Isomerism in the "south-east" of $^{132}$Sn and a predicted neutron-decaying isomer in $^{129}$Pd

Excited states in neutron-rich nuclei located south-east of $^{132}$Sn are investigated by shell-model calculations. A new shell-model Hamiltonian is constructed for the present study. The proton-proton and neutron-neutron interactions of the Hamiltonian are obtained through the existing CD-Bonn $G$ matrix results, while the proton-neutron interaction across two major shells is derived from the monopole based universal interaction plus the M3Y spin-orbit force. The present Hamiltonian can reproduce well the experimental data available in this region, including one-neutron separation energies, level energies and the experimental $B(E2)$ values of isomers in $^{134,136,138}$Sn, $^{130}$Cd, and $^{128}$Pd. New isomers are predicted in this region, $e.g.$ in $^{135}$Sn, $^{131}$Cd, $^{129}$Pd, $^{132,134}$In and $^{130}$Ag, in which almost no excited states are known experimentally yet. In the odd-odd $^{132,134}$In and $^{130}$Ag, the predicted very long $E2$ life-times of the low-lying $5^{-}$ states are discussed, demanding more information on the related proton-neutron interaction. The low-lying states of $^{132}$In are discussed in connection with the recently observed $γ$ rays. The predicted $19/2^{-}$ isomer in $^{129}$Pd could decay by both electromagnetic transitions and neutron emission with comparable partial life-times, making it a good candidate for neutron radioactivity, a decay mode which is yet to be discovered.

Fine Magnetic Structure and Origin of Counter-Streaming Mass Flows in a Quiescent Solar Prominence

We present high-resolution observations of a quiescent solar prominence which was consisted of a vertical and a horizontal foot encircled by an overlying spine, and counter-streaming mass flows were ubiquitous in the prominence. While the horizontal foot and the spine were connecting to the solar surface, the vertical foot was suspended above the solar surface and supported by a semicircular bubble structure. The bubble first collapsed and then reformed at a similar height, finally, it started to oscillate for a long time. We find that the collapsing and oscillation of the bubble boundary were tightly associated with a flare-like feature located at the bottom of the bubble. Based on the observational results, we propose that the prominence should be composed of an overlying horizontal spine encircling a low-lying horizontal and a vertical foot, in which the horizontal foot was consisted of shorter field lines running partially along the spine and with the both ends connecting to the solar surface, while the vertical foot was consisted of piling-up dips due to the sagging of the spine fields and supported by a bipolar magnetic system formed by parasitic polarities (i.e., the bubble). The upflows in the vertical foot were possibly caused by the magnetic reconnection at the separator between the bubble and the overlying dips, which intruded into the persistent downflow field and formed the picture of counter-streaming mass flows. In addition, the counter-streaming flows in the horizontal foot were possibly caused by the imbalanced pressure at the both ends.

A new method of energy calibration of position-sensitive silicon detector

An improved method of energy calibration of position-sensitive silicon detector is presented. Instead of the parabolic function used in traditional method, a new function describing the relation of position and energy is introduced and achieves better energy resolution. For the 8.088 MeV alpha decay of 213Rn calibrated by this new method, the energy resolution is determined to be about 87 keV (FWHM), which is better than the result of the traditional method, 104 keV (FWHM). In addition, different functions can be tried in the new method, which makes the calibration of various detectors with different performances possible.

Segment-Sliding Reconstruction of Pulsed Radar Echoes with Sub-Nyquist Sampling

It has been shown that analog-to-information con- version (AIC) is an efficient scheme to perform sub-Nyquist sampling of pulsed radar echoes. However, it is often impractical, if not infeasible, to reconstruct full-range Nyquist samples because of huge storage and computational load requirements. Based on the analyses of AIC measurement system, this paper develops a novel segment-sliding reconstruction (SegSR) scheme to effectively reconstruct the Nyquist samples. The SegSR per- forms segment-by-segment reconstruction in a sliding mode and can be implemented in real-time. An important characteristic that distinguish the proposed SegSR from the existing methods is that the measurement matrix in each segment satisfies the restricted isometry property (RIP) condition. Partial support in the previous segment can be incorporated into the estimation of the Nyquist samples in the current segment. The effect of interference intro- duced from adjacent segments is theoretically analyzed, and it is revealed that the interference consists of two interference levels having different impacts to the signal reconstruction performance. With these observations, a two-step orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) procedure is proposed for segment reconstruction, which takes into account different interference levels and partially known support of the previous segment. The proposed SegSR achieves nearly optimal reconstruction performance with a signi- ficant reduction of computational loads and storage requirements. Theoretical analyses and simulations verify its effectiveness.

