Fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with stochastic forcing and its applications

We consider a fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process involving a stochastic forcing term in the drift, as a solution of a linear stochastic differential equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion. For such process we specify mean and covariance functions, concentrating on their asymptotic behavior. This gives us a sort of short- or long-range dependence, under specified hypotheses on the covariance of the forcing process. Applications of this process in neuronal modeling are discussed, providing an example of a stochastic forcing term as a linear combination of Heaviside functions with random center. Simulation algorithms for the sample path of this process are finally given.

Stochastic differential equations driven by additive Volterra-Lévy and Volterra-Gaussian noises

We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to stochastic differential equations with Volterra processes driven by Lévy noise. For this purpose, we study in detail smoothness properties of these processes. Special attention is given to two kinds of Volterra-Gaussian processes that generalize the compact interval representation of fractional Brownian motion and to stochastic equations with such processes.

Approximate solution of the integral equations involving kernel with additional singularity

The paper is devoted to the approximate solutions of the Fredholm integral equations of the second kind with the weak singular kernel that can have additional singularity in the numerator. We describe two problems that lead to such equations. They are the problem of minimization of small deviation and the entropy minimization problem. Both of them appear when considering dynamical system involving mixed fractional Brownian motion. In order to deal with the kernel with additional singularity applying well-known methods for weakly singular kernels, we prove the theorem on the approximation of solution of integral equation with the kernel containing additional singularity by the solutions of the integral equations whose kernels are weakly singular but the numerator is continuous. We demonstrate numerically how our methods work being applied to our specific integral equations.

Perpetual Integral Functionals of Multidimensional Stochastic Processes

The paper is devoted to the existence of integral functionals $\int_0^\infty f(X(t))\,{\mathrm{d}t}$ for several classes of processes in $\mathbb{R}$ with $d\ge 3$. Some examples such as Brownian motion, fractional Brownian motion, compound Poisson process, Markov processes admitting densities of transitional probabilities are considered.

How does tempering affect the local and global properties of fractional Brownian motion?

The present paper investigates the effects of tempering the power law kernel of moving average representation of a fractional Brownian motion (fBm) on some local and global properties of this Gaussian stochastic process. Tempered fractional Brownian motion (TFBM) and tempered fractional Brownian motion of the second kind (TFBMII) are the processes that are considered in order to investigate the role of tempering. Tempering does not change the local properties of fBm including the sample paths and p-variation, but it has a strong impact on the Breuer-Major theorem, asymptotic behavior of the 3rd and 4th cumulants of fBm and the optimal fourth moment theorem.

Two methods of estimation of the drift parameters of the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process: continuous observations

We consider a stochastic differential equation of the form $dr_t = (a - b r_t) dt + σ\sqrt{r_t}dW_t$, where $a$, $b$ and $σ$ are positive constants. The solution corresponds to the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process. We study the estimation of an unknown drift parameter $(a,b)$ by continuous observations of a sample path $\{r_t,t\in[0,T]\}$. First, we prove the strong consistency of the maximum likelihood estimator. Since this estimator is well-defined only in the case $2a>σ^2$, we propose another estimator that is defined and strongly consistent for all positive $a$, $b$, $σ$. The quality of the estimators is illustrated by simulation results.

Asymptotic behaviour and functional limit theorems for a time changed Wiener process

We study the asymptotic behaviour of a properly normalized time changed Wiener processes. The time change reflects the fact that we consider the Laplace operator (which generates a Wiener process) multiplied by a possibly degenerate state-space dependent intensity $λ(x)$. Applying a functional limit theorem for the superposition of stochastic processes, we prove functional limit theorems for the normalized time changed Wiener process. The normalization depends on the asymptotic behaviour of the intensity function $λ$. One of the possible limits is a skew Brownian motion.

Time-changed fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process

We define a time-changed fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process by composing a fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with the inverse of a subordinator. Properties of the moments of such process are investigated and the existence of the density is shown. We also provide a generalized Fokker-Planck equation for the density of the process.

Gaussian processes with Volterra kernels

We study Volterra processes $X_t = \int_0^t K(t,s) dW_s$, where $W$ is a standard Wiener process, and the kernel has the form $K(t,s) = a(s) \int_s^t b(u) c(u-s) du$. This form generalizes the Volterra kernel for fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst index $H>1/2$. We establish smoothness properties of $X$, including continuity and Holder property. It happens that its Holder smoothness is close to well-known Holder smoothness of fBm but is a bit worse. We give a comparison with fBm for any smoothness theorem. Then we investigate the problem of inverse representation of $W$ via $X$ in the case where $c\in L^1[0,T]$ creates a Sonine pair, i.e. there exists $h\in L^1[0,T]$ such that $c * h = 1$. It is a natural extension of the respective property of fBm that generates the same filtration with the underlying Wiener process. Since the inverse representation of the Gaussian processes under consideration are based on the properties of Sonine pairs, we provide several examples of Sonine pairs, both well-known and new. Key words: Gaussian process, Volterra process, Sonine pair, continuity, Holder property, inverse representation.

