Anderson transition and mobility edges on hyperbolic lattices with randomly connected boundaries

Hyperbolic lattices, formed by tessellating the hyperbolic plane with regular polygons, exhibit a diverse range of exotic physical phenomena beyond conventional Euclidean lattices. Here, we investigate the impact of disorder on hyperbolic lattices and reveal that the Anderson localization occurs at strong disorder strength, accompanied by the presence of mobility edges. Taking the hyperbolic $\{p,q\}=\{3,8\}$ and $\{p,q\}=\{4,8\}$ lattices as examples, we employ finite-size scaling of both spectral statistics and the inverse participation ratio to pinpoint the transition point and critical exponents. Our findings indicate that the transition points tend to increase with larger values of $\{p,q\}$ or curvature. In the limiting case of $\{\infty, q\}$, we further determine its Anderson transition using the cavity method, drawing parallels with the random regular graph. Our work lays the cornerstone for a comprehensive understanding of Anderson transition and mobility edges on hyperbolic lattices.

Observation of Majorana zero modes emerged from topological Dirac semimetal states under uniaxial strain

The topological properties observed in iron-based superconductors extend our understanding of vortex Majorana quasiparticle excitations in unexpected ways. Vortex Majorana physics has been extensively studied within the context of the topologically protected surface Dirac state. By employing an in-situ strain device, we demonstrate that uniaxial strain can generate Majorana zero modes out of the topological Dirac semimetal bulk state in LiFeAs. Uniaxial strain along [100] direction is found to enhance the band renormalization of LiFeAs, effectively reducing the energy separation between the Fermi level and the topological Dirac semimetal state, and breaking C4 symmetry. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we observe the evolution of vortex bound states in the topological Dirac semimetal state region, accompanied by the emergence of Majorana zero modes and vortex bound states contributed by the bulk band. Our work provides a controllable method for experimentally engineering Majorana physics in iron-based superconductors, and offers valuable insights into the topological Dirac semimetal state with intrinsic s-wave superconductivity.

A Survey on Large Language Models from General Purpose to Medical Applications: Datasets, Methodologies, and Evaluations

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated surprising performance across various natural language processing tasks. Recently, medical LLMs enhanced with domain-specific knowledge have exhibited excellent capabilities in medical consultation and diagnosis. These models can smoothly simulate doctor-patient dialogues and provide professional medical advice. Most medical LLMs are developed through continued training of open-source general LLMs, which require significantly fewer computational resources than training LLMs from scratch. Additionally, this approach offers better patient privacy protection than API-based solutions. Given the above advantages, this survey systematically summarizes how to train medical LLMs based on open-source general LLMs from a more fine-grained perspective. It covers (a) how to acquire training corpus and construct customized medical training sets, (b) how to choose an appropriate training paradigm, (c) how to choose a suitable evaluation benchmark, and (d) existing challenges and promising research directions are discussed. This survey can provide guidance for the development of LLMs focused on various medical applications, such as medical education, diagnostic planning, and clinical assistants. Manipulating the Relaxation Time of Boundary-Dissipative Systems through Bond Dissipation

Relaxation time plays a crucial role in describing the relaxation processes of quantum systems. We study the effect of a type of bond dissipation on the relaxation time of boundary dissipative systems and find that it can change the scaling of the relaxation time $T_c\sim L^{z}$ from $z=3$ to a value significantly less than $3$. We further reveal that the reason such bond dissipation can significantly reduce the relaxation time is that it can selectively target specific states. For Anderson localized systems, the scaling behavior of the relaxation time changes from an exponential form to a power-law form as the system size varies. This is because the bond dissipation we consider can not only select specific states but also disrupt the localization properties. Our work reveals that in open systems, one type of dissipation can be used to regulate the effects produced by another type of dissipation.