Gridless Quadrature Compressive Sampling with Interpolated Array Technique

Quadrature compressive sampling (QuadCS) is a sub-Nyquist sampling scheme for acquiring in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) components in radar. In this scheme, the received intermediate frequency (IF) signals are expressed as a linear combination of time-delayed and scaled replicas of the transmitted waveforms. For sparse IF signals on discrete grids of time-delay space, the QuadCS can efficiently reconstruct the I/Q components from sub-Nyquist samples. In practice, the signals are characterized by a set of unknown time-delay parameters in a continuous space. Then conventional sparse signal reconstruction will deteriorate the QuadCS reconstruction performance. This paper focuses on the reconstruction of the I/Q components with continuous delay parameters. A parametric spectrum-matched dictionary is defined, which sparsely describes the IF signals in the frequency domain by delay parameters and gain coefficients, and the QuadCS system is reexamined under the new dictionary. With the inherent structure of the QuadCS system, it is found that the estimation of delay parameters can be decoupled from that of sparse gain coefficients, yielding a beamspace direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation formulation with a time-varying beamforming matrix. Then an interpolated beamspace DOA method is developed to perform the DOA estimation. An optimal interpolated array is established and sufficient conditions to guarantee the successful estimation of the delay parameters are derived. With the estimated delays, the gain coefficients can be conveniently determined by solving a linear least-squares problem. Extensive simulations demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithm in reconstructing the sparse signals with continuous delay parameters.

New Vacuum Solar Telescope and Observations with High Resolution

The New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST) is a 1 meter vacuum solar telescope that aims to observe the fine structures on the Sun. The main tasks of NVST are high resolution imaging and spectral observations, including the measurements of solar magnetic field. NVST is the primary ground-based facility of Chinese solar community in this solar cycle. It is located by the Fuxian Lake of southwest China, where the seeing is good enough to perform high resolution observations. In this paper, we first introduce the general conditions of Fuxian Solar Observatory and the primary science cases of NVST. Then, the basic structures of this telescope and instruments are described in detail. Finally, some typical high resolution data of solar photosphere and chromosphere are also shown.

New Vacuum Solar Telescope observations of a flux rope tracked by a filament activation

One main goal of the New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST) which is located at the \emph{Fuxian Solar Observatory} is to image the Sun at high resolution. Based on the high spatial and temporal resolution NVST H$α$ data and combined with the simultaneous observations from the \emph{Solar Dynamics Observatory} for the first time, we investigate a flux rope tracked by a filament activation. The filament material is initially located at one end of the flux rope and fills in a section of the rope, and then the filament is activated due to magnetic field cancellation. The activated filament rises and flows along helical threads, tracking out the twisted flux rope structure. The length of the flux rope is about 75 Mm, the average width of its individual threads is 1.11 Mm, and the estimated twist is 1$π$. The flux rope appears as a dark structure in H$α$ images, a partial dark and partial bright structure in 304 Å, while as bright structures in 171 Å and 131 Å images. During this process, the overlying coronal loops are quite steady since the filament is confined within the flux rope and does not erupt successfully. It seems that, for the event in this study, the filament is located and confined within the flux rope threads, instead of being suspended in the dips of twisted magnetic flux.

Pulse-Doppler Signal Processing with Quadrature Compressive Sampling

Quadrature compressive sampling (QuadCS) is a newly introduced sub-Nyquist sampling for acquiring inphase and quadrature (I/Q) components of radio-frequency signals. For applications to pulse-Doppler radars, the QuadCS outputs can be arranged in 2-dimensional data similar to that by Nyquist sampling. This paper develops a compressive sampling pulse-Doppler (CoSaPD) processing scheme from the sub-Nyquist samples. The CoSaPD scheme follows Doppler estimation/detection and range estimation and is conducted on the sub-Nyquist samples without recovering the Nyquist samples. The Doppler estimation is realized through spectrum analyzer as in classic processing. The detection is done on the Doppler bin data. The range estimation is performed through sparse recovery algorithms on the detected targets and thus the computational load is reduced. The detection threshold can be set at a low value for improving detection probability and then the introduced false targets are removed in the range estimation stage through inherent detection characteristic in the recovery algorithms. Simulation results confirm our findings. The CoSaPD scheme with the data at one eighth the Nyquist rate and for SNR above -25dB can achieve performance of the classic processing with Nyquist samples.

