LearnPruner: Rethinking Attention-based Token Pruning in Vision Language Models

Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have recently demonstrated remarkable capabilities in visual understanding and reasoning, but they also impose significant computational burdens due to long visual sequence inputs. Recent works address this issue by pruning unimportant visual tokens, achieving substantial computational reduction while maintaining model performance. The core of token pruning lies in determining token importance, with current approaches primarily relying on attention scores from vision encoders or Large Language Models (LLMs). In this paper, we analyze the effectiveness of attention mechanisms in both vision encoders and LLMs. We find that vision encoders suffer from attention sink, leading to poor focus on informative foreground regions, while in LLMs, although prior studies have identified attention bias toward token positions, text-to-vision attention demonstrates resistance to this bias and enables effective pruning guidance in middle layers. Based on these observations, we propose LearnPruner, a two-stage token pruning framework that first removes redundant vision tokens via a learnable pruning module after the vision encoder, then retains only task-relevant tokens in the LLM's middle layer. Experimental results show that our LearnPruner can preserve approximately 95% of the original performance while using only 5.5% of vision tokens, and achieve 3.2$\times$ inference acceleration, demonstrating a superior accuracy-efficiency trade-off.

iGVLM: Dynamic Instruction-Guided Vision Encoding for Question-Aware Multimodal Understanding

Despite the success of Large Vision--Language Models (LVLMs), most existing architectures suffer from a representation bottleneck: they rely on static, instruction-agnostic vision encoders whose visual representations are utilized in an invariant manner across different textual tasks. This rigidity hinders fine-grained reasoning where task-specific visual cues are critical. To address this issue, we propose iGVLM, a general framework for instruction-guided visual modulation. iGVLM introduces a decoupled dual-branch architecture: a frozen representation branch that preserves task-agnostic visual representations learned during pre-training, and a dynamic conditioning branch that performs affine feature modulation via Adaptive Layer Normalization (AdaLN). This design enables a smooth transition from general-purpose perception to instruction-aware reasoning while maintaining the structural integrity and stability of pre-trained visual priors. Beyond standard benchmarks, we introduce MM4, a controlled diagnostic probe for quantifying logical consistency under multi-query, multi-instruction settings. Extensive results show that iGVLM consistently enhances instruction sensitivity across diverse language backbones, offering a plug-and-play paradigm for bridging passive perception and active reasoning.

ITO: Images and Texts as One via Synergizing Multiple Alignment and Training-Time Fusion

Image-text contrastive pretraining has become a dominant paradigm for visual representation learning, yet existing methods often yield representations that remain partially organized by modality. We propose ITO, a framework addressing this limitation through two synergistic mechanisms. Multimodal multiple alignment enriches supervision by mining diverse image-text correspondences, while a lightweight training-time multimodal fusion module enforces structured cross-modal interaction. Crucially, the fusion module is discarded at inference, preserving the efficiency of standard dual-encoder architectures. Extensive experiments show that ITO consistently outperforms strong baselines across classification, retrieval, and multimodal benchmarks. Our analysis reveals that while multiple alignment drives discriminative power, training-time fusion acts as a critical structural regularizer -- eliminating the modality gap and stabilizing training dynamics to prevent the early saturation often observed in aggressive contrastive learning.

Precise $^{136}$Xe Double Beta Decay Measurement in PandaX-4T with Implications on the Nuclear Matrix Elements and Majorons

The continuous spectrum of double beta decay ($\beta\beta$) provides a sensitive probe to test the predictions of the standard model and to search for signatures of new physics beyond it. We present a comprehensive analysis of the $^{136}$Xe $\beta\beta$ spectrum utilizing $39.1 \pm 0.7~\textrm{kg}\cdot\textrm{yr}$ of $^{136}$Xe exposure from the PandaX-4T experiment. The analysis yields the most precise measurement to date of the $^{136}$Xe two-neutrino double beta decay ($2\nu\beta\beta$) half-life, $(2.14 \pm 0.05) \times 10^{21}$ years, the uncertainty of which is reduced by a factor of 2 compared to our previous result. We measure the parameter $\xi_{31}^{2\nu}$, defined as the ratio between the subleading and leading components of the $^{136}$Xe $2\nu\beta\beta$ nuclear matrix element, to be $0.59^{+0.41}_{-0.38}$, which is consistent with theoretical predictions. We also search for Majoron-emitting modes of $^{136}$Xe $\beta\beta$, establishing the most stringent limit for the spectral index $n=7$.

