Cooperative Suppression Strategy for Dual Thermal Transport Channels in Crystalline Materials

We propose a novel design principle for achieving ultralow thermal conductivity in crystalline materials via a "heavy-light and soft-stiff" structural motif. By combining heavy and light atomic species with soft and stiff bonding networks, both particle-like ($κ_p$) and wave-like ($κ_c$) phonon transport channels are concurrently suppressed. First-principles calculations show that this architecture induces a hierarchical phonon spectrum: soft-bonded heavy atoms generate dense low-frequency modes that enhance scattering and reduce $κ_p$, while stiff-bonded light atoms produce sparse high-frequency optical branches that disrupt coherence and lower $κ_c$. High-throughput screening identifies Tl$_4$SiS$_4$ ($κ_p$ = 0.10, $κ_c$ = 0.06 W/mK) and Tl$_4$GeS$_4$ ($κ_p$ = 0.09, $κ_c$ = 0.06 W/mK) as representative candidates with strongly suppressed transport in both channels. A minimal 1D triatomic chain model further demonstrates the generality of this mechanism, offering a new paradigm for phonon engineering beyond the conventional $κ_p$-$κ_c$ trade-off.

S2-UniSeg: Fast Universal Agglomerative Pooling for Scalable Segment Anything without Supervision

Recent self-supervised image segmentation models have achieved promising performance on semantic segmentation and class-agnostic instance segmentation. However, their pretraining schedule is multi-stage, requiring a time-consuming pseudo-masks generation process between each training epoch. This time-consuming offline process not only makes it difficult to scale with training dataset size, but also leads to sub-optimal solutions due to its discontinuous optimization routine. To solve these, we first present a novel pseudo-mask algorithm, Fast Universal Agglomerative Pooling (UniAP). Each layer of UniAP can identify groups of similar nodes in parallel, allowing to generate both semantic-level and instance-level and multi-granular pseudo-masks within ens of milliseconds for one image. Based on the fast UniAP, we propose the Scalable Self-Supervised Universal Segmentation (S2-UniSeg), which employs a student and a momentum teacher for continuous pretraining. A novel segmentation-oriented pretext task, Query-wise Self-Distillation (QuerySD), is proposed to pretrain S2-UniSeg to learn the local-to-global correspondences. Under the same setting, S2-UniSeg outperforms the SOTA UnSAM model, achieving notable improvements of AP+6.9 on COCO, AR+11.1 on UVO, PixelAcc+4.5 on COCOStuff-27, RQ+8.0 on Cityscapes. After scaling up to a larger 2M-image subset of SA-1B, S2-UniSeg further achieves performance gains on all four benchmarks. Revealing Polymorph-Specific Transduction in WO$_3$ during Acetone Sensing

Polymorphs are distinct structural forms of the same compound and offer unique opportunities to tailor material properties without altering chemical composition. In particular, the polymorphs of WO$_3$ have been widely explored for their molecular sensing performance; yet, the mechanistic aspects behind their different chemoresistive properties have remained elusive or poorly understood. Here, we highlight the energetic allocation of transferred charge as a critical aspect for chemoresistive response generation, providing a new perspective beyond more conventional net-transfer metrics, which are usually deployed to investigate gas-solid interactions. To this, we combined operando work function, chemisorption analysis, and in situ spectroscopy with density functional theory calculations on the example of acetone. Both gamma- and $\varepsilon$-WO$_3$ exhibit comparable surface-level activation of acetone, mediated by electron-deficient, coordinatively unsaturated tungsten sites. However, only $\varepsilon$-WO$_3$ stabilizes analyte-induced electronic states derived from W(5d) orbitals lying just below the conduction band - an energetically favourable region for conductivity modulation under operating conditions. While being associated with marginal work function shifts, these states reflect deeper subsurface electronic rearrangements that may underlie the $\varepsilon$-WO$_3$'s superior transduction efficiency despite similar receptor chemistry. Our results offer a new framework for rational transducer development rooted in intrinsic electronic structure.

