Vortex state in iron-based superconductors with collinear antiferromagnetic cores

Magnetism in the FeAs stoichiometric compounds and its interplay with superconductivity in vortex states are studied by self-consistently solving the BdG equations based on a two-orbital model with including the on-site interactions between electrons in the two orbitals. It is revealed that for the parent compound, magnetism is caused by the strong Hund's coupling, and the Fermi surface topology aids to select the spin-density-wave (SDW) pattern. The superconducting (SC) order parameter with $s_{\pm}=Δ_{0}\cos(k_{x})\cos(k_{y})$ symmetry is found to be the most favorable pairing for both the electron- and hole-doped cases, while the local density-of-states (LDOS) exhibits the characteristic of nodal gap for the former and full gap for the latter. In the vortex state, the emergence of the field-induced SDW depends on the strength of the Hund's coupling and the Coulomb repulsions. The field-induced SDW gaps the finite energy contours on the electron and hole pocket sides, leading to the dual structures with one reflecting the SC pairing and the other being related to the SDW order. These features can be discernable in STM measurements for identifying the interplay between the field-induced SDW order and the SC order around the core region.

Imbalanced superfluid state in an annular disk

The imbalanced superfluid state of spin-1/2 fermions with s-wave pairing is numerically studied by solving the Bogoliubov-de-Gennes equation at zero temperature in an annular disk geometry with narrow radial width. Two distinct types of systems are considered. The first case may be relevant to heavy fermion superconductors, where magnetic field causes spin imbalance via Zeeman interaction and the system is studied in a grand canonical ensemble. As the magnetic field increases, the system is transformed from the uniform superfluid state to the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state, and finally to the spin polarized normal state. The second case may be relevant to cold fermionic systems, where the numbers of fermions of each species are fixed as in a canonical ensemble. In this case, the groundstate depends on the pairing strength. For weak pairing, the order parameter exhibits a periodic domain wall lattice pattern with a localized spin distribution at low spin imbalance, and a sinusoidally modulated pattern with extended spin distribution at high spin imbalance. For strong pairing, the phase separation between superfluid state and polarized normal state is found to be more preferable, while the increase of spin imbalance simply changes the ratio between them.

Quantum computation in decoherence-free subspace with superconducting devices

We propose a scheme to implement quantum computation in decoherence-free subspace with superconducting devices inside a cavity by unconventional geometric manipulation. Universal single-qubit gates in encoded qubit can be achieved with cavity assisted interaction. A measurement-based two-qubit Controlled-Not gate is produced with parity measurements assisted by an auxiliary superconducting device and followed by prescribed single-qubit gates. The measurement of currents on two parallel devices can realize a projective measurement, which is equivalent to the parity measurement on the involved devices.

Theory of Optically-Driven Sideband Cooling for Atomic Collective Excitations and Its Generalization

We explore how to cool atomic collective excitations in an optically-driven three-level atomic ensemble, which may be described by a model of coupled two harmonic oscillators (HOs) with a time-dependent coupling. Moreover, the coupled two-HO model is further generalized to address other cooling issues, where the lower-frequency HO can be cooled whenever the cooling process dominates over the heating one during the sideband transitions. Unusually, due to the absence of the heating process, the optimal cooling of our first cooling protocol for collective excitations in an atomic ensemble could break a usual sideband cooling limit for general coupled two-HO models.

Delocalization of relativistic Dirac particles in disordered one-dimensional systems and its implementation with cold atoms

We study theoretically the localization of relativistic particles in disordered one-dimensional chains. It is found that the relativistic particles tend to dislocation in comparison with the non-relativistic particles with the same disorder strength. More intriguingly, we reveal that the massless Dirac particles are entirely delocalized for any energy due to the inherent chiral symmetry, leading to a well-known result that particles are always localized in one-dimensional system for arbitrary weak disorders to break down. Furthermore, we propose a feasible scheme to simulate and detect the delocalization feature of the Dirac particles with cold atoms..

