Generalized Kubo formula for spin transport: A theory of linear response to non-Abelian fields

The traditional Kubo formula is generalized to describe the linear response with respect to non-Abelian fields. To fulfil the demand for studying spin transport, the SU(2) Kubo formulae are derived by two conventional approaches with different gauge fixings. Those two approaches are shown to be equivalent where the non-conservation of the SU(2) current plays an essential role in guaranteeing the consistency. Some concrete examples relating Spin Hall Effect are considered. The dc spin conductivity vanishes in the system with parabolic unperturbed dispersion relation. By applying a time-dependent Rashba field, the spin conductivity can be measured directly. Our formula is also applied to the high-dimensional representation for the interests of some important models, such as Luttinger model and bilayer spin Hall system.

SU(2)xU(1) unified theory for charge, orbit and spin currents

Spin and charge currents in systems with Rashba or Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings are formulated in a unified version of four-dimensional SU(2)$\times$U(1) gauge theory, with U(1) the Maxwell field and SU(2) the Yang-Mills field. While the bare spin current is non-conserved, it is compensated by a contribution from the SU(2) gauge field, which gives rise to a spin torque in the spin transport, consistent with the semi-classical theory of Culcer et al. Orbit current is shown to be non-conserved in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Similar to the Maxwell field inducing forces on charge and charge current, we derive forces acting on spin and spin current induced by the Yang Mills fields such as the Rashba and Dresselhaus fields and the sheer strain field. The spin density and spin current may be considered as a source generating Yang-Mills field in certain condensed matter systems.

Ground state properties of one-dimensional Bose-Fermi mixtures

Bose-Fermi mixtures in one dimension are studied in detail on the basis of an exact solution. Corresponding to three possible choices of the referecce state in the quantum inverse scattering method, three sets of Bethe-ansatz equations are derived explicitly. The features of the ground state and low-lying excitations are investigated. The ground state phase diagram caused by the external field and chemical potential is obtained.

Persistent spin current and entanglement in the anisotropic spin ring i

We investigate the ground state persistent spin current and the pair entanglement in one-dimensional antiferromagnetic anisotropic Heisenberg ring with twisted boundary conditions. Solving Bethe ansatz equations numerically, we calculate the dependence of the ground state energy on the total magnetic flux through the ring, and the resulting persistent current. Motivated by recent development of quantum entanglement theory, we study the properties of the ground state concurrence under the influence of the flux through the anisotropic Heisenberg ring. We also include an external magnetic field and discuss the properties of the persistent current and the concurrence in the presence of the magnetic field.

Correlations of spin-polarized and entangled electrons with Berry phase

The correlation and fluctuation of both entangled electrons and spin-polarized pairs affected by two rotating magnetic fields in a setup proposed by J. Carlos Egues etc. (Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 89}(2002) 176401) are studied theoretically by using scattering approach. Differing from polarized pair, the entangled electron pairs are shown to behave like a composite particle with the total spins and its $z$ components. The singlet and triplet states exhibit different bunching and antibunching features, which can be easily adjusted by the magnetic fields. The correlations and variances can show up distinguish output signals for the four incident states. Our results are expected to be tested by using coincident technique.

Entanglement properties in (1/2,1) mixed-spin Heisenberg systems

By using the concept of negativity, we investigate entanglement in (1/2,1) mixed-spin Heisenberg systems. We obtain the analytical results of entanglement in small isotropic Heisenberg clusters with only nearest-neighbor (NN) interactions up to four spins and in the four-spin Heisenberg model with both NN and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) interactions. For more spins, we numerically study effects of temperature, magnetic fields, and NNN interactions on entanglement. We study in detail the threshold value of the temperature, after which the negativity vanishes.

Concurrence Vectors for Entanglement of High-dimensional Systems

The concurrence vectors are proposed by employing the fundamental representation of $A_n$ Lie algebra, which provides a clear criterion to evaluate the entanglement of bipartite system of arbitrary dimension for both pure and mixed states. Accordingly, a state is separable if the norm of its concurrence vector vanishes. The state vectors related to SU(3) states and SO(3) states are discussed in detail. The sign situation of nonzero components of concurrence vectors of entangled bases presents a simple criterion to judge whether the whole Hilbert subspace spanned by those bases is entangled, or there exists entanglement edge. This is illustrated in terms of the concurrence surfaces of several concrete examples.

The prion-like folding behavior in aggregated proteins

We investigate the folding behavior of protein sequences by numerically studying all sequences with maximally compact lattice model through exhaustive enumeration. We get the prion-like behavior of protein folding. Individual proteins remaining stable in the isolated native state may change their conformations when they aggregate. We observe the folding properties as the interfacial interaction strength changes, and find that the strength must be strong enough before the propagation of the most stable structures happens.