Portraits of Charmoniumlike States

The charm quark density-density correlation is calculated for $1S$ and $1P$ conventional charmonia and $J^{PC}=1^{-+},0^{+-}$ charmoniumlike states from lattice QCD and are interpreted as spatial wave functions of these states with some approximations. The angular distributions of $c\bar{c}$ in conventional charmonia are found to be in accordance with the expectation of two-body systems, while that of the $1^{-+}$ state exhibits an $S$-wave feature. However, the $c\bar{c}$ radial distributions turn out to be strikingly different from the non-relativistic quark model and can be understood by the Dirac theory of two-body bound states. These results provide the first gauge invariant and model-independent three-dimensional portraits of charmonium(like) states.

Variable Selection for Stratified Sampling Designs in Semiparametric Accelerated Failure Time Models with Clustered Failure Times

In large-scale epidemiological studies, statistical inference is often complicated by high-dimensional covariates under stratified sampling designs for failure times. Variable selection methods developed for full cohort data do not extend naturally to stratified sampling designs, and appropriate adjustments for the sampling scheme are necessary. Further challenges arise when the failure times are clustered and exhibit within-cluster dependence. As an alternative of Cox proportional hazards (PH) model when the PH assumption is not valid, the penalized Buckley-James (BJ) estimating method for accelerated failure time (AFT) models can potentially handle within-cluster correlation in such setting by incorporating generalized estimating equation (GEE) techniques, though its practical implementation remains hindered by computational instability. We propose a regularized estimating method within the GEE framework for stratified sampling designs, in the spirit of the penalized BJ method but with a reliable inference procedure. We establish the consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators and show that they achieve the oracle property. Extensive simulation studies demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods that ignore sampling bias or within-cluster dependence. Moreover, the regularization scheme effectively selects relevant variables even with moderate sample sizes. The proposed methodology is illustrated through applications to a dental study.

Bulk Ferroelectric Heterostructures for High Temperature Lead-Free Piezoelectrics

Remarkable exploitation of valence and lattice mismatch in epitaxial ferroelectric heterostructures generates physical effects not classically expected for perovskite oxides, such as 2D electron gas and polar skyrmions. However the widespread application of these interfacial properties and functionalities is impeded by the ultrathin layered structure and essential presence of underlying lattice-matched substrates for the deposition of epitaxial thin films. Here, we report a bottom-up pathway to synthesize bulk ferroelectric heterostructures (BFH) with periodic composition fluctuation (8 nm in wavelength) using elemental partitioning by cation diffusion, providing opportunities to exploit novel characteristics of hetero-epitaxial oxide thin films in bulk materials. Exemplar monolithic BiFeO3-BaTiO3 BFH ceramics described herein share common features with their thin film heterostructure counterparts, which facilitates control and stabilisation of ferroelectric polarisation along with a significant enhancement in Curie temperature, Tc, and functionality. BFH ceramics exhibit a record Tc (up to 824 °C) and a piezoelectric coefficient (d33 = 115 pC N-1 ), in comparison with other perovskite or non-perovskite solid solutions, providing sustainable solutions for emergent high temperature piezoelectric sensing, actuation and energy conversion applications. By creating BFH ceramics using different electromechanical boundary conditions, distinct morphologies of aliovalent A-site cation segregated regions along with different types of ferroelectric order are achieved. This formation mechanism provides unprecedented control over local ferroelectric ordering and domain stabilisation in BFH ceramics; it also paves the way to explore new types of functionality, beyond those achievable in both bulk ferroelectrics and thin film heterostructures.

MedGround-R1: Advancing Medical Image Grounding via Spatial-Semantic Rewarded Group Relative Policy Optimization

