Shadow of novel rotating black holes in GR coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics and constraints from EHT results

We study the optical properties of spacetime around a novel regular black hole (BH) in general relativity (GR) coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics (NED), which is asymptotically flat. First, we study the angular velocity and Lyapunov exponent in unstable photon circular orbits in the novel spherically symmetric BH spacetime. Later, the rotating regular BH solution is obtained using the Newmann-Janis algorithm, and the event horizon properties of the BH are determined. We analyze the effective potential for the circular motion of photons in the spacetime of the novel rotating BH. Also, we analyze the photon sphere around the novel BH and its shadow using celestial coordinates. We obtain that an increase of the BH spin and charge as well as NED field nonlinearity parameters causes an increase in the distortion parameter of the BH shadow, while, the area of the shadow and its oblateness decrease. Moreover, we also obtain the constraint values for the BH charge and the nonlinearity parameters using Event Horizon Telescope data from shadow sizes of supermassive BHs Sgr A* and M87*. Finally, the emission rate of BH evaporation through Hawking radiation is also studied.

Magnetized black holes: interplay between charge and rotation

Already in the cornerstone works on astrophysical black holes published as early as in 1970s, Ruffini and collaborators have revealed potential importance of an intricate interaction between the effects of strong gravitational and electromagnetic fields. Close to the event horizon of the black hole, magnetic and electric lines of force become distorted and dragged even a in purely electro-vacuum system. Moreover, as the plasma effects inevitably arise in any astrophysically realistic environment, particles of different electric charge can separate from each other, become accelerated away from the black hole or accreted onto it, and contribute to the net electric charge of the black hole. From the point of principle, the case of super-strong magnetic fields is of particular interest, as the electromagnetic field can act as a source of gravity and influence the space-time geometry. In a brief celebratory note we revisit aspects of rotation and charge within the framework of exact (asymptotically non-flat) solutions of mutually coupled Einstein-Maxwell equations that describe magnetized, rotating black holes.

Geodesic Structure of the Accelerated Stephani Universe

For the spherically symmetric Stephani cosmological model with an accelerated expansion, we investigate the main scenarios of the test particle and photon motion. We show that a comoving observer sees an appropriate picture. In the case of purely radial motion, the radial velocity decreases slightly with time due to the universe expansion. Both particles and photons spiral out of the center when the radial coordinate is constant. In the case of the motion with arbitrary initial velocity, the observable radial distance to the test particle can increase under negative observable radial velocity.

Accelerated Expansion of the Universe in the Model with Non-Uniform Pressure

We present the particular case of the Stephani solution for shear-free perfect fluid with uniform energy density and non-uniform pressure. Such models appeared as possible alternative to the consideration of the exotic forms of matter like dark energy that would cause the acceleration of the universe expansion. These models are characterised by the spatial curvature depending on time. We analyze the properties of the cosmological model obtained on the basis of exact solution of the Stephani class and adopt it to the recent observational data. The spatial geometry of the model is investigated. We show that despite possible singularities, the model can describe the current stage of the universe evolution.

Profiled spectral lines of Keplerian rings orbiting in the regular Bardeen black hole spacetimes

Considering the regular Bardeen black hole spacetimes, we test the observational effects of the general relativistic solutions coupled to non-linear electrodynamics (NED) by studying the photon motion in the effective geometry governed by the spacetime geometry and the NED Lagrangian. We focus our attention to the observationally important case of profiled spectral lines generated by rings radiating in a fixed frequency and orbiting the black hole along circular geodesics of the Bardeen spacetime. Such profiled spectral lines are observed in active galactic nuclei and in microquasars, giving sufficient data for the test of regular black holes. We expect that such radiating rings could arise around the Galaxy central supermassive black hole SgrA*, and the related profiled spectral lines could give important additional information to those obtained by direct observations due to the Event Horizon (GRAVITY) Telescope. We demonstrate that the profiled spectral lines of the radiating rings predict strong signatures of the NED effects on the photon motion -- namely the frequency shift to the red edge of the spectrum, and narrowing of the profile, by more than one order in comparison with the case of the profiles generated purely by the spacetime geometry, for all values of the magnetic charge and the inclination angle of the observer. The specific flux is substantially suppressed and for extended Keplerian disks even the shape of the profiled line is significantly modified due to the NED effect.

