An integrated readout system for parallel-plate avalanche counter and multi-wire drift chamber at HIAF-HIRIBL

A newly developed, highly-integrated multi-channel front-end readout system -- FEAM-256 -- is presented for use with position-sensitive gaseous detectors, including parallel-plate avalanche counters (PPACs) and multi-wire drift chambers (MWDCs). The system's position resolution was characterized using both an $α$ source and cosmic-ray muons. Intrinsic position resolutions of 320 $μ$m for the PPAC, and 424 $μ$m for the MWDC were achieved. Designed specifically for integration into the data-acquisition infrastructure at the High-Rigidity radioactive Ion Beam Line (HIRIBL) of China's High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), FEAM-256 enables seamless incorporation of PPAC and MWDC detectors into the HIRIBL experimental setup.

Deep underground laboratory measurement of $^{13}$C($α$,$n$)$^{16}$O in the Gamow windows of the $s$- and $i$-processes

The $^{13}$C($α$,$n$)$^{16}$O reaction is the main neutron source for the slow-neutron-capture (s-) process in Asymptotic Giant Branch stars and for the intermediate (i-) process. Direct measurements at astrophysical energies in above-ground laboratories are hindered by the extremely small cross sections and vast cosmic-ray induced background. We performed the first consistent direct measurement in the range of $E_{\rm c.m.}=$0.24 MeV to 1.9 MeV using the accelerators at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL) and Sichuan University. Our measurement covers almost the entire i-process Gamow window in which the large uncertainty of the previous experiments has been reduced from 60\% down to 15\%, eliminates the large systematic uncertainty in the extrapolation arising from the inconsistency of existing data sets, and provides a more reliable reaction rate for the studies of the s- and i-processes along with the first direct determination of the alpha strength for the near-threshold state.

Development of a low-background neutron detector array

A low-background neutron detector array was developed to measure the cross section of the $^{13}$C($α$,n)$^{16}$O reaction, which is the neutron source for the $s$-process in AGB stars, in the Gamow window ($E_{c.m.}$ = 190 $\pm$ 40 keV) at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL). The detector array consists of 24 $^{3}$He proportional counters embedded in a polyethylene cube. Due to the deep underground location and a borated polyethylene shield around the detector array, a low background of 4.5(2)/hour was achieved. The $^{51}$V(p, n)$^{51}$Cr reaction was used to determine the neutron detection efficiency of the array for neutrons with energy $E_n$ $<$ 1 MeV. Geant4 simulations, which were shown to well reproduce experimental results, were used to extrapolate the detection efficiency to higher energies for neutrons emitted in the $^{13}$C($α$,n) $^{16}$O reaction. The theoretical angular distributions of the $^{13}$C($α$,n)$^{16}$O reaction were shown to be important in estimating the uncertainties of the detection efficiency.

The upgrade of EAST Safety and Interlock system

The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), a nation-level large-scale scientific project of China, plays a key role for the research of peaceful utilizations of fusion energy. The safety and interlock system (SIS) is in charge of the supervision and control of all the EAST components involved in the protection of human and tokamak from potential accidents. With the development of physical experiment, the SIS had come close to reaching its limits for expandability. Therefore, a prototype for upgrading EAST SIS has been designed, and a fast architecture based on COTS FPGA is absorbed into the new SIS. This paper presents EAST machine and human protection mechanism and the architecture of the upgrading safety and interlock system.

Real time state monitoring and fault diagnosis system for motor based on LabVIEW

Motor is the most widely used production equipment in industrial field. In order to realize the real-time state monitoring and multi-fault pre-diagnosis of three-phase motor, this paper presents a design of three-phase motor state monitoring and fault diagnosis system based on LabVIEW. The multi-dimensional vibration acceleration, rotational speed, temperature, current and voltage signals of the motor are collected with NI cDAQ acquisition equipment in real time and high speed. At the same time, the model of motor health state and fault state is established. The order analysis algorithm is used to analyze the data at an advanced level, and the diagnosis and classification of different fault types are realized. The system is equipped with multi-channel acquisition, display, analysis and storage. Combined with the current cloud transmission technology, we will back up the data to the cloud to be used by other terminals.

Upgrade of the Analog Integrator for EAST Device

Integrators are fundamental instruments to recover differential signals from magnetic probes in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) experiments. A kind of difference integrator is introduced which has the same structure as the standard difference amplifier. The linear fitting method is used for determining the effective drift slope, then the plasma control system (PCS) use the drift slope to rectify the integration signal in real time. A new integrator controller was developed, which uses an ARM micro-controller and the lightweight IP protocol stack to realize the network control. The tests show that the upgraded integrator works well, its CMRR is high up to 125 dB when the common voltage is 1.5 V, and the processed integration drift is about 200 uVs /1000 s.
