Observing dynamic oscillatory behavior of triple points among black hole thermodynamic phase transitions

Understanding the dynamic process of black hole thermodynamic phase transitions at a triple point is a huge challenge. In this letter, we carry out the first investigation of dynamical phase behaviour at a black hole triple point. By numerically solving the Smoluchowski equation near the triple point for a six-dimensional charged Gauss-Bonnet anti-de Sitter black hole, we find that initial small, intermediate, or large black holes can transit to the other two coexistent phases at the triple point, indicating that thermodynamic phase transitions can indeed occur dynamically. More significantly, we observe characteristic weak and strong oscillatory behaviour in this dynamic process, which can be understood from an investigation of the rate of first passage from one phase to another. Our results further an understanding of the dynamic process of black hole thermodynamic phase transitions.

Dynamic properties of thermodynamic phase transition for five-dimensional neutral Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole on free energy landscape

Understanding the dynamic process of the thermodynamic phase transition can provide the deep insight into the black hole microscopic properties and structures. We in this paper study the dynamic properties of the stable small-large black hole phase transition for the five-dimensional neutral Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole. Firstly, by using the first law of black holes, we prove that the extremal points of the free energy on the landscape denote the real black hole solutions satisfying the field equations. The local maximal and minimal points correspond to local unstable and stable black hole states, respectively. Especially, on the free energy landscape, the wells of the coexistence small and large black holes have the same depth. Then we investigate the probability evolution governed by the Fokker-Planck equation. Due to the thermal fluctuation, we find that the small (large) black hole state can transit to the large (small) black hole state. Furthermore, the first passage time is calculated. For each temperature, a single peak is presented, which suggests that there is a considerable fraction of the first passage events taking place at short time. And the higher the temperature is, the faster decrease of the probability is. These results will uncover some intriguing dynamic properties of the stable small-large black hole phase transition in modified gravity.

Dark Information in Black Hole with $λφ$ Fluid

It has been shown that the nonthermal spectrum of Hawking radiation will lead to information-carrying correlations between emitted particles in the radiation. The mutual information carried by such correlations can not be locally observed and hence is dark. With dark information, the black hole information is conserved. In this paper, we look for the spherically symmetric black hole solution in a $λφ$ fluid model and investigate the radiation spectrum and dark information of the black hole. The spacetime structure of this black hole is similar to that of the Schwarzschild one, while its horizon radius is decreased by the $λφ$ fluid. By using the statistical mechanical method, the nonthermal radiation spectrum is calculated. This radiation spectrum is very different from the Schwarzschild case at its last stage because of the effect of the $λφ$ fluid. The $λφ$ fluid reduces the lifetime of the black hole, but increases the dark information of the Hawking radiation.

Motion of test particle in rotating boson star

Motion of a test particle plays an important role in understanding the properties of a spacetime. As a new type of the strong gravity system, boson stars could mimic black holes located at the center of galaxies. Studying the motion of a test particle in the spacetime of a rotating boson star will provide the astrophysical observable effects if a boson star is located at the center of a galaxy. In this paper, we investigate the timelike geodesic of a test particle in the background of a rotating boson star with angular number $m=(1, 2, 3)$. With the change of angular number and frequency, a rotating boson star will transform from the low rotating state to the highly relativistic rapidly rotating state, the corresponding Lense-Thirring effects will be more and more significant and it should be studied in detail. By solving the four-velocity of a test particle and integrating the geodesics, we investigate the bound orbits with a zero and nonzero angular momentum. We find that a test particle can stay more longer time in the central region of a boson star when the boson star becomes from low rotating state to highly relativistic rotating state. Comparing the periapse values of the orbits obtained in rotating boson stars and the corresponding orbits of the observed stars orbiting Sagittarius $A^*$, we discuss the possible observable effects of the astrophysical boson star in the Galactic center.

Gravitational radiation pulses from Extreme-Mass-Ratio-Inspiral system with a supermassive boson star

Future space-borne gravitational-wave detectors will observe the gravitational waves in the milli-Hz. Extreme-mass-ratio inspirals with central supermassive black holes are very important sources that could provide the information of the vicinity of black holes. The event horizon separates the inner region of a black hole and there is nothing that can escape from this region. When the central supermassive compact object is a regular and horizonless rotating boson star, a small body could pass through the center and follow novel types of orbits. These will generate the gravitational waves that can not be obtained in the scenario corresponding to an extreme-mass-ratio inspiral with a central supermassive black hole. This can be used to examine whether a supermassive rotating boson star is present at the centers of galaxies. In this work, we consider an extreme-mass-ratio inspiral system described by a small compact object inspiralling into a central supermassive rotating boson star. Integrating four types of special equatorial geodesics and using the numerical kludge method with quadrupole approximation, we obtain the corresponding gravitational waveforms and find that there are high-frequency gravitational radiation pulses in such system. The frequencies of the gravitational radiation pulses could be in the magnitude of $10^{-1}$Hz and the whole gravitational wave parts are in the milli-Hz. By assuming the masses of the central supermassive rotating boson star and small compact object to be $10^6 M_\odot$ and $10 M_\odot$ and assuming a distance of $1\text{Gpc}$, we show that the gravitational radiation pulses could be detected by the space-borne gravitational-wave detectors. Our results will provide a possible evidence to distinguish the astrophysical compact objects in the galactic centers.

