Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Observed from Mars by China's Tianwen-1 Spacecraft

China's Tianwen-1 Mars orbiter successfully imaged the third interstellar object, 3I/ATLAS, during its close encounter with Mars using the onboard HiRIC CMOS camera. This is China's first deep-space observation of an astronomical object. These observations constitute the first imaging of this object from a vantage point significantly out of its orbital plane, providing a unique constraint on dust dynamics. Three observing epochs between 2025 September 30 and October 3 reveal clear changes in coma and tail morphology driven by the rapidly evolving viewing geometry. Comparison with Finson-Probstein dust dynamical models indicates that the coma is dominated by large grains with solar radiation pressure parameter $β\approx 10^{-3} $ - $10^{-2}$, corresponding to grain sizes of a few 100s $μ$m. The extent of the sunward coma implies dust ejection velocities of $3$ - $10$ m s$^{-1}$. Despite the morphological evolution, the azimuthally averaged surface brightness profile remains nearly unchanged through the three epochs, transitioning from a radial slope near -1 close to the nucleus to slightly steeper than -1.5 at larger cometocentric distances, consistent with steady-state dust outflow accelerated by solar radiation pressure. Photometry yields an average $Afρ\sim (2.0\pm0.2)\times10^4$ cm and a corresponding dust mass loss rate of $\dot{M} \sim 10^3$ kg s$^{-1}$.

Lightweight Vision Transformer with Window and Spatial Attention for Food Image Classification

With the rapid development of society and continuous advances in science and technology, the food industry increasingly demands higher production quality and efficiency. Food image classification plays a vital role in enabling automated quality control on production lines, supporting food safety supervision, and promoting intelligent agricultural production. However, this task faces challenges due to the large number of parameters and high computational complexity of Vision Transformer models. To address these issues, we propose a lightweight food image classification algorithm that integrates a Window Multi-Head Attention Mechanism (WMHAM) and a Spatial Attention Mechanism (SAM). The WMHAM reduces computational cost by capturing local and global contextual features through efficient window partitioning, while the SAM adaptively emphasizes key spatial regions to improve discriminative feature representation. Experiments conducted on the Food-101 and Vireo Food-172 datasets demonstrate that our model achieves accuracies of 95.24% and 94.33%, respectively, while significantly reducing parameters and FLOPs compared with baseline methods. These results confirm that the proposed approach achieves an effective balance between computational efficiency and classification performance, making it well-suited for deployment in resource-constrained environments.

Swin-TUNA : A Novel PEFT Approach for Accurate Food Image Segmentation

In the field of food image processing, efficient semantic segmentation techniques are crucial for industrial applications. However, existing large-scale Transformer-based models (such as FoodSAM) face challenges in meeting practical deploymentrequirements due to their massive parameter counts and high computational resource demands. This paper introduces TUNable Adapter module (Swin-TUNA), a Parameter Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) method that integrates multiscale trainable adapters into the Swin Transformer architecture, achieving high-performance food image segmentation by updating only 4% of the parameters. The core innovation of Swin-TUNA lies in its hierarchical feature adaptation mechanism: it designs separable convolutions in depth and dimensional mappings of varying scales to address the differences in features between shallow and deep networks, combined with a dynamic balancing strategy for tasks-agnostic and task-specific features. Experiments demonstrate that this method achieves mIoU of 50.56% and 74.94% on the FoodSeg103 and UECFoodPix Complete datasets, respectively, surpassing the fully parameterized FoodSAM model while reducing the parameter count by 98.7% (to only 8.13M). Furthermore, Swin-TUNA exhibits faster convergence and stronger generalization capabilities in low-data scenarios, providing an efficient solution for assembling lightweight food image.

Feature-Enhanced TResNet for Fine-Grained Food Image Classification

Food is not only essential to human health but also serves as a medium for cultural identity and emotional connection. In the context of precision nutrition, accurately identifying and classifying food images is critical for dietary monitoring, nutrient estimation, and personalized health management. However, fine-grained food classification remains challenging due to the subtle visual differences among similar dishes. To address this, we propose Feature-Enhanced TResNet (FE-TResNet), a novel deep learning model designed to improve the accuracy of food image recognition in fine-grained scenarios. Built on the TResNet architecture, FE-TResNet integrates a Style-based Recalibration Module (StyleRM) and Deep Channel-wise Attention (DCA) to enhance feature extraction and emphasize subtle distinctions between food items. Evaluated on two benchmark Chinese food datasets-ChineseFoodNet and CNFOOD-241-FE-TResNet achieved high classification accuracies of 81.37% and 80.29%, respectively. These results demonstrate its effectiveness and highlight its potential as a key enabler for intelligent dietary assessment and personalized recommendations in precision nutrition systems.

