Mass structure of hadrons and light-front sum rules in t' Hooft model

We study the mass/energy structure of the bound state of hadrons in two-dimensional quantum chromodynamics in the large number of color limit (t' Hooft model). We analyze separately the contributions from the traceless and trace part of the energy-momentum tensor, and show that the masses are related to the matrix elements of the scalar charge and Coulomb energy. We derive the light-front sum rules for the scalar charge and Coulomb energy, expressed in terms of the light-front wave functions, and find that they are regular at $x=0$ without the delta function contribution. We also consider the result for the massless Goldstone boson, as well as the structure of the gravitational form factors of the bound meson states.

Small size instanton contributions to the quark quasi-PDF and matching kernel

We investigate the non-perturbative contribution of instantons to current matching kernels used in the context of the large momentum effective theory (LaMET). We derive explicitly these contributions using first principle semi-classical calculus for the unpolarized and polarized quark parton distributions and the matching kernel, and show that they are part of a trans-series expansion. These contributions are substantial at current lattice matching momenta.

A Hybrid Renormalization Scheme for Quasi Light-Front Correlations in Large-Momentum Effective Theory

In large-momentum effective theory (LaMET), calculating parton physics starts from calculating coordinate-space-$z$ correlation functions $\tilde h(z, a,P^z)$ in a hadron of momentum $P^z$ in lattice QCD. Such correlation functions involve both linear and logarithmic divergences in lattice spacing $a$, and thus need to be properly renormalized. We introduce a hybrid renormalization procedure to match these lattice correlations to those in the continuum $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme, without introducing extra non-perturbative effects at large $z$. We analyze the effect of ${\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD})$ ambiguity in the Wilson line self-energy subtraction involved in this hybrid scheme. To obtain the momentum-space distributions, we recommend to extrapolate the lattice data to the asymptotic $z$-region using the generic properties of the coordinate space correlations at moderate and large $P^z$, respectively.

Quantum Anomalous Energy Effects on the Nucleon Mass

Apart from the quark and gluon kinetic and potential energies, the nucleon mass includes a novel energy of pure quantum origin resulting from anomalous breaking of scale symmetry. We demonstrate the effects of this quantum anomalous energy (QAE) in QED, as well as in a toy 1+1 dimensional non-linear sigma model where it contributes non-perturbatively, in a way resembling the Higgs mechanism for the masses of matter particles in electro-weak theory. The QAE contribution to the nucleon mass can be explained using a similar mechanism, in terms of a dynamical response of the gluonic scalar field through Higgs-like couplings between the nucleon and scalar resonances. In addition, the QAE sets the scale for other energies in the nucleon through a relativistic virial theorem, and contributes a negative pressure to confine the colored quarks.

Single Transverse-Spin Asymmetry and Sivers Function in Large Momentum Effective Theory

We apply recent developments in large momentum effective theory (LaMET) to formulate a non-perturbative calculation of the single-transverse spin asymmetry in terms of the quasi transverse-momentum-dependent quark distribution functions from the so-called Sivers mechanism. When the spin asymmetry is defined as the ratio of the quark Sivers function over the spin averaged distribution, it can be directly calculated in terms of the relevant quasi distributions with the soft functions and perturbative matching kernels cancelling out. Apart from the general formula presented, we have verified the result in the small transverse distance limit at one-loop order, which reduces to a collinear expansion at twist-three level.

Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Parton Distribution Functions from Large-Momentum Effective Theory

We show that transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs), important non-perturbative quantities for describing the properties of hadrons in high-energy scattering processes such as Drell-Yan and semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering with observed small transverse momentum, can be obtained from Euclidean QCD calculations in the framework of large-momentum effective theory (LaMET). We present a LaMET factorization of the Euclidean quasi-TMDPDFs in terms of the physical TMDPDFs and off-light-cone soft function at leading order in $1/P^z$ expansion, with the perturbative matching coefficient satisfying a renormalization group equation. We also discuss the implementation in lattice QCD with finite-length gauge links as well as the rapidity-regularization-independent factorization for Drell-Yan cross section.