Rotating hybrid axion-miniboson stars

We construct rotating hybrid axion-miniboson stars (RHABSs), which are asymptotically flat, stationary, axially symmetric solutions of (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Klein-Gordon theory. RHABSs consist of a axion field (ground state) and a free complex scalar field (first excited state). The solutions of the RHABSs have two types of nodes, including $^1S^2S$ state and $^1S^2P$ state. For different axion decay constants $f_a$, we present the mass $M$ of RHABSs as a function of the synchronized frequency $ω$, as well as the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$, and explore the mass $M$ versus the angular momentum $J$ for the synchronized frequency $ω$ and the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$ respectively. Furthermore, we study the effect of axion decay constant $f_a$ and scalar mass $μ_2$ on the existence domain of the synchronized frequency $ω$.

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the novel $4D$ charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole with test scalar field and particle

Recent researches of the novel $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity have attracted great attention. In this paper, we investigate the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for a novel $4D$ charged EGB black hole with test charged scalar field and test charged particle respectively. For the test charged field scattering process, we find that both extremal and near-extremal black holes cannot be overcharged. For the test charged particle injection, to first order, an extremal black hole cannot be overcharged while a near-extremal $4D$ charged EGB black hole can be destroyed. To second order, however, both extremal and near-extremal $4D$ charged EGB black holes can be overcharged for positive Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant; for negative Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant, an extremal black hole cannot be overcharged and the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for a near-extremal black hole depends on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant.

Equivalence of solutions between the four-dimensional novel and regularized EGB theories in a cylindrically symmetric spacetime

Recently, a novel four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) theory was presented to bypass the Lovelock's theorem and to give nontrivial effects on the four-dimensional local gravity. The main mechanism is to introduce a redefinition $α\rightarrowα/(D-4)$ and to take the limit $D\rightarrow4$. However, this theory does not have standard four-dimensional field equations. Some regularization procedures are then proposed to address this problem [arXiv:2003.11552, arXiv:2003.12771, arXiv:2004.08362, arXiv:2004.09472, arXiv:2004.10716]. The resultant regularized four-dimensional EGB theory has the same on-shell action as the original theory. Thus it is expected that the novel four-dimensional EGB theory is equivalent to its regularized version. However, the equivalence of these two theories is symmetry-dependent. In this paper, we test the equivalence in a cylindrically symmetric spacetime. The well-defined field equations of the two theories are obtained, with which our follow-up analysis shows that they are equivalent in such spacetime. Cylindrical cosmic strings are then considered as specific examples of the metric. Three sets of solutions are obtained and the corresponding string mass densities are evaluated. The results reveal how the Gauss-Bonnet term in four dimensions contributes to the string geometry in the new theory.

Excited states of holographic superconductors from massive gravity

In this paper, we generalize the study of the model of holographic superconductor in the excited states to the framework of massive gravity. By taking into account the effect of massive graviton, we numerically present a family of solutions of the holographic superconductor in excited states, and find that the critical temperatures can be higher due to the effect of massive graviton comparing with the superconductor in Einstein gravity. We also investigate the condensates and conductivities in the ground state and the excited states with studying various parameters that determine the framework of gravity background.

Holographic flows with scalar self-interaction toward the Kasner universe

Considering a thermal state of the dual CFT with a uniform deformation by a scalar operator, we study a holographic renormalization group flow at nonzero temperature in the bulk described by the Einstein-scalar field theory with the self-interaction term $λϕ^4$ in asymptotic anti-de Sitter spacetime. We show that the holographic flow with the self-interaction term could run smoothly through the event horizon of a black hole and deform the Schwarzschild singularity to a Kasner universe at late times. Furthermore, we also study the effect of the scalar self-interaction on the deformed near-singularity Kasner exponents and the relationship between entanglement velocity and Kasner singularity exponents at late times.

Nonequilibrium dynamical transition process between excited states of holographic superconductors

We study the dynamics of the holographic $s$-wave superconductors described by the Einstein-Maxwell-complex scalar field theory with a negative cosmological constant. If the eigenfunction of the linearized equation of motion of the scalar field in the planar RNAdS black hole background is chosen as the initial data, the bulk system will evolve to the intermediate state that corresponds to the excited state superconductor on the boundary. The process can be regarded as the non-equilibrium condensation process of the excited state of holographic superconductor. When the linear superposition of the eigenfunctions is chosen as the initial data, the system will go through a series of the intermediate states corresponding to different overtone numbers, which can be regarded as the dynamical transition process between the excited states of holographic superconductor. Because the intermediate states are metastable, the bulk system eventually evolves to the stationary state that corresponds the ground state of the holographic superconductor. We also provide a global and physical picture of the evolution dynamics of the black hole and the corresponding superconducting phase transition from the funneled landscape view, quantifying the weights of the states and characterizing the transitions and cascades towards the ground state.

