Influence of shear viscosity on the correlation between the triangular flow and initial spatial triangularity

In a hydrodynamic model, with fluctuating initial conditions, the correlation between triangular flow and initial spatial triangularity is studied. The triangular flow, even in ideal fluid, is only weakly correlated with the initial triangularity. The correlation is largely reduced in viscous fluid. Elliptic flow on the other hand appears to be strongly correlated with initial eccentricity. Weak correlation between triangular flow and initial triangularity indicate that a part of triangular flow is unrelated to initial triangularity. Triangularity acquired during the fluid evolution also contributes to the triangular flow.

J/Psi production in proton induced collisions at FAIR

We have examined the production of J/$ψ$ mesons in high energy proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at beam energies in the range from 158 GeV to 920 GeV, available from different fixed target experiments. In the employed model J/$ψ$ production in hadronic collisions is assumed to be a factorisable two step process: (i) production of a $c\bar{c}$ pair which can be reliably described by perturbative QCD, and (ii) formation of J/$ψ$ resonance from the $c\bar{c}$ pair, which can be conveniently parameterized incorporating different existing physical mechanisms of color neutralization. We show that, for lower collision energies, J/$ψ$ production through quark-anti-quark annihilation gives larger contribution at higher $x_F$, while gluon-gluon fusion dominates the production at smaller $x_F$. For proton-nucleus collisions the model takes into account both the initial state modification of parton distributions in nuclei and the final state interaction of the produced $c\bar{c}$ pairs with the target nucleons. The model is found to give reasonable description of data on J/$ψ$ production in protonic and proton-nucleus collisions, for different existing fixed target experiments. In case of proton-nucleus collisions, our calculations show a non-negligible dependence of the final state nuclear dissociation of J/$ψ$ mesons on the energy of the incident proton beam. The model has been applied to predict the J/$ψ$ production and suppression expected in proton-nucleus collisions at energies relevant to FAIR, the upcoming accelerator facility at Darmstadt, Germany. The amount of suppressions, for different mechanisms of J/$ψ$ hadronization has been found to be distinguishably different which might help an experimental settlement of the much controversial issue of color neutralization.

Hydrodynamical analysis of centrality dependence of charged particle's multiplicity in $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$=2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions

In Israel-Stewart's theory of dissipative hydrodynamics, we have analyzed the recent ALICE data for the centrality dependence of charged particle multiplicity, centrality dependence of integrated elliptic flow and 0-5% charged particles $p_T$ spectra in $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$=2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions and determined the initial or the thermalisation time. Analysis indicate that the ALICE data disfavor very early thermalsiation $τ_i$=0.2 fm, or very late thermalsation $τ_i$= 4fm. Data are best explained for thermalisation time $τ_i=0.88^{-0.14}_{+0.68}$ fm.

Charged particle's elliptic flow in 2+1D viscous hydrodynamics at LHC ($\sqrt{s}$= 2.76 TeV) energy in Pb+Pb collision

In the Israel-Stewart's theory of second order hydrodynamics, we have simulated $\sqrt{s}$=2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions. ALICE data for the centrality dependence of charged particles multiplicity, $p_T$ spectra in 0-5% collisions, centrality dependence of integrated and differential elliptic flow are analysed. Analysis indicate that while ALICE data on charged particles multiplicity or $p_T$ spectra do not demand any viscosity, viscosity is demanded by the elliptic flow data. From a simulataneous fit to all the data sets, viscosity to entropy ratio in $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$=2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions is extracted as, $η/s=0.06\pm 0.02$.

Modified Knudsen ansatz and elliptic flow in $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV pp collisions

Assuming that hot spots are formed in initial pp collisions, in a modified Knudsen ansatz, which accounts for the entropy generation in viscous fluid evolution, we have given predictions for elliptic flow in $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV pp collisions. Predicted flow depends on the number of hot spots and hot spot sizes. If two to four hot spots of size $\approx$0.1 fm are formed in initial pp collisions, in events with multiplicity $n_ {mult}\approx$10-15, modified Knudsen ansatz predicted flow is accessible experimentally in 4th order cumulant method.

