ACSNet: A Deep Neural Network for Compound GNSS Jamming Signal Classification

In the global navigation satellite system (GNSS), identifying not only single but also compound jamming signals is crucial for ensuring reliable navigation and positioning, particularly in future wireless communication scenarios such as the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN). However, conventional techniques often struggle with low recognition accuracy and high computational complexity, especially under low jamming-to-noise ratio (JNR) conditions. To overcome the challenge of accurately identifying compound jamming signals embedded within GNSS signals, we propose ACSNet, a novel convolutional neural network designed specifically for this purpose. Unlike traditional methods that tend to exhibit lower accuracy and higher computational demands, particularly in low JNR environments, ACSNet addresses these issues by integrating asymmetric convolution blocks, which enhance its sensitivity to subtle signal variations. Simulations demonstrate that ACSNet significantly improves accuracy in low JNR regions and shows robust resilience to power ratio (PR) variations, confirming its effectiveness and efficiency for practical GNSS interference management applications.

Hybrid Beamforming for RIS-Assisted Multiuser Fluid Antenna Systems

Recent advances in reconfigurable antennas have led to the new concept of the fluid antenna system (FAS) for shape and position flexibility, as another degree of freedom for wireless communication enhancement. This paper explores the integration of a transmit FAS array for hybrid beamforming (HBF) into a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted communication architecture for multiuser communications in the downlink, corresponding to the downlink RIS-assisted multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) FAS model (Tx RIS-assisted-MISO-FAS). By considering Rician channel fading, we formulate a sum-rate maximization optimization problem to alternately optimize the HBF matrix, the RIS phase-shift matrix, and the FAS position. Due to the strong coupling of multiple optimization variables, the multi-fractional summation in the sum-rate expression, the modulus-1 limitation of analog phase shifters and RIS, and the antenna position variables appearing in the exponent, this problem is highly non-convex, which is addressed through the block coordinate descent (BCD) framework in conjunction with semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and majorization-minimization (MM) methods. To reduce the computational complexity, we then propose a low-complexity grating-lobe (GL)-based telescopic-FAS (TFA) with multiple delicately deployed RISs under the sub-connected HBF architecture and the line-of-sight (LoS)-dominant channel condition, to allow closed-form solutions for the HBF and TFA position. Our simulation results illustrate that the former optimization scheme significantly enhances the achievable rate of the proposed system, while the GL-based TFA scheme also provides a considerable gain over conventional fixed-position antenna (FPA) systems, requiring statistical channel state information (CSI) only and with low computational complexity.

OTA-Key: Over the Air Key Management for Flexible and Reliable IoT Device Provision

As the Internet of Things (IoT) industry advances, the imperative to secure IoT devices has become increasingly critical. Current practices in both industry and academia advocate for the enhancement of device security through key installation. However, it has been observed that, in practice, IoT vendors frequently assign shared keys to batches of devices. This practice can expose devices to risks, such as data theft by attackers or large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. To address this issue, our intuition is to assign a unique key to each device. Unfortunately, this strategy proves to be highly complex within the IoT context, as existing keys are typically hardcoded into the firmware, necessitating the creation of bespoke firmware for each device. Furthermore, correct pairing of device keys with their respective devices is crucial. Errors in this pairing process would incur substantial human and temporal resources to rectify and require extensive communication between IoT vendors, device manufacturers, and cloud platforms, leading to significant communication overhead. To overcome these challenges, we propose the OTA-Key scheme. This approach fundamentally decouples device keys from the firmware features stored in flash memory, utilizing an intermediary server to allocate unique device keys in two distinct stages and update keys. We conducted a formal security verification of our scheme using ProVerif and assessed its performance through a series of evaluations. The results demonstrate that our scheme is secure and effectively manages the large-scale distribution and updating of unique device keys. Additionally, it achieves significantly lower update times and data transfer volumes compared to other schemes.

