Holographic Subregion Complexity in General Vaidya Geometry

We investigate general features of the evolution of holographic subregion complexity (HSC) on Vaidya-AdS metric with a general form. The spacetime is dual to a sudden quench process in quantum system and HSC is a measure of the ``difference'' between two mixed states. Based on the subregion CV (Complexity equals Volume) conjecture and in the large size limit, we extract out three distinct stages during the evolution of HSC: the stage of linear growth at the early time, the stage of linear growth with a slightly small rate during the intermediate time and the stage of linear decrease at the late time. The growth rates of the first two stages are compared with the Lloyd bound. We find that with some choices of certain parameter, the Lloyd bound is always saturated at the early time, while at the intermediate stage, the growth rate is always less than the Lloyd bound. Moreover, the fact that the behavior of CV conjecture and its version of the subregion in Vaidya spacetime implies that they are different even in the large size limit.

Entanglement Entropy of Annulus in Holographic Thermalization

The thermalization process of the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) of an annular domain is investigated over the Vaidya-AdS geometry. We numerically determine the Hubeny-Rangamani-Takayanagi (HRT) surface which may be a hemi-torus or two disks, depending on the ratio of the inner radius to the outer radius of the annulus. More importantly, for some fixed ratio of two radii, it undergoes a phase transition or double phase transitions from a hemi-torus configuration to a two-disk configuration, or vice versa, during the thermalization. The occurrence of various phase transitions is determined by the ratio of two radii of the annulus. The rate of entanglement growth is also investigated during the thermal quench. The local maximal rate of entanglement growth occurs in the region with double phase transitions. Finally, if the quench process is fairly slow which may be controlled by the thickness of null shell, the region with double phase transitions vanishes.

Note on quantum entanglement and quantum geometry

In this note we present preliminary study on the relation between the quantum entanglement of boundary states and the quantum geometry in the bulk in the framework of spin networks. We conjecture that the emergence of space with non-zero volume reflects the non-perfectness of the $SU(2)$-invariant tensors. Specifically, we consider four-valent vertex with identical spins in spin networks. It turns out that when $j = 1/2$ and $j = 1$, the maximally entangled $SU(2)$-invariant tensors on the boundary correspond to the eigenstates of the volume square operator in the bulk, which indicates that the quantum geometry of tetrahedron has a definite orientation.

Entanglement of Purification in Holographic Systems

The holographic entanglement of purification (EoP) in AdS$_{4}$ and AdS-RN black hole backgrounds is studied. We develop an algorithm to compute the EoP for bipartite configuration with infinitely long strips. The temperature behavior of EoP is revealed for small, intermediate and large configurations: EoP monotonically increases with the temperature for small configurations; while for intermediate configurations, EoP is configuration-dependent; EoP vanishes for large configurations. Our numerical results verify some important inequalities of EoP, which we also prove geometrically in Poincaré coordinate.

Holographic Subregion Complexity in Einstein-Born-Infeld theory

We numerically investigate the evolution of the holographic subregion complexity during a quench process in Einstein-Born-Infeld theory. Based on the subregion CV conjecture, we argue that the subregion complexity can be treated as a probe to explore the interior of the black hole. The effects of the nonlinear parameter and the charge on the evolution of the holographic subregion complexity are also investigated. When the charge is sufficiently large, it not only changes the evolution pattern of the subregion complexity, but also washes out the second stage featured by linear growth.

Holography of electrically and magnetically charged black branes

We construct a new class of black brane solutions in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theory, which is characterized by two parameters $a,b$. Based on the obtained solutions, we make detailed analysis on the ground state in zero temperature limit and find that for many cases it exhibits the behavior of vanishing entropy density. We also find that the linear-T resistivity can be realized in a large region of temperature for the specific case of $a^2=1/3$, which is the Gubser-Rocha model dual to a ground state with vanishing entropy density. Moreover, for $a=1$ we analytically construct the black brane which is magnetically charged by virtue of the electric-magnetic (EM) duality. Various transport coefficients are calculated and their temperature dependence are obtained in the high temperature region.

