Topological Classifications and Bifurcations of Periodic Orbits in the Potential Field of Highly Irregular-shaped Celestial Bodies

This paper studies the distribution of characteristic multipliers, the structure of submanifolds, the phase diagram, bifurcations and chaotic motions in the potential field of rotating highly irregular-shaped celestial bodies (hereafter called irregular bodies). The topological structure of the submanifolds for the orbits in the potential field of an irregular body is shown to be classified into 34 different cases, including 6 ordinary cases, 3 collisional cases, 3 degenerate real saddle cases, 7 periodic cases, 7 period-doubling cases, 1 periodic and collisional case, 1 periodic and degenerate real saddle case, 1 period-doubling and collisional case, 1 period-doubling and degenerate real saddle case, and 4 periodic and period-doubling cases. The different distribution of the characteristic multipliers has been shown to fix the structure of the submanifolds, the type of orbits, the dynamical behaviour and the phase diagram of the motion. Classifications and properties for each case are presented. Moreover, tangent bifurcations, period-doubling bifurcations, Neimark-Sacker bifurcations and the real saddle bifurcations of periodic orbits in the potential field of an irregular body are discovered. Submanifolds appear to be Mobius strips and Klein bottles when the period-doubling bifurcation occurs.

Nonlinear susceptibilities under the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equations

Since the baryon-number susceptibilities are correlated with the cumulant of baryon-number fluctuations in experiments, we do calculations of the susceptibilities and compare them with the experimental fluctuation data under the framework of the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs) approach. We compare our results with lattice QCD and experimental data at RHIC. The fitness of the results indicates that under the framework of DSEs, we can deal with the problems of heavy ion collisions properly.

Influence of gauge boson mass on the staggered spin susceptibility

Based on the study of the linear response of the fermion propagator in the presence of an external scalar field, we calculate the staggered spin susceptibility in the low energy limit in the framework of the Dyson-Schwinger approach. We analyze the effect of a finite gauge boson mass on the staggered spin susceptibility in both Nambu phase and Wigner phase. It is found that the gauge boson mass suppresses the staggered spin susceptibility in Wigner phase. In addition, we try to give an explanation for why the antiferromagnetic spin correlation increases when the doping is lowered.

Locate QCD Critical End Point in a Continuum Model Study

With a modified chemical potential dependent effective model for the gluon propagator, we try to locate the critical end point (CEP) of strongly interacting matter in the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSE). Beyond the chiral limit, we find that Nambu solution and Wigner solution could coexist in some area. Using the CornwallJackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action, we show that these two phases are connected by a first order phase transition. We then locate CEP as the end point of the first order phase transition line. Meanwhile, based on CJT effective action, we give a direct calculation for the chiral susceptibility and thereby study the crossover.

Orbits and Manifolds near the Equilibrium Points around a Rotating Asteroid

We study the orbits and manifolds near the equilibrium points of a rotating asteroid. The linearised equations of motion relative to the equilibrium points in the gravitational field of a rotating asteroid, the characteristic equation and the stable conditions of the equilibrium points are derived and discussed. First, a new metric is presented to link the orbit and the geodesic of the smooth manifold. Then, using the eigenvalues of the characteristic equation, the equilibrium points are classified into 8 cases. A theorem is presented and proved to describe the structure of the submanifold as well as the stable and unstable behaviours of a massless particle near the equilibrium points. The linearly stable, the non-resonant unstable, and the resonant equilibrium points are discussed. There are three families of periodic orbits and four families of quasi-periodic orbits near the linearly stable equilibrium point. For the non-resonant unstable equilibrium points, there are four cases; for the periodic orbit and the quasi-periodic orbit, the structures of the submanifold and the subspace near the equilibrium points are studied for each case. For the resonant equilibrium points, the dimension of the resonant manifold is greater than four, and we find at least 1 family of periodic orbits near the resonant equilibrium points. Besides, this theory is applied to asteroids 216 Kleopatra, 1620 Geographos, 4769 Castalia, and 6489 Golevka.

Orbital Mechanics near a Rotating Asteroid

This study investigates the different novel forms of the dynamical equations of a particle orbiting a rotating asteroid and the effective potential, the Jacobi integral, etc. on different manifolds. Nine new forms of the dynamical equations of a particle orbiting a rotating asteroid are presented, and the classical form of the dynamical equations has also been found. The dynamical equations with the potential and the effective potential in scalar form in the arbitrary body-fixed frame and the special body-fixed frame are presented and discussed. Moreover, the simplified forms of the effective potential and the Jacobi integral have been derived. The dynamical equation in coefficient-matrix form has been derived. Other forms of the dynamical equations near the asteroid are presented and discussed, including the Lagrange form, the Hamilton form, the symplectic form, the Poisson form, the Poisson-bracket form, the cohomology form, and the dynamical equations on the Kähler manifold and another complex manifold. Novel forms of the effective potential and the Jacobi integral are also presented. The dynamical equations in scalar form and coefficient-matrix form can aid in the study of the dynamical system, the bifurcation, and the chaotic motion of the orbital dynamics of a particle near a rotating asteroid. The dynamical equations of a particle near a rotating asteroid are presented on several manifolds, including the symplectic manifold, the Poisson manifold, and complex manifolds, which may lead to novel methods of studying the motion of a particle in the potential field of a rotating asteroid.