GPS-Synchronized Monitoring of Core-collapse Supernova Bursts with PandaX-4T via Coherent Elastic Neutrino Nuclear Scattering

The landmark detection of neutrinos from SN1987A marked the dawn of neutrino astrophysics. The neutrino burst provided essential insights into fundamental properties of neutrinos, and served as key probes of stellar evolution and supernova dynamics. The recent advancement in coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering enables the detection of core-collapse supernova burst neutrinos using tonne-scale liquid xenon detectors originally designed for dark matter direct detection. Leveraging this capability, we developed and deployed an online supernova monitoring system for the PandaX-4T experiment. This system features a GPS module with millisecond-level timing precision, a low false-alarm rate, and high sensitivity to galactic core-collapse supernova explosion events. The methodology is robust, directly scalable, and planned for implementation in the next-generation PandaX-20T experiment.

Probing scalar-neutrino and scalar-dark-matter interactions with PandaX-4T

Scalar-mediated interactions may exist among neutrinos, dark matter particles, or between the two. Double $\beta$-decay experiments provide a powerful tool to probe such exotic interactions. Using $^{136}$Xe double $\beta$-decay data from PandaX-4T, we perform the first direct spectral search in the energy range of 20 to 2800~keV, setting the most stringent limits to date on scalar-mediated neutrino self-interactions for mediator masses below 2~MeV$/c^2$. These results place significant constraints on models invoking such interactions to alleviate the Hubble Tension. Assuming the same scalar also mediates dark matter self-interactions, constraints on the dark matter-scalar interactions can be placed in conjunction with cosmological constraints.

Tomographic beta-gamma spectroscopy of nuclear beta decay

Nuclear $\beta$ decay, a sensitive probe of nuclear structure and weak interactions, has become a precision test bed for physics beyond the Standard Model, driven by recent advances in spectrometric techniques. Here we introduce tomographic $\beta$-$\gamma$ spectroscopy (TBGS) of nuclear $\beta$ decay, a method that detects the energies of $\beta$, $\gamma$, and internal conversion electrons while simultaneously reconstructing the energy deposition vertices. Using the PandaX-4T detector operated as a TBGS, we obtain a precise and unbiased decay scheme of $^{214}$Pb, a key background isotope in searches for dark matter and Majorana neutrinos. For the first time, transitions of $^{214}$Pb to both the ground and excited states of $^{214}$Bi are measured concurrently, revealing discrepancies in branching ratios of up to 4.7$\sigma$ relative to previous evaluations. Combined with state-of-the-art theoretical spectral-shape calculations, these results establish a new benchmark for background modelling in rare-event searches and highlight the potential of TBGS as a versatile tool for fundamental physics and nuclear applications.

SATQuest: A Verifier for Logical Reasoning Evaluation and Reinforcement Fine-Tuning of LLMs

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit strong general reasoning, yet the community lacks controllable, scalable, and verifiable tools to analyze and improve these abilities. We present SATQuest, a verifier that generates diverse SAT-based reasoning tasks directly from Conjunctive Normal Form (CNF) instances and checks answers objectively with PySAT. SATQuest factorizes evaluation along three orthogonal dimensions: instance, problem type, and question format, enabling fine-grained, multi-dimensional analysis and reinforcement fine-tuning. Randomized CNF generation mitigates memorization and supports reproducible experiments. Using SATQuest, we benchmark a range of open- and closed-weight LLMs and uncover persistent gaps in logical reasoning, particularly on higher-complexity tasks and in transfer beyond familiar mathematical notation to machine or narrative formats. We further show that reinforcement fine-tuning with SATQuest rewards substantially boosts targeted performance and generalizes to larger instances, while cross-format robustness remains challenging. Collectively, SATQuest provides verifier-backed infrastructure for controlled, scalable, and reproducible empirical research on LLM logical reasoning and its training.