Implementing topological quantum manipulation with superconducting circuits

A two-component fermion model with conventional two-body interactions was recently shown to have anyonic excitations. We here propose a scheme to physically implement this model by transforming each chain of two two-component fermions to the two capacitively coupled chains of superconducting devices. In particular, we elaborate how to achieve the wanted operations to create and manipulate the topological quantum states, providing an experimentally feasible scenario to access the topological memory and to build the anyonic interferometry.

Implementing Genuine Multi-Qubit Entanglement of Two-Level-System Inside a Superconducting Phase Qubit

The interaction between a superconducting phase qubit and the two-level systems locating inside the Josephson tunnel barrier is shown to be described by the XY model, which is naturally used to implement the iSWAP gate. With this gate, we propose a scheme to efficiently generate genuine multi-qubit entangled states of such two-level systems, including multipartite W state and cluster states. In particularly, we show that, with the help of the phase qubit, the entanglement witness can be used to efficiently detect the produced genuine multi-qubit entangled states. Furthermore, we analyze that the proposed approach for generating multi-qubit entangled states can be used in a wide class of candidates for quantum computation.

Realizing and Detecting the Haldane's Quantum Hall effect with Ultracold Atoms

We design an ingenious scheme to realize the Haldane's quantum Hall model without Landau level by using ultracold atoms trapped in an optical lattice. Three standing-wave laser beams are used to construct a wanted honeycomb lattice, where different on-site energies in two sublattices required in the Haldane's model can be implemented through tuning the phase of one of the laser beams. The staggered magnetic field is generated from the Berry phase associated with the atom moving in a region with other three standing-wave laser beams. Moreover, we establish a relation between the Hall conductivity and the equilibrium atomic density upon turning on a stimulated uniform magnetic field, which enables us to detect the topological Chern number with the density profile measurement technique that is typically used in ultracold atoms experiments.

Entanglement in a class of multiqubit mixed states without multipartite tangles

Based on quantum complementary relations (QCRs) and a purification scenario, we analyze a class of N-qubit mixed states that are entangled but do not have two-, and genuine three-, four-, ..., N-qubit entanglements. It is shown that entanglement (one-tangle or negativity) in these mixed states is closely related to the QCR entanglement of their purified states. In particular, it is elaborated that when the mixed state does not have multipartite tangles (two- and higher tangles), its entanglement is actually a kind of genuine multipartite QCR entanglement between the system and its environment.

Spin Fluctuations, Interband Coupling, and Unconventional Pairing in Iron-based Superconductors

Based on an effective two-band model and using the fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approach, we explore spin fluctuations and unconventional superconducting pairing in Fe-based layer superconductors. It is elaborated that one type of interband antiferromagnetic (AF) spin fluctuation stems from the interband Coulomb repulsion, while the other type of intraband AF spin fluctuation originates from the intraband Coulomb repulsion. Due to the Fermi-surface topology, a spin-singlet extended s-wave superconducting state is more favorable than the nodal $d_{XY}$-wave state if the interband AF spin fluctuation is more significant than the intraband one, otherwise vice versa. It is also revealed that the effective interband coupling plays an important role in the intraband pairings, which is a distinct feature of the present two-band system.

An additive and operational entanglement measure: conditional entanglement of mutual information

Based on the monogamy of entanglement, we develop the technique of quantum conditioning to build an {\it additive} entanglement measure: the conditional entanglement of mutual information. Its {\it operational} meaning is elaborated to be the minimal net "flow of qubits" in the process of partial state merging. The result and conclusion can also be generalized to multipartite entanglement cases.

Quantum state redistribution based on a generalized decoupling

We develop a simple protocol for a one-shot version of quantum state redistribution, which is the most general two-terminal source coding problem. The protocol is simplified from a combination of protocols for the fully quantum reverse Shannon and fully quantum Slepian-Wolf problems, with its time-reversal symmetry being apparent. When the protocol is applied to the case where the redistributed states have a tensor power structure, more natural resource rates are obtained.