CL-Polyp: A Contrastive Learning-Enhanced Network for Accurate Polyp Segmentation

Accurate segmentation of polyps from colonoscopy images is crucial for the early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. Most existing deep learning-based polyp segmentation methods adopt an Encoder-Decoder architecture, and some utilize multi-task frameworks that incorporate auxiliary tasks like classification to improve segmentation. However, these methods often need more labeled data and depend on task similarity, potentially limiting generalizability. To address these challenges, we propose CL-Polyp, a contrastive learning-enhanced polyp segmentation network. Our method uses contrastive learning to enhance the encoder's extraction of discriminative features by contrasting positive and negative sample pairs from polyp images. This self-supervised strategy improves visual representation without needing additional annotations. We also introduce two efficient, lightweight modules: the Modified Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (MASPP) module for improved multi-scale feature fusion, and the Channel Concatenate and Element Add (CA) module to merge low-level and upsampled features for {enhanced} boundary reconstruction. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets-Kvasir-SEG, CVC-ClinicDB, CVC-ColonDB, CVC-300, and ETIS-show that CL-Polyp consistently surpasses state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, it enhances the IoU metric by 0.011 and 0.020 on the Kvasir-SEG and CVC-ClinicDB datasets, respectively, demonstrating its effectiveness in clinical polyp segmentation.

MAC Revivo: Artificial Intelligence Paves the Way

The vast adoption of Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth capabilities in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, along with the rapid growth of deployed smart devices, has caused significant interference and congestion in the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) bands. Traditional Wi-Fi Medium Access Control (MAC) design faces significant challenges in managing increasingly complex wireless environments while ensuring network Quality of Service (QoS) performance. This paper explores the potential integration of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods into the design of Wi-Fi MAC protocols. We propose AI-MAC, an innovative approach that employs machine learning algorithms to dynamically adapt to changing network conditions, optimize channel access, mitigate interference, and ensure deterministic latency. By intelligently predicting and managing interference, AI-MAC aims to provide a robust solution for next generation of Wi-Fi networks, enabling seamless connectivity and enhanced QoS. Our experimental results demonstrate that AI-MAC significantly reduces both interference and latency, paving the way for more reliable and efficient wireless communications in the increasingly crowded ISM band.

Multi-Label Takagi-Sugeno-Kang Fuzzy System

Multi-label classification can effectively identify the relevant labels of an instance from a given set of labels. However, the modeling of the relationship between the features and the labels is critical to the classification performance. To this end, we propose a new multi-label classification method, called Multi-Label Takagi-Sugeno-Kang Fuzzy System (ML-TSK FS), to improve the classification performance. The structure of ML-TSK FS is designed using fuzzy rules to model the relationship between features and labels. The fuzzy system is trained by integrating fuzzy inference based multi-label correlation learning with multi-label regression loss. The proposed ML-TSK FS is evaluated experimentally on 12 benchmark multi-label datasets. 1 The results show that the performance of ML-TSK FS is competitive with existing methods in terms of various evaluation metrics, indicating that it is able to model the feature-label relationship effectively using fuzzy inference rules and enhances the classification performance.

Domain Wall Enabled Steep Slope Switching in MoS$_2$ Transistors Towards Hysteresis-Free Operation

The device concept of ferroelectric-based negative capacitance (NC) transistors offers a promising route for achieving energy-efficient logic applications that can outperform the conventional semiconductor technology, while viable operation mechanisms remain a central topic of debate. In this work, we report steep slope switching in MoS$_2$ transistors back-gated by single-layer polycrystalline PbZr$_{0.35}$Ti$_{0.65}$O$_3$. The devices exhibit current on/off ratios up to 8$\times$10$^6$ within an ultra-low gate voltage window of $V_g$ = $\pm$0.5 V and subthreshold swing (SS) as low as 9.7 mV decade$^{-1}$ at room temperature, transcending the 60 mV decade$^{-1}$ Boltzmann limit without involving additional dielectric layers. Theoretical modeling reveals the dominant role of the metastable polar states within domain walls in enabling the NC mode, which is corroborated by the relation between SS and domain wall density. Our findings shed light on a hysteresis-free mechanism for NC operation, providing a simple yet effective material strategy for developing low-power 2D nanoelectronics.