Medical Image Grounding (MIG), which involves localizing specific regions in medical images based on textual descriptions, requires models to not only perceive regions but also deduce spatial relationships of these regions. Existing Vision-Language Models (VLMs) for MIG often rely on Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) with large amounts of Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning annotations, which are expensive and time-consuming to acquire. Recently, DeepSeek-R1 demonstrated that Large Language Models (LLMs) can acquire reasoning abilities through Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) without requiring CoT annotations. In this paper, we adapt the GRPO reinforcement learning framework to VLMs for Medical Image Grounding. We propose the Spatial-Semantic Rewarded Group Relative Policy Optimization to train the model without CoT reasoning annotations. Specifically, we introduce Spatial-Semantic Rewards, which combine spatial accuracy reward and semantic consistency reward to provide nuanced feedback for both spatially positive and negative completions. Additionally, we propose to use the Chain-of-Box template, which integrates visual information of referring bounding boxes into the reasoning process, enabling the model to explicitly reason about spatial regions during intermediate steps. Experiments on three datasets MS-CXR, ChestX-ray8, and M3D-RefSeg demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in Medical Image Grounding. Ablation studies further validate the effectiveness of each component in our approach. Code, checkpoints, and datasets are available at https://github.com/bio-mlhui/MedGround-R1

Snap-Through Thermomechanical Metamaterials for High-Performance Thermal Rectification

Thermal diodes that enable directional heat transport are essential for advanced thermal management in microelectronics, energy systems, and thermal logic devices. However, existing designs based on phase-change materials, nanostructures, or interfacial engineering suffer from limited rectification performance, configurational inflexibility, and poor scalability. Here, we present a thermomechanical metamaterial-based thermal diode that combines temperature-responsive actuation with structural bistability to achieve high-efficiency, nonreciprocal thermal transport. The device integrates shape memory alloy (SMA) springs with pre-buckled copper strips that undergo snap-through transitions in response to thermal gradients. This reconfiguration enables contact-based conduction in the forward mode and suppresses reverse heat flow via radiative isolation. We develop a coupled analytical model combining Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and a thermal resistance network, and validate the system through finite element (FE) simulations and experiments. The device achieves a thermal rectification ratio exceeding 900, with robust cycling stability and structural integrity. A modular stacking strategy further enhances scalability without compromising performance. This work establishes a new design framework for high-performance, passive thermal rectifiers that bridge mechanical metamaterials and advanced thermal engineering.

Leveraging Semantic Asymmetry for Precise Gross Tumor Volume Segmentation of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in Planning CT

In the radiation therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), clinicians typically delineate the gross tumor volume (GTV) using non-contrast planning computed tomography to ensure accurate radiation dose delivery. However, the low contrast between tumors and adjacent normal tissues necessitates that radiation oncologists manually delineate the tumors, often relying on diagnostic MRI for guidance. % In this study, we propose a novel approach to directly segment NPC gross tumors on non-contrast planning CT images, circumventing potential registration errors when aligning MRI or MRI-derived tumor masks to planning CT. To address the low contrast issues between tumors and adjacent normal structures in planning CT, we introduce a 3D Semantic Asymmetry Tumor segmentation (SATs) method. Specifically, we posit that a healthy nasopharyngeal region is characteristically bilaterally symmetric, whereas the emergence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma disrupts this symmetry. Then, we propose a Siamese contrastive learning segmentation framework that minimizes the voxel-wise distance between original and flipped areas without tumor and encourages a larger distance between original and flipped areas with tumor. Thus, our approach enhances the sensitivity of features to semantic asymmetries. % Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed SATs achieves the leading NPC GTV segmentation performance in both internal and external testing, \emph{e.g.}, with at least 2\% absolute Dice score improvement and 12\% average distance error reduction when compared to other state-of-the-art methods in the external testing.

Two Plaquette-Singlet Phases and Emergent SO(5) Deconfined Quantum Criticality in SrCu2(BO3)2

The deconfined quantum critical point (DQCP) has become a central open concept in the physics of quantum matter, and its proposed presence in the Shastry-Sutherland model was followed by the experimental observation of at least a minimal DQC scenario induced by an applied magnetic field in SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$. However, the nature of the plaquette-singlet phase in SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$ remains unresolved, and with it the identification of the DQCP symmetry from among several theoretical scenarios. Here we perform detailed high-pressure $^{11}$B NMR studies to reveal the presence of both the full-plaquette (FP) and empty-plaquette (EP) phases in SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$, phase-separated at a first-order, pressure-driven transition with a volume-fraction effect. The field-driven transition from the EP to the antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase complements our previous observations of the FP--AFM transition, with both showing deconfined quantum criticality, while the scaling of the spin-lattice relaxation rate near the EP--AFM transition, $1/T_1 \propto T^{0.6}$, suggests a DQCP governed by a different universality class. We discuss possible extensions to the Shastry-Sutherland model that account for these pressure and field effects. The expanded phase space we discover mandates an SO(5) DQCP symmetry, and hence our results take an important step towards a complete understanding of deconfined quantum criticality in SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$.