Relativistic and Newtonian fluid tori with electric charge

We discuss the effects of electric charging on the equilibrium configurations of magnetized, rotating fluid tori around black holes of different mass. In the context of gaseous/dusty tori in galactic nuclei, the central black hole dominates the gravitational field and it remains electrically neutral, while the surrounding material acquires some electric charge and exhibits non-negligible self-gravitational effect on the torus structure. The structure of the torus is influenced by the balance between the gravitational and electromagnetic forces. A cusp may develop even in Newtonian tori due to the charge distribution.

Accretion in Strong Field Gravity with eXTP

In this paper we describe the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to accretion flows in the strong field gravity regime around both stellar-mass and supermassive black-holes. eXTP has the unique capability of using advanced 'spectral-timing-polarimetry' techniques to analyze the rapid variations with three orthogonal diagnostics of the flow and its geometry, yielding unprecedented insight into the inner accreting regions, the effects of strong field gravity on the material within them and the powerful outflows which are driven by the accretion process.

Exact solution for a black hole embedded in a nonstatic dust-filled universe

An exact solution of the Lemaître--Tolman--Bondi class is investigated as a possible model of the Schwarzschild-like black hole embedded in a non-static dust-filled universe for the three types of spatial curvature. The solution is obtained in comoving coordinates by means of the mass function method. It is shown that the central part of space contains a Schwarzschild-like black hole. The R-T-structure of the resulting spacetime is built. It is shown that the solution includes both the Schwarzschild and Friedmann solutions as its natural limits. The geodesic equations for test particles are analyzed. The particle observable velocities are found. The trajectories of the test particles are built from the point of view of both comoving and distant observers. For the distant observer, the results coincide with the Schwarzschild picture within a second-order accuracy near the symmetry center.

Photon motion in Kerr-de Sitter spacetimes

We study general non-equatorial motion of photons in the Kerr-de Sitter black hole and naked singularity spacetimes. The motion is governed by the impact parameter $X$ related to axial symmetry of the spacetime, and impact parameter $q$ related to its hidden symmetry. Appropriate 'effective potentials' governing the latitudinal and radial motion are introduced and their behaviour is examined by 'Chinese boxes' technique giving regions allowed for the motion in terms of the impact parameters. Limits on the impact parameter $X$ and $q$ are established in dependence on the spacetime parameters $M, Λ, a$. The motion can be of orbital type (crossing the equatorial plane, $q>0$) and vortical type (tied above or bellow the equatorial plane, $q<0$). It is shown that for negative values of $q$ the reality conditions imposed on the latitudinal motion yield stronger constraints on the parameter $X$ than that following from the reality condition of motion in the radial direction, which, e. g., exclude possibility of existence of vortical motion of constant radius. Several other consequences are determined and a classification of Kerr-de Sitter spacetimes reflecting the behaviour of the effective potentials is given.

The model of the black hole enclosed in dust. The flat space case

In this work the model is constructed to describe the black hole enclosed in the dust cosmological background in case of zero spatial curvature. This model is based on our exact solution of the class of LTB inhomogeneous solutions. We considered the properties of the model and built the R-T-structure of the resulting space-time. It was shown that central region includes the Schwarzchild-like black hole. We derived the equations of motion of the test particle from the point of view of the observer comoving with cosmological expansion. We found analytical expressions for observable orbital and radial velocities of the particle and plotted the surface profile of the total velocity in this case. In comoving coordinate frame it is impossible to study the questions concerning the black hole horizon but one can observe the local motion of the particles influenced by the cosmological expansion.

Silhouette and spectral line profiles in the special modification of the Kerr black hole geometry generated by quintessential fields

We study optical effects in quintessential Kerr black hole spacetimes corresponding to the limiting case of the equation-of-state parameter $ω_{q}=-1/3$ of the quintessence. In dependence on the dimensionless quintessential field parameter $c$, we determine the black hole silhouette and the spectral line profiles of Keplerian disks generated in this special quintessential Kerr geometry, representing an extension of the general modifications of the Kerr geometry introduced recently by Ghasemi-Nodehi and Bambi \cite{Gha-Bam:2016:EPJC:}. We demonstrate that due to the influence of the parameter $c$, the silhouette is almost homogeneously enlarged, and the spectral line profiles are redshifted with almost conserved shape.