Robust Square Root Unscented Kalman filter of graph signals

Considering the problem of nonlinear and non-gaussian filtering of the graph signal, in this paper, a robust square root unscented Kalman filter based on graph signal processing is proposed. The algorithm uses a graph topology to generate measurements and an unscented transformation is used to obtain the priori state estimates. In addition, in order to enhance the numerical stability of the unscented Kalman filter, the algorithm combines the double square root decomposition method to update the covariance matrix in the graph frequency domain. Furthermore, to handle the non-Gaussian noise problem in the state estimation process, an error augmentation model is constructed in the graph frequency domain by unifying the measurement error and state error, which utilizes the Laplace matrix of the graph to effectively reduce the cumulative error at each vertex. Then the general robust cost function is adopted as the optimal criterion to deal with the error, which has more parameter options so that effectively suppresses the problems of random outliers and abnormal measurement values in the state estimation process. Finally, the convergence of the error of the proposed algorithm is firstly verified theoretically, and then the robustness of the proposed algorithm is verified by experimental simulation.

An Improved Robust Total Logistic Distance Metric algorithm for Generalized Gaussian Noise and Noisy Input

Although the known maximum total generalized correntropy (MTGC) and generalized maximum blakezisserman total correntropy (GMBZTC) algorithms can maintain good performance under the errors-in-variables (EIV) model disrupted by generalized Gaussian noise, their requirement for manual ad-justment of parameters is excessive, greatly increasing the practical difficulty of use. To solve this problem, the total arctangent based on logical distance metric (TACLDM) algo-rithm is proposed by utilizing the advantage of few parameters in logical distance metric (LDM) theory and the convergence behavior is improved by the arctangent function. Compared with other competing algorithms, the TACLDM algorithm not only has fewer parameters, but also has better robustness to generalized Gaussian noise and significantly reduces the steady-state error. Furthermore, the analysis of the algorithm in the generalized Gaussian noise environment is analyzed in detail in this paper. Finally, computer simulations demonstrate the outstanding performance of the TACLDM algorithm and the rigorous theoretical deduction in this paper.

Nonlinear Stability for the Superposition of Viscous Contact Wave and Rarefaction Waves to Non-isentropic Compressible Navier-Stokes System with General Initial Perturbations

In this paper, the large time behavior of the solutions for the Cauchy problem to the one-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes system with the motion of a viscous heat-conducting perfect polytropic gas is investigated. Our result shows that the combination of a viscous contact wave with rarefaction waves is asymptotically stable, when the large initial disturbance of the density, velocity and temperature belong to $H^{1}(\mathbb{R})$, $L^{2}(\mathbb{R})\cap L^{4}(\mathbb{R})$ and $L^{2}(\mathbb{R})$, provided the strength of the combination waves is suitably small. In addition, the initial disturbance on the derivation of velocity and temperature belong to $L^{2}(\mathbb{R})$ can be arbitrarily large.

Superconductivity above 30 K achieved in dense scandium

Superconductivity is one of most intriguing quantum phenomena, and the quest for elemental superconductors with high critical temperature (Tc) is of great scientific significance due to their relatively simple material composition and the underlying mechanism. Here we report the experimental discovery of densely compressed scandium (Sc) becoming the first elemental superconductor with Tc breaking into 30 K range, which is comparable to the Tc values of the classic La-Ba-Cu-O or LaFeAsO superconductors. Our results show that Tconset of Sc increases from ~3 K at around 43 GPa to ~32 K at about 283 GPa (Tczero ~ 31 K), which is well above liquid neon temperature. Interestingly measured Tc shows no sign of saturation up to the maximum pressure achieved in our experiments, indicating that Tc might be even higher upon further compression.

Biomimetic Synchronization in biciliated robots

Direct mechanical coupling is known to be critical for establishing synchronization among cilia. However, the actual role of the connections is still elusive - partly because controlled experiments in live samples are challenging. Here, we employ an artificial ciliary system to address this issue. Two cilia are formed by chains of self-propelling robots and anchored to a shared base so that they are purely mechanically-coupled. The system mimics biological ciliary beating but allows fine control over the beating dynamics. We find that the artificial cilia exhibit rich motion behaviors, depending on the mechanical coupling scheme. Particularly, their synchronous beating display two distinct modes - analogous to those observed in C. reinhardtii, the biciliated model organism for studying synchronization. Close examination suggests that the system evolves towards the most dissipative mode. Using this guideline in both simulations and experiments, we are able to direct the system into a desired state by altering the modes' respective dissipation. Our results have significant implications in understanding the synchronization of cilia.

