Deforming black holes with odd multipolar differential rotation boundary

Motivated by the novel asymptotically global AdS$_4$ solutions with deforming horizon in [JHEP {\bf 1802}, 060 (2018)], we analyze the boundary metric with odd multipolar differential rotation and numerically construct a family of deforming solutions with tripolar differential rotation boundary, including two classes of solutions: solitons and black holes. We find that the maximal values of the rotation parameter $\varepsilon$, below which the stable large black hole solutions could exist, are not a constant for $T> T_{schw}=\sqrt{3}/2π\simeq0.2757$. When temperature is much higher than $ T_{schw}$, even though the norm of Killing vector $\partial_{t}$ keeps timelike for some regions of $\varepsilon<2$, solitons and black holes with tripolar differential rotation could be unstable and develop hair due to superradiance. As the temperature $T$ drops toward $T_{schw}$, we find that though there exists the spacelike Killing vector $\partial_{t}$ for some regions of $\varepsilon>2$, solitons and black holes still exist and do not develop hair due to superradiance. Moreover, for $T\leqslant T_{schw}$, the curves of entropy firstly combine into one curve and then separate into two curves again, in the case of each curve there are two solutions at a fixed value of $\varepsilon$. In addition, we study the deformations of horizon for black holes by using an isometric embedding in the hyperbolic three-dimensional space. Furthermore, we also study the quasinormal modes of the solitons and black holes, which have analogous behaviours to that of dipolar rotation and quadrupolar rotation.

Weak cosmic censorship in Born-Infeld electrodynamics and bound on charge-to-mass ratio

We construct a class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship in four dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld theory with asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions, and investigate the effect of the Born-Infeld parameter $b$ in comparison with the counterpart of Einstein-Maxwell theory. When a charged massive scalar field is included into the action, we find that this class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship would be removed if the charge of scalar fields is above the minimum value of charge $q_{min}$. In particular, the minimum value of charge required to preserve cosmic censorship increases with the increasing of Born-Infeld parameter. Meanwhile, we also show the lower bounds on charge-to-mass ratio with the different values of Born-Infeld parameter.

Deforming black holes with even multipolar differential rotation boundary

Motivated by the novel asymptotically global AdS$_4$ solutions with deforming horizon in [JHEP {\bf 1802}, 060 (2018)], we analyze the boundary metric with even multipolar differential rotation and numerically construct a family of deforming solutions with quadrupolar differential rotation boundary, including two classes of solutions: solitons and black holes. In contrast to solutions with dipolar differential rotation boundary, we find that even though the norm of Killing vector $\partial_t$ becomes spacelike for certain regions of polar angle $θ$ when $\varepsilon>2$, solitons and black holes with quadrupolar differential rotation still exist and do not develop hair due to superradiance. Moreover, at the same temperature, the horizonal deformation of quadrupolar rotation is smaller than that of dipolar rotation. Furthermore, we also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of the solutions, which have the analogous properties to that of dipolar rotation.

Probing the relationship between the null geodesics and thermodynamic phase transition for rotating Kerr-AdS black holes

In this paper, we aim to examine the relationship between the unstable circular photon orbit and the thermodynamic phase transition for a rotating Kerr-AdS black hole. On one side, we give a brief review of the phase transition for the Kerr-AdS black hole. The coexistence curve and the metastable curve corresponding to the phase transition are clearly shown. On the other side, we calculate the radius and the angular momentum of the unstable circular orbits for a photon by analyzing the effective potential. Then combining these two sides, we find the following results. i) The radius and the angular momentum of the unstable circular photon orbits demonstrate the non-monotonic behaviors when the thermodynamic phase transition takes place. So from the behavior of the circular orbit, one can determine whether there exists a thermodynamic phase transition. ii) The difference of the radius or the angular momentum for the coexistence small and large black holes can be treated as an order parameter to describe the phase transition. And near the critical point, it has a critical exponent of $\frac{1}{2}$. iii) The temperature and pressure corresponding to the extremal points of the radius or the angular momentum of the unstable circular photon orbit completely agree with that of the metastable curves from the thermodynamic side. Thus, these results confirm the relationship between the geodesics and thermodynamic phase transition for the Kerr-AdS black hole. Therefore, on one hand, we are allowed to probe the thermodynamic phase transition from the gravity side. On the other hand, the signature of the strong gravitational effect can also be revealed from the black hole thermodynamics.

Excited Kerr black holes with scalar hair

In the context of complex scalar field coupled to Einstein gravity theory, we present a novel family of solutions of Kerr black holes with excited-state scalar hair inspired by the work of Herdeiro and Radu in [Phys.\ Rev.\ Lett.\ {\bf 112}, 221101 (2014)], which can be regarded as numerical solutions of rotating compact objects with excited scalar hair, including boson stars and black holes. In contrast to Kerr black holes with ground state scalar hair, we find that the first-excited Kerr black holes with scalar hair have two types of nodes, including radial $n_r=1$ and angular $n_θ=1$ nodes. Moreover, in the case of radial nodes the curves of the mass versus the frequency form nontrivial loops, and in the case of angular nodes the curves can be divided into two kinds: closed and open loops. We also study the dependence of the horizon area on angular momentum and Hawking temperature.

