Symmetric semi-perfect obstruction theory revisited

In this paper we survey some results on the symmetric semi-perfect obstruction theory on a Deligne-Mumford stack $X$ constructed by Chang-Li, and Behrend's theorem equating the weighted Euler characteristic of $X$ and the virtual count of $X$ by symmetric semi-perfect obstruction theories. As an application, we prove that Joyce's d-critical scheme admits a symmetric semi-perfect obstruction theory, which can be applied to the virtual Euler characteristics by Jiang-Thomas.

$T\bar{T}$ deformed partition functions

We demonstrate the presence of modular properties in partition functions of $T\bar{T}$ deformed conformal field theories. These properties are verified explicitly for the deformed free boson. The modular features facilitate a derivation of the asymptotic density of states in these theories, which turns out to interpolate between Cardy and Hagedorn behaviours. We also point out a sub-sector of the spectrum that remains undeformed under the $T\bar{T}$ flow. Finally, we comment on the deformation of the CFT vacuum character and its implications for the holographic dual.

Positivity of hexagon perturbation theory

The hexagon-form-factor program was proposed as a way to compute three- and higher-point correlation functions in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-symmetric Yang-Mills theory and in the dual AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ superstring theory, by exploiting the integrability of the theory in the 't Hooft limit. This approach is reminiscent of the asymptotic Bethe ansatz in that it applies to a large-volume expansion. Finite-volume corrections can be incorporated through Lüscher-like formulae, though the systematics of this expansion is largely unexplored so far. Strikingly, finite-volume corrections may feature negative powers of the 't Hooft coupling $g$ in the small-$g$ expansion, potentially leading to a breakdown of the formalism. In this work we show that the finite-volume perturbation theory for the hexagon is positive and thereby compatible with the weak-coupling expansion for arbitrary $n$-point functions.

Algebraic geometry and Bethe ansatz (I) the quotient ring for BAE

In this paper and upcoming ones, we initiate a systematic study of Bethe ansatz equations for integrable models by modern computational algebraic geometry. We show that algebraic geometry provides a natural mathematical language and powerful tools for understanding the structure of solution space of Bethe ansatz equations. In particular, we find novel efficient methods to count the number of solutions of Bethe ansatz equations based on Gröbner basis and quotient ring. We also develop analytical approach based on companion matrix to perform the sum of on-shell quantities over all physical solutions without solving Bethe ansatz equations explicitly. To demonstrate the power of our method, we revisit the completeness problem of Bethe ansatz of Heisenberg spin chain, and calculate the sum rules of OPE coefficients in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory.

Note on MacPherson's local Euler obstruction

This is a note on MacPherson's local Euler obstruction, which plays an important role recently in Donaldson-Thomas theory by the work of Behrend. We introduce MacPherson's original definition, and prove that it is equivalent to the algebraic definition used by Behrend, following the method of Gonzalez-Sprinberg. We also give a formula of the local Euler obstruction in terms of Lagrangian intersections. As an application, we consider a scheme or DM stack $X$ admitting a symmetric obstruction theory. Furthermore we assume that there is a $\CC^*$ action on $X$, which makes the obstruction theory $\CC^*$-equivariant. The $\CC^*$-action on the obstruction theory naturally gives rise to a cosection map in the sense of Kiem-Li. We prove that Behrend's weighted Euler characteristic of $X$ is the same as Kiem-Li localized invariant of $X$ by the $\CC^*$-action.

The moduli space of stable coherent sheaves via non-archimedean geometry

We provide a construction of the moduli space of stable coherent sheaves in the world of non-archimedean geometry, where we use the notion of Berkovich non-archimedean analytic spaces. The motivation for our construction is Tony Yue Yu's non-archimedean enumerative geometry in Gromov-Witten theory. The construction of the moduli space of stable sheaves using Berkovich analytic spaces will give rise to the non-archimedean version of Donaldson-Thomas invariants. In this paper we give the moduli construction over a non-archimedean field $\kk$. We use the machinery of formal schemes, that is, we define and construct the formal moduli stack of (semi)-stable coherent sheaves over a discrete valuation ring $R$, and taking generic fiber we get the non-archimedean analytic moduli of semistable coherent sheaves over the fractional non-archimedean field $\kk$. For a moduli space of stable sheaves of an algebraic variety $X$ over an algebraically closed field $κ$, the analytification of such a moduli space gives an example of the non-archimedean moduli space. We generalize Joyce's $d$-critical scheme structure in \cite{Joyce} or Kiem-Li's virtual critical manifolds in \cite{KL} to the world of formal schemes, and Berkovich non-archimedean analytic spaces. As an application, we provide a proof for the motivic localization formula for a $d$-critical non-archimedean $\kk$-analytic space using global motive of vanishing cycles and motivic integration on oriented formal $d$-critical schemes. This generalizes Maulik's motivic localization formula for motivic Donaldson-Thomas invariants.