Distributed Uplink Rate Splitting Multiple Access (DU-RSMA): Principles and Performance Analysis

One of the main goals of the upcoming sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks is the ability to support higher network density, while ensuring a high quality of service for each user. In this paper, we introduce distributed uplink rate-splitting multiple access (DU-RSMA), define its basic principles, and provide insights into its advantages. Specifically, a system with two remote radio heads (RRHs) and two users is investigated. To improve the performance of the system, we consider that the RRHs can communicate through a feedback link, and thus they are able to decode the received messages either independently or with the assistance of the other RRH, since the decoded information can be shared through the feedback link. It should be noted that this scheme increases the achievable capacity region compared to the known multiple access schemes, which is also evaluated by a novel metric termed ``fill factor''. Both the case of adaptive transmission rates and the case of fixed transmission rates are investigated. To this end, the ergodic rate is investigated to cover the former case, while the outage probability is studied for the latter. Closed-form expressions are derived for both metrics. Finally, the analytical expressions are validated by simulation results, which explicitly show the impact of each parameter on the performance of the system, and prove that the proposed scheme outperforms the corresponding benchmarks.

Optimizing Radio Access Technology Selection and Precoding in CV-Aided ISAC Systems

Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) systems promise to revolutionize wireless networks by concurrently supporting high-resolution sensing and high-performance communication. This paper presents a novel radio access technology (RAT) selection framework that capitalizes on vision sensing from base station (BS) cameras to optimize both communication and perception capabilities within the ISAC system. Our framework strategically employs two distinct RATs, LTE and millimeter wave (mmWave), to enhance system performance. We propose a vision-based user localization method that employs a 3D detection technique to capture the spatial distribution of users within the surrounding environment. This is followed by geometric calculations to accurately determine the state of mmWave communication links between the BS and individual users. Additionally, we integrate the SlowFast model to recognize user activities, facilitating adaptive transmission rate allocation based on observed behaviors. We develop a Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG)-based algorithm, utilizing the joint distribution of users and their activities, designed to maximize the total transmission rate for all users through joint RAT selection and precoding optimization, while adhering to constraints on sensing mutual information and minimum transmission rates. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework in dynamically adjusting resource allocation, ensuring high-quality communication under challenging conditions.

GNSS Interference Classification Using Federated Reservoir Computing

The expanding use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in vital areas like traffic management, surveillance, and environmental monitoring highlights the need for robust communication and navigation systems. Particularly vulnerable are Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), which face a spectrum of interference and jamming threats that can significantly undermine their performance. While traditional deep learning approaches are adept at mitigating these issues, they often fall short for UAV applications due to significant computational demands and the complexities of managing large, centralized datasets. In response, this paper introduces Federated Reservoir Computing (FedRC) as a potent and efficient solution tailored to enhance interference classification in GNSS systems used by UAVs. Our experimental results demonstrate that FedRC not only achieves faster convergence but also sustains lower loss levels than traditional models, highlighting its exceptional adaptability and operational efficiency.

Guiding IoT-Based Healthcare Alert Systems with Large Language Models

Healthcare alert systems (HAS) are undergoing rapid evolution, propelled by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, and increasing health consciousness. Despite significant progress, a fundamental challenge remains: balancing the accuracy of personalized health alerts with stringent privacy protection in HAS environments constrained by resources. To address this issue, we introduce a uniform framework, LLM-HAS, which incorporates Large Language Models (LLM) into HAS to significantly boost the accuracy, ensure user privacy, and enhance personalized health service, while also improving the subjective quality of experience (QoE) for users. Our innovative framework leverages a Mixture of Experts (MoE) approach, augmented with LLM, to analyze users' personalized preferences and potential health risks from additional textual job descriptions. This analysis guides the selection of specialized Deep Reinforcement Learning (DDPG) experts, tasked with making precise health alerts. Moreover, LLM-HAS can process Conversational User Feedback, which not only allows fine-tuning of DDPG but also deepen user engagement, thereby enhancing both the accuracy and personalization of health management strategies. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the LLM-HAS framework, highlighting its potential as a groundbreaking approach for employing generative AI (GAI) to provide highly accurate and reliable alerts.