The phase diagram of QCD in a BAG+HRG based equation of state: appearance of a pseudo-critical point

Mapping the QCD phase boundary and locating critical end point still remains as an open problem in strong interaction physics. Predictions about the co-ordinates of the critical point in the $(T, μ_B)$ plane, from different QCD motivated models show a wide variation. Lattice QCD calculations are also available, that give an estimation of the critical point for chiral phase transition, where the transition changes its nature from rapid cross over to first order transition. Recently co-ordinates of the critical point for deconfinement phase transition are claimed to be found as an endpoint of the first order phase transition line, in Bag model scenario. In the present paper we have shown that Bag model gives a complete first order phase transition line in the $(T, μ_B)$ plane, and one can not have any point where the transition changes its nature.

Causal dissipative hydrodynamics for heavy ion collisions

We briefly discuss the recent developments in causal dissipative hydrodynamic for relativistic heavy ion collisions. Phenomenological estimate of QGP viscosity over entropy ratio from several experimental data, e.g. STAR's $ϕ$ meson data, centrality dependence of elliptic flow, universal scaling elliptic flow etc. are discussed. QGP viscosity, extracted from hydrodynamical model analysis can have very large systematic uncertainty due to uncertain initial conditions.

Direct photon production from viscous QGP

We simulate direct photon production in evolution of viscous QGP medium. Photons from Compton and annihilation processes are considered. Viscous effect on photon production is very strong and reliable simulation is possible only in a limited $p_T$ range. For minimally viscous fluid $η/s$=0.08), direct photons can be reliably computed only up to $p_T \leq$ 1.3 GeV. With reduced viscosity ($η/s$=0.04), the limit increases to $p_T \leq $2GeV.

Charged particle's $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200 GeV Au+Au collisions: QGP vs. hadronic resonance gas

We show that if the hadronic resonance gas (HRG), with viscosity to entropy ratio $η/s\approx$0.24, is physical at temperature $T\approx$220 MeV, charged particles $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, over a wide range of collision centrality do not distinguish between initial QGP fluid and initial hadronic resonance gas. Unambiguous identification of bulk of the matter produced in Au+Au collisions require clear demonstration that HRG is unphysical at temperature $T<$200 MeV. It calls for precise lattice simulations with realistic boundary conditions.

Knudsen number, ideal hydrodynamic limit for elliptic flow and QGP viscosity in $\sqrt{s}$=62 and 200 GeV Cu+Cu/Au+Au collisions

Taking into account of entropy generation during evolution of a viscous fluid, we have estimated inverse Knudsen number, ideal hydrodynamic limit for elliptic flow and QGP viscosity to entropy ratio in $\sqrt{s}$=62 and 200 GeV Cu+Cu/Au+Au collisions. Viscosity to entropy ratio is estimated as $η/s=0.17\pm 0.10\pm 0.20$, the first error is statistical, the second one is systematic. In a central Au+Au collision, inverse Knudsen number is $\approx 2.80\pm 1.63$, which presumably small for complete equilibration. In peripheral collisions it is even less. Ideal hydrodynamic limit for elliptic flow is $\sim$40% more than the experimental flow in a central collision.

Elliptic flow ($v_2$) in pp collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider: A hydrodynamical approach

At Large Hadron Collider energy, the expected large multiplicities suggests the presence of collective behavior even in pp collisions. A hydrodynamical approach has been applied to estimate the expected elliptic flow measured by the azimuthal asymmetry parameter $v_2$, in pp collisions at $\surd$s = 14 TeV. $v_2$ of $π^-$ is found to be strongly dependent on the parton density profile inside a proton [e.g., surface diffuseness parameter ($ξ$)]. For $ξ$ = 0.105, $v_2$ is found to be positive while at $ξ$ = 0.25, $v_2$ is close to zero and approaches negative values at large $p_t$. The impact parameter dependence of $v_2$ has also been studied.