Thermal variational quantum simulation on a superconducting quantum processor

Solving finite-temperature properties of quantum many-body systems is generally challenging to classical computers due to their high computational complexities. In this article, we present experiments to demonstrate a hybrid quantum-classical simulation of thermal quantum states. By combining a classical probabilistic model and a 5-qubit programmable superconducting quantum processor, we prepare Gibbs states and excited states of Heisenberg XY and XXZ models with high fidelity and compute thermal properties including the variational free energy, energy, and entropy with a small statistical error. Our approach combines the advantage of classical probabilistic models for sampling and quantum co-processors for unitary transformations. We show that the approach is scalable in the number of qubits, and has a self-verifiable feature, revealing its potentials in solving large-scale quantum statistical mechanics problems on near-term intermediate-scale quantum computers.

Single laser pulse induced magnetization switching in in-plane magnetized GdCo alloys

The discovery of all-optical ultra-fast deterministic magnetization switching has opened up new possibilities for manipulating magnetization in devices using femtosecond laser pulses. Previous studies on single pulse all-optical helicity-independent switching (AO-HIS) have mainly focused on perpendicularly magnetized thin films. This work presents a comprehensive study on AO-HIS for in-plane magnetized GdxCo100-x thin films. Deterministic single femtosecond laser pulse toggle magnetization switching is demonstrated in a wider concentration range (x=10% to 25%) compared to the perpendicularly magnetized counterparts with GdCo thicknesses up to 30 nm. The switching time strongly depends on the GdxCo100-x concentration, with lower Gd concentration exhibiting shorter switching times (less than 500 fs). Our findings in this geometry provide insights into the underlying mechanisms governing single pulse AO-HIS, which challenge existing theoretical predictions. Moreover, in-plane magnetized GdxCo100-x thin films offer extended potential for opto-spintronic applications compared to their perpendicular magnetized counterparts.

Accelerating Relaxation Dynamics in Open Quantum System with Liouvillian Skin Effect

We investigate a non-Hermitian model featuring non-reciprocal gradient hoppings. Through an in-depth analysis of the Liouvillian spectrum and dynamics, we confirm the emergence of the Liouvillian skin effect resulting from the non-reciprocal nature of hoppings in this model. Furthermore, we observe that the presence of gradient hopping strength leads to an accelerated relaxation time for the system. Through numerical investigations of the Liouvillian gap, relaxation time, and steady-state localization length, we discover that the relaxation time in this model cannot be explained by the currently established relationship associated with the Liouvillian skin effect. This discrepancy highlights the need for further exploration and theoretical advancements to fully comprehend the intricate mechanisms underlying quantum relaxation processes. Motivated by these findings, we propose a theoretical approach to realize this non-Hermitian model in an atomic system with a sideband structure by employing adiabatic elimination technique. These results contribute to our deeper comprehension of quantum relaxation dynamics and provide theoretical backing for the development of techniques aimed at controlling quantum relaxation processes.

Inequalities for the $k$-Regular Overpartitions

Bessenrodt and Ono, Chen, Wang and Jia, DeSalvo and Pak were the first to discover the log-subadditivity, log-concavity, and the third-order Turán inequality of partition function, respectively. Many other important partition statistics are proved to enjoy similar properties. This paper focuses on the partition function $\overline{p}_k(n)$, which counts the number of overpartitions of $n$ with no parts divisible by $k$. We provide a combinatorial proof to establish that for any $k\geq2$, the partition function $\overline{p}_k(n)$ exhibits strict log-subadditivity. Specifically, we show that $\overline{p}_k(a)\overline{p}_k(b)>\overline{p}_k(a+b)$ for integers $a\geq b\geq1$ and $a+b\geq k$. Furthermore, we investigate the log-concavity and the satisfaction of the third-order Turán inequality for $\overline{p}_k(n)$, where $2\leq k\leq9$.