CA-FedRC: Codebook Adaptation via Federated Reservoir Computing in 5G NR

With the burgeon deployment of the fifth-generation new radio (5G NR) networks, the codebook plays a crucial role in enabling the base station (BS) to acquire the channel state information (CSI). Different 5G NR codebooks incur varying overheads and exhibit performance disparities under diverse channel conditions, necessitating codebook adaptation based on channel conditions to reduce feedback overhead while enhancing performance. However, existing methods of 5G NR codebooks adaptation require significant overhead for model training and feedback or fall short in performance. To address these limitations, this letter introduces a federated reservoir computing framework designed for efficient codebook adaptation in computationally and feedback resource-constrained mobile devices. This framework utilizes a novel series of indicators as input training data, striking an effective balance between performance and feedback overhead. Compared to conventional models, the proposed codebook adaptation via federated reservoir computing (CA-FedRC), achieves rapid convergence and significant loss reduction in both speed and accuracy. Extensive simulations under various channel conditions demonstrate that our algorithm not only reduces resource consumption of users but also accurately identifies channel types, thereby optimizing the trade-off between spectrum efficiency, computational complexity, and feedback overhead.

Federated Transfer Learning Aided Interference Classification in GNSS Signals

This study delves into the classification of interference signals to global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) stemming from mobile jammers such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across diverse wireless communication zones, employing federated learning (FL) and transfer learning (TL). Specifically, we employ a neural network classifier, enhanced with FL to decentralize data processing and TL to hasten the training process, aiming to improve interference classification accuracy while preserving data privacy. Our evaluations span multiple data scenarios, incorporating both independent and identically distributed (IID) and non-identically distributed (non-IID), to gauge the performance of our approach under different interference conditions. Our results indicate an improvement of approximately $8\%$ in classification accuracy compared to basic convolutional neural network (CNN) model, accompanied by expedited convergence in networks utilizing pre-trained models. Additionally, the implementation of FL not only developed privacy but also matched the robustness of centralized learning methods, particularly under IID scenarios. Moreover, the federated averaging (FedAvg) algorithm effectively manages regional interference variability, thereby enhancing the regional communication performance indicator, $C/N_0$, by roughly $5\text{dB}\cdot \text{Hz}$ compared to isolated setups.

Achieving Cooling Without Repump Lasers Through Ion Motional Heating

Laser cooling typically requires one or more repump lasers to clear dark states and enable recycling transitions. Here, we have achieved cooling of Be+ ions using a single laser beam, facilitated by one-dimensional heating through micromotion. By manipulating the displacement from the trap's nodal line, we precisely controlled the ion micromotion direction and speed, reaching up to 3144 m/s, which corresponds to a 7.1 GHz Doppler frequency shift in our experiment. This approach eliminates the necessity of a 1.25 GHz offset repump laser while keeping the Be+ ions cold in the perpendicular direction. Measurements were taken using cooling laser detuning and imaging of ion trajectories. Molecular dynamics simulations, based on machine learned time-dependent electric field E(X, Y, Z, t) inside the trap, accurately reproduced the experimental observation, illuminating the relationship between the direction of micromotion and the trapping electric filed vector. This work not only provides a robust method for managing the micromotion velocity of ions but also sheds light on laser cooling complex systems that require multiple repumping lasers. Additionally, it offers a method for controlling energy in the context of ion-molecule collision investigations.

Stochastic Process-based Method for Degree-Degree Correlation of Evolving Networks

Existing studies on the degree correlation of evolving networks typically rely on differential equations and statistical analysis, resulting in only approximate solutions due to inherent randomness. To address this limitation, we propose an improved Markov chain method for modeling degree correlation in evolving networks. By redesigning the network evolution rules to reflect actual network dynamics more accurately, we achieve a topological structure that closely matches real-world network evolution. Our method models the degree correlation evolution process for both directed and undirected networks and provides theoretical results that are verified through simulations. This work offers the first theoretical solution for the steady-state degree correlation in evolving network models and is applicable to more complex evolution mechanisms and networks with directional attributes. Additionally, it supports the study of dynamic characteristic control based on network structure at any given time, offering a new tool for researchers in the field.

