$ on the derived critical locus of $\phi$, under fairly general hypotheses, we construct a pullback map from the Grothendieck group of coherent matrix factorizations of $\phi$ to that of coherent sheaves on $M$. This map satisfies a functoriality property with respect to the composition of Lagrangian correspondences, as well as the usual bivariance and base-change properties. We provide three applications of the construction, one in the definition of quantum $K$-theory of critical loci (Landau-Ginzburg models), paving the way to generalize works of Okounkov school from Nakajima quiver varieties to quivers with potentials, one in establishing a degeneration formula for $K$-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas theory of local Calabi-Yau 4-folds, the other in confirming a $K$-theoretic version of Joyce-Safronov conjecture.

A degeneration formula of Donaldson-Thomas theory on local Calabi-Yau 4-folds

We define relative Donaldson-Thomas invariants of local log Calabi-Yau 4-folds, under the assumption that the derived Hilbert scheme on the anti-canonical divisor is a derived critical locus. We prove a degeneration formula and apply it to compute zero dimensional invariants on $\mathbb{C}^4$ and on any local curve. This verifies a conjecture proposed by the first author and Kool.

A Donaldson-Thomas crepant resolution conjecture on Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Let $G$ be a finite subgroup of $\mathrm{SU}(4)$ whose elements have age not larger than one. In the first part of this paper, we define $K$-theoretic stable pair invariants on the crepant resolution of the affine quotient $\mathbb{C}^4/G$, and conjecture closed formulae for their generating series, expressed in terms of the root system of $G$. In the second part, we define degree zero Donaldson-Thomas invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-orbifolds, develop a vertex formalism that computes the invariants in the toric case and conjecture closed formulae for the quotient stacks $[\mathbb{C}^4/\mathbb{Z}_r]$, $[\mathbb{C}^4/\mathbb{Z}_2\times \mathbb{Z}_2]$. Combining these two parts, we formulate a crepant resolution correspondence which relates the above two theories.

Quasimaps to quivers with potentials

This paper is concerned with a non-compact GIT quotient of a vector space, in the presence of an abelian group action and an equivariant regular function (potential) on the quotient. We define virtual counts of quasimaps from prestable curves to the critical locus of the potential, and prove a gluing formula in the formalism of cohomological field theories. The main examples studied in this paper is when the above setting arises from quivers with potentials, where the above construction gives quantum correction to the equivariant Chow homology of the critical locus. Following similar ideas as in quasimaps to Nakajima quiver varieties studied by the Okounkov school, we analyse vertex functions in several examples, including Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb{C}^3$, moduli spaces of perverse coherent systems on the resolved conifold, and a quiver which defines higher $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-spin chains. Bethe equations are calculated in these cases. The construction in the present paper is based on the theory of gauged linear sigma models as well as shifted symplectic geometry of Pantev, To\"en, Vaquie and Vezzosi, and uses the virtual pullback formalism of symmetric obstruction theory of Park, which arises from the recent development of Donaldson-Thomas theory of Calabi-Yau 4-folds.

$K$-theoretic DT/PT correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Recently, Nekrasov discovered a new "genus" for Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb{C}^4$. We conjecture a DT/PT correspondence for Nekrasov genera for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds. We verify our conjecture in several cases using a vertex formalism. Taking a certain limit of the equivariant parameters, we recover the cohomological DT/PT correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds recently conjectured by the first two authors. Another limit gives a dimensional reduction to the $K$-theoretic DT/PT correspondence for toric 3-folds conjectured by Nekrasov-Okounkov. As an application of our techniques, we find a conjectural formula for the generating series of $K$-theoretic stable pair invariants of the local resolved conifold. Upon dimensional reduction to the resolved conifold, we recover a formula which was recently proved by Kononov-Okounkov-Osinenko.

Stable pairs and Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants on holomorphic symplectic 4-folds

As an analogy to Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on Calabi-Yau 3-folds, Klemm-Pandharipande defined Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants of a Calabi-Yau 4-fold $X$ using Gromov-Witten theory. When $X$ is holomorphic symplectic, Gromov-Witten invariants vanish and one can consider the corresponding reduced theory. In a companion work, we propose a definition of Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants for such a reduced theory. In this paper, we give them a sheaf theoretic interpretation via moduli spaces of stable pairs.

Curve counting via stable objects in derived categories of Calabi-Yau 4-folds

In our previous paper with Maulik, we proposed a conjectural Gopakumar-Vafa (GV) type formula for the generating series of stable pair invariants on Calabi-Yau (CY) 4-folds. The purpose of this paper is to give an interpretation of the above GV type formula in terms of wall-crossing phenomena in the derived category. We introduce invariants counting LePotier's stable pairs on CY 4-folds, and show that they count certain stable objects in D0-D2-D8 bound states in the derived category. We propose a conjectural wall-crossing formula for the generating series of our invariants, which recovers the conjectural GV type formula. Examples are computed for both compact and toric cases to support our conjecture.

Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants of holomorphic symplectic 4-folds

Using reduced Gromov-Witten theory, we define new invariants which capture the enumerative geometry of curves on holomorphic symplectic 4-folds. The invariants are analogous to the BPS counts of Gopakumar and Vafa for Calabi-Yau 3-folds, Klemm and Pandharipande for Calabi-Yau 4-folds, Pandharipande and Zinger for Calabi-Yau 5-folds. We conjecture that our invariants are integers and give a sheaf-theoretic interpretation in terms of reduced $4$-dimensional Donaldson-Thomas invariants of one-dimensional stable sheaves. We check our conjectures for the product of two $K3$ surfaces and for the cotangent bundle of $\mathbb{P}^2$. Modulo the conjectural holomorphic anomaly equation, we compute our invariants also for the Hilbert scheme of two points on a $K3$ surface. This yields a conjectural formula for the number of isolated genus $2$ curves of minimal degree on a very general hyperkähler $4$-fold of $K3^{[2]}$-type. The formula may be viewed as a $4$-dimensional analogue of the classical Yau-Zaslow formula concerning counts of rational curves on $K3$ surfaces. In the course of our computations, we also derive a new closed formula for the Fujiki constants of the Chern classes of tangent bundles of both Hilbert schemes of points on $K3$ surfaces and generalized Kummer varieties.

Counting perverse coherent systems on Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Nagao-Nakajima introduced counting invariants of stable perverse coherent systems on small resolutions of Calabi-Yau 3-folds and determined them on the resolved conifold. Their invariants recover DT/PT invariants and Szendröi's non-commutative invariants in some chambers of stability conditions. In this paper, we study an analogue of their work on Calabi-Yau 4-folds. We define counting invariants for stable perverse coherent systems using primary insertions and compute them in all chambers of stability conditions. We also study counting invariants of local resolved conifold $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^1}(-1,-1,0)$ defined using torus localization and tautological insertions. We conjecture a wall-crossing formula for them, which upon dimensional reduction recovers Nagao-Nakajima's wall-crossing formula on resolved conifold.

Tautological stable pair invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Let $X$ be a Calabi-Yau 4-fold and $D$ a smooth divisor on it. We consider tautological complex associated with $L=\mathcal{O}_X(D)$ on the moduli space of Le Potier stable pairs and define its counting invariant by integrating the Euler class against the virtual class. We conjecture a formula for their generating series expressed using genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of $D$ and genus one Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants of $X$, which we verify in several examples. When $X$ is the local resolved conifold, our conjecture reproduces a conjectural formula of Cao-Kool-Monavari in the PT chamber. In the JS chamber, we completely determine the invariants and confirm one of our previous conjectures.

Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds via descendent insertions

The Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds (which are non-trivial only for genus zero and one) are defined by Klemm-Pandharipande from Gromov-Witten theory, and their integrality is conjectured. In a previous work of Cao-Maulik-Toda, $\mathrm{DT}_4$ invariants with primary insertions on moduli spaces of one dimensional stable sheaves are used to give a sheaf theoretical interpretation of the genus zero GV type invariants. In this paper, we propose a sheaf theoretical interpretation of the genus one GV type invariants using descendent insertions on the above moduli spaces. The conjectural formula in particular implies nontrivial constraints on genus zero GV type (equivalently GW) invariants of CY 4-folds which can be proved by the WDVV equation.

Curve counting and DT/PT correspondence for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Recently, Cao-Maulik-Toda defined stable pair invariants of a compact Calabi-Yau 4-fold $X$. Their invariants are conjecturally related to the Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants of $X$ defined using Gromov-Witten theory by Klemm-Pandharipande. In this paper, we consider curve counting invariants of $X$ using Hilbert schemes of curves and conjecture a DT/PT correspondence which relates these to stable pair invariants of $X$. After providing evidence in the compact case, we define analogous invariants for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds using a localization formula. We formulate a vertex formalism for both theories and conjecture a relation between the (fully equivariant) DT/PT vertex, which we check in several cases. This relation implies a DT/PT correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds with primary insertions.

Stable pair invariants of local Calabi-Yau 4-folds

In 2008, Klemm-Pandharipande defined Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants of a Calabi-Yau 4-fold $X$ using Gromov-Witten theory. Recently, Cao-Maulik-Toda proposed a conjectural description of these invariants in terms of stable pair theory. When $X$ is the total space of the sum of two line bundles over a surface $S$, and all stable pairs are scheme theoretically supported on the zero section, we express stable pair invariants in terms of intersection numbers on Hilbert schemes of points on $S$. As an application, we obtain new verifications of the Cao-Maulik-Toda conjectures for low degree curve classes and find connections to Carlsson-Okounkov numbers. Some of our verifications involve genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants recently determined in the context of the log-local principle by Bousseau-Brini-van Garrel. Finally, using the vertex formalism, we provide a few more verifications of the Cao-Maulik-Toda conjectures when thickened curves contribute and also for the case of local $\mathbb{P}^3$.

Remarks on Kawamata's effective non-vanishing conjecture for manifolds with trivial first Chern classes

Kawamata proposed a conjecture predicting that every nef and big line bundle on a smooth projective variety with trivial first Chern class has nontrivial global sections. We verify this conjecture for several cases, including (i) all hyperkähler varieties of dimension $\leq 6$; (ii) all known hyperkähler varieties except for O'Grady's 10-dimensional example; (iii) general complete intersection Calabi-Yau varieties in certain Fano manifolds (e.g. toric ones). Moreover, we investigate the effectivity of Todd classes of hyperkähler varieties and Calabi-Yau varieties. We prove that the fourth Todd classes are "fakely effective" for all hyperkähler varieties and general complete intersection Calabi-Yau varieties in products of projective spaces.
