RAG-Match: Retrieval-Augmented Knowledge Injection and Hierarchical Reasoning for Calibrated Semantic Relevance

Semantic relevance judgment for search is particularly challenging in knowledge-intensive scenarios, where accurate ranking requires not only semantic matching but also background grounding, multi-step reasoning, and well-calibrated decision boundaries. Existing relevance models mainly rely on direct label supervision or shallow semantic similarity, which limits their ability to handle implicit intent, factual equivalence, and fine-grained relevance distinctions. To address this issue, we propose \textsc{RAG-Match}, a three-stage framework that integrates knowledge-augmented pretraining, hierarchical reasoning alignment, and preference-based decision calibration for relevance modeling. The key idea is to first strengthen query-centered semantic grounding, then align the model with structured relevance reasoning, and finally correct decision-level inconsistencies in difficult boundary cases. Experimental results on a real-world search relevance benchmark show that \textsc{RAG-Match} consistently outperforms strong LLM-based baselines across multiple ranking metrics, demonstrating the effectiveness of combining knowledge injection, reasoning supervision, and preference optimization for fine-grained relevance judgment.

ResRank: Unifying Retrieval and Listwise Reranking via End-to-End Joint Training with Residual Passage Compression

Large language model (LLM) based listwise reranking has emerged as the dominant paradigm for achieving state-of-the-art ranking effectiveness in information retrieval. However, its reliance on feeding full passage texts into the LLM introduces two critical bottlenecks: the "lost in the middle" phenomenon degrades ranking quality as input length grows, and the inference latency scales super-linearly with sequence length, rendering it impractical for industrial deployment. In this paper, we present ResRank, a unified retrieval-reranking framework that fundamentally addresses both challenges. Inspired by multimodal LLMs that project visual inputs into compact token representations, ResRank employs an Encoder-LLM to compress each candidate passage into a single embedding, which is then fed alongside the query text into a Reranker-LLM for listwise ranking. To alleviate the misalignment between the compressed representation space and the ranking space, we introduce a residual connection structure that combines encoder embeddings with contextualized hidden states from the reranker. Furthermore, we replace the conventional autoregressive decoding with a one-step cosine-similarity-based scoring mechanism, eliminating the generation bottleneck entirely. ResRank is trained through a carefully designed dual-stage, multi-task, end-to-end joint optimization strategy that simultaneously trains the encoder and reranker, achieving learning objective alignment between retrieval and reranking while substantially reducing training complexity. Extensive experiments on TREC Deep Learning and eight BEIR benchmark datasets demonstrate that ResRank achieves competitive or superior ranking effectiveness compared to existing approaches while requiring zero generated tokens and processing only one token per passage, yielding a fundamentally better balance between effectiveness and efficiency.

Existence of weak solutions to stochastic heat equations driven by truncated $α$-stable white noises with non-Lipschitz coefficients

We consider a class of stochastic heat equations driven by truncated $α$-stable white noises for $1<α<2$ with noise coefficients that are continuous but not necessarily Lipschitz and satisfy globally linear growth conditions. We prove the existence of weak solution, taking values in two different spaces, to such an equation using a weak convergence argument on solutions to the approximating stochastic heat equations. For $1<α<2$ the weak solution is a measure-valued càdlàg process. However, for $1<α<5/3$ the weak solution is a càdlàg process taking function values, and in this case we further show that for $0<p<5/3$ the uniform $p$-th moment for $L^p$-norm of the weak solution is finite, and that the weak solution is uniformly stochastic continuous in $L^p$ sense and satisfies a flow property.

Comparison principle for stochastic heat equations driven by $α$-stable white noises

For a class of non-linear stochastic heat equations driven by $α$-stable white noises for $α\in(1,2)$ with Lipschitz coefficients, we first show the existence and pathwise uniqueness of $L^p$-valued càdlàg solutions to such a equation for $p\in(α,2]$ by considering a sequence of approximating stochastic heat equations driven by truncated $α$-stable white noises obtained by removing the big jumps from the original $α$-stable white noises. If the $α$-stable white noise is spectrally one-sided, under additional monotonicity assumption on noise coefficients, we prove a comparison theorem on the $L^2$-valued càdlàg solutions of such a equation. As a consequence, the non-negativity of the $L^2$-valued càdlàg solution is established for the above stochastic heat equation with non-negative initial function.

Competition among Large and Heterogeneous Small Firms

We extend the model of Parenti (2018) on large and small firms by introducing cost heterogeneity among small firms. We propose a novel necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of such a mixed market structure. Furthermore, in contrast to Parenti (2018), we show that in the presence of cost heterogeneity among small firms, trade liberalization may raise or reduce the mass of small firms in operation.

Optimal Credit Investment and Risk Control for an Insurer with Regime-Switching

This paper studies an optimal investment and risk control problem for an insurer with default contagion and regime-switching. The insurer in our model allocates his/her wealth across multi-name defaultable stocks and a riskless bond under regime-switching risk. Default events have an impact on the distress state of the surviving stocks in the portfolio. The aim of the insurer is to maximize the expected utility of the terminal wealth by selecting optimal investment and risk control strategies. We characterize the optimal trading strategy of defaultable stocks and risk control for the insurer. By developing a truncation technique, we analyze the existence and uniqueness of global (classical) solutions to the recursive HJB system. We prove the verification theorem based on the (classical) solutions of the recursive HJB system.