Persistent spin current in anisotropic spin ring

The persistent spin current in anisotropic spin ring penetrated by a SU(2) flux is studied by the Schwinger-boson mean field approach. The anisotropy in spin coupling can facilitate the persistent spin current. Ground-state energy and excitation energy gap are also studied. The peak of spin current occurs at the maximum value of the ground-state energy.

Rapidly rotating Bose-Einstein condensates in an anharmonic confinement

We examine a rapidly rotating Bose-Einstein condensate in an anharmonic confinement and find that many properties such as the critical rotating frequency and phase diagram are quite different from those in a harmonic trap. We investigate the phase transitions by means of average-vortex-approximation. We find that the vortex lattice consists of a vortex array with a hole in the center of the cloud as the rotating frequency $Ω$ increases and the vortex becomes invisible when $Ω$ reaches some value.

Spin-flip process through a quantum dot coupled to ferromagnetic electrodes

We study the spin-dependent transport through a quantum dot coupled to two ferromagnetic electrodes using the equation of motion method for the nonequilibrium Green's functions. Our results show that the conductance and the density of states (DOS) are strongly dependent on the configurations of the magnetic electrodes. In parallel configuration of magnetic electrodes the conductance is affected by the spin-flip process and the Coulomb repulsion on the dot. The Kondo peak for spin-dependent transport is splitted into two peaks by the spin-flip process. The locations of the two peaks are symmetric about no spin-flip peak and the separation of the splitting is dependent on the strength of the spin-flip parameter $R$. This effect may be useful to realize the spin-filter device.

Shot Noise for Entangled Electrons with Berry Phase

We study shot noise for entangled electrons in a 4-lead beam-splitter with one incoming lead driven by adiabatically rotating magnetic fields. We propose a setup of an adiabatically rotating magnetic field therefor, which is appropriate for an electron beam to transport through. Using the scattering matrix approach, we find that shot noise for the singlet and that for the entangled triplet oscillates between bunching and antibunching due to the influence of the Berry phase. It provides us a new approach for testing the Berry phase in electron transport on the basis of entanglement.

Entanglement in spin-1/2 dimerized Heisenberg systems

We study entanglement in dimerized Heisenberg systems. In particular, we give exact results of ground-state pairwise entanglement for the four-qubit model by identifying a Z_2 symmetry. Although the entanglements cannot identify the critical point of the system, the mean entanglement of nearest-neighbor qubits really does, namely, it reaches a maximum at the critical point.

Entanglement in spin-one Heisenberg chains

By using the concept of negativity, we study entanglement in spin-one Heisenberg chains. Both the bilinear chain and the bilinear-biquadratic chain are considered. Due to the SU(2) symmetry, the negativity can be determined by two correlators, which greatly facilitate the study of entanglement properties. Analytical results of negativity are obtained in the bilinear model up to four spins and the two-spin bilinear-biquadratic model, and numerical results of negativity are presented. We determine the threshold temperature before which the thermal state is doomed to be entangled.

The Role of Chaos in One-Dimensional Heat Conductivity

We investigate the heat conduction in a quasi 1-D gas model with various degree of chaos. Our calculations indicate that the heat conductivity $κ$ is independent of system size when the chaos of the channel is strong enough. The different diffusion behaviors for the cases of chaotic and non-chaotic channels are also studied. The numerical results of divergent exponent $α$ of heat conduction and diffusion exponent $β$ are in consistent with the formula $α=2-2/β$. We explore the temperature profiles numerically and analytically, which show that the temperature jump is primarily attributed to superdiffusion for both non-chaotic and chaotic cases, and for the latter case of superdiffusion the finite-size affects the value of $β$ remarkably.

Effects of staggered magnetic field on entanglement in the anisotropic XY model

We investigate effects of staggered magnetic field on thermal entanglement in the anisotropic XY model. The analytic results of entanglement for the two-site cases are obtained. For the general case of even sites, we show that when the anisotropic parameter is zero, the entanglement in the XY model with a staggered magnetic field is the same as that with a uniform magnetic field.

Entanglement of degenerate ground state for spin 1 and 1/2 pair

We study the entanglement feature of the ground state of a system composed of spin 1 and 1/2 parts. The concurrence vector is shown to be consistent with the measurement of von Neumann entropy for such system. In the light of the ground state degeneracy, we suggest a average concurrence to measure the entanglement of Hilbert subspace. The entanglement property of both a general superposition as well as the mixture of the degenerate ground states are discussed by means of average concurrence and the negativity respectively.