Solving reviewer assignment problem in software peer review: An approach based on preference matrix and asymmetric TSP model

Optimized reviewer assignment can effectively utilize limited intellectual resources and significantly assure review quality in various scenarios such as paper selection in conference or journal, proposal selection in funding agencies and so on. However, little research on reviewer assignment of software peer review has been found. In this study, an optimization approach is proposed based on students' preference matrix and the model of asymmetric traveling salesman problem (ATSP). Due to the most critical role of rule matrix in this approach, we conduct a questionnaire to obtain students' preference matrices and convert them to rule matrices. With the help of software ILOG CPLEX, the approach is accomplished by controlling the exit criterion of ATSP model. The comparative study shows that the assignment strategies with both reviewers' preference matrix and authors' preference matrix get better performance than the random assignment. Especially, it is found that the performance is just a little better than that of random assignment when the reviewers' and authors' preference matrices are merged. In other words, the majority of students have a strong wish of harmonious development even though high-level students are not willing to do that.

Calculation of the staggered spin correlation in the framework of the Dyson-Schwinger approach

Based on the linear response of the fermion propagator with respect to an external field, we first derive a model-independent expression for the staggered spin susceptibility in which the influence of the full pseudoscalar vertex function is included. This expression for the staggered spin susceptibility is quite different from that given in the previous literature. The numerical values of the staggered spin susceptibility are calculated within the framework of the Dyson-Schwinger approach. Our numerical result shows that the nonperturbative dressing effects on the fermion propagator is very important when one studies the staggered spin susceptibility which corresponding to antiferromagnetic correlation in both Nambu phase and Winger phase.

Robust Adaptive Dynamic Programming for Optimal Nonlinear Control Design

This paper studies the robust optimal control design for uncertain nonlinear systems from a perspective of robust adaptive dynamic programming (robust-ADP). The objective is to fill up a gap in the past literature of ADP where dynamic uncertainties or unmodeled dynamics are not addressed. A key strategy is to integrate tools from modern nonlinear control theory, such as the robust redesign and the backstepping techniques as well as the nonlinear small-gain theorem, with the theory of ADP. The proposed robust-ADP methodology can be viewed as a natural extension of ADP to uncertain nonlinear systems. A practical learning algorithm is developed in this paper, and has been applied to a sensorimotor control problem.

PuPt2In7: a computational and experimental investigation

Flux-grown single crystals of PuPt$_2$In$_7$ are characterized and found to be both non-superconducting and non-magnetic down to 2 K. The Sommerfeld specific heat coefficient of $\sim 250$ mJ/mol K$^2$ indicates heavy fermion behavior. We report the results of generalized gradient approximation (GGA)+$U$ calculations of PuPt$_2$In$_7$ and as yet unsynthesized isovalent PuPt$_2$Ga$_7$. The strength of the $c$-$f$ hybridization of PuPt$_2$In$_7$ is similar to the PuCoIn$_5$ superconductor. The bare and $f$-weighted susceptibility within the constant-matrix-element approximation is calculated, showing a maximum along the $q_z$ direction at $q_x = q_y = 0.5$. A similar and slightly stronger maximum is also found in the structurally related heavy-fermion materials PuCoGa$_5$ and PuCoIn$_5$. The absence of superconductivity in PuPt$_2$In$_7$ is examined based on the results of our calculations.

Multiconfigurational nature of 5f orbitals in uranium and plutonium intermetallics

Uranium and plutonium's 5f electrons are tenuously poised between strongly bonding with ligand spd-states and residing close to the nucleus. The unusual properties of these elements and their compounds (eg. the six different allotropes of elemental plutonium) are widely believed to depend on the related attributes of f-orbital occupancy and delocalization, for which a quantitative measure is lacking. By employing resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) and x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy and making comparisons to specific heat measurements, we demonstrate the presence of multiconfigurational f-orbital states in the actinide elements U and Pu, and in a wide range of uranium and plutonium intermetallic compounds. These results provide a robust experimental basis for a new framework for understanding the strongly-correlated behavior of actinide materials.

Möbius transformations and electronic transport properties of large disorderless networks

We show that the key transport states, insulating and conducting, of large regular networks of scatterers can be described generically by negative and zero Lyapunov exponents, respectively, of Möbius maps that relate the scattering matrix of systems with successive sizes. The conductive phase is represented by weakly chaotic attractors that have been linked with anomalous transport and ergodicity breaking. Our conclusions, verified for serial as well as parallel stub and ring structures, reveal that mesoscopic behavior results from a drastic reduction of degrees of freedom.