M3ANet: Multi-scale and Multi-Modal Alignment Network for Brain-Assisted Target Speaker Extraction

The brain-assisted target speaker extraction (TSE) aims to extract the attended speech from mixed speech by utilizing the brain neural activities, for example Electroencephalography (EEG). However, existing models overlook the issue of temporal misalignment between speech and EEG modalities, which hampers TSE performance. In addition, the speech encoder in current models typically uses basic temporal operations (e.g., one-dimensional convolution), which are unable to effectively extract target speaker information. To address these issues, this paper proposes a multi-scale and multi-modal alignment network (M3ANet) for brain-assisted TSE. Specifically, to eliminate the temporal inconsistency between EEG and speech modalities, the modal alignment module that uses a contrastive learning strategy is applied to align the temporal features of both modalities. Additionally, to fully extract speech information, multi-scale convolutions with GroupMamba modules are used as the speech encoder, which scans speech features at each scale from different directions, enabling the model to capture deep sequence information. Experimental results on three publicly available datasets show that the proposed model outperforms current state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics, highlighting the effectiveness of our proposed method. S3CE-Net: Spike-guided Spatiotemporal Semantic Coupling and Expansion Network for Long Sequence Event Re-Identification

In this paper, we leverage the advantages of event cameras to resist harsh lighting conditions, reduce background interference, achieve high time resolution, and protect facial information to study the long-sequence event-based person re-identification (Re-ID) task. To this end, we propose a simple and efficient long-sequence event Re-ID model, namely the Spike-guided Spatiotemporal Semantic Coupling and Expansion Network (S3CE-Net). To better handle asynchronous event data, we build S3CE-Net based on spiking neural networks (SNNs). The S3CE-Net incorporates the Spike-guided Spatial-temporal Attention Mechanism (SSAM) and the Spatiotemporal Feature Sampling Strategy (STFS). The SSAM is designed to carry out semantic interaction and association in both spatial and temporal dimensions, leveraging the capabilities of SNNs. The STFS involves sampling spatial feature subsequences and temporal feature subsequences from the spatiotemporal dimensions, driving the Re-ID model to perceive broader and more robust effective semantics. Notably, the STFS introduces no additional parameters and is only utilized during the training stage. Therefore, S3CE-Net is a low-parameter and high-efficiency model for long-sequence event-based person Re-ID. Extensive experiments have verified that our S3CE-Net achieves outstanding performance on many mainstream long-sequence event-based person Re-ID datasets. Effects of off-diagonal permittivity terms on polarization singularities in anisotropic grating system

The evolutions of polarization singularities, including bound states in the continuum (BICs) and circularly polarized states (C points), are usually realized by tuning the geometric parameters of photonic crystal slabs. Here, we use the off-diagonal terms of permittivity tensor to manipulate polarization singularities without breaking the structural symmetry in an anisotropic grating system. By controlling the optical axis of anisotropic media, BICs can be shifted to different positions or split into C points, meanwhile, the creation and annihilation of multiple C points are also observed during the evolution process for both TE and TM modes, respectively. Remarkably, two different splitting directions of BICs can be achieved by tuning the off-diagonal terms of permittivity tensor for the two modes. This work illustrates the important role of off-diagonal terms on the far-field polarization singularities and provide an alternative way to precisely manipulate optical singularities

