Cyber Physical Attacks with Control Objectives

This paper studies attackers with control objectives against cyber-physical systems (CPS). The system is equipped with its own controller and attack detector, and the goal of the attacker is to move the system to a target state while altering the system's actuator input and sensor output to avoid detection. We formulate a cost function that reflects the attacker's goals, and, using dynamic programming, we show that the optimal attack strategy reduces to a linear feedback of the attacker's state estimate. By changing the parameters of the cost function, we show how an attacker can design optimal attacks to balance the control objective and the detection avoidance objective. Finally, we provide a numerical illustration based on a remotely-controlled helicopter under attack.

Non-classical photon correlation in a two-dimensional photonic lattice

Quantum interference and quantum correlation, as two main features of quantum optics, play an essential role in quantum information applications, such as multi-particle quantum walk and boson sampling. While many experimental demonstrations have been done in one-dimensional waveguide arrays, it remains unexplored in higher dimensions due to tight requirement of manipulating and detecting photons in large-scale. Here, we experimentally observe non-classical correlation of two identical photons in a fully coupled two-dimensional structure, i.e. photonic lattice manufactured by three-dimensional femtosecond laser writing. Photon interference consists of 36 Hong-Ou-Mandel interference and 9 bunching. The overlap between measured and simulated distribution is up to $0.890\pm0.001$. Clear photon correlation is observed in the two-dimensional photonic lattice. Combining with controllably engineered disorder, our results open new perspectives towards large-scale implementation of quantum simulation on integrated photonic chips.

Dynamic Attack Detection in Cyber-Physical Systems with Side Initial State Information

This paper studies the impact of side initial state information on the detectability of data deception attacks against cyber-physical systems. We assume the attack detector has access to a linear function of the initial system state that cannot be altered by an attacker. First, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for an attack to be undetectable by any dynamic attack detector under each specific side information pattern. Second, we characterize attacks that can be sustained for arbitrarily long periods without being detected. Third, we define the zero state inducing attack, the only type of attack that remains dynamically undetectable regardless of the side initial state information available to the attack detector. Finally, we design a dynamic attack detector that detects detectable attacks.

The Superconducting Magnet for ADS Injection-I

The cryomodule I for ADS Injection-I had been designed, fabricated and online tested. The CM1 contains seven superconducting magnets, seven superconducting spoke cavities and seven beam position monitors. The superconducting magnet, which is a kind of multifunction magnet in a 170mm length axial space, contains a solenoid for beam focusing and two correctors for orbit correction. The design goals for the magnets are to meet the required integral field strength and to reduce the leakage field of less than 2 G at the nearby superconducting spoke cavities. The 2.1K, 31 mbar cryogenic system, where the magnets and spoke cavities shared with, force the magnet must select a kind of conduction cooled current leads. The first one of the batch magnets was tested in a vertical Dewar in HIT in July, 2014. The measurement results met the design requirements. Online operation of CM1 in September, 2015 showed that seven magnets can work at 230A under 4.2K and 2.1K respectively. This paper will present the magnet and current lead design, field measurement and the installation progress.

Mechanical bound state in the continuum for optomechanical microresonators

Clamping loss limits the quality factor of mechanical mode in the optomechanical resonators supported with the supporting stem. Using the mechanical bound state in the continuum, we have found that the mechanical clamping loss can be avoided. The mechanical quality factor of microsphere could be achieved up to 10^8 for a specific radius of the stem, where the different coupling channels between the resonator and supporting stem are orthogonal to each other. Such mechanism is proved to be universal for different geometries and materials, thus can also be generalized to design the high quality mechanical resonators.