New application of decomposition of U(1) gauge potential:Aharonov-Bohm effect and Anderson-Higgs mechanism

In this paper we study the Aharonov-Bohm (A-B) effect and Anderson-Higgs mechanism in Ginzburg-Landau model of superconductors from the perspective of the decomposition of U(1) gauge potential. By the Helmholtz theorem, we derive exactly the expression of the transverse gauge potential $\vec{A}_\perp$ in A-B experiment, which is gauge-invariant and physical. For the case of a bulk superconductor, we find that the gradient of the total phase field $θ$ provides the longitudinal component ${\vec A}_{\parallel}$, which reflects the Anderson-Higgs mechanism. For the case of a superconductor ring, the gradient of the longitudinal phase field $θ_1$ provides the longitudinal component ${\vec A}_{\parallel}$, while the transverse phase field $θ_2$ produces new physical effects such as the flux quantization inside a superconducting ring.

Analytical Computation of Critical Exponents in Several Holographic Superconductors

It is very interesting that all holographic superconductors, such as s-wave, p-wave and d-wave holographic superconductors, show the universal mean-field critical exponent 1/2 at the critical temperature, just like Gindzburg-Landau (G-L) theory for second order phase transitions. Now it is believed that the universal critical exponents appear because the dual gravity theory is classic in the large $N$ limit. However, even in the large $N$ limit there is an exception called "non-mean-field theory": an extension of the s-wave model with a cubic term of the charged scalar field shows a different critical exponent 1. In this paper, we try to use analytical methods to obtain the critical exponents for these models to see how the properties of the gravity action decides the appearance of the mean-field behaviors. It will be seen that just like the G-L theory, it is the fundamental symmetries rather than the detailed parameters of the bulk theory that lead to the universal properties of the holographic superconducting phase transition. The feasibility of the called "non-mean-field theory" is also discussed.

A thermodynamically consistent quasi-particle model without temperature-dependent infinity of the vacuum zero point energy

In this paper, an improved quasi-particle model is presented. Unlike the previous approach of establishing quasi-particle model, we introduce a classical background field (it is allowed to depend on the temperature) to deal with the infinity of thermal vacuum energy which exists in previous quasi-particle models. After taking into account the effect of this classical background field, the partition function of quasi-particle system can be made well-defined. Based on this and following the standard ensemble theory, we construct a thermodynamically consistent quasi-particle model without the need of any reformulation of statistical mechanics or thermodynamical consistency relation. As an application of our model, we employ it to the case of (2+1) flavor QGP at zero chemical potential and finite temperature and obtain a good fit to the recent lattice simulation results of S. Borsanyi $et$ $al$. A comparison of the result of our model with early calculations using other models is also presented. It is shown that our method is general and can be generalized to the case where the effective mass depends not only on the temperature but also on the chemical potential.

Influence of a uniform magnetic field on dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in QED$_3$

We study dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) in an effective QED$_{3}$ theory of d-wave high temperature cuprate superconductors under a uniform magnetic field. At zero temperature, the external magnetic field induces a mixed state by generating vortices in the condensate of charged holons. The growing magnetic field suppresses the superfluid density and thus reduces the gauge field mass which is opened via the Anderson-Higgs mechanism. By numerically solving the Dyson-Schwinger gap equation, we show that the massless fermions acquires a dynamical gap through DCSB mechanism when the magnetic field strength $H$ is above a critical value $H_{c}$ and the fermion flavors $N$ is below a critical value $N_{c}$. Further, it is found that both $N_{c}$ and the dynamical fermion gap increase as the magnetic field $H$ grows. It is expected that our result can be tested in phenomena in high temperature cuprate superconductors.

The Wigner solution of quark gap equation at nonzero current quark mass and partial restoration of chiral symmetry at finite chemical potential

According to the generally accepted phase diagram of QCD, at low temperature and high baryon number density the chiral phase transition of QCD is of first order and the co-existence of the Nambu-Goldstone phase and the Wigner phase should appear. This is in conflict with the usual claim that the quark gap equation has no Wigner solution in the case of nonzero current quark mass. In this paper we analyze the reason why the Wigner solution does not exist in the usual treatment and try to propose a new approach to discuss this question. As a first step, we adopt a modified Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model to study the Wigner solution at finite current quark mass. We then generalize this approach to the case of finite chemical potential and discuss partial restoration of chiral symmetry at finite chemical potential and compare our results with those in the normal NJL model.

Calculation of bulk viscosity of QCD at zero temperature and finite chemical potential

In this letter, based on Kubo's formula and the QCD low energy theorem, we propose a direct formula for calculating the bulk viscosity of QCD at finite chemical potential $μ$ and zero temperature. According to this formula, the bulk viscosity at finite $μ$ is totally determined by the dressed quark propagator at finite $μ$. We then use a dynamical, confining Dyson-Schwinger equation model of QCD to calculate the bulk viscosity at finite $μ$. It is found that no sharp peak behavior of the bulk viscosity at finite $μ$ is observed, which is quite different from that of the bulk viscosity at finite temperature.