Lattice-QCD Calculations of TMD Soft Function Through Large-Momentum Effective Theory

The transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) soft function is a key ingredient in QCD factorization of Drell-Yan and other processes with relatively small transverse momentum. We present a lattice QCD study of this function at moderately large rapidity on a 2+1 flavor CLS dynamic ensemble with $a=0.098$ fm. We extract the rapidity-independent (or intrinsic) part of the soft function through a large-momentum-transfer pseudo-scalar meson form factor and its quasi-TMD wave function using leading-order factorization in large-momentum effective theory. We also investigate the rapidity-dependent part of the soft function---the Collins-Soper evolution kernel---based on the large-momentum evolution of the quasi-TMD wave function.

TMD Soft Function from Large-Momentum Effective Theory

We study Euclidean formulations of the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) soft function, which is a cross section for soft gluon radiations involving color charges moving in two conjugate lightcone directions in quantum chromodynamics. We show it is related to a special form factor of a pair of color sources traveling with nearly-lightlike velocities, which can be matched to TMD physical observables in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan process in the framework of large momentum effective theory. It can also be extracted by combining a large-momentum form factor of light meson and its leading TMD wave function. These formulations are useful for initiating nonperturbative calculations of this useful quantity.

Pion and Kaon parton distributions in the QCD instanton vacuum

We discuss a general diagrammatic description of n-point functions in the QCD instanton vacuum that resums planar diagrams, enforces gauge invariance and spontaneously broken chiral symmetry. We use these diagrammatic rules to derive the pion and kaon quasi-parton amplitude and distribution functions at leading order in the instanton packing fraction for large but finite momentum. The instanton and anti-instanton zero modes and non-zero modes are found to contribute to the quasi-distributions, but the latter are shown to drop out in the large momentum limit. The pertinent pion and kaon parton distribution amplitudes and functions are made explicit at the low renormalization scale fixed by the inverse instanton size. Assuming that factorization holds, the pion parton distributions are evolved to higher renormalization scales with one-loop DGLAP and compared to existing data.

Entanglement in Reggeized Scattering using AdS/CFT

The eikonalized parton-parton scattering amplitude at large $\sqrt{s}$ and large impact parameter, is dominated by the exchange of a hyperbolic surface in walled AdS. Its analytical continuation yields a worldsheet instanton that is at the origin of the Reggeization of the amplitude and a thermal-like quantum entropy ${\cal S}_T$. We explicitly construct the entangled density matrix following from the exchanged surface, and show that its von-Neumann entanglement entropy ${\cal S}_E$ coincides with the thermal-like entropy, i.e. ${\cal S}_T={\cal S}_E$. The ratio of the entanglement entropy to the transverse growth of the exchanged surface is similar to the Bekenstein entropy ratio for a black-hole, with a natural definition of saturation and the on-set of chaos in high energy collisions. The largest eigenvalues of the entangled density matrix obey a cascade equation in rapidity, reminiscent of non-linear QCD evolution of wee-dipoles at low-x and weak coupling. We suggest that the largest eigenvalues describe the probability distributions of wee-quanta at low-x and strong coupling that maybe measurable at present and future pp and ep colliders.

Heavy Holographic Exotics: Tetraquarks as Efimov States

We provide a holographic description of non-strange multiquark exotics as compact topological molecules by binding heavy-light mesons to a tunneling configuration in D8-D$\bar 8$ that is homotopic to the vacuum state with fixed Chern-Simons number. In the tunneling process, the heavy-light mesons transmute to fermions. Their binding is generic and arises from a trade-off between the dipole attraction induced by the Chern-Simons term and the U(1) fermionic repulsion. In the heavy quark limit, the open-flavor tetraquark exotics $QQ\bar q\bar q$ and $\bar Q\bar Q qq$, emerge as bound Efimov states in a degenerate multiplet $IJ^π=(00^+ , 01^+)$ with opposite intrinsic Chern-Simons numbers $\pm \frac 12$. The hidden-flavor tetraquark exotics such as $Q\bar Q q\bar q$, $QQ\bar Q\bar q$ and $QQ\bar Q\bar Q$ as compact topological molecules are unbound. Other exotics are also discussed.

Dense Instanton-Dyon Liquid Model: Diagrammatics

We revisit the instanton-dyon liquid model in the confined phase by using a non-linear Debye-Huckel (DH) resummation for the Coulomb interactions induced by the moduli, followed by a cluster expansion. The organization is shown to rapidly converge and yields center symmetry at high density. The dependence of these results on a finite vacuum angle are also discussed. We also formulate the hypernetted chain (HCN) resummation for the dense instanton-dyon liquid and use it to estimate the liquid pair correlation functions in the DH limit. At very low temperature, the dense limit interpolates between chains and rings of instanton-anti-instanton-dyons and a bcc crystal, with strong topological and magnetic correlations.