Precise Measurement of $^{216}$Po Half-life with Exact Parent-daughter Pairing in PandaX-4T

We report a precise measurement of $^{216}\rm Po$ half-life using the PandaX-4T liquid xenon time projection chamber (TPC). $^{220}\rm Rn $, emanating from a $^{228}\rm Th $ calibration source, is injected to the detector and undergoes successive $\alpha$ decays, first to $^{216}\rm Po$ and then to $^{212}\rm Pb$. PandaX-4T detector measures the 5-dimensional (5D) information of each decay, including time, energy, and 3-dimensional positions. Therefore, we can identify the $^{220}\rm Rn $ and $^{216}\rm Po$ decay events and pair them exactly to extract the lifetime of each $^{216}\rm Po$. With a large data set and high-precision $^{220}\rm $Rn-$^{216}\rm $Po pairing technique, we measure the $^{216}\rm Po$ half-life to be $143.7\pm0.5$ ms, which is the most precise result to date and agrees with previously published values. The leading precision of this measurement demonstrates the power of 5D calorimeter and the potential of exact parent-daughter pairing in the xenon TPC.

Search for Light Dark Matter with 259-day data in PandaX-4T

We present a search for light dark matter particles through their interactions with atomic electrons and nucleons, utilizing PandaX-4T data with an effective exposure of 1.04 tonne$\cdot$year for ionization-only data and 1.20 tonne$\cdot$year for paired data. Our analysis focuses on the energy range (efficiency$>$0.01) of approximately 0.33 to 3 keV for nuclear recoils, and from 0.04 to 0.39 keV for electronic recoils. We establish the most stringent constraints on spin-independent dark matter-nucleon interactions within a mass range of 2.5 to 5.0 GeV/$c^2$, spin-dependent neutron-only interactions within 2.0 to 5.3 GeV/$c^2$, and spin-dependent proton-only interactions within 2.0 to 3.8 GeV/$c^2$. Their corresponding limits at 3\,GeV/$c^2$ are $1.1 \times 10^{-43}$, $1.6 \times 10^{-38}$, and $5.6 \times 10^{-37}$\,cm$^2$, respectively. Additionally, our results improve the upper limits on the dark matter-electron scattering cross-section by a factor of 1.5 and 9.3 for heavy and light mediator scenarios respectively within 50 MeV/$c^2$ to 10 GeV/$c^2$, compared with previous best results.

Position reconstruction and surface background model for the PandaX-4T detector

We report the position reconstruction methods and surface background model for the PandaX-4T dark matter direct search experiment. This work develops two position reconstruction algorithms: template matching (TM) method and photon acceptance function (PAF) method. Both methods determine the horizontal position of events based on the light pattern of secondary scintillation collected by the light sensors. After a comprehensive evaluation of resolution, uniformity, and robustness, the PAF method was selected for position reconstruction, while the TM method was employed for verification. The PAF method achieves a bulk event resolution of 1.0 mm and a surface event resolution of 4.4 mm for a typical $S2$ signal with a bottom charge of 1500 PE (about 14 keV). The uniformity is around 20\%. Robustness studies reveal average deviations of 5.1 mm and 8.8 mm for the commissioning run (Run0) and the first science run (Run1), respectively, due to the deactivation of certain PMTs. A data-driven surface background model is developed based on the PAF method. The surface background is estimated to be $0.09 \pm 0.06$ events for Run0 (0.54 tonne$\cdot$year) and $0.17 \pm 0.11$ events for Run1 (1.00 tonne$\cdot$year).

Search for Double Beta Decay of $^{136}$Xe to the $0^+_1$ Excited State of $^{136}$Ba with PandaX-4T

We perform a search of double beta decay of $^{136}$Xe to the excited state, $0^+_1$, of $^{136}$Ba (2$\nu \beta \beta$-0$_1^+$), using the dual-phase xenon detector of PandaX-4T with the first 94.9-day commissioning data. The multi-site events are reconstructed up to the MeV energy scale, which helps to improve the background model significantly. The background contribution from the stainless steel platform outside PandaX-4T cryostat is evaluated for the first time. No significant evidence for 2$\nu \beta \beta$-$0_1^+$ is observed, resulting in a lower limit on half-life of $7.5 \times 10^{22}$ yr at the 90% confidence level. This is the first experimental limit on such a rare decay in a natural xenon-based detector.