Transverse profile expansion and homogenization at target for the injector Scheme-I test stand of China-ADS

For the injector Scheme-I test stand of the China-ADS, a beam with the maximum power of 100 kW will be produced and transported to the beam dump. At the beam dump, the beam power will be converted to thermal load and brought away by the cooling water. Two measures are taken to deal with the huge power density at the target. One is to enlarge the contact area between the beam and the target, and this is to be accomplished by expanding the beam profile at the target and using two copper plates each having a 20o inclination angle relative to the beam direction. The other is to produce more homogenous beam profile at the target to minimize the maximum power density. Here the beam dump line is designed to meet the requirement of beam expansion and homogenization, and the step-like field magnets are employed for the beam spot homogenization. The simulations results including space charge effects and errors show that the beam line can meet the requirements very well at the three different energies (3.2 MeV, 5 MeV and 10 MeV). In the meantime, the alternative beam design using standard multipole magnets is also presented.

Physical Design of Superconducting Magnet for ADS Injection I

Superconducting solenoid magnet prototype for ADS Injection I had been designed and fabricated, and also had been tested in liquid Helium state inside a vertical Dewar in Haerbin institute of Technology in Nov. 2012. The design current is 210A, when the test current reached 400A no quench occurred, the solenoid magnet was forced to quench by the embedded heaters. The integral field strength, leakage field at the nearby upstream and downstream superconducting spoke cavities all meet the design requirements. At the same time, it also checked the system reliability of the vertical test Dewar and the quenched detection system. The superconducting magnet prototype has accumulated valuable experiences for the coming batch magnets production and cryogenic test.

A Jet-like Outflow toward the High-Mass (Proto)stellar Object IRAS 18566+0408

We performed interferometric observations of a high-mass protostellar candidate IRAS 18566+0408 in the \nh3 (J,K)=(1,1), (2,2) and (3,3) inversion transitions, the SiO J=2-1 and HCN J=1-0 lines, and the 43 and 87 GHz continuum emission using the VLA and OVRO. The 87 GHz continuum emission reveals two continuum peaks MM-1 and MM-2 along a molecular ridge. The dominant peak MM-1 coincides with a compact emission feature at 43 GHz, and arises mostly from the dust emission. For dust emissivity index $β$ of 1.3, the masses in the dust peaks amount to 70 \msun for MM-1, and 27 \msun for MM-2. Assuming internal heating, the central luminosities of MM-1 and MM-2 are $6 \times 10^4$ and $8 \times 10^3$ \lsun, respectively. The SiO emission reveals a well collimated outflow emanating from MM-1. The jet-like outflow is also detected in \nh3 at velocities similar to the SiO emission. The outflow, with a mass of 27 \msun, causes significant heating in the gas to temperatures of 70 K, much higher than the temperature of $\lsim 15$ K in the extended core. Compact ($< 3''$) and narrow line ($<1.5$ \kms-1) \nh3 (3,3) emission features are found associated with the outflow. They likely arise from weak population inversion in \nh3 similar to the maser emission. Toward MM-1, there is a compact \nh3 structure with a linewidth that increases from 5.5 \kms-1 FHWM measured at 3$''$ resolution to 8.7 \kms-1\ measured at 1$''$ resolution. This linewidth is much larger than the FWHM of $<$ 2 \kms-1 in the entire core, and does not appear to originate from the outflow. This large linewidth may arise from rotation/infall, or relative motions of unresolved protostellar cores.

The short-time behavior of kinetic spherical model with long-ranged interactions

The kinetic spherical model with long-ranged interactions and an arbitrary initial order m_{0} quenched from a very high temperature to T < T_{c} is solved. In the short-time regime, the bulk order increases with a power law in both the critical and phase-ordering dynamics. To the latter dynamics, a power law for the relative order m_{r} ~ -t^{-k} is found in the intermediate time-regime. The short-time scaling relation of small m_{0} are generalized to an arbitrary m_{0} and all the time larger than t_{mic}. The characteristic functions $ϕ(b,m_{0})$ for the scaling of m_{0} and $ε(b,T')$ for T'=T/T_{c} are obtained. The crossover between scaling regimes is discussed in detail.