Colour-dressed hexagon tessellations for correlation functions and non-planar corrections

We continue the study of four-point correlation functions by the hexagon tessellation approach initiated in 1611.05436 and 1611.05577. We consider planar tree-level correlation functions in $\mathcal{N} = 4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory involving two non-protected operators. We find that, in order to reproduce the field theory result, it is necessary to include $SU(N)$ colour factors in the hexagon formalism; moreover, we find that the hexagon approach as it stands is naturally tailored to the single-trace part of correlation functions, and does not account for multi-trace admixtures. We discuss how to compute correlators involving double-trace operators, as well as more general $1/N$ effects; in particular we compute the whole next-to-leading order in the large-$N$ expansion of tree-level BMN two-point functions by tessellating a torus with punctures. Finally, we turn to the issue of "wrapping", Lüscher-like corrections. We show that $SU(N)$ colour-dressing reproduces an earlier empirical rule for incorporating single-magnon wrapping, and we provide a direct interpretation of such wrapping processes in terms of $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric Feynman diagrams.

Centralized Recursive Optimal Scheduling of Parallel Buck Regulated Battery Modules

This paper presents a centralized recursive optimal scheduling method for a battery system that consists of parallel connected battery modules with different open circuit voltages and battery impedance characteristics. Examples of such a battery system can be found in second-life, exchangeable or repurposed battery systems in which batteries with different charge or age characteristics are combined to create a larger storage capacity. The proposed method in this paper takes advantage of the availability of buck regulators in the battery management system (BMS) to compute the optimal voltage adjustment of the individual modules to minimize the effect of stray currents between the parallel connected battery modules. Our proposed method recursively computes the optimal current scheduling that balances (equals) each module current and maximize total bus current without violating any of the battery modules operating constraints. Recursive implementation guarantees robust operation as the battery modules operating parameters change as the battery pack (dis)charges or ages. In order to demonstrate the capability of this method in real battery system, an experimental setup of 3 parallel placed battery modules is built. The experimental results validate the feasibility and show the advantages of this current scheduling method in a real battery application, despite the fact that each module may have different impedance, open circuit voltage and charge parameters.

Entanglement Entropy in Integrable Field Theories with Line Defects I. Topological Defect

In this paper and a companion one, we study the effect of integrable line defects on entanglement entropy in massive integrable field theories in 1+1 dimensions. The current paper focuses on topological defects that are purely transmissive. Using the form factor bootstrap method, we show that topological defects do not affect the the entanglement entropy in the UV limit and modify slightly the leading exponential correction in the IR. This conclusion holds for both unitary and non-unitary field theories. In contrast, non-topological defects affect the entanglement entropy more significantly both in UV and IR limit and will be studied in the companion paper.

Entanglement Entropy in Integrable Field Theories with Line Defects II. Non-topological Defect

This is the second part of two papers where we study the effect of integrable line defects on bipartite entanglement entropy in integrable field theories. In this paper, we consider non-topological line defects in Ising field theory. We derive an infinite series expression for the entanglement entropy and show that both the UV and IR limits of the bulk entanglement entropy are modified by the line defect. In the UV limit, we give an infinite series expression for the coefficient in front of the logarithmic divergence and the exact defect $g$-function. By tuning the defect to be purely transmissive and reflective, we recover correctly the entanglement entropy of the bulk and with integrable boundary.

On the Semi-Classical Limit of Scalar Products of the XXZ Spin Chain

We study the scalar products between Bethe states in the XXZ spin chain with anisotropy $|Δ|>1$ in the semi-classical limit where the length of the spin chain and the number of magnons tend to infinity with their ratio kept finite and fixed. Our method is a natural yet non-trivial generalization of similar methods developed for the XXX spin chain. The final result can be written in a compact form as a contour integral in terms of Faddeev's quantum dilogarithm function, which in the isotropic limit reduces to the classical dilogarithm function.

