A model study of quark number susceptibility at finite temperature beyond rainbow-ladder approximation

In this paper we calculate the quark number susceptibility (QNS) of QCD at finite temperature under the rainbow-ladder and Ball-Chiu type truncation schemes of the Dyson-Schwinger approach. It is found that the difference between the result of the rainbow-ladder truncation and that of Ball-Chiu type truncation is small, which shows that the dressing effect of the quark-gluon vertex on the QNS at finite temperature is small. It is also found that at low temperature the quark number susceptibility is nearly zero and it increases sharply when the temperature approaches the chiral phase transition point. A comparison between the result in the present paper with those in the literature is made.

Model Study of a Quark Star

In this paper we apply the equation of state (EOS) of QCD at finite chemical potential and zero temperature proposed in H. S. Zong and W. M. Sun [Int. J. Mod. Phys. {\bf A23}, 3591 (2008)] to the study of properties of quark star. This EOS contains only one adjustable parameter $m_D$ which sets the scale of chiral symmetry breaking (in our calculation we have chosen two values of $m_D$: $m_D=244 MeV$ and $m_D=239 MeV$, which is fitted from the value of $f_π$ and determined by $e^+ e^-$ annihilation experiment, respectively). From this EOS a model of quark star is established by applying the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation under two conditions: with the $P(μ=0)$ term and without the $P(μ=0)$ term. Our results show clearly that the $P(μ=0)$ term is an important quantity in the study of quark star. A comparison between our model and other models of quark star is made. In particular, we have compared our results with the most recent observational data measured using Shapiro delay reported in P.B. Demorest et al. [Nature (London) {\bf 467}, 1081 (2010)].

Characteristic length of a Holographic Superconductor with $d$-wave gap

After the discovery of the $s$-wave and $p$-wave holographic superconductors, holographic models of $d$-wave superconductor have also been constructed recently. We study analytically the perturbation of the dual gravity theory to calculate the superconducting coherence length $ξ$ of the $d$-wave holographic superconductor near the superconducting phase transition point. The superconducting coherence length $ξ$ divergents as $(1-T/T_c)^{-1/2}$ near the critical temperature $T_c$. We also obtain the magnetic penetration depth $λ\propto(T_c-T)^{-1/2}$ by adding a small external homogeneous magnetic field. The results agree with the $s$-wave and $p$-wave models, which are also the same as the Ginzburg-Landau theory.

The Equation of State and Quark Number Susceptibility in Hard-Dense-Loop Approximation

Based on the method proposed in [ H. S. Zong, W. M. Sun, Phys. Rev. \textbf{D 78}, 054001 (2008)], we calculate the equation of state (EOS) of QCD at zero temperature and finite quark chemical potential under the hard-dense-loop (HDL) approximation. A comparison between the EOS under HDL approximation and the cold, perturbative EOS of QCD proposed by Fraga, Pisarski and Schaffner-Bielich is made. It is found that the pressure under HDL approximation is generally smaller than the perturbative result. In addition, we also calculate the quark number susceptibility (QNS) at finite temperature and finite chemical potential under hard-thermal/dense-loop (HTL/HDL) approximation and compare our results with the corresponding ones in the previous literature.

The Quark Number Susceptibility in Hard-Thermal-Loop Approximation

With the aid of the vector Ward-Takahashi identity we derive a general formula for the quark number susceptibility (QNS) which expresses the QNS as an integral expression only involving the full quark propagator at finite temperature and chemical potential. The QNS at finite temperature and zero chemical potential is calculated with the dressed quark propagator in the Hard-Thermal-Loop (HTL) approximation. A comparison of our result with the results of QNS in HTL approximation in previous literatures is given.

The Calculation of $f_π$ and $m_π$ at Finite Chemical Potential

Based on the previous work in [Y. Jiang, Y.M. Shi, H.T. Feng, W.M. Sun and H.S. Zong, Phys. Rev. C {\bf 78}, 025214 (2008)] on the quark-meson vertex and pion properties at finite quark chemical potential, we provide an analytical analysis of the weak decay constant of the pion ($f_π[μ]$) and the pion mass ($m_π[μ]$) at finite quark chemical potential using the model quark propagator proposed in [R. Alkofer, W. Detmold, C.S. Fischer and P. Maris, Phys. Rev. D {\bf 70}, 014014 (2004)]. It is found that when $μ$ is below a threshold value $μ_0$ (which equals $0.350 \mathrm{GeV}$, $0.377 \mathrm{GeV}$ and $0.341 \mathrm{GeV}$, for the $\mathrm{2CC}$, $\mathrm{1R1CC}$ and $\mathrm{3R}$ parametrizations of the model quark propagator, respectively.), $f_π[μ]$ and $m_π[μ]$ are kept unchanged from their vacuum values. The value of $μ_0$ is intimately connected with the pole distribution of the model quark propagator and is found to coincide with the threshold value below which the quark-number density vanishes identically. Numerical calculations show that when $μ$ becomes larger than $μ_0$, $f_π[μ]$ exhibits a sharp decrease whereas $m_π[μ]$ exhibits a sharp increase. A comparison is given between the results obtained in this paper and those obtained in previous literatures.

On quark mass correction to the string potential

Following recent work by Lambiase and Nesterenko we study in detail the interquark potential for a Nambu-Goto string with point masses attached to its ends. We obtain exact solutions to the gap equations for the Lagrange multipliers and metric components and determine the potential without simplifying assumptions. We also discuss Lüscher term and argue that it remains universal.