Hadronic resonance gas and charged particle's $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow in $\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV Au+Au collisions

Charged particles $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow in 0-60% Au+Au collisions at RHIC are analyzed in a hydrodynamic model with hot, hadronic resonance gas in the initial state. Physically conceivable hadronic resonance gas, thermalized in the time scale $τ_i$=1 fm, at a (central) temperature $T_i$=220 MeV, with viscosity to entropy ratio $η/s$=0.24, reasonably well explains $p_T$ spectra in all the collision centralities. Centrality dependence of elliptic flow however demands continual increase of viscosity to entropy ratio with centrality.

Large elliptic flow in low multiplicity pp collisions at LHC energy $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV

We explore the possibility of observing elliptic flow in low multiplicity events in central pp collisions at LHC energy, $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV. It is assumed that the initial interactions produces a number of hot spots. Hydrodynamical evolution of two or more hot spots can generate sufficiently large elliptic flow to be accessible experimentally in 4-th order cumulant analysis.

Energy scan by $ϕ$ mesons and threshold energy for the confinement-deconfinement phase transition

We argue that the ratio of $ϕ$ mesons multiplicity over cube of the mean $p_T$ is proportional to the degeneracy of the medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. The ratio extracted from the existing $ϕ$ meson data in the energy range $\sqrt{s}$=6.3-200 GeV, indicate that beyond a threshold energy $\sqrt{s}_{th}=15.74\pm 8.10$ GeV, the medium crosses over from a confined phase to a deconfined phase.

Centrality dependence of elliptic flow and QGP viscosity

In the Israel-Stewart's theory of second order hydrodynamics, we have analysed the recent PHENIX data on charged particles elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions. PHENIX data demand more viscous fluid in peripheral collisions than in central collisions. Over a broad range of collision centrality (0-10%- 50-60%), viscosity to entropy ratio ($η/s$) varies between 0-0.17.

Transverse momentum spectra and elliptic flow in ideal hydrodynamics and geometric scaling

In an ideal hydrodynamic model, with an equation of state where the confinement-deconfinement transition is a cross-over at $T_{co}=196 MeV$, we have simulated $\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV Au+Au collisions. Simultaneous description of the experimental charged particle's $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow require that in central (0-10%) Au+Au collisions, initial energy density scales with the binary collision number density. In less central collisions, experimental data demand scaling with the participant density. Simulation studies also indicate that in central collisions viscous effects are minimal.

Initial eccentricity and constituent quark number scaling of elliptic flow in ideal and viscous dynamics

In the Israel-Stewart's theory of dissipative hydrodynamics, we study the scaling properties elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions. Initial energy density of the fluid was fixed to reproduce STAR data on $ϕ$ meson multiplicity in 0-5% Au+Au collisions, such that irrespective of fluid viscosity, entropy at the freeze-out is similar in ideal or in viscous evolution. Initial eccentricity or constituent quark number scaling is only approximate in ideal or minimally viscous ($η/s=1/4π$) fluid. Eccentricity scaling become nearly exact in more viscous fluid ($η/s \geq$0.12). However, in more viscous fluid, constituent quark number scaled elliptic flow for mesons and baryons split into separate scaling functions. Simulated flows also do not exhibit 'universal scaling' i.e. elliptic flow scaled by the constituent quark number and charged particles $v_2$ is not a single function of transverse kinetic energy scaled by the quark number. From a study of violation of universal scaling, we obtain an estimate of QGP viscosity, $η/s=0.12 \pm 0.03$.

Lattice based equation of state and transverse momentum spectra of identified particles in ideal and viscous hydrodynamics

Assuming that in Au+Au collisions, a baryon free fluid is produced, transverse momentum spectra of identified particles ($π$, $K$, $p$ and $ϕ$), in evolution of ideal and viscous fluid is studied. Hydrodynamic evolution is governed by a lattice based equation of state (EOS), where the confinement-deconfinement transition is a cross-over at $T_{co}$=196 MeV. Ideal or viscous fluid was initialised to reproduce $ϕ$ meson multiplicity in 0-5% Au+Au collisions. Ideal or minimally viscous ($η/s$=0.08) fluid evolution reasonably well explain the transverse momentum spectra of pion's, kaon's, and $ϕ$ meson's in central and mid-central Au+Au collisions. Description to the data is much poorer in viscous fluid evolution with $η/s \geq$0.12. The model however under estimate proton production by a factor $\sim$ 2.