Zero-Energy Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (zeRIS)

A primary objective of the forthcoming sixth generation (6G) of wireless networking is to support demanding applications, while ensuring energy efficiency. Programmable wireless environments (PWEs) have emerged as a promising solution, leveraging reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), to control wireless propagation and deliver exceptional quality-ofservice. In this paper, we analyze the performance of a network supported by zero-energy RISs (zeRISs), which harvest energy for their operation and contribute to the realization of PWEs. Specifically, we investigate joint energy-data rate outage probability and the energy efficiency of a zeRIS-assisted communication system by employing three harvest-and-reflect (HaR) methods, i) power splitting, ii) time switching, and iii) element splitting. Furthermore, we consider two zeRIS deployment strategies, namely BS-side zeRIS and UE-side zeRIS. Simulation results validate the provided analysis and examine which HaR method performs better depending on the zeRIS placement. Finally, valuable insights and conclusions for the performance of zeRISassisted wireless networks are drawn from the presented results.

Sensing-Resistance-Oriented Beamforming for Privacy Protection from ISAC Devices

With the evolution of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology, a growing number of devices go beyond conventional communication functions with sensing abilities. Therefore, future networks are divinable to encounter new privacy concerns on sensing, such as the exposure of position information to unintended receivers. In contrast to traditional privacy preserving schemes aiming to prevent eavesdropping, this contribution conceives a novel beamforming design toward sensing resistance (SR). Specifically, we expect to guarantee the communication quality while masking the real direction of the SR transmitter during the communication. To evaluate the SR performance, a metric termed angular-domain peak-to-average ratio (ADPAR) is first defined and analyzed. Then, we resort to the null-space technique to conceal the real direction, hence to convert the optimization problem to a more tractable form. Moreover, semidefinite relaxation along with index optimization is further utilized to obtain the optimal beamformer. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed SR-oriented beamforming design toward privacy protection from ISAC receivers.

From Hardware Fingerprint to Access Token: Enhancing the Authentication on IoT Devices

The proliferation of consumer IoT products in our daily lives has raised the need for secure device authentication and access control. Unfortunately, these resource-constrained devices typically use token-based authentication, which is vulnerable to token compromise attacks that allow attackers to impersonate the devices and perform malicious operations by stealing the access token. Using hardware fingerprints to secure their authentication is a promising way to mitigate these threats. However, once attackers have stolen some hardware fingerprints (e.g., via MitM attacks), they can bypass the hardware authentication by training a machine learning model to mimic fingerprints or reusing these fingerprints to craft forge requests. In this paper, we present MCU-Token, a secure hardware fingerprinting framework for MCU-based IoT devices even if the cryptographic mechanisms (e.g., private keys) are compromised. MCU-Token can be easily integrated with various IoT devices by simply adding a short hardware fingerprint-based token to the existing payload. To prevent the reuse of this token, we propose a message mapping approach that binds the token to a specific request via generating the hardware fingerprints based on the request payload. To defeat the machine learning attacks, we mix the valid fingerprints with poisoning data so that attackers cannot train a usable model with the leaked tokens. MCU-Token can defend against armored adversary who may replay, craft, and offload the requests via MitM or use both hardware (e.g., use identical devices) and software (e.g., machine learning attacks) strategies to mimic the fingerprints. The system evaluation shows that MCU-Token can achieve high accuracy (over 97%) with a low overhead across various IoT devices and application scenarios.

