A commutative algebra approach to multiplicative Hom-Lie algebras

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra and $\textrm{HLie}_{m}(\mathfrak{g})$ be the affine variety of all multiplicative Hom-Lie algebras on $\mathfrak{g}$. We use a method of computational ideal theory to describe $\textrm{HLie}_{m}(\mathfrak{gl}_{n}(\mathbb{C}))$, showing that $\textrm{HLie}_{m}(\mathfrak{gl}_{2}(\mathbb{C}))$ consists of two 1-dimensional and one 3-dimensional irreducible components, and showing that $\textrm{HLie}_{m}(\mathfrak{gl}_{n}(\mathbb{C}))=\{\textrm{diag}\{δ,\dots,δ,a\}\mid δ=1\textrm{ or }0,a\in\mathbb{C}\}$ for $n\geqslant 3$. We construct a new family of multiplicative Hom-Lie algebras on the Heisenberg Lie algebra $\mathfrak{h}_{2n+1}(\mathbb{C})$ and characterize the affine varieties $\textrm{HLie}_{m}(\mathfrak{u}_{2}(\mathbb{C}))$ and $\textrm{HLie}_{m}(\mathfrak{u}_{3}(\mathbb{C}))$. We also study the derivation algebra $\textrm{Der}_{D}(\mathfrak{g})$ of a multiplicative Hom-Lie algebra $D$ on $\mathfrak{g}$ and under some hypotheses on $D$, we prove that the Hilbert series $\mathcal{H}(\textrm{Der}_{D}(\mathfrak{g}),t)$ is a rational function.

A class of quadratic matrix equations over finite fields

We exhibit an explicit formula for the cardinality of solutions to a class of quadratic matrix equations over finite fields. We prove that the orbits of these solutions under the natural conjugation action of the general linear groups can be separated by classical conjugation invariants defined by characteristic polynomials. We also find a generating set for the vanishing ideal of these orbits.

How to Identify Boundary Conditions with Contrasty Metric?

The boundary conditions (BCs) have shown great potential in requirements engineering because a BC captures the particular combination of circumstances, i.e., divergence, in which the goals of the requirement cannot be satisfied as a whole. Existing researches have attempted to automatically identify lots of BCs. Unfortunately, a large number of identified BCs make assessing and resolving divergences expensive. Existing methods adopt a coarse-grained metric, generality, to filter out less general BCs. However, the results still retain a large number of redundant BCs since a general BC potentially captures redundant circumstances that do not lead to a divergence. Furthermore, the likelihood of BC can be misled by redundant BCs resulting in costly repeatedly assessing and resolving divergences. In this paper, we present a fine-grained metric to filter out the redundant BCs. We first introduce the concept of contrasty of BC. Intuitively, if two BCs are contrastive, they capture different divergences. We argue that a set of contrastive BCs should be recommended to engineers, rather than a set of general BCs that potentially only indicates the same divergence. Then we design a post-processing framework (PPAc) to produce a set of contrastive BCs after identifying BCs. Experimental results show that the contrasty metric dramatically reduces the number of BCs recommended to engineers. Results also demonstrate that lots of BCs identified by the state-of-the-art method are redundant in most cases. Besides, to improve efficiency, we propose a joint framework (JAc) to interleave assessing based on the contrasty metric with identifying BCs. The primary intuition behind JAc is that it considers the search bias toward contrastive BCs during identifying BCs, thereby pruning the BCs capturing the same divergence. Experiments confirm the improvements of JAc in identifying contrastive BCs.

A generalization on derivations of Lie algebras

We initiate a study on a range of new generalized derivations of finite-dimensional Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. This new generalization of derivations has an analogue in the theory of associative prime rings and unites many well-known generalized derivations that have already appeared extensively in the study of Lie algebras and other nonassociative algebras. After exploiting fundamental properties, we introduce and analyze their interiors, especially focusing on the rationality of the corresponding Hilbert series. Applying techniques in computational ideal theory we develop an approach to explicitly compute these new generalized derivations for the three-dimensional special linear Lie algebra over the complex field.

On the gauge transformation for the rotation of the singular string in the Dirac monopole theory

In the Dirac theory of the quantum-mechanical interaction of a magnetic monopole and an electric charge, the vector potential is singular from the origin to infinity along certain direction - the so called Dirac string. Imposing the famous quantization condition, the singular string attached to the monopole can be rotated arbitrarily by a gauge transformation, and hence is not physically observable. By deriving its analytical expression and analyzing its properties, we show that the gauge function $χ({\bf r})$ which rotates the string to another one has quite complicated behaviors depending on which side from which the position variable ${\bf r}$ gets across the plane expanded by the two strings. Consequently, some misunderstandings in the literature are clarified.