Profiled spectral lines generated by Keplerian discs orbiting in the Bardeen and Ayon-Beato-Garcia spacetimes

Shape and frequency-shift map of direct and indirect images of Keplerian discs orbiting in Bardeen and Ayon-Beato-Garcia (ABG) black hole and no-horizon spacetimes are determined. Then profiles of spectral lines generated in the innermost parts of the Keplerian discs in the Bardeen and ABG spacetimes are constructed. The frequency-shift maps and profiled spectral lines are compared to those generated in the field of Schwarzschild black holes and possible observationally relevant signatures of the regular black hole and no-horizon spacetimes are discussed. We demonstrate that differences relative to the Schwarzschild spacetimes are for the no-horizon spacetimes much more profound in comparison to the regular black hole spacetimes and increase with increasing charge parameter of the spacetime. The differences are stronger for small and large inclination angles than for mediate ones. For the no-horizon spacetimes, the differences enable to distinguish the Bardeen and ABG spacetime, if inclination angle to the distant observer is known. We also show that contribution of the so called ghost images to the profiled lines increases with increasing charge parameter of the spacetimes.

Gravitational lensing and ghost images in the regular Bardeen no-horizon spacetimes

We study deflection of light rays and gravitational lensing in the regular Bardeen no-horizon spacetimes. Flatness of these spacetimes in the central region implies existence of interesting optical effects related to photons crossing the gravitational field of the no-horizon spacetimes with low impact parameters. These effects occur due to existence of a critical impact parameter giving maximal deflection of light rays in the Bardeen no-horizon spacetimes. We give the critical impact parameter in dependence on the specific charge of the spacetimes, and discuss "ghost" direct images of Keplerian discs, generated by photons with low impact parameters. The ghost images can occur only for large inclination angles of distant observers. We determine the range of the frequency shift of photons genering the ghost images and determine distribution of the frequency shift accross these images. We compare them to those of the standard direct images of the Keplerian discs. The difference of the ranges of the frequency shift on the ghost and direct images could serve as a quantitative measure of the Bardeen no-horizon spacetimes. The regions of the Keplerian discs giving the ghost images are determined in dependence on the specific charge of the no-horizon spacetimes. We can conclude that the optical effects related to the low impact parameter photons give clear signatures of the regular Bardeen no-horizon spacetimes, as no similar phenomena could occur in the black hole or naked singularity spacetimes. Similar phenomena have to occur in any regular no-horizon spacetimes having nearly flat central region.

Equations of state in the Hartle-Thorne model of neutron stars selecting acceptable variants of the resonant switch model of twin HF QPOs in the atoll source 4U 1636-53

The Resonant Switch (RS) model of twin high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (HF QPOs) observed in neutron star binary systems, based on switch of the twin oscillations at a resonant point, has been applied to the atoll source 4U 1636-53 under assumption that the neutron star exterior can be approximated by the Kerr geometry. Strong restrictions of the neutron star parameters M (mass) and a (spin) arise due to fitting the frequency pairs admitted by the RS model to the observed data in the regions related to the resonant points. The most precise variants of the RS model are those combining the relativistic precession frequency relations with their modifications. Here, the neutron star mass and spin estimates given by the RS model are confronted with a variety of equations of state (EoS) governing structure of neutron stars in the framework of the Hartle-Thorne theory of rotating neutron stars applied for the observationally given rotation frequency f_rot~580 Hz (or alternatively f_rot~290 Hz) of the neutron star at 4U 1636-53. It is shown that only two variants of the RS model based on the Kerr approximation are compatible with two EoS applied in the Hartle-Thorne theory for f_rot~580 Hz, while no variant of the RS model is compatible for f_rot~290 Hz. The two compatible variants of the RS model are those giving the best fits of the observational data. However, a self-consistency test by fitting the observational data to the RS model with oscillation frequencies governed by the Hartle-Thorne geometry described by three spacetime parameters M, a and (quadrupole moment) q related by the two available EoS puts strong restrictions. The test admits only one variant of the RS model of twin HF QPOs for the Hartle-Thorne theory with the Gandolfi et al. (2010) EoS predicting the parameters of the neutron star $M \sim 2.10 \mathrm{M}_{\odot}$, $a \sim 0.208$, and $q/a^2 \sim 1.77$.