Intertwined order and holography: the case of the parity breaking pair density wave

We present a minimal bottom-up extension of the Chern-Simons bulk action for holographic translational symmetry breaking that naturally gives rise to pair density waves. We construct stationary inhomogeneous black hole solutions in which both the U(1) symmetry and spatially translational symmetry are spontaneously broken at finite temperature and charge density. This novel solution provides a dual description of a superconducting phase intertwined with charge, current and parity orders.

Probing extra dimension through gravitational wave observations of compact binaries and their electromagnetic counterparts

The future gravitational wave (GW) observations of compact binaries and their possible electromagnetic counterparts may be used to probe the nature of the extra dimension. It is widely accepted that gravitons and photons are the only two completely confirmed objects that can travel along null geodesics in our four-dimensional space-time. However, if there exist extra dimensions and only GWs can propagate freely in the bulk, the causal propagations of GWs and electromagnetic waves (EMWs) are in general different. In this paper, we study null geodesics of GWs and EMWs in a five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space-time in the presence of the curvature of the universe. We show that for general cases the horizon radius of GW is longer than EMW within equal time. Taking the GW150914 event detected by the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory and the X-ray event detected by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor as an example, we study how the curvature $k$ and the constant curvature radius $l$ affect the horizon radii of GW and EMW in the de Sitter and Einstein-de Sitter models of the universe. This provides an alternative method for probing extra dimension through future GW observations of compact binaries and their electromagnetic counterparts.

Photon emission of extremal Kerr-Newman black holes

In this paper, we deal with the null geodesics extending from the near-horizon region out to a distant observatory in an extremal Kerr-Newman black hole background. In particular, using the matched asymptotic expansion method, we analytically solve the null geodesics near the superradiant bound in the form of algebraic equations. For the case that the photon trajectories are limited in the equatorial plane, the shifts in the azimuthal angle and time are obtained.

Holographic s-wave and p-wave Josephson junction with backreaction

In this paper, we study the holographic models of s-wave and p-wave Josephoson junction away from probe limit in (3+1)-dimensional spacetime, respectively. With the backreaction of the matter, we obtained the anisotropic black hole solution with the condensation of matter fields. We observe that the critical temperature of Josephoson junction decreases with increasing backreaction. In addition to this, the tunneling current and condenstion of Josephoson junction become smaller as backreaction grows larger, but the relationship between current and phase difference still holds for sine function. Moreover, condenstion of Josephoson junction deceases with increasing width of junction exponentially.

Holographic model of hybrid and coexisting s-wave and p-wave Josephson junction

In this paper the holographic model for hybrid and coexisting s-wave and p-wave Josephson junction is constructed by a triplet charged scalar field coupled with a non-Abelian $SU(2)$ gauge fields in (3+1)-dimensional AdS spacetime. Depending on the value of chemical potential $μ$, one can show that there are four types of junctions (s+p-N-s+p, s+p-N-s, s+p-N-p and s-N-p). We show that DC current of all the hybrid and coexisting s-wave and p-wave junctions is proportional to the sine of the phase difference across the junction. In addition, the maximum current and the total condensation decays with the width of junction exponentially, respectively. For s+p-N-s and s-N-p junction, the maximum current decreases with growing temperature. Moreover, we find that the maximum current increases with growing temperature for s+p-N-s+p and s+p-N-p junction, which is in the different manner as the behaviour of s+p-N-s and s-N-p junction.

Non-relativistic Josephson Junction from Holography

We construct a Josephson junction in non-relativistic case with a Lifshitz geometry as the dual gravity. We investigate the effect of the Lifshitz scaling in comparison with its relativistic counterpart. The standard sinusoidal relation between the current and the phase difference is found for various Lifshitz scalings characterised by the dynamical critical exponent. We also find the exponential decreasing relation between the condensate of the scalar operator within the barrier at zero current and the width of the weak link, as well as the relation between the critical current and the width. Nevertheless, the coherence lengths obtained from two exponential decreasing relations generically have discrepancies for non-relativistic dual.

Competition between s-wave order and d-wave order in holographic superconductors

We study competition between s-wave order and d-wave order through two holographic superconductor models. We find that once the coexisting phase appears, it is always thermodynamically favored, and that the coexistence phase is narrow and one condensate tends to kill the other. The phase diagram is constructed for each model in terms of temperature and the ratio of charges of two orders. We further compare the behaviors of some thermodynamic quantities, and discuss the different aspects and identical ones between two models.