Search for Solar Boosted Dark Matter Particles at the PandaX-4T Experiment

We present a novel constraint on light dark matter utilizing $1.54$ tonne$\cdot$year of data acquired from the PandaX-4T dual-phase xenon time projection chamber. This constraint is derived through detecting electronic recoil signals resulting from the interaction with solar-enhanced dark matter flux. Low-mass dark matter particles, lighter than a few MeV/$c^2$, can scatter with the thermal electrons in the Sun. Consequently, with higher kinetic energy, the boosted dark matter component becomes detectable via contact scattering with xenon electrons, resulting in a few keV energy deposition that exceeds the threshold of PandaX-4T. We calculate the expected recoil energy in PandaX-4T considering the Sun's acceleration and the detection capabilities of the xenon detector. The first experimental search results using the xenon detector yield the most stringent cross-section of $3.51 \times 10^{-39}~\mathrm{cm}^2$ at $0.08~\mathrm{MeV}$/$c^2$ for a solar boosted dark matter mass ranging from $0.02$ to $10~ \mathrm{MeV}$/$c^2$, achieving a 23 fold improvement compared with earlier experimental studies.

Searching for Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay of $^{136}$Xe with PandaX-4T

We report the search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe from the PandaX-4T experiment with a 3.7-tonne natural xenon target. The data reconstruction and the background modeling are optimized in the MeV energy region. A blind analysis is performed with data from the commissioning run and the first science run. No significant excess of signal over the background is observed. A lower limit on the half-life of $^{136}$Xe neutrinoless double-beta decay is established to be $2.1 \times 10^{24}$~yr at the 90\% confidence level, with a $^{136}$Xe exposure of 44.6~kg$\cdot$year. Our result represents the most stringent constraint from a natural xenon detector to date.

Measurement of two-neutrino double electron capture half-life of $^{124}$Xe with PandaX-4T

Detailed studies of two-neutrino double electron capture (2$\nu$DEC) is a crucial step towards searching for the neutrino-less mode to explore the Majorana nature of neutrinos. We have measured precisely the half-life of the 2$\nu$DEC process in $^{124}$Xe, utilizing a total exposure of 1.73 tonne$\cdot$year from the commissioning run and the first science run of the PandaX-4T experiment. A time-dependent background model in the $\mathcal{O}$(10 keV) energy is constructed for the first time in PandaX-4T data. With an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, we determine the half-life of the 2$\nu$DEC process to be $(1.03\pm0.15_{\rm stat}\pm0.08_{\rm sys})\times 10^{22}$$\,$yr. Furthermore, we have evaluated the branching ratio for both electrons captured from the $K$ shell ($KK$) to be $(65\pm5)\%$, which aligns with the $^{124}$Xe nuclear model calculations within 1.8$\,$$\sigma$.

Search for MeV-Scale Axionlike Particles and Dark Photons with PandaX-4T

Axionlike particles (ALPs) and dark photons (DPs) are viable dark matter particle candidates. We have searched for possible ALP/DP signals in the PandaX-4T liquid xenon detector using 440 kg$\cdot$yr of data. A binned likelihood fit is constructed to search for possible mono-energetic peaks induced by the absorption processes between ALPs/DPs and atomic electrons of xenon. A detailed temporal model of decays associated with xenon isotopes is introduced to constrain the number of background events. No signal excess over background expectations is observed, and we have established the most stringent exclusion limits for most ALP/DP masses across the range of 150 keV/$c^2$ to 1 MeV/$c^2$. The improvement is particularly significant within the mass range of \text{150-400}~keV/$c^2$, with the average factor of 3.5 compared to previous results.

Exploring New Physics with PandaX-4T Low Energy Electronic Recoil Data

New particles beyond the standard model of particle physics, such as axions, can be effectively searched through their interactions with electrons. We use the large liquid xenon detector PandaX-4T to search for novel electronic recoil signals induced by solar axions, neutrinos with anomalous magnetic moment, axionlike particles, dark photons, and light fermionic dark matter. A detailed background model is established using the latest datasets with 1.54 $\rm ton \cdot yr$ exposure. No significant excess above the background has been observed, and we have obtained competitive constraints for axion couplings, neutrino magnetic moment, and fermionic dark matter interactions.

Dark Matter Search Results from 1.54 Tonne$\cdot$Year Exposure of PandaX-4T

In this letter, we report the dark matter search results from the commissioning run and the first science run of the PandaX-4T experiment. A blind analysis is carried out on the entire data set. The data processing is improved compared to previous work, unifying the low-level signal reconstruction in a wide energy range up to 120 keV. With a total exposure of 1.54 tonne$\cdot$year, no significant excess of nuclear recoil events is found. The lowest 90% confidence level exclusion on the spin-independent cross section is $1.6 \times 10^{-47}\,\mathrm{cm}^2$ at a dark matter mass of 40 GeV$/c^2$. Our results represent the most stringent constraint for a dark matter mass above 100 GeV$/c^2$.