Weak cosmic censorship with self-interacting scalar and bound on charge to mass ratio

We study the model of Einstein-Maxwell theory minimally coupling to a massive charged self-interacting scalar field, parameterized by the quartic and hexic coupling, labelled by $λ$ and $β$, respectively. In the absence of scalar field, there is a class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship. Moveover, we investigate the properties of full nonlinear solution with nonzero scalar field, and argue that, by assuming massive charged self-interacting scalar field with sufficiently large charge above one certain bound, these counterexamples can be removed. In particular, this bound on charge for self-interacting scalar field is no longer equal to the weak gravity bound for free scalar case. In the quartic case, the bounds are below free scalar case for $λ<0$, while above free scalar case for $λ>0$. Meanwhile, in the hexic case, the bounds are above free scalar case for both $β>0$ and $β<0$.

Self-interacting multistate boson stars

In this paper, we consider rotating multistate boson stars with quartic self-interactions. In contrast to the nodeless quartic-boson stars in \cite{Herdeiro:2015tia}, the self-interacting multistate boson stars (SIMBSs) have two types of nodes, including the $^1S^2S$ and $^1S^2P$ states. We show the mass $M$ of SIMBSs as a function of the synchronized frequency $ω$, and the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$ for three different cases. Moreover, for the case of two coexisting states with self-interacting potential, we study the mass $M$ of SIMBSs versus the angular momentum $J$ for the synchronized frequency $ω$ and the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$. Furthermore, for three different cases, we analyze the coexisting phase with both the ground and first excited states for SIMBSs. We also calculate the maximum value of coupling parameter $Λ$, and find the coupling parameter $Λ$ exists the finite range.

Excited states of holographic superconductors

In this paper we re-investigate the model of the anti-de Sitter gravity coupled to Maxwell and charged scalar fields, which has been studied as the gravitational dual to a superconductor for a long time since the famous work [Phys.\ Rev.\ Lett.\ {\bf 101}, 031601 (2008)]. By numerical method, we present a novel family of solutions of holographical superconductor with excited states, and find there exists a lower critical temperature in the corresponding excited state. Moreover, we study the condensate and conductivity in the excited states. It is very interesting that the conductivity $σ$ of each excited state has an additional pole in $\text{Im}[σ]$ and a delta function in $\text{Re}[σ]$ arising at the low temperature inside the gap, which is just the evidence of the existence of excited states.

Rotating multistate boson stars

In this paper, we construct rotating boson stars composed of the coexisting states of two scalar fields, including the ground and first excited states. We show the coexisting phase with both the ground and first excited states for rotating multistate boson stars. In contrast to the solutions of the nodeless boson stars, the rotating boson stars with two states have two types of nodes, including the $^1S^2S$ state and the $^1S^2P$ state. Moreover, we explore the properties of the mass $M$ of rotating boson stars with two states as a function of the synchronized frequency $ω$, as well as the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$. Finally, we also study the dependence of the mass $M$ of rotating boson stars with two states on angular momentum for both the synchronized frequency $ω$ and the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$.

Collision of two kinks with inner structure

In this work, we study kink collisions in a scalar field model with scalar-kinetic coupling. This model supports kink/antikink solutions with inner structure in the energy density. The collision of two such kinks is simulated by using the Fourier spectral method. We numerically calculate how the critical velocity and the widths of the first three two bounce windows vary with the model parameters. After that, we report some interesting collision results including two-bion escape final states, kink-bion-antikink intermediate states and kink or antikink intertwined final states. These results show that kinks with inner structure in the energy density have similar properties as those of the double kinks.

Excited states of holographic superconductors with backreaction

In this paper we investigate the model of the anti-de Sitter gravity coupled to a Maxwell field and a free, complex scalar field, and construct a fully back-reacted holographic model of superconductor with excited states. With the fixed charge $q$, there exist a series of excited states of holographic superconductor with the corresponding critical chemical potentials. The condensates as functions of the temperature for the two operators $\mathcal{O}_1$ and $\mathcal{O}_2$ of excited states are also studied. For the optical conductivity in the excited states, we find that there exist the additional peaks in the imaginary and real parts of the conductivity. Moreover, the number of peaks corresponding to $n$-th excited state is equal to $n$.

Deforming charged black holes with dipolar differential rotation boundary

Motivated by the recent studies of the novel asymptotically global AdS$_4$ black hole with deforming horizon, we consider the action of Einstein-Maxwell gravity in AdS spacetime and construct the charged deforming AdS black holes with differential boundary. In contrast to deforming black hole without charge, there exists at least one value of horizon for an arbitrary temperature. The extremum of temperature is determined by charge $q$ and divides the range of temperature into several parts. Moreover, we use an isometric embedding in the three-dimensional space to investigate the horizon geometry. We also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of deforming charged AdS black hole. It is interesting to find there exist two families of black hole solutions with different horizon radius for a fixed temperature, but these two black holes have same horizon geometry and entropy. Due to the existence of charge $q$, the phase diagram of entropy is more complicated.