Bogomolov multipliers of some groups of order $p^{6}$

Let $G$ be a finite group, $V$ a faithful finite-dimensional representation of $G$ over the complex field $\mathbb{C}$ and $\mathbb{C}(V)^{G}$ be the corresponding invariant field. The Bogomolov multiplier $B_{0}(G)$ of $G$ is canonically isomorphic to the unramified cohomological group $H_{\textrm{nr}}^{2}(\mathbb{C}(V)^{G},\mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z})$, which has been used by Saltman (1984) and Bogomolov (1988) to provide counter-examples to the rationality problem of $\mathbb{C}(V)^{P}$ for finite $p$-groups $P$ over $\mathbb{C}$. In this paper, we investigate the vanishing property of $B_{0}(P)$, where $P$ denotes a $p$-group of order $p^{6}$ for $p\geqslant 3$.

Chaos Phase Induced Mass-producible Monolayer Two-dimensional Material

Crystal phase is well studied and presents a periodical atom arrangement in three dimensions lattice, but the "amorphous phase" is poorly understood. Here, by starting from cage-like bicyclocalix[2]arene[2]triazines building block, a brand-new 2D MOF is constructed with extremely weak interlaminar interaction existing between two adjacent 2D-crystal layer. Inter-layer slip happens under external disturbance and leads to the loss of periodicity at one dimension in the crystal lattice, resulting in an interim phase between the crystal and amorphous phase - the chaos phase, non-periodical in microscopic scale but orderly in mesoscopic scale. This chaos phase 2D MOF is a disordered self-assembly of black-phosphorus like 3D-layer, which has excellent mechanical-strength and a thickness of 1.15 nm. The bulky 2D-MOF material is readily to be exfoliated into monolayer nanosheets in gram-scale with unprecedented evenness and homogeneity, as well as previously unattained lateral size (>10 um), which present the first mass-producible monolayer 2D material and can form wafer-scale film on substrate.

Modular invariants of finite gluing groups

We use the gluing construction introduced by Jia Huang to explore the rings of invariants for a range of modular representations. We construct generating sets for the rings of invariants of the maximal parabolic subgroups of a finite symplectic group and their common Sylow $p$-subgroup. We also investigate the invariants of singular finite classical groups. We introduce parabolic gluing and use this construction to compute the invariant field of fractions for a range of representations. We use thin gluing to construct faithful representations of semidirect products and to determine the minimum dimension of a faithful representation of the semidirect product of a cyclic $p$-group acting on an elementary abelian $p$-group.

Vector invariant fields of finite classical groups

Let $W$ be an $n$-dimensional vector space over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of any characteristic and $mW$ denote the direct sum of $m$ copies of $W$. Let $\mathbb{F}_q[mW]^{{\rm GL}(W)}$ and $\mathbb{F}_q(mW)^{{\rm GL}(W)}$ denote the vector invariant ring and vector invariant field respectively where ${\rm GL}(W)$ acts on $W$ in the standard way and acts on $mW$ diagonally. We prove that there exists a set of homogeneous invariant polynomials $\{f_{1},f_{2},\ldots,f_{mn}\}\subseteq \mathbb{F}_q[mW]^{{\rm GL}(W)}$ such that $\mathbb{F}_q(mW)^{{\rm GL}(W)}=\mathbb{F}_q(f_{1},f_{2},\ldots,f_{mn}).$ We also prove the same assertions for the special linear groups and the symplectic groups in any characteristic, and the unitary groups and the orthogonal groups in odd characteristic.

MRS-VPR: a multi-resolution sampling based global visual place recognition method

Place recognition and loop closure detection are challenging for long-term visual navigation tasks. SeqSLAM is considered to be one of the most successful approaches to achieving long-term localization under varying environmental conditions and changing viewpoints. It depends on a brute-force, time-consuming sequential matching method. We propose MRS-VPR, a multi-resolution, sampling-based place recognition method, which can significantly improve the matching efficiency and accuracy in sequential matching. The novelty of this method lies in the coarse-to-fine searching pipeline and a particle filter-based global sampling scheme, that can balance the matching efficiency and accuracy in the long-term navigation task. Moreover, our model works much better than SeqSLAM when the testing sequence has a much smaller scale than the reference sequence. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is efficient in locating short temporary trajectories within long-term reference ones without losing accuracy compared to SeqSLAM.

