Time performance of USTC-IME LGAD under synchrotron light source focused X-ray

The time performance of Low Gain Avalanche Diodes (LGADs), designed by the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and fabricated by the Institute of Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (IME), was characterized at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The experiment was conducted at the BL16B1 beamline, which delivers a focused X-ray beam with a diameter of 500 {\mu}m, a repetition period of 2 ns, and a photon energy of 10 keV. Using a fast oscilloscope, waveforms containing continuous signal pulses were recorded within a 50 ns time window. The LGAD under test successfully resolved the 2 ns period of the SSRF. To mitigate pile-up effects and extract pulse-by-pulse information from the acquired waveforms, a waveform-level global template fitting method was employed. The time resolution was then estimated using a combined profile likelihood approach, yielding a value of 126.6 ps. The effect of random photon absorption depth on the time resolution of LGADs was studied through dedicated simulations.

Development of Small-pitch, Ultra-thin 3D Silicon Sensors at USTC

We report on the development of 3D silicon sensors at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The sensor involves columnar electrodes (5 um in diameter) of both doping types, etched from the same wafer side. The p+ electrodes pass through the epitaxial wafer, whereas the n+ electrodes stop at a short distance from the opposite side of the epitaxial wafer. With respect to previous generations of 3D sensors, they feature an ultra-thin active substrate (50 um) and a small pixel size of 50 um x 50 um or 25 um x 25 um. This R&D project aims to establish a sensor technology to simultaneously measure position and time information at the single-pixel level. The first run with one merged wafer layout has been completed. The design, fabrication, and characterization of the sensors are reported in this paper.

Charge-dependent spectral softenings of primary cosmic-rays below the knee

In most particle acceleration or propagation theories, the characteristic features of the cosmic ray spectra due to acceleration limits or propagation phase changes are charge dependent. Alternatively, the interaction scenario would expect mass dependent spectral features in general. The observational verification of which relation takes effect in nature is still lack due to the difficulty of measuring the spectra of individual particles up to very high energies. Here we report direct measurements of the carbon, oxygen, and iron spectra from ~20 gigavolts to ~100 teravolts (~60 teravolts for iron) with 9 years of on-orbit data collected by the Dark Matter Particle Explorer. Distinct spectral softenings have been directly detected in these spectra for the first time. Combined with the updated proton and helium spectra, the spectral softening appears universally at a rigidity of ~15 teravolts. A nuclei mass dependent softening is rejected at a confidence level of >99.999%. Possible interpretations of these results, including a nearby cosmic ray source and other models such as the propagation effect, are discussed.

CyanKitten: AI-Driven Markerless Motion Capture for Improved Elderly Well-Being

This paper introduces CyanKitten, an interactive virtual companion system tailored for elderly users, integrating advanced posture recognition, behavior recognition, and multimodal interaction capabilities. The system utilizes a three-tier architecture to process and interpret user movements and gestures, leveraging a dual-camera setup and a convolutional neural network trained explicitly on elderly movement patterns. The behavior recognition module identifies and responds to three key interactive gestures: greeting waves, petting motions, and heart-making gestures. A multimodal integration layer also combines visual and audio inputs to facilitate natural and intuitive interactions. This paper outlines the technical implementation of each component, addressing challenges such as elderly-specific movement characteristics, real-time processing demands, and environmental adaptability. The result is an engaging and accessible virtual interaction experience designed to enhance the quality of life for elderly users.

Research on two-dimensional traffic flow model based on psychological field theory

In this paper, the influence of fan-shaped buffer zone on the performance of the toll plaza is researched. A two-dimensional traffic flow model and a comprehensive evaluation model based on mechanical model and psychological field are established. The traffic flow model is simulated by creating coordinate system. We first establish queue theory model to analyze vehicles when entering toll plaza. Then, a two-dimensional steadily car-following model is established based on psychological field for the analysis of vehicles when leaving toll plaza. According to psychological field theory, we analyze the force condition of each vehicle. The force of each vehicle is contributed by the vehicles in its observation area and obstacles. By projecting these vehicles and obstacles via the equipotential line in the psychological field, the influence on the value and direction acceleration of following vehicles is obtained. Consequently, the changes of each vehicle's speed and position are obtained as well. Next, we establish simulation based on the states of vehicles and make the rules of vehicle state-changing. By simulating the system, we obtain the throughput of the toll plaza's input and output. Then we obtained the bearing pressure on the road by the max throughput and the demand of the roads. Using the number of cars in per unit area as the safety factor. Then a comprehensive evaluation model is established based on bearing pressure on the road, cost and safety factor.