Rotating Dirac fermions in a magnetic field in 1+2,3 dimensions

We consider the effects of an external magnetic field on rotating fermions in 1+2,3 dimensions. The dual effect of a rotation parallel to the magnetic field causes a net increase in the fermionic density by centrifugation, which follows from the sinking of the particle lowest Landau level in the Dirac sea for free Dirac fermions. In 1+d = 2n dimensions, this effect is related to the chiral magnetic effect in 2n-2 dimensions. This phenomenon is discussed specifically for both weak and strong inter-fermion interactions in 1+2 dimensions. For QCD in 1+3 dimensions with Dirac quarks, we show that in the strongly coupled phase with spontaneously broken chiral symmetry, this mechanism reveals itself in the form of an induced pion condensation by centrifugation. We use this observation to show that this effect causes a shift in the chiral condensate in leading order, and to discuss the possibility for the formation of a novel pion super-fluid phase in present heavy ion collisions at collider energies.

Pion Condensation by Rotation in a Magnetic field

We show that the combined effects of a rotation plus a magnetic field can cause charged pion condensation. We suggest that this phenomenon may yield to observable effects in current heavy ion collisions at collider energies, where large magnetism and rotations are expected in off-central collisions.

Hydrodynamical corrections to electromagnetic emissivities in QCD

We provide a general framework for the derivation of the hydrodynamical corrections to the QCD electromagnetic emissivities in a viscous fluid. Assuming that the emission times are short in comparison to the fluid evolution time, we show that the leading corrections in the fluid gradients are controlled by the bulk and shear tensors times pertinent response functions involving the energy-momentum tensor. In a hadronic fluid phase, we explicit these contributions using spectral functions. Using the vector dominance approximation, we show that the bulk viscosity correction to the photon rate is sizable, while the shear viscosity is negligible for about all frequencies. In the partonic phase near the transition temperature we provide an assessment of the viscous corrections to the photon and dilepton emissions, using a non-perturbative quark-gluon plasma with soft thermal gluonic corrections in the form of operators of leading mass dimension. Again, the thermal bulk viscosity corrections are found to be larger than the thermal shear viscosity corrections at all energies for both the photon and dilepton in the partonic phase.

Heavy and Strange Holographic Baryons

We extend the $D4$-$D8$ holographic construction to include three chiral and one heavy flavor, to describe heavy-light baryons with strangeness and their exotics. At strong coupling, the heavy meson always binds to the bulk instanton in the form of a flavor zero mode in the fundamental representation. We quantize the ensuing bound states using the collective quantization method, to obtain the spectra of heavy and strange baryons with both explicit and hidden charm and bottom. Our results confirm the existence of two low-lying charmed penta-quark states with $\frac 12^-,\frac 32^-$ assignments, and predict many new ones with both charm and bottom. They also suggest a quartet of low-lying neutral $Ω_c^0$ with assignments $\frac 12^\pm ,\frac 32^\pm$ that are heavier than the quintuplet of neutral $Ω_c^0$ recently reported by LHCb.

Heavy Baryons and their Exotics from Instantons in Holographic QCD

We use a variant of the $D4$-$D8$ construction that includes two chiral and one heavy meson, to describe heavy-light baryons and their exotics as heavy mesons bound to a flavor instanton in bulk. At strong coupling, the heavy meson is shown to {\it always bind} in the form of a flavor instanton zero mode in the fundamental representation. The ensuing instanton moduli for the heavy baryons exhibits both chiral and heavy quark symmetry. We detail how to quantize it, and derive model independent mass relations for heavy bayons with a single-heavy quark in leading order, in overall agreement with the reported baryonic spectra with one charm or bottom. We also discuss the low-lying masses and quantum assignments for the even and odd parity states, some of which are yet to be observed. We extend our analysis to double-heavy pentaquarks with hidden charm and bottom. In leading order, we find a pair of doube-heavy iso-doublets with $IJ^π=\frac 12 {\frac 12}^-, \frac 12 {\frac 32}^-$ assignments for all heavy flavor combinations. We also find five new Delta-like pentaquark states with $IJ^π=\frac 32 {\frac 12}^-, \frac 32 {\frac 32}^-, \frac 32 {\frac 52}^-$ assignments for both charm and bottom.