Note on the Bondal-Orlov Functors for Toric DM Stacks

We calculate explicit formulas for the general equivariant Bondal-Orlov functors on the localized K-theory groups for a crepant birational transformation of toric DM stacks. We recall some facts that the Bondal-Orlov functors give equivalences on the bounded derived categories. Applying twice of these functors we get the Seidel-Thomas spherical twists for the derived category.

We study Givental's Lagrangian cone for the quantum orbifold cohomology of toric stack bundles and prove that the I-function gives points in the Lagrangian cone, namely we construct an explicit slice of the Lagrangian cone defined by the genus $0$ Gromov-Witten theory of a toric stack bundle.

K-Theoretic and Categorical Properties of Toric Deligne--Mumford Stacks

We prove the following results for toric Deligne-Mumford stacks, under minimal compactness hypotheses: the Localization Theorem in equivariant K-theory; the equivariant Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch theorem; the Fourier--Mukai transformation associated to a crepant toric wall-crossing gives an equivariant derived equivalence.

Clustering and the Three-Point Function

We develop analytical methods for computing the structure constant for three heavy operators, starting from the recently proposed hexagon approach. Such a structure constant is a semiclassical object, with the scale set by the inverse length of the operators playing the role of the Planck constant. We reformulate the hexagon expansion in terms of multiple contour integrals and recast it as a sum over clusters generated by the residues of the measure of integration. We test the method on two examples. First, we compute the asymptotic three-point function of heavy fields at any coupling and show the result in the semiclassical limit matches both the string theory computation at strong coupling and the tree-level results obtained before. Second, in the case of one non-BPS and two BPS operators at strong coupling we sum up all wrapping corrections associated with the opposite bridge to the non-trivial operator, or the "bottom" mirror channel. We also give an alternative interpretation of the results in terms of a gas of fermions and show that they can be expressed compactly as an operator-valued super-determinant.

The Crepant Transformation Conjecture implies the Monodromy Conjecture

In this note we prove that the crepant transformation conjecture for a crepant birational transformation of Lawrence toric DM stacks studied in \cite{CIJ} implies the monodromy conjecture for the associated wall crossing of the symplectic resolutions of hypertoric stacks, due to Braverman, Maulik and Okounkov.

Virtual signed Euler characteristics

Roughly speaking, to any space $M$ with perfect obstruction theory we associate a space $N$ with symmetric perfect obstruction theory. It is a cone over $M$ given by the dual of the obstruction sheaf of $M$, and contains $M$ as its zero section. It is locally the critical locus of a function. More precisely, in the language of derived algebraic geometry, to any quasi-smooth space $M$ we associate its $(-1)$-shifted cotangent bundle $N$. By localising from $N$ to its $\mathbb C^*$-fixed locus $M$ this gives five notions of virtual signed Euler characteristic of $M$: (1) The Ciocan-Fontanine-Kapranov/Fantechi-Göttsche signed virtual Euler characteristic of $M$ defined using its own obstruction theory, (2) Graber-Pandharipande's virtual Atiyah-Bott localisation of the virtual cycle of $N$ to $M$, (3) Behrend's Kai-weighted Euler characteristic localisation of the virtual cycle of $N$ to $M$, (4) Kiem-Li's cosection localisation of the virtual cycle of $N$ to $M$, (5) $(-1)^{vd}$ times by the topological Euler characteristic of $M$. Our main result is that (1)=(2) and (3)=(4)=(5). The first two are deformation invariant while the last three are not.

Diagonal Form Factors and Hexagon Form Factors II. Non-BPS Light Operator

We study the asymptotic volume dependence of the heavy-heavy-light three-point functions in the $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super-Yang-Mills theory using the hexagon bootstrap approach, where the volume is the length of the heavy operator. We extend the analysis of our previous short letter 1511.06199 to the general case where the heavy operators can be in any rank one sector and the light operator being a generic non-BPS operator. We prove the conjecture of Bajnok, Janik and Wereszczynski 1404.4556 up to leading finite size corrections.