Non-Invasive Imaging Method of Microwave Near Field Based on Solid State Quantum Sensing

In this paper, we propose a non-invasive imaging method of microwave near field using a diamond containing nitrogen-vacancy centers. We applied synchronous pulsed sequence combined with charge coupled device camera to measure the amplitude of the microwave magnetic field. A full reconstruction formulation of the local field vector, including the amplitude and phase, is developed by measuring both left and right circular polarizations along the four nitrogen-vacancy axes. Compared to the raster scanning approach, the two dimensional imaging method is promising for application to circuit failure analysis. A diamond film with micrometer thinness enables high-resolution near field imaging. The proposed method is expected to have applications in monolithic-microwave-integrated circuit chip local diagnosis, antenna characterization, and field mode imaging of microwave cavities and waveguides.

A New Asymptotic Analysis Technique for Diversity Receptions Over Correlated Lognormal Fading Channels

Prior asymptotic performance analyses are based on the series expansion of the moment-generating function (MGF) or the probability density function (PDF) of channel coefficients. However, these techniques fail for lognormal fading channels because the Taylor series of the PDF of a lognormal random variable is zero at the origin and the MGF does not have an explicit form. Although lognormal fading model has been widely applied in wireless communications and free-space optical communications, few analytical tools are available to provide elegant performance expressions for correlated lognormal channels. In this work, we propose a novel framework to analyze the asymptotic outage probabilities of selection combining (SC), equal-gain combining (EGC) and maximum-ratio combining (MRC) over equally correlated lognormal fading channels. Based on these closed-form results, we reveal the followings: i) the outage probability of EGC or MRC becomes an infinitely small quantity compared to that of SC at large signal-to-noise ratio (SNR); ii) channel correlation can result in an infinite performance loss at large SNR. More importantly, the analyses reveal insights into the long-standing problem of performance analyses over correlated lognormal channels at high SNR, and circumvent the time-consuming Monte Carlo simulation and numerical integration.

Simultaneous summation and recognition effects for a dual-emitter light-induced neuromorphic device

We propose and fabricate a dual-emitter light-induced neuromorphic device composed of two light-induced devices with a common collector and base. Two InGaN multiple quantum well diodes (MQW-diodes) are used as the emitters to generate light, and one InGaN MQW-diode is used as the common collector to absorb the emitted light. When the presynaptic voltages are synchronously applied to the two emitters, the collector demonstrates an adding together of the excitatory post synaptic voltage (EPSV). The width and period of the two input signals constitute the code to generate spatial summation and recognition effects at the same time. Experimental results confirm that temporal summation caused by the repetitive-pulse facilitation could significantly strengthen the spatial summation effect due to the adding together behavior when the repetitive stimulations are applied to the two emitters in rapid succession. Particularly, the resonant summation effect occurs at the co-summation region when the two repetitive-pulse signals have a resonant period, which offers a more sophisticated spatiotemporal EPSV summation function for the dual-emitter neuromorphic device.

Full duplex communication using visible light

In this work, we propose, fabricate and characterize a full duplex communication system using visible light on a single chip. Both the suspended p-n junction InGaN/GaN multiple quantum well (MQW) devices and the suspended waveguides are obtained on a GaN-on-silicon platform by wafer-level processing. Two suspended p-n junction InGaN/GaN MQW devices that can both emit and detect light simultaneously are connected using suspended waveguides to form an in-plane visible light communication (VLC) system. The light that is emitted from one suspended p-n junction InGaN/GaN MQW device can induce a current in the device located at the other end of the waveguide via in-plane light coupling, thus leading to full duplex communication using visible light. This proof-of-concept in-plane VLC system paves the way towards the implementation of a full duplex communications system operating at the same frequency using visible light on a single chip.

Simultaneous light emission and detection of InGaN/GaN multiple quantum well diodes for in-plane visible light communication on a chip

This paper presents the design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of monolithically integrated p-n junction InGaN/GaN multiple quantum well diodes (MQWDs) and suspended waveguides. Suspended MQWDs can be used as transmitters and receivers simultaneously, and suspended waveguides are used for light coupling to create an in-plane visible light communication system. Compared to the waveguide with separation trench, the calculated total light efficiency is increased from 18% to 22% for the continuous waveguide. The MQWDs are characterized by their typical current-voltage performance, and the pulse excitation measurements confirm that the InGaN/GaN MQWDs can achieve the light emission and photodetection at the same time. The photocurrent measurements indicate that the photocurrent is modulated by a bias voltage and that the photons are being supplied from another transmitter. An experimental demonstration is presented showing that the proposed device works well for in-plane full-duplex communication using visible light.

Monolithic photonic integration of suspended light emitting diode, waveguide and photodetector

We report here a monolithic photonic integration of light emitting diode (LED) with waveguide and photodetector to build a highly-integrated photonic system to perform functionalities on the GaN-on-silicon platform. Suspended p-n junction InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) are used for device fabrication. Part of the LED emission is coupled into suspended waveguide and then, the guided light laterally propagates along the waveguide and is finally sensed by the photodetector. Planar optical communication experimentally demonstrates that the proof-of-concept monolithic photonic integration system can achieve the on-chip optical interconnects. This work paves the way towards novel active electro-optical sensing system and planar optical communication in the visible range.