Remote Surface Optical Phonon Scattering in Ferroelectric Ba$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$TiO$_{3}$ Gated Graphene

We report the effect of remote surface optical (RSO) phonon scattering on carrier mobility in monolayer graphene gated by ferroelectric oxide. We fabricate monolayer graphene transistors back-gated by epitaxial (001) Ba$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$TiO$_{3}$ films, with field effect mobility up to 23,000 cm$^{2}$V$^{-1}$s$^{-1}$ achieved. Switching the ferroelectric polarization induces nonvolatile modulation of resistance and quantum Hall effect in graphene at low temperatures. Ellipsometry spectroscopy studies reveal four pairs of optical phonon modes in Ba$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$TiO$_{3}$, from which we extract the RSO phonon frequencies. The temperature dependence of resistivity in graphene can be well accounted for by considering the scattering from the intrinsic longitudinal acoustic phonon and the RSO phonon, with the latter dominated by the mode at 35.8 meV. Our study reveals the room temperature mobility limit of ferroelectric-gated graphene transistors imposed by RSO phonon scattering.

Giant Transport Anisotropy in ReS$_2$ Revealed via Nanoscale Conducting Path Control

The low in-plane symmetry in layered 1T'-ReS$_2$ results in strong band anisotropy, while its manifestation in the electronic properties is challenging to resolve due to the lack of effective approaches for controlling the local current path. In this work, we reveal the giant transport anisotropy in monolayer to four-layer ReS$_2$ by creating directional conducting paths via nanoscale ferroelectric control. By reversing the polarization of a ferroelectric polymer top layer, we induce conductivity switching ratio of >1.5x10$^8$ in the ReS$_2$ channel at 300 K. Characterizing the domain-defined conducting nanowires in an insulating background shows that the conductivity ratio between the directions along and perpendicular to the Re-chain can exceed 5.5x10$^4$. Theoretical modeling points to the band origin of the transport anomaly, and further reveals the emergence of a flat band in few-layer ReS$_2$. Our work paves the path for implementing the highly anisotropic 2D materials for designing novel collective phenomena and electron lensing applications.

Automatic Head Overcoat Thickness Measure with NASNet-Large-Decoder Net

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is one of the primary tools to show microstructural characterization of materials as well as film thickness. However, manual determination of film thickness from TEM images is time-consuming as well as subjective, especially when the films in question are very thin and the need for measurement precision is very high. Such is the case for head overcoat (HOC) thickness measurements in the magnetic hard disk drive industry. It is therefore necessary to develop software to automatically measure HOC thickness. In this paper, for the first time, we propose a HOC layer segmentation method using NASNet-Large as an encoder and then followed by a decoder architecture, which is one of the most commonly used architectures in deep learning for image segmentation. To further improve segmentation results, we are the first to propose a post-processing layer to remove irrelevant portions in the segmentation result. To measure the thickness of the segmented HOC layer, we propose a regressive convolutional neural network (RCNN) model as well as orthogonal thickness calculation methods. Experimental results demonstrate a higher dice score for our model which has lower mean squared error and outperforms current state-of-the-art manual measurement.

Polar Coupling Enabled Nonlinear Optical Filtering at MoS$_2$/Ferroelectric Heterointerfaces

Complex oxide heterointerfaces and van der Waals heterostructures present two versatile but intrinsically different platforms for exploring emergent quantum phenomena and designing new functionalities. The rich opportunity offered by the synergy between these two classes of materials, however, is yet to be charted. Here, we report an unconventional nonlinear optical filtering effect resulting from the interfacial polar alignment between monolayer MoS$_2$ and a neighboring ferroelectric oxide thin film. The second harmonic generation response at the heterointerface is either substantially enhanced or almost entirely quenched by an underlying ferroelectric domain wall depending on its chirality, and can be further tailored by the polar domains. Unlike the extensively studied coupling mechanisms driven by charge, spin, and lattice, the interfacial tailoring effect is solely mediated by the polar symmetry, as well explained via our density functional theory calculations, pointing to a new material strategy for the functional design of nanoscale reconfigurable optical applications.

Mask Editor : an Image Annotation Tool for Image Segmentation Tasks

Deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) is the state-of-the-art method for image segmentation, which is one of key challenging computer vision tasks. However, DCNN requires a lot of training images with corresponding image masks to get a good segmentation result. Image annotation software which is easy to use and allows fast image mask generation is in great demand. To the best of our knowledge, all existing image annotation software support only drawing bounding polygons, bounding boxes, or bounding ellipses to mark target objects. These existing software are inefficient when targeting objects that have irregular shapes (e.g., defects in fabric images or tire images). In this paper we design an easy-to-use image annotation software called Mask Editor for image mask generation. Mask Editor allows drawing any bounding curve to mark objects and improves efficiency to mark objects with irregular shapes. Mask Editor also supports drawing bounding polygons, drawing bounding boxes, drawing bounding ellipses, painting, erasing, super-pixel-marking, image cropping, multi-class masks, mask loading, and mask modifying.