Fractional integrals, derivatives and integral equations with weighted Takagi-Landsberg functions

In this paper we find fractional Riemann-Liouville derivatives for the Takagi-Landsberg functions. Moreover, we introduce their generalizations called weighted Takagi-Landsberg functions which have arbitrary bounded coefficients in the expansion under Schauder basis. The class of the weighted Takagi- Landsberg functions of order $H>0$ on $[0,1]$ coincides with the $H$-Hölder continuous functions on $[0,1]$. Based on computed fractional integrals and derivatives of the Haar and Schauder functions, we get a new series representation of the fractional derivatives of a Hölder continuous function. This result allows to get the new formula of a Riemann-Stieltjes integral. The application of such series representation is the new method of numerical solution of the Volterra and linear integral equations driven by a Hölder continuous function.

Boundary non-crossing probabilities of Gaussian processes: sharp bounds and asymptotics

We study boundary non-crossing probabilities $$ P_{f,u} := \mathrm P\big(\forall t\in \mathbb T\ X_t + f(t)\le u(t)\big) $$ for continuous centered Gaussian process $X$ indexed by some arbitrary compact separable metric space $\mathbb T$. We obtain both upper and lower bounds for $P_{f,u}$. The bounds are matching in the sense that they lead to precise logarithmic asymptotics for the large-drift case $P_{y f,u}$, $y \to+\infty$, which are two-term approximations (up to $o(y)$). The asymptotics are formulated in terms of the solution $\tilde f$ to the constrained optimization problem $$ \|h\|_{\mathbb H_X}\to \min, \quad h\in \mathbb H_X, h\ge f $$ in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space $\mathbb H_X$ of $X$. Several applications of the results are further presented.

Fractional Cox--Ingersoll--Ross process with small Hurst indices

In this paper the fractional Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process on $\mathbb{R}_+$ for $H<1/2$ is defined as a square of a pointwise limit of the processes $Y_{\varepsilon}$, satisfying the SDE of the form $d Y_{\varepsilon}(t)=( \frac{k}{ Y_{\varepsilon}(t)\mathbb{1}_{\{ Y_{\varepsilon}(t)>0\}}+\varepsilon}-a Y_{\varepsilon}(t))dt+σdB^H(t)$, as $\varepsilon\downarrow0$. Properties of such limit process are considered. SDE for both the limit process and the fractional Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process are obtained.

Fractional stochastic heat equation with piecewise constant coefficients

We introduce a fractional stochastic heat equation with second order elliptic operator in divergence form, having a piecewise constant diffusion coefficient, and driven by an infinite-dimensional fractional Brownian motion. We characterize the fundamental solution of its deterministic part, and prove the existence and the uniqueness of its solution.

Limit theorems for additive functionals of continuous time random walks

For a continuous-time random walk $X=\{X_t,t\ge 0\}$ (in general non-Markov), we study the asymptotic behavior, as $t\rightarrow \infty$, of the normalized additive functional $c_t\int_0^{t} f(X_s)ds$, $t\ge 0$. Similarly to the Markov situation, assuming that the distribution of jumps of $X$ belongs to the domain of attraction to $α$-stable law with $α>1$, we establish the convergence to the local time at zero of an $α$-stable Lévy motion. We further study a situation where $X$ is delayed by a random environment given by the Poisson shot-noise potential: $Λ(x,γ)= e^{-\sum_{y\in γ} ϕ(x-y)},$ where $ϕ\colon\mathbb R\to [0,\infty)$ is a bounded function decaying sufficiently fast, and $γ$ is a homogeneous Poisson point process, independent of $X$. We find that in this case the weak limit has both "quenched" component depending on $Λ$, and a component, where $Λ$ is "averaged".

Option pricing in fractional Heston-type model

In this paper, we consider option pricing in a framework of the fractional Heston-type model with $H>1/2$. As it is impossible to obtain an explicit formula for the expectation $\mathbb E f(S_T)$ in this case, where $S_T$ is the asset price at maturity time and $f$ is a payoff function, we provide a discretization schemes $\hat Y^n$ and $\hat S^n$ for volatility and price processes correspondingly and study convergence $\mathbb E f(\hat S^n_T) \to \mathbb E f(S_T)$ as the mesh of the partition tends to zero. The rate of convergence is calculated. As we allow $f$ to have discontinuities of the first kind which can cause errors in straightforward Monte-Carlo estimation of the expectation, we use Malliavin calculus techniques to provide an alternative formula for $\mathbb E f(S_T)$ with smooth functional under the expectation.

Constructing functions with prescribed pathwise quadratic variation

We construct rich vector spaces of continuous functions with prescribed curved or linear pathwise quadratic variations. We also construct a class of functions whose quadratic variation may depend in a local and nonlinear way on the function value. These functions can then be used as integrators in Föllmer's pathwise Itō calculus. Our construction of the latter class of functions relies on an extension of the Doss--Sussman method to a class of nonlinear Itō differential equations for the Föllmer integral. As an application, we provide a deterministic variant of the support theorem for diffusions. We also establish that many of the constructed functions are nowhere differentiable.