S2R-Bench: A Sim-to-Real Evaluation Benchmark for Autonomous Driving

Safety is a long-standing and the final pursuit in the development of autonomous driving systems, with a significant portion of safety challenge arising from perception. How to effectively evaluate the safety as well as the reliability of perception algorithms is becoming an emerging issue. Despite its critical importance, existing perception methods exhibit a limitation in their robustness, primarily due to the use of benchmarks are entierly simulated, which fail to align predicted results with actual outcomes, particularly under extreme weather conditions and sensor anomalies that are prevalent in real-world scenarios. To fill this gap, in this study, we propose a Sim-to-Real Evaluation Benchmark for Autonomous Driving (S2R-Bench). We collect diverse sensor anomaly data under various road conditions to evaluate the robustness of autonomous driving perception methods in a comprehensive and realistic manner. This is the first corruption robustness benchmark based on real-world scenarios, encompassing various road conditions, weather conditions, lighting intensities, and time periods. By comparing real-world data with simulated data, we demonstrate the reliability and practical significance of the collected data for real-world applications. We hope that this dataset will advance future research and contribute to the development of more robust perception models for autonomous driving. P3P: Pseudo-3D Pre-training for Scaling 3D Voxel-based Masked Autoencoders

3D pre-training is crucial to 3D perception tasks. Nevertheless, limited by the difficulties in collecting clean and complete 3D data, 3D pre-training has persistently faced data scaling challenges. In this work, we introduce a novel self-supervised pre-training framework that incorporates millions of images into 3D pre-training corpora by leveraging a large depth estimation model. New pre-training corpora encounter new challenges in representation ability and embedding efficiency of models. Previous pre-training methods rely on farthest point sampling and k-nearest neighbors to embed a fixed number of 3D tokens. However, these approaches prove inadequate when it comes to embedding millions of samples that feature a diverse range of point numbers, spanning from 1,000 to 100,000. In contrast, we propose a tokenizer with linear-time complexity, which enables the efficient embedding of a flexible number of tokens. Accordingly, a new 3D reconstruction target is proposed to cooperate with our 3D tokenizer. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in 3D classification, few-shot learning, and 3D segmentation. Code is available at https://github.com/XuechaoChen/P3P-MAE.

ListenNet: A Lightweight Spatio-Temporal Enhancement Nested Network for Auditory Attention Detection

Auditory attention detection (AAD) aims to identify the direction of the attended speaker in multi-speaker environments from brain signals, such as Electroencephalography (EEG) signals. However, existing EEG-based AAD methods overlook the spatio-temporal dependencies of EEG signals, limiting their decoding and generalization abilities. To address these issues, this paper proposes a Lightweight Spatio-Temporal Enhancement Nested Network (ListenNet) for AAD. The ListenNet has three key components: Spatio-temporal Dependency Encoder (STDE), Multi-scale Temporal Enhancement (MSTE), and Cross-Nested Attention (CNA). The STDE reconstructs dependencies between consecutive time windows across channels, improving the robustness of dynamic pattern extraction. The MSTE captures temporal features at multiple scales to represent both fine-grained and long-range temporal patterns. In addition, the CNA integrates hierarchical features more effectively through novel dynamic attention mechanisms to capture deep spatio-temporal correlations. Experimental results on three public datasets demonstrate the superiority of ListenNet over state-of-the-art methods in both subject-dependent and challenging subject-independent settings, while reducing the trainable parameter count by approximately 7 times. Code is available at:https://github.com/fchest/ListenNet.

Universal enveloping H-pseudoalgebras of DGP pseudoalgebras

The notions of Poisson $H$-pseudoalgebras are generalizations of Poisson algebras in a pseudotensor category $\mathcal{M}^{\ast}(H)$. This paper introduces an analogue of Poisson-Ore extension in Poisson $H$-pseudoalgebras. Poisson $H$-pseudoalgebras with the differential graded setting induces the notions of differential graded Poisson $H$-pseudoalgebras (DGP pseudoalgebras, for short). The DGP pseudoalgebra with some compatibility conditions is proved to be closed under tensor product. Furthermore, the universal enveloping $H$-pseudoalgebras of DGP pseudoalgebras are constructed by a $\mathcal{P}$-triple. A unique differential graded pseudoalgebra homomorphism between a universal enveloping $H$-pseudoalgebra of a DGP pseudoalgebra and a $\mathcal{P}$-triple of a DGP pseudoalgebra is obtained.
