Floer cohomology and disc instantons of Lagrangian torus fibers in Fano toric manifolds

In this paper, we first provide an explicit description of {\it all} holomorphic discs (``disc instantons'') attached to Lagrangian torus fibers of arbitrary compact toric manifolds, and prove their Fredholm regularity. Using this, we compute Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono's (FOOO's) obstruction (co)chains and the Floer cohomology of Lagrangian torus fibers of Fano toric manifolds. In particular specializing to the formal parameter $T^{2π} = e^{-1}$, our computation verifies the folklore that FOOO's obstruction (co)chains correspond to the Landau-Ginzburg superpotentials under the mirror symmetry correspondence, and also proves the prediction made by K. Hori about the Floer cohomology of Lagrangian torus fibers of Fano toric manifolds. The latter states that the Floer cohomology (for the parameter value $T^{2π} = e^{-1}$) of all the fibers vanish except at a finite number, the Euler characteristic of the toric manifold, of base points in the momentum polytope that are critical points of the superpotential of the Landau-Ginzburg mirror to the toric manifold. In the latter cases, we also prove that the Floer cohomology of the corresponding fiber is isomorphic to its singular cohomology. We also introduce a restricted version of the Floer cohomology of Lagrangian submanifolds, which is a priori more flexible to define in general, and which we call the {\it adapted Floer cohomology}. We then prove that the adapted Floer cohomology of any non-singular torus fiber of Fano toric manifolds is well-defined, invariant under the Hamiltonian isotopy and isomorphic to the Bott-Morse Floer cohomology of the fiber.

Mini-max theory, spectral invariants and geometry of the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group

In this paper, we first develop a mini-max theory of the action functional over the semi-infinite cycles via the chain level Floer homology theory and construct spectral invariants of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms on arbitrary compact symplectic manifold (M,omega). To each given time dependent Hamiltonian function H and quantum cohomology class 0 not equal a element of QH^*(M), we associate an invariant rho(H;a) which varies continuously over H in the C^0-topology. This is obtained as the mini-max value over the semi-infinite cycles whose homology class is `dual' to the given quantum cohomology class a on the covering space \widetilde Omega_0(M) of the contractible loop space Omega_0(M). We call them the Novikov cycles. We then use the spectral invariants to construct a new invariant norm on the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group and a partial order on the set of time-dependent Hamiltonian functions of arbitrary compact symplectic manifolds. As some applications, we obtain a new lower bound of the Hofer norm of non-degenerate Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms in terms of the area of certain pseudo-holomorphic curves and prove the semi-global C^1-flatness of the Hofer norm.

Normalization of the Hamiltonian and the action spectrum

In this paper, we prove that the two well-known natural normalizations of Hamiltonian functions on the symplectic manifold $(M,ω)$ canonically relates the action spectra of different normalized Hamiltonians on {\it arbitrary} symplectic manifolds $(M,ω)$. The natural class of normalized Hamiltonians consists of those whose mean value is zero for the closed manifold, and those which are compactly supported in $\text{Int} M$ for the open manifold. We also study the effect of the action spectrum under the $π_1$ of Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group. This forms a foundational basis for our study of spectral invariants of the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism in [Oh4].

Chain level Floer theory and Hofer's geometry of the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group

In this paper we first apply the chain level Floer theory to the study of Hofer's geometry of Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group in the cases without quantum contribution: we prove that any quasi-autonomous Hamiltonian path on weakly exact symplectic manifolds or any autonomous Hamiltonian path on arbitrary symplectic manifolds is length minimizing in its homotopy class with fixed ends, as long as it has a fixed maximum and a fixed minimum which are not over-twisted and all of its contractible periodic orbits of period less than one are sufficiently $C^1$-small. Next we give a construction of new invariant norm of Viterbo's type on the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group of arbitrary compact symplectic manifolds.

Floer homology and its continuity for non-compact Lagrangian submanifolds

We give a construction of the Floer homology of the pair of {\it non-compact} Lagrangian submanifolds, which satisfies natural continuity property under the Hamiltonian isotopy which moves the infinity but leaves the intersection set of the pair compact. This construction uses the concept of Lagrangian cobordism and certain singular Lagrangian submanifolds. We apply this construction to conormal bundles (or varieties) in the cotangent bundle, and relate it to a conjecture made by MacPherson on the intersection theory of the characteristic Lagrangian cycles associated to the perverse sheaves constructible to a complex stratification on the complex algebraic manifold.