Deep Reinforcement Learning Empowered Activity-Aware Dynamic Health Monitoring Systems

In smart healthcare, health monitoring utilizes diverse tools and technologies to analyze patients' real-time biosignal data, enabling immediate actions and interventions. Existing monitoring approaches were designed on the premise that medical devices track several health metrics concurrently, tailored to their designated functional scope. This means that they report all relevant health values within that scope, which can result in excess resource use and the gathering of extraneous data due to monitoring irrelevant health metrics. In this context, we propose Dynamic Activity-Aware Health Monitoring strategy (DActAHM) for striking a balance between optimal monitoring performance and cost efficiency, a novel framework based on Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) and SlowFast Model to ensure precise monitoring based on users' activities. Specifically, with the SlowFast Model, DActAHM efficiently identifies individual activities and captures these results for enhanced processing. Subsequently, DActAHM refines health metric monitoring in response to the identified activity by incorporating a DRL framework. Extensive experiments comparing DActAHM against three state-of-the-art approaches demonstrate it achieves 27.3% higher gain than the best-performing baseline that fixes monitoring actions over timeline.

Joint Offloading and Resource Allocation for Hybrid Cloud and Edge Computing in SAGINs: A Decision Assisted Hybrid Action Space Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

In recent years, the amalgamation of satellite communications and aerial platforms into space-air-ground integrated network (SAGINs) has emerged as an indispensable area of research for future communications due to the global coverage capacity of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and the flexible Deployment of aerial platforms. This paper presents a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based approach for the joint optimization of offloading and resource allocation in hybrid cloud and multi-access edge computing (MEC) scenarios within SAGINs. The proposed system considers the presence of multiple satellites, clouds and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The multiple tasks from ground users are modeled as directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). With the goal of reducing energy consumption and latency in MEC, we propose a novel multi-agent algorithm based on DRL that optimizes both the offloading strategy and the allocation of resources in the MEC infrastructure within SAGIN. A hybrid action algorithm is utilized to address the challenge of hybrid continuous and discrete action space in the proposed problems, and a decision-assisted DRL method is adopted to reduce the impact of unavailable actions in the training process of DRL. Through extensive simulations, the results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed learning-based scheme, the proposed approach consistently outperforms benchmark schemes, highlighting its superior performance and potential for practical applications.

Learner Referral for Cost-Effective Federated Learning Over Hierarchical IoT Networks

The paradigm of federated learning (FL) to address data privacy concerns by locally training parameters on resource-constrained clients in a distributed manner has garnered significant attention. Nonetheless, FL is not applicable when not all clients within the coverage of the FL server are registered with the FL network. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes joint learner referral aided federated client selection (LRef-FedCS), along with communications and computing resource scheduling, and local model accuracy optimization (LMAO) methods. These methods are designed to minimize the cost incurred by the worst-case participant and ensure the long-term fairness of FL in hierarchical Internet of Things (HieIoT) networks. Utilizing the Lyapunov optimization technique, we reformulate the original problem into a stepwise joint optimization problem (JOP). Subsequently, to tackle the mixed-integer non-convex JOP, we separatively and iteratively address LRef-FedCS and LMAO through the centralized method and self-adaptive global best harmony search (SGHS) algorithm, respectively. To enhance scalability, we further propose a distributed LRef-FedCS approach based on a matching game to replace the centralized method described above. Numerical simulations and experimental results on the MNIST/CIFAR-10 datasets demonstrate that our proposed LRef-FedCS approach could achieve a good balance between pursuing high global accuracy and reducing cost.

Cost-Effective Task Offloading Scheduling for Hybrid Mobile Edge-Quantum Computing

In this paper, we aim to address the challenge of hybrid mobile edge-quantum computing (MEQC) for sustainable task offloading scheduling in mobile networks. We develop cost-effective designs for both task offloading mode selection and resource allocation, subject to the individual link latency constraint guarantees for mobile devices, while satisfying the required success ratio for their computation tasks. Specifically, this is a time-coupled offloading scheduling optimization problem in need of a computationally affordable and effective solution. To this end, we propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based Lyapunov approach. More precisely, we reformulate the original time-coupled challenge into a mixed-integer optimization problem by introducing a penalty part in terms of virtual queues constructed by time-coupled constraints to the objective function. Subsequently, a Deep Q-Network (DQN) is adopted for task offloading mode selection. In addition, we design the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG)-based algorithm for partial-task offloading decision-making. Finally, tested in a realistic network setting, extensive experiment results demonstrate that our proposed approach is significantly more cost-effective and sustainable compared to existing methods.