Quantum error correction and entanglement spectrum in tensor networks

A sort of planar tensor networks with tensor constraints is investigated as a model for holography. We study the greedy algorithm generated by tensor constraints and propose the notion of critical protection (CP) against the action of greedy algorithm. For given tensor constraints, a CP tensor chain can be defined. We further find that the ability of quantum error correction (QEC), the non-flatness of entanglement spectrum (ES) and the correlation function can be quantitatively evaluated by the geometric structure of CP tensor chain. Four classes of tensor networks with different properties of entanglement is discussed. Thanks to tensor constraints and CP, the correlation function is reduced into a bracket of Matrix Production State and the result agrees with the one in conformal field theory.

Entanglement in simple spin networks with a boundary

We investigate the bipartite entanglement for the boundary states in a simple type of spin networks with dangling edges, in which the two complementary parts are linked by two or more edges. Firstly, the spin entanglement is considered in the absence of the intertwiner entanglement. By virtue of numerical simulations, we find that the entanglement entropy usually depends on the group elements. More importantly, when the intertwiner entanglement is taken into account, we find that it is in general impossible to separate the total entanglement entropy into the contribution from spins on edges and the contribution from intertwiners at vertices. These situations are in contrast to the case when the two vertices are linked by a single edge.

Tensor chain and constraints in tensor networks

This paper accompanies with our recent work on quantum error correction (QEC) and entanglement spectrum (ES) in tensor networks (arXiv:1806.05007). We propose a general framework for planar tensor network state with tensor constraints as a model for $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence, which could be viewed as a generalization of hyperinvariant tensor networks recently proposed by Evenbly. We elaborate our proposal on tensor chains in a tensor network by tiling $H^2$ space and provide a diagrammatical description for general multi-tensor constraints in terms of tensor chains, which forms a generalized greedy algorithm. The behavior of tensor chains under the action of greedy algorithm is investigated in detail. In particular, for a given set of tensor constraints, a critically protected (CP) tensor chain can be figured out and evaluated by its average reduced interior angle. We classify tensor networks according to their ability of QEC and the flatness of ES. The corresponding geometric description of critical protection over the hyperbolic space is also given.

Characterizing quantum phase transition by teleportation

In this paper we provide a novel way to explore the relation between quantum teleportation and quantum phase transition. We construct a quantum channel with a mixed state which is made from one dimensional quantum Ising chain with infinite length, and then consider the teleportation with the use of entangled Werner states as input qubits. The fidelity as a figure of merit to measure how well the quantum state is transferred is studied numerically. Remarkably we find the first-order derivative of the fidelity with respect to the parameter in quantum Ising chain exhibits a logarithmic divergence at the quantum critical point. The implications of this phenomenon and possible applications are also briefly discussed.

Holographic superconductor on a novel insulator

We construct a holographic superconductor model, based on a gravity theory, which exhibits novel metal-insulator transitions. We investigate the condition for the condensation of the scalar field over the parameter space, and then focus on the superconductivity over the insulating phase with a hard gap, which is supposed to be Mott-like. It turns out that the formation of the hard gap in the insulating phase benefits the superconductivity. This phenomenon is analogous to the fact that the pseudogap phase can promote the pre-pairing of electrons in high $T_c$ cuprates. We expect that this work can shed light on understanding the mechanism of high Tc superconductivity from the holographic side.

Holographic Butterfly Effect at Quantum Critical Points

When the Lyapunov exponent $λ_L$ in a quantum chaotic system saturates the bound $λ_L\leqslant 2πk_BT$, it is proposed that this system has a holographic dual described by a gravity theory. In particular, the butterfly effect as a prominent phenomenon of chaos can ubiquitously exist in a black hole system characterized by a shockwave solution near the horizon. In this paper we propose that the butterfly velocity can be used to diagnose quantum phase transition (QPT) in holographic theories. We provide evidences for this proposal with an anisotropic holographic model exhibiting metal-insulator transitions (MIT), in which the derivatives of the butterfly velocity with respect to system parameters characterizes quantum critical points (QCP) with local extremes in zero temperature limit. We also point out that this proposal can be tested by experiments in the light of recent progress on the measurement of out-of-time-order correlation function (OTOC).