Quantum secret sharing based on Smolin states alone

It was indicated [Yu 2007 Phys. Rev. A 75 066301] that a previous proposed quantum secret sharing (QSS) protocol based on Smolin states [Augusiak 2006 Phys. Rev. A 73 012318] is insecure against an internal cheater. Here we build a different QSS protocol with Smolin states alone, and prove it to be secure against known cheating strategies. Thus we open a promising venue for building secure QSS using merely Smolin states, which is a typical kind of bound entangled states. We also propose a feasible scheme to implement the protocol experimentally.

Impurity states in antiferromagnetic Iron Arsenides

We explore theoretically impurity states in the antiferromagnetic spin-density wave state of the iron arsenide. Two types of impurity models are employed: one has only the intraband scattering while the other has both the intraband and interband scattering with the equal strength. Interestingly, the impurity bound state is revealed around the impurity site in the energy gap for both models. However, the impurity state is doubly degenerate with respect to spin for the first case; while the single impurity state is observed in either the spin-up or spin-down channel for the second one. The impurity-induced variations of the local density of states are also examined.

Evolution equation of entanglement for general bipartite systems

We explore how entanglement of a general bipartite system evolves when one subsystem undergoes the action of an arbitrary noisy channel. It is found that the dynamics of entanglement for general bipartite systems under the influence of such channel is determined by the channel's action on the maximally entangled state, which includes as a special case the results for two-qubit systems [Nature Physics 4, 99 (2008)]. In particular, for multi-qubit or qubit-qudit systems, we get a general factorization law for evolution equation of entanglement with one qubit being subject to a noisy channel. Our results can help the experimental characterization of entanglement dynamics.

Electronic structure and exotic exchange splitting in spin-density-wave states of BaFe$_2$As$_2$

The magnetic properties in the parent compounds are often intimately related to the microscopic mechanism of superconductivity. Here we report the first direct measurements on the electronic structure of a parent compound of the newly discovered iron-based superconductor, BaFe$_2$As$_2$, which provides a foundation for further studies. We show that the energy of the spin density wave (SDW) in BaFe$_2$As$_2$ is lowered through exotic exchange splitting of the band structure, rather than Fermi surface nesting of itinerant electrons. This clearly demonstrates that a metallic SDW state could be solely induced by interactions of local magnetic moments, resembling the nature of antiferromagnetic order in cuprate parent compounds.

Practically secure quantum bit commitment based on quantum seals

The relationship between the quantum bit commitment (QBC) and quantum seal (QS) is studied. It is elaborated that QBC and QS are not equivalent, but QS protocols satisfying a stronger unconditional security requirement can lead to an unconditionally secure QBC. In this sense, QS is strictly stronger than QBC in security requirements. Based on an earlier proposal on sealing a single bit, a feasible QBC protocol is also put forward, which is secure in practice even if the cheater has a strong quantum computational power.

A Generic Two-band Model for Unconventional Superconductivity and Spin-Density-Wave Order in Electron and Hole Doped Iron-Based Superconductors

Based on experimental data on the newly synthesized iron-based superconductors and the relevant band structure calculations, we propose a minimal two-band BCS-type Hamiltonian with the interband Hubbard interaction included. We illustrate that this two-band model is able to capture the essential features of unconventional superconductivity and spin density wave (SDW) ordering in this family of materials. It is found that bound electron-hole pairs can be condensed to reveal the SDW ordering for zero and very small doping, while the superconducting ordering emerges at small finite doping, whose pairing symmetry is qualitatively analyzed to be of nodal d-wave. The derived analytical formulas not only give out a nearly symmetric phase diagram for electron and hole doping, but also is likely able to account for existing main experimental results. Moreover, we also derive two important relations for a general two-band model and elaborate how to apply them to determine the band width ratio and the effective interband coupling strength from experimental data.