Quadrature Compressive Sampling for Radar Signals

Quadrature sampling has been widely applied in coherent radar systems to extract in-phase and quadrature (I and Q) components in the received radar signal. However, the sampling is inefficient because the received signal contains only a small number of significant target signals. This paper incorporates the compressive sampling (CS) theory into the design of the quadrature sampling system, and develops a quadrature compressive sampling (QuadCS) system to acquire the I and Q components with low sampling rate. The QuadCS system first randomly projects the received signal into a compressive bandpass signal and then utilizes the quadrature sampling to output compressive I and Q components. The compressive outputs are used to reconstruct the I and Q components. To understand the system performance, we establish the frequency domain representation of the QuadCS system. With the waveform-matched dictionary, we prove that the QuadCS system satisfies the restricted isometry property with overwhelming probability. For K target signals in the observation interval T, simulations show that the QuadCS requires just O(Klog(BT/K)) samples to stably reconstruct the signal, where B is the signal bandwidth. The reconstructed signal-to-noise ratio decreases by 3dB for every octave increase in the target number K and increases by 3dB for every octave increase in the compressive bandwidth. Theoretical analyses and simulations verify that the proposed QuadCS is a valid system to acquire the I and Q components in the received radar signals.

Chaotic Analog-to-Information Conversion with Chaotic State Modulation

Chaotic compressive sensing is a nonlinear framework for compressive sensing. Along the framework, this paper proposes a chaotic analog-to-information converter, chaotic modulation, to acquire and reconstruct band-limited sparse analog signals at sub-Nyquist rate. In the chaotic modulation, the sparse signal is randomized through state modulation of continuous-time chaotic system and one state output is sampled as compressive measurements. The reconstruction is achieved through the estimation of the sparse coefficients with principle of chaotic impulsive synchronization and Lp-norm regularized nonlinear least squares. The concept of supreme local Lyapunov exponents (SLLE) is introduced to study the reconstructablity. It is found that the sparse signals are reconstructable, if the largest SLLE of the error dynamical system is negative. As examples, the Lorenz system and Liu system excited by the sparse multi-tone signals are taken to illustrate the principle and the performance.

Supreme Local Lyapunov Exponents and Chaotic Impulsive Synchronization

Impulsively synchronized chaos with criterion from conditional Lyapunov exponent is often interrupted by desynchronized bursts. This is because the Lyapunov exponent cannot characterize local instability of synchronized attractor. To predict the possibility of the local instability, we introduce a concept of supreme local Lyapunov exponent (SLLE), which is defined as supremum of local Lyapunov exponents over the attractor. The SLLE is independent of the system trajectories and therefore, can characterize the extreme expansion behavior in all local regions with prescribed finite-time interval. It is shown that the impulsively synchronized chaos can be kept forever if the largest SLLE of error dynamical systems is negative and then the burst behavior will not appear. In addition, the impulsive synchronization with negative SLLE allows large synchronizable impulsive interval, which is significant for applications.

Chaotic Analog-to-Information Conversion: Principle and Reconstructability with Parameter Identifiability

This paper proposes a chaos-based analog-to-information conversion system for the acquisition and reconstruction of sparse analog signals. The sparse signal acts as an excitation term of a continuous-time chaotic system and the compressive measurements are performed by sampling chaotic system outputs. The reconstruction is realized through the estimation of the sparse coefficients with principle of chaotic parameter estimation. With the deterministic formulation, the analysis on the reconstructability is conducted via the sensitivity matrix from the parameter identifiability of chaotic systems. For the sparsity-regularized nonlinear least squares estimation, it is shown that the sparse signal is locally reconstructable if the columns of the sparsity-regularized sensitivity matrix are linearly independent. A Lorenz system excited by the sparse multitone signal is taken as an example to illustrate the principle and the performance.

A Compressed Sensing Framework of Frequency-Sparse Signals through Chaotic Systems

This paper proposes a compressed sensing (CS) framework for the acquisition and reconstruction of frequency-sparse signals with chaotic dynamical systems. The sparse signal is acting as an excitation term of a discrete-time chaotic system and the compressed measurement is obtained by downsampling the system output. The reconstruction is realized through the estimation of the excitation coefficients with principle of impulsive chaos synchronization. The -norm regularized nonlinear least squares is used to find the estimation. The proposed framework is easily implementable and creates secure measurements. The Henon map is used as an example to illustrate the principle and the performance.