Holographic Butterfly Effect and Diffusion in Quantum Critical Region

We investigate the butterfly effect and charge diffusion near the quantum phase transition in holographic approach. We argue that their criticality is controlled by the holographic scaling geometry with deformations induced by a relevant operator at finite temperature. Specifically, in the quantum critical region controlled by a single fixed point, the butterfly velocity decreases when deviating from the critical point. While, in the non-critical region, the behavior of the butterfly velocity depends on the specific phase at low temperature. Moreover, in the holographic Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition, the universal behavior of the butterfly velocity is absent. Finally, the tendency of our holographic results matches with the numerical results of Bose-Hubbard model. A comparison between our result and that in the $O(N)$ nonlinear sigma model is also given.

Note on the butterfly effect in holographic superconductor models

In this note we remark that the butterfly effect can be used to diagnose the phase transition of superconductivity in a holographic framework. Specifically, we compute the butterfly velocity in a charged black hole background as well as anisotropic backgrounds with Q-lattice structure. In both cases we find its derivative to the temperature is discontinuous at critical points. We also propose that the butterfly velocity can signalize the occurrence of thermal phase transition in general holographic models.

Holographic superconductor with momentum relaxation and Weyl correction

We construct a holographic model with Weyl corrections in five dimensional spacetime. In particular, we introduce a coupling term between the axion fields and the Maxwell field such that the momentum is relaxed even in the probe limit in this model. We investigate the Drude behavior of the optical conductivity in low frequency region. It is interesting to find that the incoherent part of the conductivity is suppressed with the increase of the axion parameter $k/T$, which is in contrast to other holographic axionic models at finite density. Furthermore, we study the superconductivity associated with the condensation of a complex scalar field and evaluate the critical temperature for condensation in both analytical and numerical manner. It turns out that the critical temperature decreases with $\tilde{k}$,indicating that the condensation becomes harder in the presence of the axions, while it increases with Weyl parameter $γ$. We also discuss the change of the gap in optical conductivity with coupling parameters. Finally, we evaluate the charge density of the superfluid in zero temperature limit, and find that it exhibits a linear relation with $\tildeσ_{DC}(\tilde{T_c})\tilde{T_c}$, such that a modified version of Homes' law is testified.

Holographic Metal-Insulator Transition in Higher Derivative Gravity

We introduce a Weyl term into the Einstein-Maxwell-Axion theory in four dimensional spacetime. Up to the first order of the Weyl coupling parameter $γ$, we construct charged black brane solutions without translational invariance in a perturbative manner. Among all the holographic frameworks involving higher derivative gravity, we are the first to obtain metal-insulator transitions (MIT) when varying the system parameters at zero temperature. Furthermore, we study the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) of strip geometry in this model and find that the second order derivative of HEE with respect to the axion parameter exhibits maximization behavior near quantum critical points (QCPs) of MIT. It testifies the conjecture in 1502.03661 and 1604.04857 that HEE itself or its derivatives can be used to diagnose quantum phase transition (QPT).

Holographic incoherent transport in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton Gravity

Recent progress in the holographic approach makes it more transparent that each conductivity can be decomposed into the coherent contribution due to momentum relaxation and the incoherent contribution due to intrinsic current relaxation. In this paper we investigate this decomposition in the framework of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. We derive the perturbation equations, which are decoupled for a large class of background solutions, and then obtain the analytic results of conductivity with the slow momentum relaxation in low frequency approximation, which is consistent with the known results from memory matrix techniques.

Generalized uncertainty principles, effective Newton constant and regular black holes

In this paper, we explore the quantum spacetimes that are potentially connected with the generalized uncertainty principles. By analyzing the gravity-induced quantum interference pattern and the Gedanken for weighting photon, we find that the generalized uncertainty principles inspire the effective Newton constant as same as our previous proposal. A characteristic momentum associated with the tidal effect is suggested, which incorporates the quantum effect with the geometric nature of gravity. When the simplest generalized uncertainty principle is considered, the minimal model of the regular black holes is reproduced by the effective Newton constant. The black hole's tunneling probability, accurate to the second order correction, is carefully analyzed. We find that the tunneling probability is regularized by the size of the black hole remnant. Moreover, the black hole remnant is the final state of a tunneling process that the probability is minimized. A theory of modified gravity is suggested, by substituting the effective Newton constant into the Hilbert-Einstein action.