Ferroelectric Domain Patterning Controlled Schottky Junction State in Monolayer MoS$_2$

We exploit scanning probe controlled domain patterning in a ferroelectric top layer to induce nonvolatile modulation of the conduction characteristic of monolayer MoS$_2$ between a transistor and a junction state. In the presence of a domain wall, MoS$_2$ exhibits rectified I-V that is well described by the thermionic emission model. The induced Schottky barrier height varies from 0.38 eV to 0.57 eV and is tunabe by a SiO$_2$ global back-gate, while the tuning range of depends sensitively on the conduction band tail trapping states. Our work points to a new route to achieving programmable functionalities in van der Waals materials and sheds light on the critical performance limiting factors in these hybrid systems.

Ferroelectric metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors using ultrathin single crystalline SrZrxTi1-xO3

The epitaxial growth of multifunctional oxides on semiconductors has opened a pathway to introduce new functionalities to semiconductor device technologies. In particular, ferroelectric materials integrated on semiconductors could lead to low-power field-effect devices that can be used for logic and memory. Essential to realizing such field-effect devices is the development of ferroelectric metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) capacitors, in which the polarization of a ferroelectric gate is coupled to the surface potential of a semiconducting channel. Here we demonstrate that ferroelectric MOS capacitors can be realized using single crystalline SrZrxTi1-xO3 (x = 0.7) that has been epitaxially grown on Ge. We find that the ferroelectric properties of SrZrxTi1-xO3 are exceptionally robust, as gate layers as thin as 5 nm corresponding to an equivalent-oxide-thickness of just 1.0 nm exhibit a ~ 2 V hysteretic window in the capacitance-voltage characteristics. The development of ferroelectric MOS capacitors with nanoscale gate thicknesses opens new vistas for nanoelectronic devices.

Enhanced Piezoelectric Response in Hybrid Lead Halide Perovskite Thin Films via Interfacing with Ferroelectric PbZr$_{0.2}$Ti$_{0.8}$O$_3$

We report a more than 10-fold enhancement of the piezoelectric coefficient $d_{33}$ of polycrystalline CH$_3$NH$_3$PbI$_3$ (MAPbI$_3$) films when interfacing them with ferroelectric PbZr$_{0.2}$Ti$_{0.8}$O$_3$ (PZT). Piezo-response force microscopy (PFM) studies reveal $d_{33}^{MAPbI_3}$ values of ~0.3 pm/V for MAPbI$_3$ deposited on Au and ITO surfaces, with small phase angles fluctuating at length scales smaller than the grain size. In sharp contrast, on samples prepared on epitaxial PZT films, we observe large scale polar domains exhibiting clear, close to 90° PFM phase angles, pointing to polar axes along the film normal. By separating the contributions from the MAPbI$_3$ and PZT layers, we extract a significantly enhanced $d_{33}^{MAPbI_3}$ value of ~4 pm/V, which is attributed to the long-range dipole-dipole interaction facilitated domain nucleation. We also discuss the effect of the interfacial screening layer on the preferred polar direction.

The inner solar system cratering record and the evolution of impactor populations

We review previously published and newly obtained crater size-frequency distributions in the inner solar system. These data indicate that the Moon and the terrestrial planets have been bombarded by two populations of objects. Population 1, dominating at early times, had nearly the same size distribution as the present-day asteroid belt, and produced the heavily cratered surfaces with a complex, multi-sloped crater size-frequency distribution. Population 2, dominating since about 3.8-3.7 Ga, has the same size distribution as near-Earth objects (NEOs), had a much lower impact flux, and produced a crater size distribution characterized by a differential -3 single-slope power law in the crater diameter range 0.02 km to 100 km. Taken together with the results from a large body of work on age-dating of lunar and meteorite samples and theoretical work in solar system dynamics, a plausible interpretation of these data is as follows. The NEO population is the source of Population 2 and it has been in near-steady state over the past ~3.7-3.8 gigayears; these objects are derived from the main asteroid belt by size-dependent non-gravitational effects that favor the ejection of smaller asteroids. However, Population 1 were main belt asteroids ejected from their source region in a size-independent manner, possibly by means of gravitational resonance sweeping during giant planet orbit migration; this caused the so-called Late Heavy Bombardment (LHB). The LHB began some time before ~3.9 Ga, peaked and declined rapidly over the next ~100 to 300 megayears, and possibly more slowly from about 3.8-3.7 Ga to ~2 Ga. A third crater population (Population S) consists of secondary impact craters that can dominate the cratering record at small diameters.
