Lifetime Difference and CP Asymmetry in the Bs -> J/psi phi decay

Abstract

The Bs meson is an interesting particle to study because a sizable mixing induced CP violation in the Bs-Bsbar system would be an indication for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper we present a measurement of the lifetime difference DeltaGamma between the Bs mass eigenstates and the CP violating phase in the decay Bs -> J/psi phi. In 1.7 fb^-1 of data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron ppbar collider we measure DeltaGamma = 0.076 +0.059-0.063 (stat.) +- 0.006 (syst.) ps^-1, well consistent with the Standard Model prediction, and a mean Bs lifetime of ctau_s = 456 +-13 (stat.) +- 7 (syst.) m^-6. We find no evidence for CP violation.

A Novel Approach to Short Baseline Oscillation Searches Using Neutrino Tagging with nuSCOPE

We present the first study of short-baseline neutrino oscillation searches using a tagged neutrino beamline, taking the proposed nuSCOPE facility at CERN as a benchmark. In this Letter we demonstrate that tagged neutrino beams, where the neutrino flavor, energy, and propagation distance are determined with exceptional event-by-event precision, provide a new experimental approach to search for non-standard neutrino oscillations. We evaluate the sensitivity to sterile-neutrino-induced oscillations in the $ν_μ$ disappearance, $ν_μ\rightarrow ν_e$ appearance, and $ν_e$ disappearance channels, demonstrating the ability to probe multiple flavor transitions and both appearance and disappearance modes within a single experiment. Our results show that tagged beams enable sensitivity improvements to mass-squared splittings spanning several orders of magnitude while substantially reducing the dependence on neutrino flux predictions that limits conventional searches. We find that nuSCOPE can probe a broad region of parameter space motivated by existing anomalies and extend coverage into previously unexplored territory, demonstrating the strong potential of tagged neutrino beams for precision oscillation physics.

Construction and Performance of the sMDT Precision Muon Tracking Chambers for ATLAS at the HL-LHC

In order to improve the muon trigger efficiency and the rate capability of the ATLAS muon detectors for operation at the high luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), the Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) tracking chambers in the inner barrel layer of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer will be replaced by small-diameter Muon Drift Tube (sMDT) chambers integrated with new thin-gap RPC trigger chambers. The sMDT chambers are in serial production since January 2021. This documentation provides insight into the drift tube production and every step performed in the chamber construction at the MPI Munich. The serial production involves a stringent quality control program to assure the reliability and high mechanical precision of the chambers. This program consists of tests of the individual drift tubes, measurements of the chamber geometry and proof of gas tightness. Final certification at the production site is provided using cosmic rays. The dedicated quality control database and monitoring Web interface that is used commonly for both production sites of the sMDT chambers is presented

First Observation of the Radiative Decay $D^0 \to γω$

We report the first observation of the radiative charm decay $D^0 \to γω$ with a significance of $6.0σ$. The analysis uses 20.3\,$\rm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773\,GeV, and employs a deep learning strategy based on the Particle Transformer architecture. The absolute branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}(D^0\toγω)=(2.12\pm 0.40_{\rm stat}\pm 0.25_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-5}$ confirms the dominance of long-distance hadronic dynamics in radiative charm decays and provides a valuable benchmark for testing non-perturbative QCD calculations of $D \to γV$ transitions.
