Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds via descendent insertions

The Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds (which are non-trivial only for genus zero and one) are defined by Klemm-Pandharipande from Gromov-Witten theory, and their integrality is conjectured. In a previous work of Cao-Maulik-Toda, $\mathrm{DT}_4$ invariants with primary insertions on moduli spaces of one dimensional stable sheaves are used to give a sheaf theoretical interpretation of the genus zero GV type invariants. In this paper, we propose a sheaf theoretical interpretation of the genus one GV type invariants using descendent insertions on the above moduli spaces. The conjectural formula in particular implies nontrivial constraints on genus zero GV type (equivalently GW) invariants of CY 4-folds which can be proved by the WDVV equation.

Curve counting and DT/PT correspondence for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Recently, Cao-Maulik-Toda defined stable pair invariants of a compact Calabi-Yau 4-fold $X$. Their invariants are conjecturally related to the Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants of $X$ defined using Gromov-Witten theory by Klemm-Pandharipande. In this paper, we consider curve counting invariants of $X$ using Hilbert schemes of curves and conjecture a DT/PT correspondence which relates these to stable pair invariants of $X$. After providing evidence in the compact case, we define analogous invariants for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds using a localization formula. We formulate a vertex formalism for both theories and conjecture a relation between the (fully equivariant) DT/PT vertex, which we check in several cases. This relation implies a DT/PT correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds with primary insertions.

Remarks on Kawamata's effective non-vanishing conjecture for manifolds with trivial first Chern classes

Kawamata proposed a conjecture predicting that every nef and big line bundle on a smooth projective variety with trivial first Chern class has nontrivial global sections. We verify this conjecture for several cases, including (i) all hyperkähler varieties of dimension $\leq 6$; (ii) all known hyperkähler varieties except for O'Grady's 10-dimensional example; (iii) general complete intersection Calabi-Yau varieties in certain Fano manifolds (e.g. toric ones). Moreover, we investigate the effectivity of Todd classes of hyperkähler varieties and Calabi-Yau varieties. We prove that the fourth Todd classes are "fakely effective" for all hyperkähler varieties and general complete intersection Calabi-Yau varieties in products of projective spaces.

Genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants for Calabi-Yau 4-folds II: Fano 3-folds

In analogy with the Gopakumar-Vafa (GV) conjecture on Calabi-Yau (CY) 3-folds, Klemm and Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds using Gromov-Witten theory and conjectured their integrality. In a joint work with Maulik and Toda, the author conjectured their genus zero invariants are $\mathrm{DT_4}$ invariants of one dimensional stable sheaves. In this paper, we study this conjecture on the total space of canonical bundle of a Fano 3-fold $Y$, which reduces to a relation between twisted GW and $\mathrm{DT_3}$ invariants on $Y$. Examples are computed for both compact and non-compact Fano 3-folds to support our conjecture.

Stable pairs and Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

As an analogy to Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on CY 3-folds, Klemm-Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on CY 4-folds using GW theory and conjectured their integrality. In this paper, we define stable pair type invariants on CY 4-folds and use them to interpret these GV type invariants. Examples are computed for both compact and non-compact CY 4-folds to support our conjectures.

Counting conics on sextic 4-folds

We study rational curves of degree two on a smooth sextic 4-fold and their counting invariant defined using Donaldson-Thomas theory of Calabi-Yau 4-folds. By comparing it with the corresponding Gromov-Witten invariant, we verify a conjectural relation between them proposed by the author, Maulik and Toda.

Zero-dimensional Donaldson-Thomas invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-folds

We study Hilbert schemes of points on a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 4-fold $X$. We define $\mathrm{DT}_4$ invariants by integrating the Euler class of a tautological vector bundle $L^{[n]}$ against the virtual class. We conjecture a formula for their generating series, which we prove in certain cases when $L$ corresponds to a smooth divisor on $X$. A parallel equivariant conjecture for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds is proposed. This conjecture is proved for smooth toric divisors and verified for more general toric divisors in many examples. Combining the equivariant conjecture with a vertex calculation, we find explicit positive rational weights, which can be assigned to solid partitions. The weighted generating function of solid partitions is given by $\exp(M(q)-1)$, where $M(q)$ denotes the MacMahon function.