INDIGO-DataCloud:A data and computing platform to facilitate seamless access to e-infrastructures

This paper describes the achievements of the H2020 project INDIGO-DataCloud. The project has provided e-infrastructures with tools, applications and cloud framework enhancements to manage the demanding requirements of scientific communities, either locally or through enhanced interfaces. The middleware developed allows to federate hybrid resources, to easily write, port and run scientific applications to the cloud. In particular, we have extended existing PaaS (Platform as a Service) solutions, allowing public and private e-infrastructures, including those provided by EGI, EUDAT, and Helix Nebula, to integrate their existing services and make them available through AAI services compliant with GEANT interfederation policies, thus guaranteeing transparency and trust in the provisioning of such services. Our middleware facilitates the execution of applications using containers on Cloud and Grid based infrastructures, as well as on HPC clusters. Our developments are freely downloadable as open source components, and are already being integrated into many scientific applications.

Modular quotient varieties and singularities by the cyclic group of order $2p$

We classify all $n$-dimensional reduced Cohen-Macaulay modular quotient variety $\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{F}^n/C_{2p}$ and study their singularities, where $p$ is a prime number and $C_{2p}$ denotes the cyclic group of order $2p$. In particular, we present an example that demonstrates that the problem proposed by Yasuda \cite[Problem 6.6]{Yas2015} has a negative answer if the condition that "$G$ is a small subgroup" was dropped.

Inclusion-exclusion by ordering-free cancellation

Whitney's broken circuit theorem gives a graphical example to reduce the number of the terms in the sum of the inclusion-exclusion formula by a predicted cancellation. So far, the known cancellations for the formula strongly depend on the prescribed (linear or partial) ordering on the index set. We give a new cancellation method, which does not require any ordering on the index set. Our method extends all the `ordering-based' methods known in the literatures and in general reduces more terms. As examples, we use our method to improve some relevant results on graph polynomials.

On invariant fields of vectors and covectors

Let ${\mathbb{F}_{q}}$ be the finite field of order $q$. Let $G$ be one of the three groups ${\rm GL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$, ${\rm SL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ or ${\rm U}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ and let $W$ be the standard $n$-dimensional representation of $G$. For non-negative integers $m$ and $d$ we let $mW\oplus d W^*$ denote the representation of $G$ given by the direct sum of $m$ vectors and $d$ covectors. We exhibit a minimal set of homogenous invariant polynomials $\{\ell_1,\ell_{2},\dots,\ell_{(m+d)n}\}\subseteq \mathbb{F}_q[mW\oplus d W^*]^G$ such that $\mathbb{F}_q(mW\oplus d W^*)^G=\mathbb{F}_q(\ell_1,\ell_2,\dots,\ell_{(m+d)n})$ for all cases except when $md=0$ and $G={\rm GL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ or ${\rm SL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$.

Derivations, Automorphisms, and Representations of Complex $ω$-Lie Algebras

Let $(\mathfrak{g},ω)$ be a finite-dimensional non-Lie complex $ω$-Lie algebra. We study the derivation algebra $Der(\mathfrak{g})$ and the automorphism group $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$ of $(\mathfrak{g},ω)$. We introduce the notions of $ω$-derivations and $ω$-automorphisms of $(\mathfrak{g},ω)$ which naturally preserve the bilinear form $ω$. We show that the set $Der_ω(\mathfrak{g})$ of all $ω$-derivations is a Lie subalgebra of $Der(\mathfrak{g})$ and the set $Aut_ω(\mathfrak{g})$ of all $ω$-automorphisms is a subgroup of $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$. For any 3-dimensional and 4-dimensional nontrivial $ω$-Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we compute $Der(\mathfrak{g})$ and $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$ explicitly, and study some Lie group properties of $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$. We also study representation theory of $ω$-Lie algebras. We show that all 3-dimensional nontrivial $ω$-Lie algebras are multiplicative, as well as we provide a 4-dimensional example of $ω$-Lie algebra that is not multiplicative. Finally, we show that any irreducible representation of the simple $ω$-Lie algebra $C_α(α\neq 0,-1)$ is 1-dimensional.

Achieving ultrahigh carrier mobility and photo-responsivity in solution-processed perovskite/carbon nanotubes phototransistors

Organolead trihalide perovskites have drawn substantial interest for applications in photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices due to their low processing cost and remarkable physical properties. However, perovskite thin films still suffer from low carrier mobility, limiting their device performance and application potential. Here we report that embedding single-walled carbon nanotubes into halide perovskite films can significantly enhance the hole and electron mobilities to record-high values of 595.3 and 108.7 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively. In the ambipolar phototransistors with such hybrid channels, photo-carriers generated in the light-absorbing perovskite matrix are transported by the carbon nanotubes, leading to ultrahigh detectivity of 6 * 1014 Jones and responsivity of 1 * 104 A W-1. We find that the perovskite precursor in dimethylformamide solution serve as an excellent stabilizer for the dispersion of carbon nanotubes, which potentially extend the scope of applications of perovskites in solution-processed functional composites. The unprecedented high performances underscore the perovskite/carbon nanotubes hybrids as an emerging class of functional materials in optoelectronic and other applications.