Scaling transition of active turbulence from two to three dimensions

Turbulent flows are observed in low-Reynolds active fluids. They are intrinsically different from the classical inertial turbulence and behave distinctively in two- and three-dimensions. Understanding the behaviors of this new type of turbulence and their dependence on the system dimensionality is a fundamental challenge in non-equilibrium physics. We experimentally measure flow structures and energy spectra of bacterial turbulence between two large parallel plates spaced by different heights $H$. The turbulence exhibits three regimes as H increases, resulting from the competition of bacterial length, vortex size and H. This is marked by two critical heights ($H_0$ and $H_1$) and a $H^{0.5}$ scaling law of vortex size in the large-$H$ limit. Meanwhile, the spectra display distinct universal scaling laws in quasi-two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) regimes, independent of bacterial activity, length and $H$, whereas scaling exponents exhibit transitions in the crossover. To understand the scaling laws, we develop a hydrodynamic model using image systems to represent the effect of no-slip confining boundaries. This model predicts universal 1 and -4 scaling on large and small length scales, respectively, and -2 and -1 on intermediate length scales in 2D and 3D, respectively, which are consistent with the experimental results. Our study suggests a framework for investigating the effect of dimensionality on non-equilibrium self-organized systems.

Weak solutions to the Hall-MHD equations whose singular sets in time have Hausdorff dimension strictly less than 1

In this paper, we focus on the three-dimensional hyper viscous and resistive Hall-MHD equations on the torus, where the viscous and resistive exponent $α\in [ρ, 5/4)$ with a fixed constant $ρ\in (1,5/4)$. We prove the non-uniqueness of a class of weak solutions to the Hall-MHD equations, which have bounded kinetic energy and are smooth in time outside a set whose Hausdorff dimension strictly less than 1. The proof is based on the construction of the non-Leray-Hopf weak solutions via a convex integration scheme.

Superconductivity above 70 K observed in lutetium polyhydrides

The binary polyhydrides of heavy rare earth lutetium that shares a similar valence electron configuration to lanthanum have been experimentally discovered to be superconductive. The lutetium polyhydrides were successfully synthesized at high pressure and high temperature conditions using a diamond anvil cell in combinations with the in-situ high pressure laser heating technique. The resistance measurements as a function of temperature were performed at the same pressure of synthesis in order to study the transitions of superconductivity (SC). The superconducting transition with a maximum onset temperature (Tc) 71 K was observed at pressure of 218 GPa in the experiments. The Tc decreased to 65 K when pressure was at 181 GPa. From the evolution of SC at applied magnetic fields, the upper critical field at zero temperature μ0Hc2(0) was obtained to be ~36 Tesla. The in-situ high pressure X-ray diffraction experiments imply that the high Tc SC should arise from the Lu4H23 phase with Pm-3n symmetry that forms a new type of hydrogen cage framework different from those reported for previous light rare earth polyhydride superconductors.

Single-shot laser-induced switching of an exchange biased antiferromagnet

Ultrafast manipulation of magnetic order has challenged our understanding the fundamental and dynamic properties of magnetic materials. So far single shot magnetic switching has been limited to ferrimagnetic alloys and multilayers. In ferromagnetic (FM)/antiferromagnetic (AFM) bilayers, exchange bias (He) arises from the interfacial exchange coupling between the two layers and reflects the microscopic orientation of the antiferromagnet. Here we demonstrate the possibility of single shot switching of the antiferromagnet (change of the sign and amplitude of He) with a single femtosecond laser pulse in IrMn/CoGd bilayers. We demonstrate the switching for a wide range of fluences for different layer thicknesses and compositions. Atomistic simulations predict ultrafast switching and recovery of the AFM magnetization on a timescale of 2 ps. These results provide the fastest and the most energy-efficient method to set the exchange bias and pave the way to potential applications for ultrafast spintronic devices.

Strong solutions of the Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation in Besov space

We focus on the existence and uniqueness of the three-dimensional Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation supplemented with the initial data in Besov space $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{\frac{3}{2}}$. Utilizing a new commutator estimate, we establish the local existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for any initial data in $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{\frac{3}{2}}$. When the initial data is small enough in $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{\frac{3}{2}}$, we obtain the global existence and uniqueness. Furthermore, we also establish a blow-up criterion of the solution to the Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation and then we prove the global existence of strong solutions in Sobolev space under a new condition based on the blow-up criterion.