Circular geodesics of Bardeen and Ayon-Beato-Garcia regular black-hole and no-horizon spacetimes

We study circular geodesic motion of test particles and photons in the Bardeen and Ayon-Beato-Garcia (ABG) geometry describing spherically symmetric regular black-hole or no-horizon spacetimes. While the Bardeen geometry is not exact solution of Einstein's equations, the ABG spacetime is related to self-gravitating charged sources governed by Einstein's gravity and non-linear electrodynamics. They both are characterized by the mass parameter $m$ and the charge parameter $g$. We demonstrate that in similarity to the Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) naked singularity spacetimes an antigravity static sphere should exist in all the no-horizon Bardeen and ABG solutions that can be sorrounded by a Keplerian accretion disc. However, contrary to the RN naked singularity spacetimes, the ABG no-horizon spacetimes with parameter $g/m > 2$ can contain also an additional inner Keplerian disc hidden under the static antigravity sphere. Properties of the geodesic structure are reflected by simple observationally relevant optical phenomena. We give silhouette of the regular black hole and no-horizon spacetimes, and profiled spectral lines generated by Keplerian rings radiating at a fixed frequency and located in strong gravity region at or nearby the marginally stable circular geodesics. We demonstrate that the profiled spectral lines related to the regular black holes are qualitatively similar to those of the Schwarzschild black holes, giving only small quantitative differences. On the other hand, the regular no-horizon spacetimes give clear qualitative signatures of their presence while compared to the Schwarschild spacetimes. Moreover, it is possible to distinguish the Bardeen and ABG no-horizon spacetimes, if the inclination angle to the observer is known.

Super-spinning compact objects and models of high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations observed in Galactic microquasars

We have previously applied several models of high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (HF QPOs) to estimate the spin of the central Kerr black hole in the three Galactic microquasars, GRS 1915+105, GRO J1655-40, and XTE J1550-564. Here we explore the alternative possibility that the central compact body is a super-spinning object (or a naked singularity) with the external space-time described by Kerr geometry with a dimensionless spin parameter a = cJ/GM2 > 1.We calculate the relevant spin intervals for a subset of HF QPO models considered in the previous study. Our analysis indicates that for all but one of the considered models there exists at least one interval of a > 1 that is compatible with constraints given by the ranges of the central compact object mass independently estimated for the three sources. For most of the models, the inferred values of a are several times higher than the extreme Kerr black hole value a = 1. These values may be too high since the spin of superspinars is often assumed to rapidly decrease due to accretion when a >> 1. In this context, we conclude that only the epicyclic and the Keplerian resonance model provides estimates that are compatible with the expectation of just a small deviation from a = 1.

Mass-angular-momentum relations implied by models of twin peak quasi-periodic oscillations

Twin peak quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) appear in the X-ray power-density spectra of several accreting low-mass neutron star (NS) binaries. Observations of the peculiar Z-source Circinus X-1 display unusually low QPO frequencies. Using these observations, we have previously considered the relativistic precession (RP) twin peak QPO model to estimate the mass of central NS in Circinus X-1. We have shown that such an estimate results in a specific mass-angular-momentum (M-j) relation rather than a single preferred combination of M and j. Here we confront our previous results with another binary, the atoll source 4U 1636-53 that displays the twin peak QPOs at very high frequencies, and extend the consideration to various twin peak QPO models. In analogy to the RP model, we find that these imply their own specific M-j relations. We explore these relations for both sources and note differences in the chi-square behavior that represent a dichotomy between high- and low-frequency sources. Based on the RP model, we demonstrate that this dichotomy is related to a strong variability of the model predictive power across the frequency plane. This variability naturally comes from the radial dependence of characteristic frequencies of orbital motion. As a consequence, the restrictions on the models resulting from observations of low-frequency sources are weaker than those in the case of high-frequency sources. Finally we also discuss the need for a correction to the RP model and consider the removing of M-j degeneracies, based on the twin peak QPO-independent angular momentum estimates.

Rotating Regular Black Hole Solution

Based on the Newman-Janis algorithm the Ayon-Beato-Garcia spacetime metric of the regular spherically symmetric, static and charged black hole has been converted into rotational form. It is shown that the derived solution for rotating regular black hole is regular and the critical value of the electric charge $Q$ for which two horizons merge into one sufficiently decreases in the presence of nonvanishing angular momentum $a$ of the black hole.