A holographic model of SQUID

We construct a holographic model of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) in the Einstein-Maxwell-complex scalar theory with a negative cosmological constant. The SQUID ring consists of two Josephson junctions which sit on two sides of a compactified spatial direction of a Schwarzschild-AdS black brane. These two junctions interfere with each other and then result in a total current depending on the magnetic flux, which can be deduced from the phase differences of the two Josephson junctions. The relation between the total current and the magnetic flux is obtained numerically.

Brane worlds in critical gravity

Recently, Lu and Pope proposed critical gravities in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 181302 (2011)]. In this paper we construct analytic brane solutions in critical gravity with matter. The Gibbons-Hawking surface term and junction condition are investigated, and the thin and thick brane solutions are obtained. All these branes are embedded in five-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetimes. Our solutions are stable against scalar perturbations, and the zero modes of scalar perturbations cannot be localized on the branes.

Linear growth of entanglement entropy in holographic thermalization captured by horizon interiors and mutual information

We study the holographic entanglement entropy in a homogeneous falling shell background, which is dual to the strongly coupled field theory following a global quench. For d=2 conformal field theories, it is known that the entropy has a linear growth regime if the scale of the entangling region is large. In addition, the growth rate approaches a constant when the scale increases. We demonstrate analytically that this behavior is directly related to the part of minimal area surface probing the interior of apparent horizons in the bulk, as well as the mutual information between two disjoint rectangular subsystems in the boundary. Furthermore, we show numerically that all the results are universal for the d=3 conformal field theory, the non-relativistic scale-invariant theory and the dual theory of Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

Competition and Coexistence of Order Parameters in Holographic Multi-Band Superconductors

We construct a holographic multi-band superconductor model with each complex scalar field in the bulk minimally coupled to a same gauge field. Taking into account the back reaction of matter fields on the background geometry and focusing on the two band case with two scalar order parameters, we find that depending on the strength of the back reaction and the charge ratio of the two bulk scalars, five different superconducting phases exist, and three of five phases exhibit some region where both orders coexist and are thermodynamically favored. The other two superconducting phases have only one scalar order. The model exhibits rich phase structure and we construct the full diagram for the five superconducting phases. Our analysis indicates that the equivalent attractive interaction mediated by gravity between the two order parameters tends to make the coexistence of two orders much more easy rather than more difficult.

Half-filled Kondo lattice on the honeycomb lattice

The unique linear density of state around the Dirac points for the honeycomb lattice brings much novel features in strongly correlated models. Here we study the ground-state phase diagram of the Kondo lattice model on the honeycomb lattice at half-filling by using an extended mean-field theory. By treating magnetic interaction and Kondo screening on an equal footing, it is found that besides a trivial discontinuous first-order quantum phase transition between well-defined Kondo insulator and antiferromagnetic insulating state, there can exist a wide coexistence region with both Kondo screening and antiferromagnetic orders in the intermediate coupling regime. In addition, the stability of Kondo insulator requires a minimum strength of the Kondo coupling. These features are attributed to the linear density of state, which are absent in the square lattice. Furthermore, fluctuation effect beyond the mean-field decoupling is analyzed and the corresponding antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave transition falls into the O(3) universal class. Comparatively, we also discuss the Kondo necklace and the Kane-Mele-Kondo (KMK) lattice models on the same lattice. Interestingly, it is found that the topological insulating state is unstable to the usual antiferromagnetic ordered states at half-filling for the KMK model. The present work may be helpful for further studies on the interplay between conduction electrons and the densely localized spins on the honeycomb lattice.

Topological antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave phase in an extended Kondo lattice model

By using an extended mean-field theory, we study the phase diagram of the topological Kondo lattice model on the honeycomb lattice at half-filling in which the conduction electrons are described by the Haldane model. Besides the well-defined Kondo insulator and normal antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave (N-SDW) state, it is found that a nontrivial topological antiferromagnetic SDW state (T-SDW) with a quantized Hall conductance is possible if the quasiparticle gap is dominated by the next-nearest-neighbor hopping rather than the antiferromagnetic order. By analyzing the low-energy effective Chern-Simon action and the corresponding chiral edge state, the T-SDW could be considered as a quantum anomalous Hall insulator with antiferromagnetic long-range order. This state is apparently beyond Landau-Ginzburg paradigm, which can be attributed to the interplay of quantum anomalous Hall effect and the subtle antiferromagnetic order in the Kondo-lattice-like model. While the transition between the SDW states and the Kondo insulator is found to be conventional (a first order transition), the transition between the N- and T-SDWs is, however, a topological quantum phase transition. Interestingly, such topological quantum phase transition can be described by Dirac fermions coupled to a U (1)Chern-Simon gauge field, which resembles the critical theory between bosonic integer quantum Hall phases and superfluid phase and also indicates that such a topological quantum phase transition may fall into the 3D-XY universal class. It is expected that the present work may shed light on the interplay between conduction electrons and the densely localized spins on the honeycomb lattice.