Counting zero-dimensional subschemes in higher dimensions

Consider zero-dimensional Donaldson-Thomas invariants of a toric threefold or toric Calabi-Yau fourfold. In the second case, invariants can be defined using a tautological insertion. In both cases, the generating series can be expressed in terms of the MacMahon function. In the first case, this follows from a theorem of Maulik-Nekrasov-Okounkov-Pandharipande. In the second case, this follows from a conjecture of the authors and a (more general $K$-theoretic) conjecture of Nekrasov. In this paper, we consider formal analogues of these invariants in any dimension $d \not \equiv 2 \ \mathrm{mod} \, 4$. The direct analogues of the above-mentioned conjectures fail in general when $d>4$, showing that dimensions 3 and 4 are special. Surprisingly, after appropriate specialization of the equivariant parameters, the conjectures seem to hold in all dimensions.

Genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

In analogy with the Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on CY 3-folds, Klemm and Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds using Gromov-Witten theory and conjectured their integrality. In this paper, we propose a sheaf-theoretic interpretation of their genus zero invariants using Donaldson-Thomas theory on CY 4-folds. More specifically, we conjecture genus zero GV type invariants are $\mathrm{DT_{4}}$ invariants for one-dimensional stable sheaves on CY 4-folds. Some examples are computed for both compact and non-compact CY 4-folds to support our conjectures. We also propose an equivariant version of the conjectures for local curves and verify them in certain cases.

Mukai flops and Plücker type formulas for hyper-Kähler manifolds

We study the intersection theory of complex Lagrangian subvarieties inside holomorphic symplectic manifolds. In particular, we study their behaviour under Mukai flops and give a rigorous proof of the Plücker type formula for Legendre dual subvarieties written down by the second author before. Then we apply the formula to study projective dual varieties in projective spaces.

Donaldson-Thomas theory for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Let $X$ be a compact complex Calabi-Yau 4-fold. Under certain assumptions, we define Donaldson-Thomas type deformation invariants ($DT_{4}$ invariants) by studying moduli spaces of solutions to the Donaldson-Thomas equations on $X$. We also study sheaves counting problems on local Calabi-Yau 4-folds. We relate $DT_{4}$ invariants of $K_{Y}$ to the Donaldson-Thomas invariants of the associated Fano 3-fold $Y$. When the Calabi-Yau 4-fold is toric, we adapt the virtual localization formula to define the corresponding equivariant $DT_{4}$ invariants. We also discuss the non-commutative version of $DT_{4}$ invariants for quivers with relations. Finally, we compute $DT_{4}$ invariants for certain Calabi-Yau 4-folds when moduli spaces are smooth and find a $DT_{4}/GW$ correspondence for $X$. Examples of wall-crossing phenomenon in $DT_{4}$ theory are also given.

Relative Donaldson-Thomas theory for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

Given a complex 4-fold $X$ with an (Calabi-Yau 3-fold) anti-canonical divisor $Y$, we study relative Donaldson-Thomas invariants for this pair, which are elements in the Donaldson-Thomas cohomologies of $Y$. We also discuss gluing formulas which relate relative invariants and $DT_{4}$ invariants for Calabi-Yau 4-folds.

Orientability for gauge theories on Calabi-Yau manifolds

We study orientability issues of moduli spaces from gauge theories on Calabi-Yau manifolds. Our results generalize and strengthen those for Donaldson-Thomas theory on Calabi-Yau manifolds of dimensions 3 and 4. We also prove a corresponding result in the relative situation which is relevant to the gluing problem in DT theory.

Donaldson-Thomas theory for Calabi-Yau four-folds

Let $X$ be a complex four-dimensional compact Calabi-Yau manifold equipped with a Kähler form $ω$ and a holomorphic four-form $Ω$. Under certain assumptions, we define Donaldson-Thomas type deformation invariants by studying the moduli space of the solutions of Donaldson-Thomas equations on the given Calabi-Yau manifold. We also study sheaves counting on local Calabi-Yau four-folds. We relate the sheaves countings over $K_{Y}$ with the Donaldson-Thomas invariants for the associated compact three-fold $Y$. In some very special cases, we prove the DT/GW correspondence for $X$. Finally, we compute the Donaldson-Thomas invariants of certain Calabi-Yau four-folds when the moduli spaces are smooth.
